A dark cloud. Fuzzy images. Not too clear now. But finally, something...
Turner and I were in our quarters late one night talking. The subject came up again about that hot redhead we had seen around. One thing led to another and someone blurted it out, I 'm not sure if it was me or Turner, "Come on, flip you for her!" A cubit was held up.
The winner would get the priveledge of asking Brie out and the other would have to wait his turn... if it ever came.
I had the "G" symbol on the cubit and Turner had the "L" symbol since those letters sort of looked like the first letters of our names. The cubit flipped up and came crashing to the floor. As it settled, we could easily see the "L" symbol was facing up -- Turner had won! I had wished with all my power that I had won, but it was not to be. Fate had other plans for us all.
Of course, we all know how it turned out. I never got my turn with her as he and Brie hit it off and eventually took the seal while I floundered about with many female cadets who came and went but never had anything serious until...Astraea.
I saw her getting onboard the shuttle as she flew to that ill-fated mission to check out the derelict ship orbiting a planet. A mission she never came back from...until lately! She was alive! Astraea was there on the Calllisto.
I woke up again. This was too much. I had attempted to contact Astraea right before Commander Apollo came on with his message about the coup attempt and the trumped up trial of Brie. Astraea was unavailable at the time but something inside of me wanted to talk to her. I was drawn to her.
I walked over to the comm unit and typed in a message. "Astraea, I'm sorry for all that has gone on lately. I tried to come see you but you weren't in. Please contact me at this terminal. I'm on the Medical Frigate on leave from duty. I want to talk with you soon. Charybdis."
I sent the message and hoped she would get back in touch with me soon...

It was already getting to be what we would call "morning" in the cycle, so I decided enough of my strange dreams. Before I went to the turbowash, I sent one more message, this time to Doc BKJ. Unfortunately, these older ships that were not in the military did not have video comm units in the private quarters, so I had to send the message and wait for a response.
"BKJ, this is Col. Charybdis. I just wanted to check in on the status of Major Brie and Cpt. Amy. If you could please give me an update on their condition, I would appreciate it."
I sent the message and then had to wait until Doc sent one back.

Once again in her office, Doc Bkj noticed that she had a message.
"BKJ, this is Col. Charybdis. I just wanted to check in on the status of Major Brie and Cpt. Amy. If you could please give me an update on their condition, I would appreciate it."
Bkj sighed before typing her response.
“Colonial, as I’m sure you can understand, security has been tightened tremendously around here. I am under direct orders from Commander Sheba to not give out any information on either Major Brie or Captain Amy to anyone except high-ranking officers or family. While I realize that you still qualify as the former, there are no secure communications channels between here and the Medical Frigate. Any information that I send to you would be all over IFB within a centar. I’m sure that you can understand. Until we know that all of Pierce’s followers have been caught Brie is at constant risk, and the story that she made-up about Amy being her biological daughter unfortunately has made Amy a target as well. If and when you return to the Callisto I would be happy to give you a full update.
Doc Bkj”

Perfect. I knew that BKJ would not give out sensitive information on her patients, but the fact that she used Brie and Amy's names in the present tense meant that at least they were alive and nothing drastic had happened beyond what was covered on the nightly IFB Report. That was good news.
I got dressed and went to eat some breakfast...

"He's where?" Commander Apollo asked.
"He's on the Medical Frigate visiting with his family. Apparently, Commander Sheba allowed him to go."
"Second in commands on leave? Right now? Sheba must have been smoking plant vapors," Apollo said almost more to himself than the young duty officer by his side.
The officer handed him a data pad. "She said to read this, sir."
"Alright, thank you. I'll be in the war room if anyone needs me." With that, Commander Apollo left the bridge of the mightly Galactica which still led the fleet after these many yahrens. He began to read a short report filed by Commander Sheba as to why Col. Charybdis was not on duty anymore.
When finished, Apollo put down the pad and exhaled. "We can't have high-ranking officers taking vacation whenever they want." He punched a button on his console, "Jenny, get me the Medical Frigate, now."

THe comm unit buzzed in the office section of my parent's quarters. We had eaten breakfast as a family, which was nice. The first time in 27 yahrens. My father came back in and told me that the captain of the Frigate requested to see me. My father then left to go to his lab for work.
"I wonder what the Captain wants? I'd better go." I said to my mother and Arien. I got dressed in civilian clothing and left for the bridge to see what was up...

As I walked onto the much smaller bridge area than what I was accustomed to on the Callisto, I suddenly felt a bit of a longing. Was I doomed to spend the rest of my life onboard this frigate? What was to become of me?
Capt. Pyge (pronounced: Pie-sh) noticed me and walked over. "Colonel, this message came from the Galactica. It sounded urgent, so I notified you immediately."
"Thank you, Captain," I responded. He handed me a datapad and I quickly turned it on and began reading the note. It stated: "Colonel Charybdis, Commander Apollo wishes to meet with you immediately. Please make arrangements to travel to the Galactica at once."
I wondered what this was about. Commander Apollo doesn't summon someone half-heartedly, especially when they are two-thirds of the fleet behind the Galactica. I didn't know how long I would be gone for this trip but it would at least be overnight.
I headed back toward our quarters to begin my packing. Since I was headed to the Galactica, I decided to dress appropriately and donned my blue command uniform. After telling my parents and my sister that I had to go, I checked in with the flight deck to request passage to the Galactica. As luck would have it, the next shuttle was leaving in about a centar, so I booked a seat. It had been quite awhile since my last time aboard the old ship. In fact, I think the last time I was there was when I transferred over to take command of Gold squadron onboard the Callisto around seven yahrens ago!

I told my parents of the news and then headed for the launch/landing bay when the time came. I boarded the shuttle and we launched for the roughly 3 centar trip to the front of the fleet to rendezvouz with the old gal, the Galactica!

The trip was uneventful and very slow...
For a trained fighter pilot, travelling in a shuttle has got to be the same as catharsis treatment!
There she was, the Galactica. We vectored in on approach and made our way into the landing bay. She looked so familiar. So many times I had made that same approach as a young Ensign and then Lieutenant in the military during our patrols in the vipers. How things had changed over the past several yahrens.
We came to a stop, checked in with flight control and then entered the landing bay with its hustle and bustle of activity. I quickly gathered my bag and headed for the bridge...

A young officer greeted me and led me to a small room near the bridge. It was visitor's quarters. Once I finished leaving my things there, the young officer escorted me onto the bridge to see Commander Apollo.
I entered the war room and there was Apollo sitting looking at some readouts. So many times had I seen him. So many times he had ordered us to launch when Cylons came attacking, that is, until my transfer to the Callisto to serve under Sheba.
He looked up and saw me at the door. "Colonel, come in," he said.
I stepped in and the door closed behind me.
