Before she even opened her eyes Brie could feel that there was something in her hand. She moved it closer and opened her eyes. She was holding a Black Squadron patch. Justin was here she thought to herself. She put down the patch and looked around, trying to place everything. She was still in the medlab, probably in recovery right after the surgery. The surgery...the last thing she remembered was Doctor Ellis revealing that he was one of Pierce's followers. Or had she dreamed that? One thing was certain, she was going to find out. She also had an incredibly strong desire to speak with Amy and also with Charybdis. Why, she wasn't sure, but she knew that she had to.
Slowly, she sat up. It was difficult, partially because her muscles were stiff but more because she seemed to be hooked up to every machine imaginable. She ripped off several gadgets that were stuck to her, causing one of the monitors to wail continuously. Ignoring it, she grabbed hold of the pole that held her IV, threw her legs over the side of the bed, and tried to stand. She fell helplessly to the floor.
The door to the room sprang open and Doc Bkj, a couple of med techs, Enoch and Jared all entered. "Brie!" Doc exclaimed, "you're awake! When we heard the monitor..." She looked at the blackshirts. "Help me get her back on the bed."
“No,” Brie protested. “I need to see Amy.”
“All in good time,” Doc replied.
"But..." Brie exclaimed, but didn't fight as she was lifted off the floor.
"You gave us quite a scare," Bkj commented. "I wasn't sure if you would ever wake up."
"What are you talking about?" Brie asked. "It sometimes takes a while for the anesthesia to wear off."
"Brie," Doc said calmly, "you've been in a coma. Doctor Ellis tried to kill you, he was one of Pierce's followers."
"So it wasn't a dream," Brie mumbled.
"Ellis is dead," Enoch informed her.
"Looks like you woke up right in time for the Gold Squadron election," Jared added.
"Gold Squadron election," Brie repeated. She shook her head, amazed. "How long have I been out?"
"Sectars," was Bkj‘s reply.

"In some ways the coma was actually good for you," Doc Bkj continued. "Your body took advantage of the rest, used the time to heal. You're going to need physical therapy to get your muscle strength back, but you're almost fully recovered from the injuries that you sustained on the Agro Ship. And Ellis might have been a psychopathic fool but I'll give him this much, he was an excellent doctor. He patched you up better than almost any doctor in the fleet could have. There's no doubt in my mind that he saved your life."
"Only so he could enjoy killing me even more," Brie remarked.
"Probably." Doctor Bkj pulled the curtain around Brie's bed and started to examine her. "Fortunately he underestimated me. The heart attack that you had? That was caused by a drug that he was administering. He switched blood samples to cover up the drug, not realizing that the woman's whose sample he used was pregnant, because it wasn't on her chart. But that's a totally different story.”
“Is that why you asked me if I had been...” Brie started.
“Yup. That tipped me off that something weird was going on. I kept studying your chart, there was something different about it, but I couldn’t place it. Then when I was doing inventory I was checking the verticillian and if all fell into place.”
“Verticillian?” Brie repeated. “I’m deathly allergic to that stuff.”
“Ellis had removed your allergy from your chart so your 'death' would look like an accident,” Bkj explained. “Your blackshirt friends and I showed up in the middle of your surgery. He injected you with the verticillian, your bodyguards shot him dead, and I administered the antidote. Unfortunately I gave you too much, which was why you slipped into a coma. I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault," Brie replied.
Doc Bkj brightened. "But, you're back now, your heart sounds excellent, and it looks like you're going to make a full recovery."
"When can I go back on duty?" Brie asked.
Bkj laughed. "Let's see how things go. Maybe I'll be able to release you for light duty in a few cycles."
"Doc," Brie pleaded, "there are Cylons in the area."
"There are? How would you know that? I haven't heard anything."
"I don't understand how I know," Brie said, staring at a point beyond her friend. "I just know that there are."
"Even if the entire Cylon Empire was upon us, I wouldn't release you right now," Doc told her. "You need to concentrate on yourself. You can't single-handedly save the fleet every time, Brie."
Brie smiled. "I can try."
Doc opened the curtain. "I'll have someone bring you something to eat. Vegetarian, don't worry. And I'll arrange for you to see Amy sometime in the near future. I know how important she is to you." She left with the med techs behind her, leaving Brie alone with Enoch and Jared.

"Wow," Jared said to Brie, "I never thought I'd actually see you again. Awake, that is."
"I can't believe that I was out for so long," Brie replied. "What's been going on?"
"Absolutely nothing," Enoch informed her. "It's been as dead as a doornail, as quiet as a mouse, so quiet you could hear a pin drop..."
"What's going on with Amy?" Brie interrupted.
"Nothing official," Jared said. "I've seen her mom around, and a doctor went rushing in there earlier, but her mom wasn't crying so I don't think she's dead."
"Tactful," Enoch whispered to his partner.
"Her uncle stopped by to see her earlier," Jared continued.
Brie quickly ran through Amy's file in her mind. "Her uncle? Who?"
"You know," Jared said, "the one who helped so much on the Agro Ship. Her Uncle Ange."
Brie's mouth opened. "Ange is NOT Amy's uncle. He's not to visit her again, even if Abby gives permission. As Amy's commanding officer that is a direct order."
"She may not be her commanding officer much longer, depending on the election," Enoch mumbled.
"Come on, Major," Jared implored. "The guy is a genuine hero. I know you had a part in stopping Pierce but Ange?" Jared paused for effect. "I hear he's up for a medal."
"Ange is not to visit Amy without my permission," Brie said sternly. "Understood?"
"Yes, Ma'am," Jared said sheepishly.
"It's good to have you back, Ma'am," Enoch added. "Jared, it's time to return to our post." They almost ran out the door.

This is Zerra, reporting live for Inter-Fleet Broadcasting. I have just received an unconfirmed report that Major Brie from the Battlestar Callisto has regained consciousness. You may recall that Major Brie was tried and convicted of negligence, which was actually a part of Commander Apollo’s plan to catch Major Pierce, who attempted to take over the fleet. Major Brie played a small part in foiling Pierce’s attempt, but the real hero of that story is Chief Security Officer Ange from the Agro Ship. At this micron we are trying to arrange an interview with Ange, who humbly remains unavailable.
In a related story Major Brie has retained her leadership of Gold Squadron in the latest election. Ironically Brie was running against Captain Amy, who is also in a coma. It makes this reporter wonder about the wisdom of the Gold Squadron members, nominating people who can't command while overlooking the man who has been running the squadron for the past yahren.
We will keep you informed as to the condition of Major Brie as soon as more information becomes available. We now return to “General Sickbay.” A quick reminder, Doctor Noah is soon returning to the cast for a few episodes, and I know that I’m not the only woman in the fleet who can’t wait! Maybe THAT’S why Major Brie decided to finally wake up! This is Zerra, reporting live for the IFB.

Brie sat up in her room, eating the first real food that she had been given in a long time, watching IFB. She was sick of hearing stories about herself, but at least Zerra seemed to have dropped the idea about Amy being her biological daughter.
Major Brie played a small part in foiling Pierce’s attempt, but the real hero of that story is Chief Security Officer Ange from the Agro Ship.
Brie picked up her cup and threw it with all her might towards the monitor. It didn’t go very far. What was it about Ange all of a sudden? Sure, maybe he had acted heroically on the Agro Ship, but wasn’t it to save his own skin? Brie doubted that there was anything valiant at all in his actions. She knew that if people were to realize her distain for him they would think she was jealous for receiving all the glory but that wasn’t it. That wasn’t it at all.
Okay, enough about Ange Brie thought to herself. She smiled slightly upon hearing that she had been reelected. She wasn't really surprised, if she had been reelected from the brig she knew that a coma wouldn't make a difference. She was happy and proud that Amy had been nominated as well. Gold Squadron was made up of a great group of loyal people.
"Amy," Brie said out loud. She had waited long enough. She was no longer hooked up to any equipment, her vitals were strong, there was nothing stopping her from finally being able to see Amy. Brie put both feet on the floor, pushed up off the bed and took a couple of steps forward. She then fell for a second time. "Frack!" she said loudly.

Brie stayed on the floor a couple of microns, trying to figure out how she was ever going to get up. Her problem was solved when the door flew open and Doc Bjk entered. "Brie," she said quickly, helping her to her feet, "you can't get out of bed without assistance. I'll have you restrained if I need to."
"Why can't I walk?" Brie asked, ignoring the threat. She sat back on the bed.
"It's going to take some time," Doc explained. "Pierce knew what he was doing, that shot you took to your leg did a lot of damage."
"I thought it had healed," Brie said.
"It's ALMOST healed," Doc corrected. "But your leg, with the surgically repaired muscles, isn't used to having to hold your weight. Plus there was some atrophy in your legs and your arms while you were in the coma."
"My muscles were just wasting away?"
"It could be worse," Doc said sympathetically. "We have machines that stimulate the muscles and we used them while you were in the coma, but we couldn't do too much without fear of reinjuring your wounds. Brie, I can't stress what bad shape you were in after the Agro Ship. But you're doing remarkably well now, and you're scheduled to start physical therapy first thing in the morning."
"If I'm doing so well, why do I have to stay here?" Brie wanted to know.
"Let's give it through light cycle," Doc suggested. "Besides, where are you going to go? Skyler moved into the Gold Squadron CO's quarters when they thought you had died on the Cylon moon. You need to give him time to get his things together."
Brie rolled her eyes. "You know as well as I do that Skyler never unpacked. He could be out within a centar."
"Yeah, you're probably right," Bkj agreed, "but you're still staying through light cycle." Brie crossed her legs under her on the bed and purposely started to pout. Doc grinned. "But I do know one way to cheer you up. You have a visitor." Doc walked over to the door, opened it, and Skyler rushed in. "Fifteen centons," she whispered to him. "She needs her rest."

You have a visitor." Doc walked over to the door, opened it, and Skyler rushed in. "Fifteen centons," she whispered to him. "She needs her rest."
Skyler nodded to the Doc as she left the room and turned back towards Brie. Even after all she had been through, she was still beautiful. He went over to her and hugged her gently, not wanting to hurt her. Using all his inner strength to keep his voice from showing the emotions he was feeling he spoke.
"Brie, you don't know how happy I am to see you awake. You gave us... gave me a real scare there." The slightest crackle in his voice betrayed his emotions. "I don't know what I would have done without you.."
A tear escaped from his eye and ran down his check...

Brie shook her head, the grin spreading across her face. "You know exactly what you would have done, Captain. You would have done your duty. You're a warrior first, and I expect nothing less. You would have kept being the best viper pilot and warrior that you could be, and you would have kept leading Gold Squadron, at least until the election. I can't thank you enough for that, by the way. I always knew that the squadron was in good hands. Now come here and give me a real hug. I'm not going to break, Skyler." They hugged again, closer than before. Skyler then took a seat next to the bed. "So tell me, what's been going on?"
"Not too much," Skyler replied. "It's been pretty quiet."
"There are Cylons in the area," Brie said, staring at a point far past Skyler. "I don't know how I know that, but I do. I tried telling Doc Bkj, but she didn't take me seriously."
"I know that Major JustinB has been sent to check something out,” Skyler told her. “I haven’t heard his status. But I’ll put everyone unofficially on alert, just in case. But enough of this felgercarb. How are you feeling?”
“I’m great,” Brie lied. Skyler raised his eyebrows. "Okay, I'm good. I guess. A little sore. Weak, which is something that I'm just not used to. Imagine, the 'high and mighty Major Brie,' having to learn to walk all over again, like a little child."
"Brie," Skyler started, a slightly surprised look on his face.
Brie laughed. "Don't look at me like that, Skyler. I'm not deaf, I know that's what people call me behind my back. That, or some variation of 'Ice Princess.' I never really cared, to me it meant that I was doing my job. But now?" She sighed. "I'm frustrated as hades, Skyler. I've been taking care of myself since I was three yahrens old, but this is all brand new ground for me."
"If anyone I know can come back stronger than ever, it's you," Skyler remarked.
Brie smiled again. "You're so sweet. Full of felgercarb, but sweet, nonetheless. Yeah, I'll be back. Hopefully out of here and back to light duty after light cycle. But I'm growing old. I don't know how much fight I still have left in me."
Skyler started to laugh. "Now who's full of felgercarb?"
Brie laughed as well. "No, really. How many active viper pilots are there in the fleet who are my age?"
"How about most of Blue Squadron on the Galactica?"
"Okay," Brie conceded, still laughing. "But they're the exception to most rules. Besides, you had to leave the Callisto to come up with an example."
Still grinning, Skyler glanced around. "What's this?" he asked, picking something up off of the floor and handing it to Brie. "A Black Squadron patch?"
"Oh," Brie said quickly, "I think that Justin wanted to make sure that I knew he had been here. Probably right before he left for his mission."
Skyler looked confused. "I wasn't aware that you and Justin were that close."
"We're both long-term squadron leaders," Brie said more defensively than she meant to. "We don't have to be close to have a mutual respect for each other. I would have done the same thing for him."
"I'm sorry, I..."
"No," Brie interrupted. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. I told you, I'm growing increasingly frustrated. Justin's a nice guy. He's got bad taste in squadrons, but besides that he's okay."
"So what can I do to help lessen your frustration?" Skyler wanted to know.
Brie smiled again. "I need information. Every file on everything that's happened in Gold Squadron since I left for the Cylon moon. Hawke was supposed to get that for me, but then the whole coma thing happened. You'll do that for me, won't you, my friend?"
"You're supposed to rest," Skyler reminded her.
Brie rolled her eyes. "I fell asleep in the brig, and woke up on the Agro Ship. I fell asleep on the Agro Ship, and woke up in Sick Bay. I fell asleep in Sick Bay and woke up sectars later. Believe me, Skyler, the last thing I want to do is rest.”

Before Skyler had time to tell Brie whether or not he would get her the files, the door to her room opened, and Doc Bkj entered. "Skyler," she started, "just how quickly can you have your belongings out of the Gold Squadron CO's quarters?"
Skyler grinned. "I moved them out when it was announced that Brie's conviction was faked."
"Why?" Brie wanted to know.
Doc sighed. "The Sick Bay is for sick people. Now I had wanted to keep you here for a couple more centars, but there's been an accident on the firing range, and quite frankly we need this room."
"Was it bad?" Brie asked, concerned. "What happened?"
Doc looked at Skyler. "We need a centon before I can release her.” Skyler nodded and left the room. “Just a bunch of cadets,” Bkj continued, starting yet another exam. “They took the 'fire' part a little too seriously. It was put out right away, but there was a lot of smoke, so that means we'll be holding some of them here for observation." She made a note on Brie's chart. "I'm releasing you for light duty. Paperwork is fine, I'll even okaying you for simm time. Just nothing too strenuous. If I hear that you even suggested going along on the mission to look for Major JustinB...”
“Justin’s missing?”
“I don’t know the details,” Bkj continued. “All I know is that Major Lucian is organizing the search and rescue.” She paused, remembering how much time Justin had spent at Brie’s bedside. “You know how squadron leaders are. Nothing ever stops them. You look great, Brie. There’s no reason for me not to release you.” She walked to the door and Skyler reentered. “A couple of rules, though. It’s a wheelchair until your physical therapist says otherwise. Don’t forget, your appointment is in the morning. Don’t overdue it, get plenty of rest. And I want to see you back here before the end of the secton, sooner if you have any pain.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Brie said with a grin. Skyler helped her into the wheelchair and even though it was motorized, pushed her towards the door.
“Oh, and Brie,” Doc called after her. “I thought you might want to know, Amy is awake. All visitors need to go through Abby, but I’ll let her know that you’ve been cleared to see her.”

Although she hated being in a wheelchair, Brie enjoyed the ride to her quarters immensely. Followed closely by Enoch and Jared, Skyler was pushing so they were going faster than the motor would have allowed. Every few centons someone would stop them and welcome Brie back. She couldn't help but eat up all the attention. The last time she had been led through the hallways of the Callisto she had been in shackles. That was now all behind her. "Gold Squadron is the best," she commented.
"There wasn't one member who didn't stand behind you," Skyler told her. "The integrity of this group is incredible. I knew that before, but they proved it during the tribunal. Gold Squadron sticks up for its own. In fact..." Skyler stopped, bent down, and whispered something in Brie's ear.
"That's a great idea!" she replied enthusiastically. "How can I help?"
"You put out the call," Skyler said, starting to move again. "I've already taken care of the rest."
A few centons later they were outside of Brie's door. She typed in her security code and it slid open. As Skyler wheeled her in Brie wiped a tear from her eye. The last time she had been there had been right before the mission. Upon returning to the Callisto she was arrested, sent to the brig, and eventually ended up in Sick Bay. There was a time that she thought she'd never enter this room again. She looked around. The room was totally barren. All of her possessions had been dispersed when her will had been read because the bridge staff had misinterpreted a message from the Galactica and believed that the mission team had all perished. "I was going to do something," Skyler explained, slightly embarrassed, "but I didn't realize that you'd be released so quickly."
Brie smiled. "That's okay. It's good to be home."
"You must be tired," Skyler commented.
"A little." Brie felt bad about lying to one of her closest friends, she actually was invigorated, but she wanted to be alone. The last time she had been in this room she didn't know the whole truth about Turner's death, hadn't admitted to anyone that Amy was her biological daughter...so much had changed. "It's a big day tomorrow. I'm starting physical therapy, so I can get out of this fracking thing."
"Okay, then I'll let you get some rest. If you need anything..."
"Skyler," Brie called, "there is one favor. Could you contact Captain Urdea, have him call off the watch daggits?”
“Are you sure?” Skyler asked. “We don’t know if any of Pierce’s followers are still out there. And it’s Major Urdea now.”
“Oh, I guess I have been out of it for awhile. Yeah, I’m sure. I was kidnapped out of the brig, for Sagan’s Sake. If someone wants to get to me, they will. I’m not going to live the rest of my life in fear, Skyler. I can take care of myself.”
Skyler nodded. “I know you can. I’ll contact Urdea. And I’ll see you soon.”
Brie smiled. “Thanks, my friend. For everything.”
