There was nothing special about the launch. As the Callisto faded from view Lazant smiled to himself, remembering the chosen transportation from his last mission. They had taken a converted Cylon shuttle into the moon base, but the lack of life support inside the shuttle had meant that they needed envirosuits. As luck would have it, he ended up seated next to Captain Amy. For some reason Amy had decided to take his hand and they ended up in a bit of a war of words. But that was before. Although there were very few people he would admit it to he had actually grown semi-fond of the young captain. Sort of.
Unlike that mission Lazant sat by himself. That suited him just fine.

The shuttle ride was quiet. There was some idle chitchat, but little discussion about the mission. They knew what they had to do. A nervousness was present. Although everyone on the shuttle was willing to give up their lives, a fear of the unexpected was there. The baseship started to grow larger out the window. The darkness was eerie for such a ship. "Holy frack!" was muttered by more than one person.

Logan looked around at the prepared yet anxious faces around her. Everyone had their game faces on. Even Bronze Squadron.
She caught Ally's eye and nodded at the girl, giving her as reassurring of a smile as she could manage under the circumstances. Ally nodded back, determination stamped on her face.
Logan took a moment to make eye contact with her friends, Skyler, Brik, Ike, the rest of Gold Squadron. She saw her own dedication to duty and adrenaline for the upcoming battle reflected in their eyes. But there was more there than that...hope, love, humanity, the memories of previous battles and the wish for peace.
The feelings that emanated from her friends during this time filled her with renewed courage and will. She soaked in their energy like it was water and she was dying of thirst.
This is what being in Gold Squadron was about. Not just a name, but an emotion, something that Bronze Squadron didn't understand. They weren't a team of individuals fighting amongst themselves for superiority...they were a united force.
After this they will understand. If they survive.
Logan reached over and took Hush's hand in hers and squeezed it tightly, hoping to transfer some of that feeling to him. He looked at her in surprise for a micron and she smiled at him, offering all the encouragement she could through the look she gave him.

Hush had forgotten about Logan being next to him as soon as the ship was launched. He drew inside himself, focusing on the task he had been assigned and replaying it over and over again in his mind.
When Logan reached over and took his hand, he felt surprise at the contact. He looked over and saw Logan smile at him, but gone now were all the embellishments that he'd been adding on to their conversation. He'd been kidding himself, he was sure of that. They were nothing more than warriors needing to rely on each other to do a job. Anything they had in common began and ended with this.
Hush looked Logan in the eyes, and for the briefest of moments remembered nearly getting lost in them. But now as he looked he only felt the burning desire to make sure those eyes and the person they belonged to got back in one piece. And if he succeeded, he'd take comfort in that fact no matter where Logan was and no matter who those eyes sought out for companionship.
It's better to fully understand the score going in, he thought as he looked straight ahead again. Any unfounded delusions about Logan would only undermine his effectiveness. His mind could wander searching for solium leaks, but on this deal it could mean disaster.
It occured to him though, that he'd never had cause for his mind to wander before, on any assignment. And that it was wandering right now, even as he tried to focus....

The shuttle landed on the dark Cylon baseship. Everyone took their places as the door slowly opened...

Inside the Cylon baseship, a centurion approached IL Commander Cyclid. "By you command."
"Speak, centurion."
"The duty station in landing bay one has sent a report that a Colonial shuttle has landed on our ship."
"What?!"Cyclid almost screamed. "So, the humans think they are bold enough to try and take our ship. We'll see about that! Destroy them...all of them!" The lights in his head began to burn and bubble furiously at the tought of destroying all the slimy Colonials...how dare they step foot on his baseship!

There was a round of shots fired into the shuttle, but they fell safely to the floor, no where near any members of the team. "Cylons are notoriously bad shots," Lazant commented out loud, "but not that bad! Feels like a trap to me."

Skyler watched the Cylons lazer bolts missed their mark.
Lazant commented out loud, "but not that bad! Feels like a trap to me."
"This is where the metal meets the meat people" Skyler turned to the Infanrty Crew Chief in charge of this drop ship and gave a signal. The Crew Chief keyed up his comm unit and spoke a few words and the entire bay was filled with heavy turbo laser fire as the drop ships external mounted cannons opened up. What had been advancing Centurions turned into scrap metal and melted slag. The other drop ships came into the bay opened up with their weapons as well.
The rear access door dropped open on all the drop ships at once and Infantry Troopers spilled out, Skyler and his team among them. They took up positions and picked off straglers the bigger weapons missed. The second wave of Drop Ships entered the bay, they ones carring the armor. Once they had secured the bay, the shuttles carring the tech crews and fuel ships would be landing. Securing the bay was the easy part, holding it would be harder. Access the computer core harder still.

It was the noise that got to Janey the most as the doors dropped open on their transport, and the quiet and calm of it's interior was suddenly intruded upon by the battle raging outside. Without a moments hesitation Janey leaped to her feet and joined the scramble out the door, Ally at her side.
She hit the deck, noting a different sort of feel to the floor. Even that this would feel alien reminded her of how far from the safety of home she really was. She had a moment of panic as Ally left her side and went off in a different direction, but she remembered that her best friend was assigned to a different group. Still, that didn't feel right either. They'd always been together no matter what the assignment. But then, this was a long way from doing Kid's Day presentations. The last she saw of her friend before she turned away was of Ally disappearing into smoke that was beginning to fill the bay.
Janey followed her own group, taking position behind some pillars which dotted the outer areas of the bay. She went from a fast run to a skidding halt as she hit a pillar with her back and slid down low for protection as centurion fire rained in. She popped up once, and could see the silver centurions as they entered the bay, red lights scanning, their droning robotic noises audible even over the sounds of the laser fire and explosions.
"There!" Somebody had shouted out, and Janey looked over in time to see silver cylons entering from another part of the bay.
"I thought these guys were all powered down!" Janey shouted out, shifting her position so she was protected from this new point of entry.
"Their battery packs must be something else!" someone answered her.
"Yeah?" Janey yelled out, "Then I've got a portable music player that wants one!" She popped up, laid down some fire, then dropped down as the soldier next to her popped up to do the same. Just then, the transport's cannons took aim on this new entry point and the noise became deafening once again. Janey ducked down lower, looking over to see that Brik, Logan, and Grease, the others of her group, were doing the same. She looked the other way, but could see nothing of Skyler, Ally, Hush or Weasel....

Ally burst from the transport, head down, following Skyler, Hush and Weasel. The fire was thick both ways, and smoke was filling the bay, making it hard to see. The noise from the transport cannons disoriented Ally for a moment, and in that moment she lost sight of the men she was following. She had a moment of disabling panic, then she made for the nearest point of cover and crouched down.
She gripped her rifle tightly as she listened to the sounds of the battle all around her. The smoke was getting thicker, nearly making sight impossible from her position. She could hear the transport cannons as they continued to fire in a regular beat over her head. Boom-Boom-Boom! She could feel the floor beneath her shake with each volley.
Rifle fire from both sides made a smaller, higher pitched sound as Ally leaned hard to her spot of cover. She wanted to peek her head up, do something, but found herself glued to the spot. If Bulk-up could see me now, she thought.
Suddenly a hand had her by the arm. Ally jumped, and through the haze and her watery vision she could make out Bulk-up's features. His eyes were wide open, a look of excitement on his face as his eyes darted around. How he could see anything, she had no idea.
"Come on" he said, leaning close to her ear to be heard over the din. He yanked her to her feet and pulled her along until she could get some traction and run on her own. Laser fire flew by all around them, crashing into the walls beyond their position with bursts of fire and sparks. Bulk-up suddenly stopped, and before Ally could slow down he pushed her down near some other warriors. She could almost swear he patted her on the shoulder before disappearing back into the smoke.
"Glad you could make it" said a familiar voice. Hush! Ally put her head on his shoulder for a moment, then looked up to see Weasel and Skyler there as well.
"You guys can't ditch me that easy!" Ally shouted as loud as she could over the noise. She smiled just before some fire rained in close by. They all ducked, then Weasel jumped up to send some back. A moment later Ally rose up and did the same, forgetting her bout of panic and joining in the fight.
