Brie sat on her bed, her back against the wall, and tried to piece together the information that Trula had unintentionally given her. Boleman wasn’t working with Pierce, that was a surprise to her. She still didn’t understand what his comments about needing her to sign meant, but maybe somehow he did have her best interests at heart.
But it wasn’t the time to think about Boleman. Elmer was dead. The only Elmer that Brie knew of was Amy’s father. He was dead? What did that have to do with Pierce? Pierce and Amy’s father moved in totally different circles, they wouldn’t even have known each. Except for the Tribunal. Elmer had testified for Pierce, and hadn’t helped his case at all. Could Pierce have murdered Elmer as revenge?
No, that made no sense. Elmer was a harmless farmer. He had been a very simple man. If Amy hadn’t been found alive he and Abby would probably have returned to the Agro Ship by now.
The Agro Ship. Trula had said, “It doesn’t matter that Elmer is dead, we’re still going to get aboard and carry out our plans.” They were planning on doing something to the Agro Ship. It still made no sense. It was one of the most peaceful ships in the fleet. Besides the battlestars, it was probably also the most important. The fleet’s food supply was grown there and without the Agro Ship there would be widespread starvation. Brie shook her head. Taking over the Agro Ship would bring the fleet to a halt and its leaders to their knees. Pierce could do anything he wanted if he controlled the Agro Ship.
Suddenly it didn’t matter if they thought she was crazy before, Brie needed to speak to someone. “Millie!” she screamed.
Millie came running, thinking that something was physically wrong. “What is it?”
“I need another favor,” Brie said.
Millie rolled her eyes. “My shift is over, I was just about to leave.”
“Please,” Brie pleaded. “I need to speak with Commander Sheba immediately.”
“Commander Sheba is a very busy woman,” Millie reminded her.
Brie took a deep breath. “This is a matter of security for the entire fleet.”
Millie looked worried. “Oh, in that case, I’ll take care of it.” She hurried back down the hall.
Slowly Brie let out her breath. “Good.”
Getting ready to leave as well was Tanya. Millie told her what Brie had said. “Sounds important,” Tanya observed. “You’d better go pass that information along.”
