Amy went on anyway. "I'm not exactly sure what kind of terms we said goodbye on though."
"Amy" Brie said, "You two did the wild thing in a broom closet and you aren't sure?"
Amy shrugged. "Different mindset though. I mean, I thought I was going to die. Really knew it deep inside..."
"Are you sure that wasn't just Charybdis?"
Amy burst out laughing. It took them both a few moments to recover. "Seriously though" Amy said at last. "What we did came out of the moment. We took what little time we had left to make up for all the pain we'd caused each other."
Brie nodded. "Well, that solution won't work for him and me, that's for sure."
Amy whacked Brie on the shoulder. "Still though, his offer to take the seal is still there waiting for me, as far as I know anyway. I told him I'd give him an answer when I got back."
"Nice way to get out of it" Brie said with a small smile. "So what happens now?"
"Nothing. Not with my mom ready to pull the plug. But I know what you are saying. You and Turner were different. You guys were sealed. It must have been wonderful. Me, if I took the time to say I love you to my lineup of boyfriends before each mission, I'd miss my flight!"
"The way you say goodbye, that's for sure!" Brie laughed.
Amy laughed.
"Just say you love them, don't actually love them!" Brie advised in a serious tone.
Amy laughed harder. "Now you tell me!" she managed to say in between breaths.
"What can I say? I can't keep watch on all the broom closets..."
"Stop Brie!"
"That's what I would have told you!"

Brie continued to laugh for several more microns. “See, Amy,” she said at last, “this is why you have to make it back. I can’t imagine having this conversation with anyone else.”
“It’s up to my mom,” Amy reminded her. “Plus, as I’ve already said, I don’t think I’d want to live without my memories.”
“Miracles happen,” Brie said. She grinned again. “I remember those days. Trying to find some privacy just about anywhere.”
“Including broom closets?” Amy joked.
Brie blushed. “Maybe. It was annoying, it seemed like any time Turner and I thought we found a micron to ourselves, suddenly Charybdis would show up. I swear, sometimes it felt like he was following us.”
“It couldn’t have been that bad,” Amy said.
“It was,” Brie replied. “He was there every time I turned around. As I said before, I thought at first it was because he didn’t like me. Thought I wasn’t good enough for his friend.”
“But things changed,” Amy reminded her. “I’ve heard you refer to Charybdis as quote, ‘the closest thing that I have to a brother.’ Unquote.”
“Yeah, I guess,” Brie agreed, “they were okay for awhile. But then, everything changed.”
“Any idea why?” Amy wanted to know.
“Yeah,” Brie replied. “Astraea. I didn’t see it then, but I see it very clearly now.”

On the Callisto, Major Lucian took a brisk trip from the Bridge to the Med Lab. When he arrived, Lorna the Med Clerk reported that Doc BKJ was with the patient, who was still unidentified, in an isolation exam room. She'd ordered all the others who'd contacted the Warrior into temporary quarantine, just in case there was a danger of disease transmission. Lucian breathed a sigh of relief about that, though he knew he'd be hearing from the unlucky folks in isolation when he returned to the Bridge, if they hadn't already squealed to Commander Sheba. As he turned to go, he asked, "What are the statuses of Major Brie and Captain Amy?" He had been denied entry to see Major Brie the last time he'd stopped by.
"Major Brie's still in isolation, and there's no change on Captain Amy," replied Lorna, moving off to greet an incoming patient holding a bleeding hand. "Nurse holodoc! Need some help!" she called.
Checking the board, Lucian spotted Captain Amy's name. Seeing no one to stop him, he entered the room where her body lay hooked to a machine. She seemed so young, so peaceful, so...dead. Blasted Cylons! Why did they want so badly to destroy humanity? Why did they have to try to kill people like this young officer? Pulling up a chair, he sat down next to her and reached out to take her hand.
"Amy, if you're in there somewhere, we need you here," said Lucian, speaking softly. "You've got friends and fellow Warriors here on the Callisto who want you to come back to us. Doc told us a few cycles ago that your memory was wiped, but I'm hoping that what was on those discs was just a copy of your memories. I'm hoping that you somehow, I don't know, turned off your brain, you real memories so they couldn't steal them to use against us. I think they're still in there somewhere, if you'd just turn them back on." He said nothing for a couple of centons as he waited in silent meditation, hoping she'd respond to his voice or the gentle squeeze of his hand. Seeing nothing, and knowing that the Commander would be looking for him soon, he said in an authoritative voice, "Come on, Amy, it's time to wake up now." Standing up to return to the Bridge, he gave her hand a firmer squeeze, and added, "And that, Captain, is an order."

"Astraea huh?" Amy replied. "I remember that name. I knew Charybdis used to go with her, but it never really came up during our time together."
"You know that she went missing, right?"
Amy nodded. "Yeah. I looked some stuff up. But I knew it had to be painful for Charybdis, and that if he wanted to talk about it at all he'd bring it up himself." Amy paused for a moment. "She's the looney we found on the baseship. Lazant found her and they both sprung me from the coldcell."
"I heard something about that."
"Yeah" Amy replied. "I was barely conscious when they first got me out. Then things got worse. I think it was the felgercarb she was trying to feed me. Or maybe it was just from what the Cylons did to me. Funny how it's so clear here, where we are above it all. But down there, I'm blank as can be."
"You'll get better" Brie assured her.
"I have a visitor" Amy said, sitting up straighter.
"Who is it? It's not Ange..."
"No, no" Amy replied, staring off into the distance. "Major Lucian. Wow. I never knew he had such a tender side." Amy smiled. "He's ordering me to get up."
"That's one order you should obey."
Amy laughed. "You saying I don't follow orders?" Brie just smiled. "Okay, okay" Amy admitted. "But I do follow most of them. Wow, Lucian... that's so nice." She sat in silence a moment longer. "But, back to the subject. I suppose Astraea being back might change things for Charybdis and me, but how did she change things for you back then?"

Getting no response, Lucian patted her hand once more and said, "I'll drop by again tomorrow, Captain. I'll talk to you then, and I hope you'll be ready to talk to me. We've never done that bulkhead mod on the Beta side of the ship. Now that we're back with the Fleet and have the materials, I need you to be in charge of it." Still seeing no response, he felt sad for her and her family as he left the room, but he retained some degree of hope. He was on his way out of the Med Lab when Lorna saw him. She had hustled the injured Tech off to treatment and was already back on duty at her station. Lucian checked his chrono, and was surprised to see that he'd spent more time with Amy than he'd intended. Lorna shook her head in response to his nod toward the area where the mystery warrior was being treated, but she added, "Major, Lieutenant Finky just called for you. I told her I thought you'd already left. She said you were needed back on the Bridge ASAP."
"On my way, Lorna. Please let her know," replied Lucian as he quickened his pace.

Meanwhile, on another console on the bridge, Lt. Aegina was busy studying a comm screen. Medium range scan showed something disturbing...very disturbing. She saw two small blips encounter one large blip and then four more blips!
"These things are multiplying!" she muttered. "Commander, I think you need to see this."
Sheba walked over and took a look. "Are there any fleet ships in that quadrant?" she asked.
"No ma'am. Not any that we are aware of. However, tracking information on the first two ships reveals that they are the vipers of Col. Charybdis' flight back from the Galactica."
"Are they where they're supposed to be?" Sheba asked.
"No ma'am. Apparently they took a severe course change to that coordinate," Aegina replied.
"Keep me informed," was all Sheba said and then walked back to her war room...
