"Update, Colonel?" Sheba asked.
"From all reports, all squadrons are reporting in and are being briefed by their commanders. We should be ready to launch on time, Commander," I replied.
"Good." Sheba said matter of factly.

Skyler nodded at Lazant as he entered. Lazant was less than impressed with what he had witnessed so far. There was an alert, for Sagan's sake, and the elite team was supposed to be gathering in front of him. What the frack was taking them so long?
Lazant wasn’t so sure about Skyler. He knew his record, impressive as it was, but his lack of motivation surprised him. Skyler was so close to leading the squadron and although he had been nominated a couple of times seemed perfectly happy as Brie’s second. Lazant just didn’t understand it. Why Skyler had been chosen to lead this mission instead of himself he wasn’t sure, but he would pretend to be happy about having been appointed the team’s SIC. But there was something else about Skyler, something that Lazant couldn’t quite figure out. He knew that he had been engaged a couple of times, his first fiancée died but the second had broken the engagement for some reason. Lazant wondered what that reason was. He wanted to find out, it never hurt to know as much as possible about the people around you.
Still, Lazant knew that Brie trusted him. What the frack does that mean, she trusts you too he thought to himself. But Brie’s trust in Skyler was more than as a co-worker, she had placed her precious squadron in his hands. Why she would trust him like that, after the way his chosen pilots were so slow in answering the alert, he wasn’t so sure.

Logan watched the Warriors in the Ready Room with interest. The usual suspects were already here...Ike, Wraith, a few others. She recognized Lazant from the moon mission and assumed he had been put here for good reason. She wasn't sure what to make of him. She had only talked with him on a few occassions, mostly in prep for the moon mission. She found him distant and harsh, yet capable. She reserved any other judgements until she really had more basis for her observations. But she did note that he didn't look pleased at all at the micron.
Where was Brik? No sooner had the words formed in her mind, than he walked throught the doors with purpose in his stride. He scanned the room briefly, saw her seated in the back and headed for the empty seat beside her. He nodded and gave her a wink as he took his seat. She couldn't help but notice the dreamy look in his eye and be happy for her friend.
Skyler had come in and thrown a folder on the desk, looking more harried than she could recall seeing him in a long time. This mission must be a doozy.
He seemed to be waiting for something and Logan fought against her impatience. If Skyler was waiting, than it was for a reason. Lazant eyed Skyler sharply and she could tell from the set of his jaw that he was wondering what the hold up was.
Logan half expected for Ally to be here. She knew that the girl was a fracking fine pilot and had skills that would be useful on the mission at hand, whatever that may be. She was quick on her feet and that counted for a lot in the types of situations Gold often found themselves in.
Logan waited with the rest of Gold as the final members of her Squad came in and took their seats, waiting to see what the Lords had in store for them this time.

"Thirty centons to launch. Thirty centons to launch. All pilots to ready rooms! All pilots to ready rooms!"
“Thirty centons! Lords, it could take cycles to do this right, and they’re giving us thirty centons. Fracking idiots!” griped an Engineer who was trying to assemble a portable gen-set. “Then, they want us to take this stuff ON TO A CYLON BASE STAR? I didn’t sign on to do this felgercarb.” There was a chorus of agreements with his sentiment.
Some distance away, Major Lucian looked up from the computerized list he was scanning. Picking out the voice and matching it to a face, he said under his breath, “Should’ve known.” Stepping around the crates, he approached the discontented young engineer, who went silent and turned white when he saw the Major standing in front of him.
Lucian looked at him for a moment, then looked around at the rest of the Engineers surrounding the three shuttles. He said, “Engineering Corps, listen up for a micron. Mr. Fraentz, here, made a couple of good points just now. Thirty centons is entirely too short a time to do what we’re being asked to do. Fortunately, the good folks on the Galactica saved us some time by wargaming this some time ago, effectively preplanning part of it for us, but we still don’t have the time we need to learn their plan, make it our own, and do it right. We’ve just got about twenty-nine centons now. Secondly, most of us wouldn’t have “signed on” to do something like this if we’d had any other options, but our ‘friendly’ neighborhood Cylons sorta took our choices away from us when they wiped out our planets and drove us into space. Now, we’ve all got to do things we’d rather not do if we’re going to have a chance to survive. By us going on this little mission, restoring power on that ship where our people need it to fulfill their assigned tasks, making sure that those tinheads don’t restore it where we don’t, and helping out with this other stuff,” he said, pointing to a number of other crates, “we may be helping save our people, our Fleet, and maybe even all of humanity, for a little longer at least. So everyone, including you, Mr. Fraentz, I expect you all to take the most advantage of the next twenty-seven or so centons that you can. Understand?”
“Yes, Sir!” said Fraentz and all the others, suddenly realizing that their assigned mission was actually much more important, and possibly much bigger, than they had imagined. They redoubled their efforts as they went back to work.
As he started over the list once more, Lucian looked at his hand picked crew of Engineering officers. Seeing their efforts, he struggled for a moment to keep from smiling, then gave in to the urge.

"Major, where da ya want this stuff?" asked young female sergeant, leading a squad of Colonial Troopers carrying a number of crates and cases. "You guys aren't planning to travel light, are you?"
"No, Sergeant, we're invading a Cylon base ship. We don't have the option to travel light," he said with a wry grin. "Here's the list of participating Engineering Corps staff, and the ship to which they're assigned. Their suit requirements are listed by each. Make sure you split that stuff up correctly, then double check it when you're done. I don't want to get to that ship, land to find that there's no life support, and then find out that none of these things fit. Unfortunately, we've got so much to do that we won't be able to suit up until we're already on the way."
"Don't worry, Sir," replied the Sergeant, "you'll get your suits, and they'll fit just like that chart sez. As Colonial Troopers, we go places, break things, and kill our enemies, Cylons or otherwise, but anytime someone wants to help us out, we're all for it, and we'll help'em as much as we possibly can, any way we can, to do it!"

Walking into the room Brik saw Skyler...and Captain Lazant. This must be big and REALLY dangerous. Between the Captian being here in whatever capacity and the look on Skyler's face...well, at least he wasn't leaving a daggit behind to be fed...or re-charged...whatever.
Scanning the room revealed the prescence of Logan and he turned to go sit with her. Given the newest developments in his life he had no fear of Logan's comments and had learned to treasure her opinions.
Before she could ask he leaned over and said "Don't ask...it's a long and complex story that I don't know the whole of yet." He leaned into whisper-and-secret range to continue... "I think some daggit of a warrior, maybe in her very own squadron gave her a real bruise of an eye." His voice was entirely normal but Logan knew her friend better than that and felt his tension...as well as notice his rather large hands ball into fists. She had always know that Brik was a large man (how could you not notice?) but she had never truly been given a reason to think...and worry about the results of such mass turned against another warrior in personal combat. The feeling that she got from him told her that it was a possibility. She believed that he didn't yet know this about himself and resolved to keep an eye on him...

(For Bronze this carries over from thread 36L- Ally and Bronze Squad prepare.... )
Ally led the way into the Gold room, followed by Ho-down (Janey), Bulk-up, Hush, Grease, and Weasel. Faces turned toward them, and Ally felt like she was back in the academy, entering a strange classroom for the first time. She kept her expression neutral, wondering if the stares came from them being in Bronze or cause of the bruise on her face.
She knew that the silence greeting them was cause of the meeting about to begin. To imagine any other reason was just letting her imagination run loose. She'd come to find that Gold wasn't the big bad stuck-up squadron she'd imagined it to be, and given time the others would see that too. Hopefully.
She scanned the room, saw Brik and Logan, but let her eyes pass over them. She wasn't sure how the rest would take her already knowing members of Gold, seeing it for themselves, so she avoided it for now. She was Bronze, and admit it or not the others in her group were depending on her to guide them through this. She picked some seats several rows behind Brik, and they all sat quietly.
Ally looked down the row at her squadron-mates, and could tell they'd all rather be down with their vipers and the rest of Bronze squadron. Well, this is what they'd always wanted, Ally thought. Me too. I guess we should be careful what we wish for... She looked toward the front of the room, saw Skyler, and immediately thought about triad, smiling inwardly for a micron....

Logan had just made herself a promise to keep an eye on Brik when several Warriors walked into the Ready Room. She looked in the direction of the door and wasn't too surprised to see Ally there, but there were also five other members of Bronze Squadron entering with her. What the frack? Well, this just got a whole lot more interesting.
She exchanged a quick glance with Skyler, raised her eyebrow questioningly, and sat up a little straighter to see what would happen next.
Lazant seemed edgy. Almost like he was ready to leap from his chair and take over the briefing himself if they didn't get started soon. But the Bronze Squadron's entrance seemed to have him as flummoxed as the rest of them.
Brik sat motionless next to her. She could tell he half wanted to leap out of his seat and run to Ally to see what was going on, but he was a Warrior and knew what his duty was at the micron, no matter what his emotions were telling him.
Ally hovered in the doorway for a micron, scanned the room and started to lead the squad to a row of empty chairs in the back. She avoided eye contact with anyone in the room and Logan thought she understood why. Bronze Squadron had obviously been tagged for this mission and now would be forced to work closely with the Squadron that they thought embodied all that was good and bad in the Fleet at the same time, Gold. She knew from her conversation with Ally what Bronze Squadron thought of them. She wished it were otherwise, because it could cause problems, especially on a mission where relying on your teammates could mean your very survival and success. But Logan resolved to herself that just as in Ally's case, the members of Bronze would come to see Gold for what it was...a squadron of Colonial Warriors doing their duty to the Fleet. And with that resolution also came a quick promise to herself to give them the benefit of the doubt. She also knew that Ally must feel like she was caught in the middle here. She was in Bronze Squadron and it now was left to her to bridge the gap between Gold and Bronze, at least thats the way Logan would have felt if their situations were reversed.
At that moment Logan saw the ugly bruise on Ally's face that Brik had mentioned. Ally wasn't looking in her direction and it was probably for the best. Logan was good at playing things close to the vest, but she was livid at what she saw and could only hope that she didn't find out who did that to the girl. Here I am promising myself to keep an eye on Brik, but who's going to keep me in check?
As the Bronze Warriors took their seats, Logan made a mental check of each one of them. The girl seated beside Ally was a few yahrens younger than Logan and looked nervous. Logan didn't blame her. Gold had built up a reputation for being a crack team and that had to be intimidating.
There were four male Warriors. One was short and wiry with a long nose. She'd never seen him before. But she had seen the one seated beside him. He was tall and average built with light brown hair. She couldn't remember his name, but had heard a few whispers that he was a quiet genius or something. She'd seen him in the O Club a few times, sitting by himself, going over reports like he was the only one in the room.
The next one was rather nondescript, especially in comparison to the Warrior he sat next to who was a muscular, good looking Warrior. He held himself erect in his chair, broad shoulders pushed back a little too far and a half smirk on his face. Uh oh. There goes trouble. Logan had seen Warriors like him before, cocky, full of themselves, talented, but with something to prove. She made another note to keep an eye on him. If there was trouble from Bronze, she had a feeling he would be in charge of it. She didn't like feeling that way, but humans were humans, regardless of their squadron or job. She knew someone with a bad attitude when she saw them.
Well, gang's all here, she thought as she turned her attention back to Skyler.

Skyler looked over those assembled and noticed the restlessness in the room. They still had 20 centons till the launch. The last ten centons had seemed liked cycles. The next 20 would seem to take forever. His train of thought was interrupted as the last Warriors for his special assignment entered. He glanced up and back at the desk than looked back up quickly. The girl leading the group looked like….. ‘She’s dead’ he thought as he pushed that out of his mind. The Warriors took their seats and he scanned the room one more time to ensure attention was back on the task at hand. With the exception of the perturbed look on Lazant’s face, all were ready. He pushed a few buttons on the control panel in front of him and the huge screen on the wall behind him lit up and displayed the plans for a basestar, at least what they knew about basestars.
“The general plan is simple. We land here (a red dot popped up on the screen), their alpha landing bay. It’s the biggest and can take the amount of traffic we are going to put through there. Expect the place to be crawling with tin cans. We are using Infantry Drop ships for the assault waves, support and tech teams are coming in on regular shuttles. Captain Hector will lead the Infantry and Armor units in taking the bay. The Armor units will hold the bay with several Squads of Infantry, Captain Hector will then take his men he has selected and secure these corridors leading to fuel storage. Access to these areas we will need to be cut off by placing charges here, here and here and blowing them. (the screen changed and the dot would move with each new objective given) It will seal the corridors with debris and any Cylons will have to clear their way to get to you. We will still have to watch for stray Cylons that might be cut off and trapped in the cut off areas. Once we have it secure, Major Lucian will land with the fuel recovery teams and begin the process of pumping their tanks dry. My team will gain access to this area and download the computer core. Major Lucian and Captain Hector, at this time begin your specialized briefings. Assault Teams launch in 15 Centons, support teams, 5 centons after that. Any Warriors not on the ground part of this mission will report to Major Jolan, he is leading the Air portion of the mission and will be the Air Ops Commander. We think we destroyed all the Raiders, but you never know. We may face a new Cylon, purple in color. Captain Lazant will cover that with you” Skyler nodded towards Lazant who looked about as unimpressed as he had ever seen him.
