It was good, the split was almost even. I noticed that Edan had moved to the ground team and was glad for that, given his experience with ground and tactical skills and I also noticed that Plwel moved to the flight team. He was steady in the cockpit.
But what caught my eye was the fact that Amy was still standing in the middle of the room...

Captain Amy knew that her hesitation going to be taken for something other than what it was, and would only make her look bad. If she couldn't decide on which side to go on, how could she function in the field? She was sure Charybdis would take this as a sign that she wasn't all in on this, but it couldn't be further from the truth.
She watched as Lt. Plwel moved to join the flight team. She envied him, for she wanted to get into a viper again. She had wanted to for a long time, but had not acted on it. Instead she had embraced full time motherhood, secure in the knowledge that there were amble warriors to defend the fleet.
But then came the sickness....
She looked at Charybdis, who seemed to be focused on her out of the corner of his eye. She thought of Kaylee, their young daughter, and more than anything she wanted her to live a full life, free from the Cylon tyranny and any other threats from the galaxy.
Someday, Kaylee would understand. Today, she hoped Charybdis would.
She walked over, head high, to join the ground force, taking her place near Lt. Edan....

EDan watched the Warriors split into groups. he was sorry to see Lt Plwel Choose the Support team, but he understood it. All warriors felt the freedom that flying a Viper brought you. it was something you couldn't describe to an infantry Warrior, or to a Civilian. it was something you feel you were born to do. Edan visually let his friend know that he supported his choice. And Edan couldn't deny it, he felt good knowing that Plwel would be covering the Mission.
Then he looked over at Captain Amy. He didn't envy her position. not for a Micron did Edan think her hesitation to choose had anything to do with fear, or an inability to choose. it was not weakness. All it was was wanting to do what's best for the mission and wanting to help with both roles. She finally let one of the missions win the internal struggle to do both and moved over and stood next to Edan. Without making too much of it, Edan leaned in to Captain Amy and smiled. "Good to be working with you Captain. I look forward to it."
Edan then turned his attention back to the Colonel, waiting to see what came next and very ready to get this mission going.

Edan leaned in to Captain Amy and smiled. "Good to be working with you Captain. I look forward to it."
Amy returned the smile, and nodded. Then she looked toward Charybdis and found herself swallowing hard. Now that she was on a team, on a mission, she hoped that her skills were up to what was going to be demanded of them. It had been a while...
She shook off the doubts that were now really trying to storm in on her. It was only natural to feel this way after so much time had gone by. What she needed was to hit the flight deck, get into the details of this mission, and get to it.
She focused on the front of the room, eager to be doing something. Anything...

As the commander had said, the briefing would be tomorrow morning at 0700 standard planet time. As soon as the assembled warriors had picked which side of the room to stand and the part of the mission they had volunteered for, Charybdis had dismissed everyone. There was nothing to be said until the morning briefing. It was time to get things in order, spend time with loved ones, and get some rest.
That meant everyone had somewhere to go, except for Captain Amy. Her loved one stood at the front of the room, where an overdue conversation waited.
She shook hands with Edan, saying how eager she was to get started. Then she looked around the room, catching a few return glances, the longest from Lt. Plwel. She could feel his confidence even at this distance, and felt secure knowing he was among those flying cover.
And then the path was clear to the front of the room. But Amy just stood there, feeling the penetrating gaze of her husband...

The final warriors filed out of the room, uncertain of what lay ahead the next cycle. And there was Amy...
I took a few steps toward her, "Charybdis, don't!" she said quickly. I had hardly opened my mouth.
"I just want to ask why?" I said, "and what about Kaylee?"
She just looked down for a micron gathering her thoughts...

As the Warriors moved from the room, Edan shook hands with the Captain and then moved to exit with everyone else. He wasn't one to to gossip, but it was pretty obvious that the Colonel and Captain had some talking to do.
Edan moved up to Plwel. as he caught up, he put a hand on his fellow warriors shoulder. "What do you say I get you a grog and celebrate your return to Viper duty. It's been too long, and I am glad to have you covering for us on the ground."

"What do you say I get you a grog and celebrate your return to Viper duty. It's been too long, and I am glad to have you covering for us on the ground."
Lt. Plwel turned his head as he heard Edan's voice and felt Edan's had on his shoulder. "That sounds like a great plan my friend!" Plwel responded back to him as they made their way down the corridor towards the Officer's Club. Lt. Plwel was anxious to be back amongst his fellow warriors again as a fully active member and could not wait to climb back into the cockpit again. He was back in the patrol rotation again. Col Charybdis wanted Plwel to do a solo flight before his first official patrol the next morning. Plwel had planned to ask his friend if he cared to join him on that flight. Hopefully he would have time later on with all the prep work going on for the upcoming mission.
As the two warriors reached the Officer's Club, Edan motioned to Plwel to catch a table while get got each of them a mug. As soon as Plwel sat down, he decided to take advantage of the situation and immediately pulled out his bag of cubits and his pyramid deck and started shuffling the cards. As Lt. Edan stepped away from the counter and turned to walk towards Plwel, he stopped again when he saw his fired sitting with his feet propped up shuffling a deck of pyramid cards in his hands. As Edan stood there with a smirk on his face, Plwel politely motioned for his buddy to sit. As Edan took his seat, Plwel firmly and confidently said..."So Edan, are you ready to loose a Sectars pay to me? You know I still need to recoup my losses from our last game. I believe I can beat you this time, get back what I lost, and then some."
Edan sat thee for a moment staring Plwel in the eye....he then took a drink from his mug and casually pulled his cubit pouch out and tossed it on the table....."I'm in!!" Edan said to Plwel.
As Plwel took a drink from his mug and continued to prepare for the first hand, he was certain this was the time to ask a favor of his friend..." You know Edan, the colonel has asked me to do a monitored solo flight before my patrol tomorrow.....I was wondering if you would fly wing with me? It has been a long time since we have flown together.....not since the sabotage to and accident with my Viper almost 2 yarhens ago. I would really like it if you would fly with me." Plwel looked at Edan for a moment and then started dealing the cards as he awaited his answer....

Amy looked up and just said softly, "you know the reason, Charybdis."
I smiled a bit, not sure why but I had heard this many times before. "I know, Amy. You don't have to prove anything to me or to anyone. I know you think you do but you don't. But now things are different, like it or not. We have a baby, a new life. And with all that's gone on before, if we can help it, I want her to have two parents...and I never want to have to tell her that her mother is never coming back."
Amy looked away. "But, whatever you decide...I will always love you and support you. That will never change."
I leaned in and kissed her on the forehead.

Col Charybdis moved to the other side of the briefing room to speak to Amy, and Skyler moved closer to Sheba to study her plans again.
“Problems Major?” Sheba asked.
Skyler took one longer look at the plans in front of them and turned his head towards Sheba… “Commander everything looks to be in order. You have good people leading both the over flight and the ground mission. Edan has ground combat training and experience. Amy can take care of herself, despite what her jeering fans may say. Once she shakes off that light layer of dust that has settled on her from her full time mother duties raising Kaylee she will be fine. Plwel has been hitting the simulators hard, and while it is not actual space flight, it is the next best thing. He was good before, he will be better now. No problems that I see….” Skyler trailed off…
“I see…” Sheba responded, knowing that something was bothering him, and she knew what. “You know that we have a limited number of Warriors in all Squadrons. We have recalled everyone that can fly a Viper or shoulder a weapon. Gold Squadron fared better than most, that’s one reason I had to pull them for this mission, other then being the best we have to begin with, but we do not have that many seasoned Warriors to pull from to fill the other Squadrons. I know you want to be on both the ground mission and the over flight, but I need you here. IF the Cylons show back up I need my Strike Leader to lead the Warriors we have left to defend this ship, or those on this mission will have no where to return too. If things get hairy on that planet and I have to land Ground Forces, I will need you to lead them. The majority or our Infantry are on Garrison duty on that planet, the ones we have here were the newbies that didn’t have the experience to get the planet assignment. You are the most seasoned Warrior I have, by the Lords, a real Bronze Cluster winner living and breathing. Infantry and Armor trained and a top notch hot shot pilot to boot. As you have said, we have good people on this one; I need you here.”
Skyler shook his head. “I know , but it feels wrong sending my people into harms way on this while I sit it out on the Callisto. It goes against my grain.”
“It never gets any easier…” Sheba sighed looking over at the last of the teams filtering out the doors
