Brie returned to the Intimidator's bridge, Ange at her side. The irony of his being there didn't escape her. She approached Lt. Nadia. "I need direct communication with the captains or current pilots of every ship in the fleet," she instructed.
"I'll have it established in a micron," Nadia replied.
"Major," Ange said to her, almost in a whisper. "I have a question. It's obvious that you don't like me. Why?"
Brie walked away, picked up the infant carriers, and placed them on the floor. She wanted to be near her babies. She sat down and forced herself to look at Ange. "You make a lousy first impression," was all that she said.
"But we just met back when..."
"Major," Nadia interrupted, "communication has been established."
"Thanks." Brie took a deep breath. "Leaders of the fleet, prepare your ships to leave the system. There's a Cylon baseship on its way, and Commander Apollo has left us defenseless. I've sent what few officers we have throughout the fleet to help with preparations, and am transmitting the jump point to everyone now."
"Major Brie," a voice said after a micron, "This is Captain Novy from the Textile Ship. I've just received the coordinates. These aren't like anything that we've seen before. When the battlestars come back, they won't know where to find us."
"IF the battlestars come back," Brie corrected. "If their mission is successful none of this right now will be happening, but we need to assume that they've been destroyed. The fleet has been left defenseless and with me in charge, and I'm going to do whatever I can to save the rest of the human race. We also need to lead the Cylons away from here, can you imagine the ramifications if they were to discover the rift? Now...are there any other questions?" Brie was met by silence. "Good. Prepare your ships immediately, we move forward in one centar.

It's really been a long time, Amy thought as she left the Gold Squadron barracks and made her way to Brie's quarters. All of her stuff had been stowed with her mom, and Amy thought it funny that she'd slipped back into the past, going to the barracks first as if no time had gone by at all.
It wasn't the old days anymore, but actually it was. The colonies were out there in all their pre-ambush splendor. But Amy was thinking of her own past, of racing to launch vipers with Charybdis along side of her, the feeling of being flush with youth and in love, the future bright before her.
A future that now would come to a sudden end... when? What act would be the one to cause her to fade from existance? When the first basestar falls? When a raider that was never destroyed suddenly is? Or would it come in the bigger moments, like when the tide is successfully turned back and the colonies are going to survive?
Amy dressed quickly, the brown warrior coat feeling good as she slipped her arms into it and drew it up around her shoulders. With a quick glance in the mirror she was out the door and on her way to the bridge again...
She arrived to find Charybdis on the highest level of the bridge, staring intently at the monitors. Amy quickly rounded the corner and climbed the stairs, wondering what the latest news was, and surprised that she was still around to find this out.
Captstadia climbed out of the viper as soon as the canopy opened. Handing her helmet to a tech, she asked, "Where is the bridge?" After receiving direction, she made her way toward the flight deck. Ignoring the stares, she made her way to the bridge.
Ariving on the bridge, she asked a technician who was in command.
The tech pointed to a young man who was pouring over reports..."Lt. Troy, sir" "Thanks."
"Lt. Troy, I am Captain Stadia. I have been sent to command this vessel until such a time the fleet is out of danger. I want status reports on the condition of this ship. I want to know the ships complement." The Lt. looked dejected at the news. His shoulders slumped down. Captstadia noticing this went on, "Lt. Troy, you will remain as my second and no other crew changes are expected."
"Then Captain you will be interested in this report. We have been having trouble with the engine. For some reason the engines cant go beyond half thrust. If we try they shut down."
Captain Stadia took the report and began to study it indepth.

"Already on it, Brik!" Logan replied, lining up the Raider in her sights and hitting the fire button as soon as the target was locked.
She knew it was crazy to fly straight at a baseship as Brik intended, but she also knew that this was no ordinary mission and more importantly, it was what she would do if he hadn't thought of it first. She felt a flush of jealousy and used it to fuel her concentration.
"Lt. Cian, Caprica Planetary Defense, reporting for duty, " she heard over the comm. A group of ships from the planet had appeared out of nowhere and were falling in line with Logan's group. There were only a handful of them and their ships looked like they were ready for the scrap heap, but she didn't complain. They needed all the help they could get.
"Welcome to the party, Lt. Follow my lead. Plwel, match me. Let's give Brik some room to breathe." She counted to five to give Brik the time he needed to get close to position and took a hard turn, rolling her Viper right and heading straight into the largest group of Raiders. She knew to anyone watching, it looked like she had lost her mind, but she didn't have time for standard maneuvers. "For the Colonies!"

"Brik! Warbook!"
"Affirmative! Baseship, cresting the planet. But that means...."
She didn't wait for him to finish. "Callisto, we have TWO baseships. I repeat, two baseships. Raiders have been launched and we are engaging now."
FRACK!
His brief reverie brutally ended, Brik turned all of his attention once more to the current situation. Bringing his viper around to bear on the distant basestar, he contacted the four pilots of his wing and directed them to follow his lead. Then he spoke to his best friend. "Logan! I plan to flank that basestar and do our best to cripple her landing bays. If we manage to get some of her turrets, all the better. If your groups could provide a slight diversion for those raiders...?"
Although coordinating a new attack on the fly, the large captain was by no means simply talking. He had sent three raiders and their crews to the fiery cold of robot hell, if there was such a place. He truly hoped that there was. As the third enemy ship flared out of existence, Brik and his cohorts returned to the trajectory of the oppressive second basestar, turbos blasting flame from the viper's engines. His rarely known imagination pictured the barrels of his ship's weapons gleaming in the light of Caprica, and found the idea of it to be quite fitting.

Logan couldn't believe what she was seeing, had no frame of reference for it. Caprica, whole and healthy. Even with the Cylon Raiders on her tail, creating that insectlike mass of fighter ships zooming around each other in a ballet of sparks and destruction. It was a dance choreographed by madmen and her own movements were so practiced she didn't have to think of them, just react.
Edan had things under control on his end and she let him run with it, without interference. Blasting through the miniscule points of light that were the wreckage of the Raider she had just hit, she pulled back on the throttle and dared a glance out the canopy. Nero was tight on her wing, all traces of surliness gone as he flew his older model Viper with precision. He was good and knew it. "Nero, hard veer right!" He immediately darted his ship at Logan's order and they formed up with Plwel and his Green Wing. She'd given up calling out Gold designations about ten microns into the battle. With the new Green Squadron members and several members of other squadrons included in this group of Vipers, it seemed pointless. She knew Skyler wouldn't like her breach of procedure, but she thought they were all too busy to worry about that right now. And it made her feel like she was giving these Warriors their due, calling them by name instead of a number. In this battle, she felt it was the least she could do.
Comm chatter buzzed in her ears, the planetary defenses were mobilizing. Thank the Lords. The baseship was just out of range but she knew from Edan's reports what was happening.
Her scanner blinked and she looked down quickly, back up again as she shook a Raider off, Plwel coming in behind her and blowing it out of space. She had a moment's confusion as she couldn't make sense of what she saw. Couldn't rectify the...wrongness of it. "Brik! Warbook!"

AMAZING.
Of all the reactions that he'd expected to have; Of all the emotions that were the most anticipated; Of all the words that one would imagine being exclaimed;
NONE of them turned out to be the reality.
All of his memories, such as they were, were of a young man (still a child in any real way) trapped in the midst of catastrophic and life-altering (civilization-altering!) events that defied explanation. This means that the focus of his recollections had always gravitated to things largely intangible. The smell of his Mother's perfume. His father's business cloak and the one hem that seemed to always be loose, no matter how much attention it received. The feel of the family home on holidays. The sudden loss of all of that and so much more.
Brik remembered a great number of things from the Colonies.
Not one included a view of ANY of the Colonies from space as its moon came around the far side of the world, and the primary hanging solemn and impassive in the sky, providing more light than he was used to during his lifetime and career in deep space.
To see such a sight as a grown man and Colonial Warrior who has just recently traveled through TIME, looking upon intact cities that he had ONLY seen as sad and burning rubble, and fighting against Cylon ships removed from service long before his first training cycle . . .
Regardless of the outcome of today's battle, he counted himself a very lucky man, for everything that he's seen in the last several cycles was nothing short of AMAZING!

Brie had just given the last assignment when there was a knock on the door. Nadia came in, a report in hand. Brie stared at it in disbelief. She shook her head. "Cylons. And the fleet is unprotected."
"Our patrol stayed hidden, but it looks like the baseship will be here in less than a cycle."
Ange, the only person that Brie hadn't given an assignment to, stood closeby. "What are we going to do?"
"Hopefully everyone will make it to their assignments soon," Brie said. "And then..."

The sounds of battle were glorious! Vipers and Raiders engaged in a struggle for life and death, well, at least the death of robots, if you could call it that, but what was more important was to save as many human lives as possible.
Ens. Edan's report came in to the bridge that he was taking on an entire baseship. "Ens Edan, go for the landing bays, if you can cripple them there, they can't land or take off any of thier raiders!"
From the sounds of it, planetary defense vipers had showed up to help at the last micron. I only hoped that Lords of Kobol were with them as they returned to their deadly task...
