One of the main questions I've been asked several times the past few months has been "How long do I wait until the person I'm working with posts?" or some variation of that, so I thought that this would be a good place to address that and a couple of other things. A number of years ago this question came up and after much discussion we decided upon the Five Day Rule. People's schedules and computer access differ as much as our personalities, and you need to remember that just because you have time to post, the person you're working with might not at that moment. Give them five days before moving on. Then, if they still haven't posted, go ahead and reply, but make sure that it fits the other person's character.
Another thing that has been mentioned to me a lot lately, quality vs. quantity. Yes, both would be nice, and I think it's possible. I mention all the time that we should all try to post at least 2 RPG posts a week, not a huge quantity. That would keep the game going nicely and keep everyone's hand in it. If you can post more...do it! But don't wait for some creative genius-mode to strike you, just post. Once you start writing you might be surprised that the quality is better than you expected. We've got some really good writers here, use your talents. But if you don't have time to post try to at least read all of the new posts everyday, or as often as computer access will let you. It will only take a few minutes even on an active day, and you won't get behind on the story.
One more thing. Please have respect for your fellow members. A few years back I ticked someone off...my fault, I freely admit it. But this person, instead of just sending a note saying that I had hurt their feelings, wrote me a really nasty email in big red letters. My daughter was able to (and did) read parts of it from across the room. Now while I was sorry that I had hurt this person's feelings it was nothing compared to how upset my daughter was. There is no excuse for that type of behavior. If you have a problem with someone, write to them and politely explain what it is. Use the same respect when you reply. Don't get fighty, and keep your language clean. No one wants to be yelled at or sworn at. Treat each other with the same amount of respect you’d use for your grandmother.
I think that's about all. I'll step down from my pedestal now.
