"'Janey' will do fine" she said. "Pleased to meet you." Brik unconciously stood a bit more straight and close to his full height as he extended his hand to her. "My honor to meet Ally's friend, the pleasure is truly mine." and finished with a polite nod of the head, intended to be an abbreviated bow. He continued to talk as the three warriors walked together slowly down the corridor toward their commom destiny. "I've heard much about the Warriors of Bronze and I think that this mission may be good for us all. I definitely hope so." He looked at Ally and smiled at her in genuine and unashamed affection that managed, somehow, to remain professional. Then he looked back at Janey, almost as if he had to remember his train of thought. "I don't know if you heard, but your friend here saved my hide more than once in that last battle and I'm in her debt. She's represented your squad well and I've come to expect great things. Perhaps the time will come that we can all get to know each other better outside of a battle or mission. What do the two of you say?" Brik meant what he said...to an extent. Many of the Bronze members seemed pretty ok and reasonably professional but he also recognized frustration when he saw it and this squadron had it bleeding from every pore. He hoped that it wouldn't get in the way of this mission...but he knew to keep his eyes open regardless of any optimism he might be prone to feel.

"I'd like that" Janey said in reply, smiling. My, isn't he the charming one! Don't screw this up, Ally, cause I just might be right behind you in line... She didn't really know what more to say. Three's a crowd. "Uh, looks like you and I are assigned the same duties for the mission, Brik. We can talk more on the flight over. Guess I'll go store my gear now...."
She took a step toward the ship, then stopped, turning back to Brik. "You be good to my bud here, or you'll answer to me, hear?" Then she moved away, calling over her shoulder "Nice to meet you by the way!"
Ally turned to Brik, rolling her eyes. "She's been my best friend for five yarhens. We watch out for each other. And...." she paused for a moment, "we tell each other pretty much everything."
She took advantage of the moment since she didn't know when the chance would come again. It wasn't exactly private, with people bustling all around them, but she had his attention.
"Brik, I just want you to know. If I'm being confusing to you, I don't want you to get the wrong idea. Between what's going on between us, and our two units mixing, this has been difficult for me to juggle it all. There's some things going on that I don't expect you to understand." Just then Bulk-up passed by. Not too close, but he looked their way briefly. "I don't understand it all either. But I guess I'm just asking for you to be patient with me..."

For a micron, Logan didn't realize that Hush was still standing there, calmly observing her. "I'm sorry I broke into your conversation like that. I have a bad habit of saying whats on my mind when I think of it. Sometimes it can get me in trouble. I'm sure you and Weasel have your job under control. I wasn't trying to undermine you."
This girl sure likes to talk, Hush thought. He didn't mind though. He envied people with the gift of gab.
Hush broke into a smile. "Don't worry about it" he said. His smile faded, and he stood there, feeling awkward. As he looked into her eyes he remembered why he avoided such situations. He wanted to say something funny to make her laugh, or something remotely half-way intelligent, but as usual he just couldn't think of anything to say.
Too bad too. Logan was very pretty. The kind of beauty that put her out of his league. Which reminded him again of why he avoided these situations.
This isn't a situation, you dumb daggit! It's a mission. Forget how cute she is. Does she really feel that way about the computers?
"Uh" he sort of said, "do you really feel that way about the computers? I was sort of thinking Weasel had a good point there." Even as he asked his mind was back to her beauty. She had eyes a guy could get lost in and never be heard from again. Which, in his case, no one would notice since he didn't say much to start with.
A smile came to his lips. Oh great, I made myself laugh instead!

"Uh" he sort of said, "do you really feel that way about the computers? I was sort of thinking Weasel had a good point there."
A smile came to his lips.
Logan opened her mouth to answer him and stopped. Why is he smiling like that? "Well, yes, he does make a good point. The tincans have had time now to make problems if we try to access the core, but I don't know that they can do much if their power is shot. That and the fact that, they would have to be expecting us in order to know to do anything in the first pla..." Logan stopped midthought as the ramifications of her statement hit her.
Hush just watched her in confusion for a micron, but then finished her thought for her, "You think it might be a trap?"
His strong, but quiet voice brought her back to the moment. One thing is for sure, thought Logan, he may not talk much, but when he did, he made it count. "I really don't see how...they have no power...unless..."
"Hence, the trap." Hush said.
Logan knew that Skyler had enough sense to reach these same conclusions and Lazant, for all his gruff demeanor, wasn't some yokel form the Agro Ship. She wasn't privy to their briefing with Sheba and knew that all these suspicions had probably been voiced more than once in preparation for this mission. But something tickled at the back of Logan's mind, the hairs on the back of her neck were raised in warning again. She had never distrusted her instincts and she knew that now was no exception. Something wasn't right and until she knew what it was, she could only trust in the abilities of her Squadron mates...and Bronze Squadron. Logan suddenly had a very bad feeling about this mission.
She realized suddenly that Hush was still studying her, his head tilted to the side and his arms crossed as if examining some problem that he had been assigned to solve.
"We'd better get onboard." She turned and entered the ship finding an empty seat next to Skyler on the port side, meaning to ask him about her sudden concerns, but deciding to wait until they were underway and he was going over mission specs, which she knew he would do.
She hadn't noticed when she sat, so intent on her positioning herself next to Skyler, that Bulk-Up was directly across from her. She avoided eye contact with him and he seemed content to ignore her for now. She knew they were going to have to work together, regardless of their opinions of each other. But she'd be damned if she'd let him get one of them killed if he started grandstanding.
Hush had entered the passenger area and took the empty seat next to Logan. She exchanged glances with him and nodded in his direction, thinking he wanted to continue their conversation from outside the ship. But he didn't say anything, merely looked at her from time to time. Logan found him very...disconcerting. The fact that he said so little intrigued her for some reason that she couldn't pinpoint. Maybe it was because she herself talked way too much and often before thinking through her thought. She admired his ability to not just blurt out whatever half-cocked notion occurred to him. And he has really nice eyes.
Logan shook her head at the thought and smiled to herself.

Captain Lazant hadn't said anything to anyone after they had left the briefing, but he had caught bits and pieces of some of the conversations along the way. The last one had been between Hush and Logan. It hadn't taken Lazant long to decide that Logan was very opinionated and sure of herself, maybe TOO sure. He had also noticed something between them, the smallest of sparks...
With one last glance around Lazant boarded. He headed for a seat in the back, but not before stopping by where Hush was seated. "Always assume that it's a trap," he said quietly, but loud enough so that Logan could hear him as well. "You'd know that, if you had paid more attention to your studies and less attention to that blonde who sat across from you when you were in the Academy."
Lazant grinned as he took his seat. He didn't even remember Hush from the Academy, let alone if there was a blonde in his class, but there was a serious mission at hand, and that's what they needed to be thinking about. There would be plenty of time for him to flirt with Logan later in the Officers' Club, if they survived.

Skyler was talking to the Crew Chief when six Infantry Troopers walked up, each geared out to the max and carrying vast amounts of firepower. Most was the basic assualt gear, doubled, since they were entering a Basestar. Heck, most of the Warriors on this mission had two blasters, one on each hip, assualt rifles, grenades etc. The Infantry also brought several larger rifles with them. These were the beast Skyler had asked about. Only a couple of dozen survived, and ammo was in limited supply. Mainly used for long distance sniping, with the ability to peirce several inches of Battlestar Armor plate, they were nothing to play with. The Infantry hadn't really had a need for these since the fall of the Colonies and the end to ground war with the tin cans. The few weapons that did survive, were in storage and the ammo hadn't been produced since. They had enough for this Mission, he hoped, but it depended it these could stop the Purple Cylons or not. Each man on the Infantry team were expert shots with these weapons. They had a simulator set up just for it, complete with holographic training rifle. Skyler hadn't shot this weapon since his special ops days. He also knew Ike had been trained with it when he was a grunt.
"Captain, Sgt Gibbs reporting as ordered..." The Trooper snapped a sharp salute and Skyler returned it.
"Good to have you here Gibbs. Launch in a few centons, store your gear and get your men aboard. I want two troopers with each team. We will brief in the air." The Sgt saluted and herded his men onto the drop ship.

And always assume there's going to be one person on the mission with a grudge and something to prove to everyone else. Logan looked from Lazant to Bulk-Up. If you're really lucky, two.
Logan shook her head and realized that this mission was tricky enough without egos getting in the way. Lazant was a good Warrior and very capable. Not much on personality though. She wasn't sure what his remarks to Hush were supposed to accomplish. Was he trying to embarrass him in front of Logan for some reason? Whatever it was, Hush showed no response. He seemed all business, checking and rechecking his blaster.
Logan wasn't used to carrying two blasters, but had to admit as she reholstered the one on her right leg and moved to check the one on her left, that it felt good. Uncertainty was a part of any mission, but the added weight of another blaster gave a kind of comfort.
She looked up as Infantry Troops boarded the Drop Ship and found seats. Skyler's not taking any chances on this one, she thought to herself. She noticed Ally and Janey were quietly talking across the aisle from where she was seated. They seemed nervous, but no more than the rest of them. Bulk-Up was sitting with his arms crossed, scanning the crew, taking their measure. She wasn't sure if he approved of what he was seeing or not. His face was unreadable, but she thought his shoulders looked tense, the veins in his neck tight.
This was the part Logan always hated. The waiting. Once the ship launched, she'd be fine, focused. But all the possibilities of the volatile nature of the mission, the new dynamics of mixing the squadrons, the uncertainty of facing these new Purple Cylons...all these things made her edgy. The sooner they got started, the better she'd feel. It was bad enough she didn't have the seat of her own Viper under her. Once a pilot, always a pilot. It didn't seem natural to be in space and not be at the controls.
She wondered if she should say anything else to Hush. Lazant's interruption seemed to have effectively shut down anything else he might have wanted to discuss. That, or he's afraid if he says so much as a word to me, I'll start talking and never shut up.

Hush sat there, his face impassive as he checked and rechecked his gear. He looked up occasionally, each time glancing at the faces of those familiar to him, the warriors of Bronze. It was comforting somehow to see those faces in the midst of this ship that was soon to drop them into the unknown.
He'd have liked to use Lazant for target practice, but then everyone felt that way at one time or another. He shook his head. The guy was a daggit to be sure. But skill as a warrior was the only thing that mattered here.
Yeah, try to focus on that!
When he could muster up the nerve he stole a glance at Logan. He was keenly aware of her sitting next to him. Every movement she made, every time she brushed up against him, felt electric to him. It made him want to say something, anything to bridge the gap. She was right next to him, yet in many ways was far, far away. What was she feeling? Was she as nervous about all this as he was? Of course, if she's human. And boy was she ever.
He glanced at her, and she glanced back. He nodded, smiled slightly, and looked away. Forget it. This is the one and only thing you have in common. This mission. So focus on that. Still, he couldn't help but steal another glance. How can anyone look so beautiful armed to the teeth like that?
She looked over, again catching him looking. Say something. Anything. He leaned over toward her. "I suppose it's too late to ask that we swing by the Rising Star on the way?" He sat back up straight again. What in hades did that mean? Stupid. Stupid. That's why he never said much. It was easier to just accept and be who he was. The quiet guy. The alone guy. Hush.

"Colonel? Are they in place?" Sheba asked me.
"I'll check and have it in a micron, Commander," I replied. A call went out to all squadron and unit commanders to check in. It was now or never...

Hush leaned over toward Logan. "I suppose it's too late to ask that we swing by the Rising Star on the way?" He sat back up straight again.
She had been looking at the troops getting seated when he spoke and started to smile as she turned to face him. She waited for him to look at her and leaned in as she replied, "Afraid so. But, when this is all over, how about I buy the first round?" She winked at him conspiratorially.
She sat back up, but leaned in a second time, close enough so no one could overhear and whispered in his ear, "And don't mind Lazant. He doesn't play well with others. I hear he's just mad that the Commander didn't send him in alone to wipe out the entire ship with the sheer force of his crankiness."
Logan wasn't sure why she was trying to put Hush at ease, but there was something very likeable in his demeanor. Oh, stop it, Logan. There's a mission to handle and you're just trying to make sure that Bronze doesn't feel excluded. Thats all it is.
But she did have to admit that there was something different about him. She was used to Warriors that were outside her own Squadron looking at her from time to time and even the whispers behind her back as she passed. But the majority of the time, two things would happen. Most often, they wouldn't talk to her to her face because she intimidated them. She was a confident Warrior and more importantly, a female who spoke her mind. She had learned that life was too short to do otherwise. This sometimes threw people off.
Then, of course, there were the more aggressive types, men like Bulk-Up, who ended up in the Med Lab with a broken nose because they didn't know when to quit. That sort of thing rarely happened. After the second Ensign with roaming hands went flying across a table in the O Club, word spread and the more lecherous types who feared bodily harm didn't bother her anymore.
But Hush seemed different. He was quiet, introspective. Maybe it was the fact that his personality was so different that made her want to talk to him more. She just hoped that she'd have an opportunity to actually buy that round when this was over.
