Blips began appearing on the Cylon fighters scanners. The flight leader spoke to all of his raiders,"Incoming Colonial Vipers. Engage the enemy."
With that, the fight was on!

Meanwhile, back onboard the base ship...
The lead centurion reported again to Cyclid, "By your command."
"Speak, centurion," came the cool voice behind the flashing head of the IL series commander.
"Scanners are now showing that the incoming force is composed of two squadrons of Colonial vipers."
"Hmmm, they are launching an all-out attack. Hold back some of our fighters on patrol. They may be trying something sneaky. It seems like they will be the ones surprised!"

The Galactica's scanners showed the massive exodus of fighters leaving the hive, so to speak. Apollo sat at the control console and watched. Just as he had planned.
"Starbuck?"
"Yo, right here ol' buddy," came the usual response. No different though many yahrens had passed.
"It's all clear. Move your squadrons in and uh...be careful will you?" he chided his old friend.
"Me? Be careful?" Starbuck joked back. "You know me better than that!"
Apollo thought about the comment and said to no one in particular, "yeah, that's what I was afraid of." He smiled as he broke the comm link to the viper.
The battle plan unfolded on the Galactica's bridge scanners. The raiders were flying out to meet the Callisto's viper squadrons so they could be kept busy. Meanwhile, the Galactica's squadrons were moving in themselves to the base ship to knock out the defensive batteries and missile launchers with the Galactica moving in right behind.
Apollo turned to Omega. "Let's go. Right behind the fighters. Notify Sheba we're moving in!"
Omega took the helm and guided the Galactica into position....

Lt. Aegina turned quickly, "Commander. Final word from Commander Apollo. The Galactica is moving in!"
"Let's go!" Sheba commanded.
I stood behind her watching the monitors and getting ready to issue any reports needed from the battle.
The two battlestars were going to pinch the base ship in between them and have a toe to toe shooting match; although with these odds, it didn't look good for the Cylons...

As the Cylon Raiders closed on Gold Squadrons position Logan had that familiar jolt of adrenaline in her stomach. She heard Skyler over the comm, 'Stay sharp. Here they come.' The first grouping of three Raiders shot past Logan, lasers firing all around her as she banked sharply left and rolled her Viper into position behind them, waiting patiently for her targeting scanner to light up. Explosions were peppering the blackness of space all around her as she took out the first Raider, while going through evasive maneuvers to shake the one on her back. 'Logan, I got your six', she heard Ike state calmly. Within a micron the blip behind her vanished as Ike's shot struck home. She focused all her senses on the firefight while admiring Ike's calm tone of voice. She always felt like she was yelling too loudly when she communicated during a battle, letting the rush take over too much, but Ike always seemed so...calm was the only word for it. Another Raider had a bead on her as she flew through the debris field of the one she just destroyed, rolling right and pushing her Viper to its limits. 'Frack!', she muttered as she went through the manuevers that seemed second nature. A shot from another Viper took out her pursuer. Comm chatter was kept to a minimum, but she was aware that the other members of the squadron were probably thinking the same thing she was. 'As much fun as it is blowing these tin cans out of the ether, I hope Galactica gets in position soon.'

Skyler juggled blasting Raiders and monitoring two Squadrons with ease. Countless centars in the sims training for it helped. As his Viper was rocked by debris from the Raider he just vaped, he sent a coded message on Fleet Comline Alpha. To avoid giving away the position of the Callisto or the Galactica, he sent it in a quick burst, multiple directional. The Callisto he knew was monitoring the battle. They always did....
"Engaged Raiders, just 100 fighters, 200 give or take short of believed compliment. Watch your six"
Skyler pulled in behind a Raider tailing a Viper. Thumbing the fire button, his laser reached out and turned it into a fire ball. Kicking his turbos, pulling hard starboard...."All clear Logan.." and went to send more tin cans to the scrap heap.....

(New npc enters the fight! Anyone, feel free to fight by her side!)
Lt. Ally felt the forces of launching press her back into her seat as her viper hurled down the tube, propelling her out into space. She immediately focused her scans on the battle, and formed with the rest of her Bronze squadron wing in heading in that direction. She kept her viper steady on course as she gripped the joystick with her left hand. She was a lefty, and proud of it, something she told anyone who'd happened to notice.
For luck, as she always did when circumstances called for any advantage one could muster up, she kissed her finger and transferred the kiss to the picture taped to her viper's control panel. It was a picture of Skyler: eyes bright, face smiling, that bring-em-on expression on his face. Where the picture was taken Ally had no clue for the face had been cut out and pasted onto the body of a Triad player.
Like many women warriors, Ally had a wish to see Skyler in a Triad uniform one day. League space was tight however, and court time was near impossible, and Skyler did have better things to do than put on the nearly non-existant uniform and go chasing a ball around. But a girl could hope. Plus, the Starliner Alpha had just reopened the restored ballroom and casino, and with the expected revenue soon to be pouring in had announced plans to restore the mostly gutted athletic center and it's multiple Triad courts. If that happened Triad court capacity would nearly triple.
Ally could barely remember Starliner Alpha in it's heyday. She was a little girl of ten yarhens when she'd taken the cruise with her family. It had been the premiere cruise ship for a number of yarhens, with ornate dining halls, luxurious rooms, and that glorious ballroom. But the yarhens had gone by, and the ship had become dated, it's days as a leader passed by as newer cruise ships were built. And even as she took the cruise plans were being made to retire the grand old ship. Ally recalled the article when it was announced that the ship was taken offline and sold to an industrial firm. She saw a few heartbreaking pictures of the Alpha's grand staircase being dismantled a board at a time, and then she'd largely forgotten about it.
Until the attack nearly a yarhen later. The Starliner Alpha had been her savior then as her family had managed to reach the already near-gutted ship before it answered Commander Adama's call and desperately fled it's orbital drydock to meet up with the newly forming fleet. What should have been one of the best ships in the fleet to escape in had been turned into a virtual shell, and Ally's family set up a temporary home on the grand deck with hundreds of other people separated only by sheets and boards and whatever else could be found to get a little privacy. It was a temporary situation that stretched into yarhens...
"Look alive Bronze wing" cackled a voice into her com. She snapped to attention. "Multiple targets ahead. Let's show 'em what we got." The lead viper performed a half roll, and Ally and the rest of her wing banked with it in a tight formation. On her screen and out of her viewport she could see the battle stretching out before her. One more kiss for her fantasy picture, and Skyler's face beamed from the photo as the first cylon bombs rocked her viper...
She laid down fire at a passing raider, missed with the shots, then noticed she'd picked up a raider on her tail...

Apollo was watching and waiting. The Galactica moved quickly now in the direction of the basestar. Suddenly, a blip on the screen!
Omega chimed up, "Commander. Enemy baseship on the radar!"
"Activate all turbolaser batteries. Prepare main torpedoes," came the response from the Commander.
Meanwhile, somewhere on the other side of the planet, Sheba and I were also watching our scanners. Hundreds of blips indicating the raging battle of our vipers and their raiders flashed on the screen. Some darted here and there while others just disappeared.
Just as quickly, a larger blip appeared. Lt. Aegina pointed,"Commander. Enemy ship appearing there."
"Vector in the coordinates. It's time to pay a little visit to our silver friends," Sheba intoned with an air of viciousness that you don't ordinarily see from her.
The pinch was on...

She laid down fire at a passing raider, missed with the shots, then noticed she'd picked up a raider on her tail... Observing the skill of his fellow warriors, Brik was (like most of them, he guessed) highly charged to once again be engaged in pitched battle against his People's arch-enemy...not only was it patriotic but it was fun...particularly when you KNEW that your enemy was a heartless robot! Taking a moment to mentally get his bearings and put on his "Pyramid Face", he noticed that one of the vipers from Bronze seemed to have an unwanted guest on it's tail and seemed to be potentially in trouble. "Brik going to intercept" he called to his wingman as he punched the turbos (Good Lords that was a rush!) to go to the ship's aid. Just as had happened many times (helping and being helped) the Raider was focused on it's prey. A fatal mistake as he fired his mighty weapons and added the Cylon ship-parts to the vast detritus of space. "How was that, Bronze? Gave you a little breathing room!" Then it was ironically his turn...as he looked at his scanner and saw his own aggressive trespasser behind him. And just as quickly saw the warrior that he had just assisted move into firing position and save his tail! "Ok, Bronze, we're even...shall we keep score? Oh, and thanks!" But he didn't conciously wait for (or expect) a reply in the heat of battle, he was certain that he'd meet his new friend eventually. The Fleet just wasn't THAT big.

Ally was pumped as her instincts took over and she plunged into the battle. No sooner had she been saved from the raider on her tail that she was able to return the favor! Her head whipped around, trying for a fleeting look at the viper as it zoomed safely away.
A voice cackled in her com. "Ok, Bronze, we're even...shall we keep score? Oh, and thanks!"
"Not a problem" she replied with a smile as brief as the circumstances allowed. "Didn't catch your name tho..." Her voice trailed off as she checked her scanner.
"I've got a pack of raiders trying to punch a hole through the line. I think they're trying for the fleet!" She kicked in her turbo, setting a course. "I'm going to need help on this one. Form on me..."
Left hand firmly on the joystick, Ally fired off a few shots but she was too far away, though with turbos she was starting to close the gap...
