Logan returned with the uniform for Brie and stood beside me as we waited.
"Captain, be sure to stay by Major Brie. Perhaps a familiar face can help her through this. If I know Brie, she hates this kind of thing. And with whatever her story is about those babies, the fracking news media will be all over this. Let's try to keep that to a minimum, eh?"
Logan knew all to well what I was saying, "Yes, sir" came her reply...

Gearbox didn't have the faintest clue who this "Brie" person was, he was just glad that it had diverted Capt. Logan and Cheif Gher's attention away from him. He edged toward the back of the crowd and looked for a looked for a way to slip off without being noticed. A manway slid open with a whoosh and several high ranking Viper pilots ran towards the crowed that was surrounding Brie. Gearbox took a quick look around and quickly slipped into the passageway as the door slid close behind him.
"There's got to be some Ambrosia on this ship somewhere" he thought.

Brie sat quietly in the decom chamber, thinking about everything. Her homecoming had been pretty much as she had expected, a series of shock, disbelief, excitement and mistrust. She tried not to think about why the homecoming had even been necessary. Shouldn't they have found her? Why had an alien race been able to save her life, when the best that the Colonial Military had to offer hadn't been able to find her? A new wave of anger swept over her. She took a deep breath. "Patience," she said out loud. "Patience and control."
One of the babies stirred, she was waking up. Brie took her out of the carrier and held her. "Hey, little one, it won't be that much longer," she said. "Then the fun begins. It's going to be a long time until we get settled in." Brie stroked her daughter's face. "I supposed it's about time that I thought up names for you two. Otherwise, your father is going to think that he gets a say, and we just can't have that, now can we? Let's see, how about Cheddar and Gouda?" Brie laughed at her joke, even though the infant couldn't understand. "No, I don't think so. It's got to be perfect."
Brie sat back, deep in thought and rocking the newborn for the rest of the decontamination period. When it was almost over she put the child back in the carrier. The door opened, Charybdis and Logan were waiting for her. Logan was holding a clean uniform. "Thanks," Brie said, taking it from her. "Could you keep an eye on them while I change?"
Logan nodded. "Sure. What are their names?"
"Palma and Petra," Brie replied. "They're identical, except Petra has a birthmark that's really similar to the one that Amy has, and in the same place. But you wouldn't know about that. I'll be back in a micron."
A few moments later Brie returned, wearing the uniform. "That's much better," she said. "Now let's get this over with."

“Ensign, I will get the Crew Chief to get the Vipers ready for launch, it will take a few centons, should give enough time to check in on the bridge and find out what is going on.”
Plwel agreed and both hurried to the bridge of the Rising Star while the Flight Deck Crew Chief moved the Vipers into a launch position and began refueling them incase the emergency involved space battle, if so, they would need every ounce of fuel they could carry.
“Captain, this is Ensign Plwel and I am Major Skyler, we need to talk to one of your tech’s Scapino.”
“Not a problem Major, but I don’t recognize the name, must go by a nick name. I haven’t been skipper here long. The original CO retired about a yarhen ago.”
Skyler handed a data disc to the Captain, “His information is up here, while you look at this, can I contact the Callisto for a micron?”
The Captain nodded and motioned to the communications panel. Skyler entered his command codes and opened a channel to the bridge.
“Major Skyler to Battlestar Callisto.”
“Callisto here Major, what do you have to report?”
“We picked up and alert after we landed, do we need to return, or alter our plans?”
“No Major, continue as planned, understood?” it was Sheba’s voice that had came back the second time. Something was different about it, she didn’t sound quite like herself.
“Understood Commander, have a shuttle dispatched to bring Scapino back the Callisto, the Captain of the Rising Star is getting him now. We will begin questioning him here, but I was thinking a meeting between Scapino and Kalten might produce some interesting results.”
“Shuttle is being readied at this time Major.” Genie replied.
Skyler acknowledged and closed the channel returning to Plwel and the Captain.
“Major, Scapino is not on the Rising Star, but I have a Baer that may be Scapino. I do not show him being assigned duty here, he just showed up on the system. It was before my time, so I don’t know how the records just showed up. Scapino was reported absence around the same time. According to the personnel records you have, they have the same blood type; about the same age and build. The imagine scan on the Baer’s records are a little fuzzy, so I can not be 100% sure, but I think your Scapino looks like a younger Baer” the Captain reported to Skyler as he walked up. “He is on duty at this time, and I requested he report the bridge to check the communications system” “Thank you Captain.” Skyler responded back.
“Major, I know this Baer, I mean, he had worked on my shuttle craft systems a few times, we exchanged some small talk, nothing exciting or anything. I wouldn’t call us buddies or anything.”
“Thanks Ensign, good work.”
Skyler’s personnel communications unit beeped and he pulled it up and looked at the message. He closed his eyes and opened them slowly, allowing them to focus on the screen again. And Alien craft containing Major Brie and two infants…. His body numb, he returned Logan’s message. <<Logan, I received your message, did I read, Brie is alive and has returned?>> Skyler blindly replaced the small communicator on his belt, waiting for the reply. She survived, he knew she wasn’t dead, he knew it. He had felt it. Everyone else had been too quick, if they hadn’t called off the search so soon they might of have found her sectares ago, before so much time had passed. He had to get back to his Viper, he had to get to her. The infants, the babies, Brie’s Babies…. She had the babies….
“Major Skyler, Baer is here.” Skyler’s thoughts were interrupted and he was brought back to the mission. Turning Skyler laid eyes on a man, in his early 60’s. Judging by the picture on Scapino’s personnel folder it could be his father, but Skyler knew better, it was Scapino, but why had he changed his name?

Ensign Plwel looked at his commander who looked like he had just seen a ghost....."Is everything alright sir?" Plwel asked. Major Skyler seemed to be in a world of his own....not really able to focus on anything. Bouri pulled him aside privately as Baer reported to the Captain of the Rising Star. Plwel asked again "Sir, is everything alright on the Callisto?" "Yes Ensign....there is no emergency...just....." Skyler responded. "Just what sir?" Plwel asked "I can't explaion to you right now, but I have to get back to the Callisto as soon as possible. I have ordered a shuttle from the Callisto to come and pick Baer up to take him back for questioning....I.........I...."
Seeing the distress in Major Skyler's eyes, Ensign Plwel simply reponded "I've got it sir....go" Major Skyler looked up quickly with suprise and amazement and responded "What did you say Ensign?" Plwel repeated "I can handle this sir....I will wait for the shuttle to arrive, get Baer on baord and then escort the shuttle back to the Callisto with my Viper....you can trust me sir....I will bring Baer to the bridge once we have returned and await fruther instructions."
Major Skyler's face changed at that moment from one of distress and worry to one of sheer excitement. Bouri did not know what was going on for sure, but whatever it was it was a life changing moment in his commander's life. Major Skyler placed his hand on Plwel's shoulder and said " Thank You Ensign Plwel..........Thank you Bouri......I have every confidence in you and thank you for your assistance and understanding in this matter."
With that, Major Skyler turned to the Captain of the Rising Star and said "Captain, I have been called back to the Callisto on an urgent matter. I am turning this mission over to Ensign Plwel. He acts in my stead and with my authority in this matter. He will escorting Baer back to the Callisto." "Very well Major." the Captain responded. Major skyler looked a Plwel again for a brief moment then bolted off the bridge with speed Plwel did not think was humanly possible and headed towards his Viper on the launch deck...........Plwel had never heard anyone in a command position refer to one of their subordinates by their first name before....Ensign Plwel hoped he had, in some way helped Major Skyler and was honored by the trust he had put in him being as new to the Squadron as he was..........

"As you're well aware, the Commander wants to speak with you immediately for your debriefing," I said once the door opened and Brie had changed into a clean uniform.
Just at that moment, something small, something furry, scampered around the decon chamber and ran straight through my legs! I wasn't sure what it was but I turned around quickly and caught something out of the corner of my eye...
Logan wasn't sure what had happened either. "Sir, are you alright?" she asked.
"Didn't you see that?"
"See what?"
"It looked like a...furry tail!"
Brie and Logan shot looks toward one another probably wondering who was the one who had been in need of a debriefing...
"Uh, well. Let's get this over with, Brie. The sooner the better, huh?"
We left the landing bay area and headed for the bridge. But deep in my mind I wondered what that thing was and if we should be more worried about finding it...

The group for the debriefing was small. Colonel Charybdis was there, as was of course Commander Sheba. Both Majors Urdea and Jorlan were there as well. A few other people were scattered around the room, Brie wasn't sure of all their names. Captain Logan was present as well. Why, Brie wasn't really sure, except that she would certainly be reporting to Skyler. Brie felt his absence but didn't mention him to anyone. He wouldn't like what she had to say. She entered the room slowly and put the carriers on the floor near the chair that she was sure was hers because the recording equipment was set up by it.
The look on Sheba's face upon seeing Brie was one of amazement. "You're proof that miracles still happen, Major," she said. She offered a hug.
After the embrace Brie knelt down to one of the carriers. "Here's your proof of miracles, Commander. Would you like to hold one?" She placed one of the babies in Sheba's arms.
A look crossed the Commander's face. It was a look that Brie knew all too well, feelings of regret because of the way that things had to be. But things could change. Brie now knew that for sure. She took the other child out of her carrier. "I haven't quite gotten the twin thing down yet, so if you'd like to hold her for a little while I'd appreciate it."
"I could get someone to watch them…"
"No," Brie said quickly, loudly. She took a deep breath. "I'm sorry Ma'am, that was uncalled for. I'm all they've ever known, and they're all that I've had for the past several sectars. Even before they were born, they kept me sane. I left them a little while ago for a few microns to change into a uniform and regretted every moment of it. Please, let them stay."
"Of course." Commander Sheba took her seat, still holding one of Brie's children. Everyone else followed suit. Sheba cleared her throat. "Where do you want to start?"
Brie looked at her child. She was holding Palma, who was wide awake, chewing on her fingers. "Why don't we start with why I was left behind? Was I even given a second thought before the fleet left the system?"

Having finally found the Officers Quarters, Gearbox pulled up a stool and stared at the small glass infront of him. It wasn't Ambrosia, that was for sure, but at least it might help him get his mind off the confusion he was feeling. He'd been aboard the BattlestaR for hours now and still hadn't been given any specific directions from anybody in command. "If I can't get an assignment soon," he thought, "maybe I'll just request a transfer". At least he'd known what his duties were when he was First Officer on the garbage scow. "They've got to have it more together on a BattlestaR," he thought.

Continuing to walk with Ensign Upham, a dear friend unseen by Brik for the last couple of yahren, the two continued to talk and catch up while making their way to the bridge...Captain Brik passing through the officers quarters to pick up an extra blaster and holster. He had learned his lesson from previous missions and found himself thinking of sonic grenades . . .which reminded him to get two sets of combat earplugs and put them in his pockets.
" . . .and THAT is how I came to have Starbuck owe me a favor, no felgercarb, I promise!" Brik and his old friend laughed together at the ridiculous story and prepared to share another when they came across another ensign who, predictably, looked lost.
Brik thought about the last roster that he'd seen and mentally cross-referenced this with what he could recall of the ensign's current assignments or disposition.
"Ensign...Gearbox? I'm Captain Brik of Gold Squadron and you look both new and lost." He grinned in a good-natured way and continued. "The timing is rough, as usual, with lots going on today and I only have a moment, I have to get to the bridge. But can I be of service before I go? Once things calm down you'll be given an assignment, you can wager on it."

"Major Brie," Commander Sheba said sternly, "you must realize that an extensive search was made. Major Skyler and Gold Squadron searched the area of the explosion and the planet below extensively. If there had been any sign…"
"Excuse me, Ma'am," Brie interrupted, "but any sign of what? My body? My escape pod? Obviously neither one of them were ever found." Brie took a deep breath. Patience and control, a voice said inside her head. "I'm sorry, Ma'am. That was totally uncalled for. I have no excuse."
Major Jorlan got Brie a cup of coffee and placed it in front of her. "Here, Brie. As I remember, you were rather addicted to the stuff."
"Thanks." Brie shifted Palma so that she was over her shoulder, and then took a long sip of the coffee. "This is really good. It's been so long. Where do you want me to start?"
"How about with the events leading up to the explosion?" Sheba suggested.
Brie took another sip of her drink. "I was on my way to the Galactica, to meet with Commander Apollo. It was right after I messed up the prisoner transfer mission. Doc Bkj had just confirmed what I already expected, that I was pregnant. The flight to the Galactica was good for me, it gave me a chance to think. There was no indication that anything was wrong. Then suddenly, my readouts went crazy. The next thing I remember, I was waking up, surrounded by humanoids. They were of the same species that Captain Brik and I had run into during the prisoner transfer. I was badly wounded and they helped me get better, even though I couldn't understanding a fracking thing that they said. And once I had healed, they let me have one of their ships. I think they wanted to get rid of me. I had to modify it quite a bit, but it's an amazing piece of technology. Lucian is going to love it. Is he still on the Galactica?"
"Yes," Sheba said. She glanced down at Brie's second child, who was still in her arms. She had fallen asleep. "Please continue."
"I don't really know what else there is to say. I took a break from working on the ship when time for my delivery grew close."
"Where were you all this time?" Major Jorlan asked. "Any idea how far from the explosion?"
"Not far at all," Brie replied. "I was on the planet that was right below."
"That's impossible," Sheba said. "Major Skyler searched the area extensively, and all reports indicated that the surface of the planet wasn't habitable."
"I wasn't on the surface," Brie replied. "There's an underground city. If Skyler had searched a little bit harder, he would have found me."
