I spoke up again, "Commanders Apollo and Sheba. As second in command of the Callisto, my place is on the bridge, no matter what happens."
Well, might as well do it, who wants to live forever?? I thought. And we might as well take as many of those galmonging cylons with us!

Brie watched as the warriors filtered out of the room. She glanced sorrowfully at Skyler, suddenly wishing that she hadn’t been so hard on him. It didn’t really matter, if the mission was successful she would probably never meet Skyler.
Dreading it, Brie approached Commander Apollo. “Sir,” she started, “I accept command of the fleet while the battlestars are gone. I would like to go on record, though, as being opposed to this mission. I know that you said that you’re hoping that those born in the fleet will just pick up on the colonies, but you and I both know that’s a copout. You don’t want to deal with the fact that if you’re successful, two-thirds of the people that you’re currently protecting will never have happened.”
“Major, we don’t know WHAT will happen,” Commander Apollo said.
“My point exactly. You’re playing with things that you have no right to be messing with. It’s my sworn duty to protect the fleet, not the colonies, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to spend a little bit of time with my daughters before they disappear.”
“If I thought for a moment…” Apollo said, but let his sentence drop. He had thought of it, but accepted the possible consequences.
There were several microns of awkward silence. “I’ll be in my quarters,” Brie said at last. “You can have my orders sent there.” She took a few steps away, then turned back. “I honestly don’t see any ethical difference between what you’re doing, and what Master Pierce did when he tried to take over. You both did what you thought was best for everyone else, no matter how many lives were lost. I wouldn’t normally say something like that to a Commander, but if you’re successful, this conversation will never have happened. And YOUR son was already alive when the colonies were attacked.” Brie turned quickly and walked away, hoping that no one could see that she was crying.

Upon exiting the Briefing room, Ensign Edan had somethign he HAD to take care of.
"Excuse me sir, I'm Ensign Edan. I am officially reporting for Duty with Gold Squadron." Edan held the position of Attention and held out the Hand computer with a copy of his Record stored in it. It contained both his service in Council Security and His placement and scores in the Warrior Academy.
"Thank you Ensign." Sklyer checked the timing of his arrival with the beginning of the briefing. Not that he didn't beleieve the Ensign, but it was good practice for the new guys to know the Magor checked everything. "Looks like your Shuttle arrived barely in time for you to make the briefing. Unfortunately you'll have no time to unpack now either."

"Lt. Bouri-Plwel was looking thoughtfully at Logan, so she turned her attention to him. "Hello, Lt. We haven't met. I'm Captain Logan".....
Lt. Plwel snapped to attention as the Captain approached him. As she introduced herself, Capt. Logan extended her hand to greet him. As she did, Bouri extended his back replying "It is a pleasure to finally meet you Captain......Ma'am I am Lieutenant Plwel......Bouri-Plwel." Plwel made sure that Logan knew his first name as well. "I had seen you once or twice on the ship and was hoping to catch up with you and meet you before this mission got underway." Lt. Plwel went on to say.."You weren't present earlier during my brief promotion ceremony before the briefing started. I had invited all present to enjoy a drink at the Officer's Club on me to celebrate and wanted to extend that invitation to you as well ma'am. I does not seem like that is going to happen now with the time constraints of this mission." Capt. Logan stood there listening to the Lieutenant as she always does...staring him strait in the eye as she did in the briefing room with a firm confident coutnenance and a hint of skeptisism in her expression. Lt. Plwel went on to further comment.." Ma'am, I am honored to be serving with you on this assignment. You must think me a fool to volunteer so quickly for such a risky endeavor.....but I will make you and the Major proud and fulfill my duties to the best of my ability. By your leave Captain, I will be on my way back to the barracks to get my gear and prep for our upcoming departure and perform the pre-flight on my Viper. But before I do, I..........." Plwel immediately stopped speaking and looked away from the Captain for a moment....he hung his head for a milicenton thinking "I wonder if this would be the right moment??" Then looked back up at her as spoke..."But before I do ma'am, I intend to enjoy one drink in the OC on my way. You see, not only to celebrate my promotion, but today is also the day I celebrate my birth. With the uncertainty of the outcome of this mission, it may very well be the last time I get to do so.....I would really be honored, both personally and professionaly Capt. Logan.....ma'am, if you have time, if you would join me. I don't really like or want to drink alone."
As Lt Plwel finished his remarks Capt. Logan's eyes got wide and she stepped back as she took a slight gasp of air. To Lt. Plwel, it seemed like she had never been invited to something like this before and didn't know what to do or say. She immediately looked away from him trying to hide her face. Perhaps she immediately thought of the look they shared across the table in the confrence room during the briefing....maybe she was embarrassed and trying to hide the expression on her face from Plwel. Perhaps she was so offended and angry that Plwel was trying to "pick her up" before a big mission that she couldn't stand to look at him. "I wonder if I overstepped my bounds?" Lt. Plwel thought to himself as he awaited and answer from the Captain. At that moment, Capt Logan turned her face back towards him and spoke.............

Logan blinked several times in astonishment before replying. Is this guy for real? "I figured I'd better introduce myself since this will likely be a life or death mission and it's better to know the people you'll be counting on to save your hide if you get in a tight spot. You seem to be up for it." She wanted to laugh, but kept her face drawn in a professional manner.
Logan attempted to size the man up, especially after his odd behavior during the briefing and now. Of course, with the nature of the briefing, she wasn't positive that she hadn't come off as a brash lunatic in her response to Commander Apollo. But this lieutenant's stare had been intense and his declarations seemed to be a bit showy for someone new to Gold Squadron. But she really couldn't blame his excitement. Gold Squadron had a reputation for taking on the tough missions. She just hoped he didn't come to regret volunteering for this one. And she made a mental note to keep an eye on him. He seemed the sort of rigid recruit who could get in her way. Not that she had problems with by-the-book types. Oh, who am I kidding? By-the-book types drive me crazy. And after that speech, he just might be crazy.
Turning back to face him, she crossed her arms and gave him her best standoff look. "Congratulations on the promotion and the birthday, but I must decline your offer, Lt." She put just an extra bit of emphasis on his rank. Logan had been temporarily taken off guard, but she was back to all business now.
She turned to introduce him to Lt. Persephone. Skyler was finishing up talking to Ensign Edan and made introductions. "Ensign. I was wondering why an Ensign would be so gung ho for this mission, but you look like someone with security experience, so we'll need that expertise."
Edan raised an eyebrow. "How did you know that?"
Skyler patted him on the back as they all started walking down the corridor for Gold's barracks and officer's quarters to retrieve their gear for the mission. "You'll get used to her."

"You'll get used to her."
"Yes sir, I'm sure I will. Captain, you are correct. 15 Yahrens of experience. If you are going to pilot, I'd like permission to secure a Laser rifle for the mission. Not standard equipment for a Warrior strike team, but it has a more effective stun setting and a faster recharge rate for Stunning more then one target. The Security teams live by them on the Astral Queen. It's also why those Eastern alliance Enforcers were able to get their hands on so many when they took the council hostage 30 Yahrens ago. Not the brightest day in Security history."
Edan was starting to feel like one of the team. Which was a good thing, there was always the thought that being ablackshirt before might taint people's opinion of him.

"Fine by me, Ensign. Major?" Logan inquired of Skyler as they made their way to the turbolift. Skyler gave his permission as they entered and the doors closed.
Not being a fan of Black Shirts in general, Logan had to admit to an instant respect for Edan's request and obvious reason for it. They had no idea what awaited them on the other side of that rift, regardless of history. For all they knew history had already been changed with Apollo's decision to take them through. The ensign's security abckground explained why he was only an ensign at his age. Logan knew that fate had a way of playing out in unexpected ways and thought he would be an asset to their team.
Lt. Plwel. She wasn't sure. She hadn't expected his invitation and under other circumstances, she may have agreed. There had been many times that she, Skyler, Brik and others had retired to the officer's lounge for drinks in celebration or relaxation alone. But she had a feeling that basic camaraderie wasn't his intention. And that she hadn't been prepared for. She considered him lucky actually. The last time a new recruit had attempted to 'buy her a drink' he had ended up looking up at her from the deck of the lounge with a bruise across his jaw from the fist she'd unleashed upon him. Not that she would have hit the lieutenant. It was his birthday after all.
"What are you smiling about?" Skyler seemed confused as he leaned in to whisper to his friend.
Coming back to herself as the doors opened near Gold barracks, she immediately straightened her face. "I really don't know."
The mission team exited the lift and separated at the entrance to the barracks. Plwel, Edan and Persephone went one way. Skyler and Logan the other.

As they entered the barracks of Gold Squadron, Lt Plwel, Lt Persephone and Ensign Edan all made their ways to their seperate bunks. Most of Plwel's things were still packed in his issued bag....he had not had time to really unpack his things and get organized since he arrived. Ensign Edan, who was bunked across from him on the other side of the bay, was busy gathering his things and packing them up. Lt Plwel walked over to him speak to him. As he extended his hand he said.."Welcome to gold Squadron Ensign Edan....I am sure you already know I am Lt. Plwel...it is good to personally meet you. I was wondering, when you are done, if you wouldn't want to stop by the OC for a quick ambrosia after hitting the armory to draw rifles before we make it down to the launch bay to do our Viper pre-flights? What do you say"........

Brie hurried to her quarters, ignoring everyone that she met along the way. She had one thing on her mind…her babies. "Brie!" Adara said as she walked in the door. "I didn't expect you back so soon. I've been trying to unpack. The twins are fine, both sleeping. How was your meeting?"
"I need you to repack a bag, we're going off-ship," Brie said. She purposely didn't look at her new nanny.
"Where are we going?" Adara asked.
"I'm not sure which ship, still waiting on orders," Brie said. "But there's no way that my children are staying here. I want to spend every last micron possible with them. Until…" Brie looked up, unable to finish the sentence.
"You've been crying," Adara observed.
"Please, just pack a bag. I need to send a quick message, and then I'll be ready."
"How long are we going to be gone?" Adara asked.
Brie wiped away a tear. "Forever. If the mission goes as Commander Apollo plans, we'll never be here again."

Edan held out his own hand and shoock the officer's hand. "Lt Plwel, I'd love to join you. But just the one. I wouldn't recommend anyone have more then that. We wanna stay sharp Sir. I take it you want to draw a Rifle with me? Have you used one sir?"
Edan was finished quickly. The one item he had retained from his days as a Blacksirt was the Flak Vest. And that was mostly cause even Colonial Infantry wore them. Now he was glad he had. He left his Battle Jacket behind. He strapped on the Vest and made sure his laser was settled on his hip. He drew the weapon and made sure it was set to stunb right then and there.
"The Laser RIfle doesn't exactly work the same way as the laser pistol. It wasn't designed by the same people. It's a little more effective pn stun because it works on a particle acceleration principle. It practically shuts down a human nervous system even on the lower settings. And on higher settings, it can make a Centurian's own power core overload. Explodes them good. I can give you a few pointers in the shuttle."
By now both officers were standing at an armament cabinet.
"Sgt, We need 2 Laser rifles. Full charge, and 2 recharges each."
