I was nearing the Med Lab as I stepped out of the turbolift. All I wanted to see how Amy was doing. I ...
Something hit me on the back of the head. I felt a pain and then...nothing. Total blackness...

I came to, very groggy. "Oh, aaahhhh" was all I could stammer out of my mouth.
I opened my eyes. I was in a very white room on a bed. My head was splitting. "Remind me not to drink that much ambrosia next time," I joked out loud.
A person was there. "You're lucky, Colonel. If you hadn't taken at least one more step, that beam would have crushed you and you might not be here right now."
"Uhhhh, beam? Where am I? What happened?" was all I could get out.
"Well, as best we can surmise. When you came out of the turbolift, a metal girder above cracked and came down right on top of you. As i said, you're very luck to be alive. The girder just glanced by your head and hit you on the back of the neck knocking you forward and unconscious. Some workers found you and quickly brought you to the Med Lab."
"Med lab?" I asked.
"Yes. You were just down the corridor. The technicians have already gotten to work on the beam trying to find out what stresses caused it to fall."
"Where am I?" I asked again.
The man looked a bit puzzled. "In Med Lab. You're O-K, now. Just a bad bump but I strongly urge you to stay until you feel a bit better and the swelling goes down. You took a nasty hit."
"Med Lab? What Med Lab?" I asked. For the life of me this place did not look familiar.
The med tech furrowed his brow. "The Med Lab. You know, onboard the Callisto."
I heard the name. But strangely, I couldn't place it in my mind. "What's the Callisto?" I asked.

Brie walked towards the smoking area, trying to figure out what she was going to say to Abby. She was happy, thrilled, it felt so good that Amy finally knew the truth. "Major, over this way," a medtech called. Brie followed, even though it was in the other direction. "Just a centon, he needs his rest, and is insisting that he gives Commander Sheba his report. You warriors are all so stubborn..."
The medtech walked away and Brie took a couple of confused steps forward. Suddenly she saw him. "Skyler!" she exclaimed, rushing to his bedside. "You're alive!"

There was a doctor checking on Brik as Brie entered the area. "How are they?" Brie asked him.
"They need to allow themselves to recuperate," the doctor said, not really answering the question. "You can stay only a few microns, Major, only one visitor at a time and they've requested to talk to Commander Sheba."
"Okay," Brie replied. She pulled up a chair next to Skyler and sat down.
"Major," Logan started slowly, "the computer core..."
"It arrived in good working order," Brie replied. "The mission was a success. They're working to decode the information, a long and tedious project." She moved closer to Skyler. She didn't want anyone else to hear what she was about to say. "Skyler, my friend, I want you to hear this from me. That story I made up about Amy on the Agro Ship? It's true. She really is my daughter."
"Time's up, Major," the doctor said before Skyler had a chance to say anything.
Brie stood up and raised her voice so that Logan and Brik could hear as well. "A quick warning. Be very careful what you say about Captain Lazant." Knowing that she shouldn't say any more without jeopardizing any investigation, Brie walked away. "I have, um, an, um, appointment off-ship later, but I'll be back to see you tomorrow." With that, she left.

Even while sleeping, Brik was somehow aware that his now dreamless and void sleeping was much better than the large beast of a nightmare that he'd just completed.
The black before his eyes slowly changed to a medium-gray that eventually gave way to colors and shapes that morphed into early being awake.
There was fairly pretty woman dressed as a Warrior that he didn't immediately recognize. Wait...ok, that must be Brie...of course it was but he hadn't seen her in person in quite some time. Oh, and he was just wakng from a wound-induced unconsciousness and that never helped with facial recognition..
Then, out of nowhere, she speaks gibberish. "A quick warning. Be very careful what you say about Captain Lazant."
He figured that Logan or Skyler would explain... "LOGAN!!! SKYLER!!!" he screamed as he sat bolt upright, his mass knocking over a med-tech, and started looking for his squadmates.
He was truly awake now.

"A quick warning. Be very careful what you say about Captain Lazant."
Logan was still trying to process Brie's statement when Brik sat up on his biobed and screamed "Logan!! Skyler!!"
Her head whipped around to see her friend looking around the Medlab and only relaxing slightly once he had spotted Skyler and Logan in the beds beside him.
Skyler had a strange look on his face as his eyes followed Brie out of the room. His mouth was set in a grim line as if he was holding back a question.
Logan leaned up to look across him at Brik as the medtech he had barreled over in his haste to sit up was picking herself up off the floor. Brik was mumbling a hurried apology as he looked at Logan in confusion.
"Alright?" Logan asked Brik.
"Yeah...yeah," he replied. "You? That was some landing."
"Sorry I missed it," Logan shrugged as she pondered Brie's parting words.
"What...?" Brik started to ask.
Logan knew that he was referring to the cryptic comment the Major had left them with. She shook her head. "No clue. But if Brie said it, she had a good reason. We'll talk about it later." Logan was suddenly aware of Lt. Baris eyeing her with curiousity. Most of the staff of the Medlab had heard the comment and until she was sure what was going on, prudence was the best course of action.
One thing was for sure. Lazant wasn't fond of Skyler...or any of them, for that matter. His eyes had been cold and hard as he had measured everyone on the team up on the ride over to the Baseship. Logan had a suspicion that if there was trouble to start, it would come from Lazant.
"Lt. Baris, can you tell us the status of the others who made it back on the Dropships?"
Baris picked up a pad and read for a micron before answering. Skyler was paying close attention to him as he responded.
"There were many injuries.." he started.
"The rest of Gold?" Skyler prompted.
"Lt.s Ike and Wraith checked out fine. Minor bruises."
A collective sigh went down the row, starting at Logan's bed and ending at Brik's.
"Captain Lazant...extensive injuries. He is stable, but..."
"What's wrong with him?" Skyler asked, concern evident on his face. It was no secret that Lazant and Skyler often bumped heads, but Skyler would be the last person to wish an injury on a fellow Warrior.
"His eyes. He took a blast to the face. He can't see." Baris talked low, so only Skyler, Logan and Brik could hear. He didn't want to give too much information, but there was no note that Lazant's condition was classified.
"Holy frack," Logan breathed. She didn't like Lazant either, but knew two things immediately. She wouldn't wish an injury like that on anyone. And this might mean trouble for Skyler. She really couldn't put it past Lazant to blame Skyler for this. Looking at Skyler, she knew he was thinking the same thing.
Anyone using logic would realize that risk of injury was part of any mission, but Lazant was arrogant and hotheaded. Not a good match for a logical argument.
Baris listed several more names and minor injuries to Skyler, but they were unfamilar names to her. Until...
Hush spoke up from the other side of the room. "Janey? Ally?"
Logan met his eyes and saw his concern for his friends. She looked at Baris as he checked the list.
"Lt. Janey is critical. I don't have all the details, but her internal injuries were extensive."
Hush's eyes clouded for a micron as he took in the news and Logan felt for him. She looked at Baris who had gotten quiet. "And Ally?" she asked.
"I'm sorry, but her condition is listed as "Locked down." I can't tell you anything. Family only." His eyes told Logan he really meant it.
Logan didn't know what to say or where to look. Hush was laying there expressionless. Skyler lowered his head and Brik...Oh Lords. Brik! He was sitting up still, the medtech he had bowled over having given up on getting the big man to lay down again. His eyes were open, looking at Baris, but Logan wasn't sure he had heard a word. He seemed to be somewhere else. She started to say something to him, but thought better of it.
Baris' voice broke the silence. "The other member of Bronze is fine."
Logan tore her gaze from Brik to look at the Lt. in confusion. Hush had sat up a little, resting on his elbow, his face mirroring curiousity as well. "What other member?" Skyler asked.
"A Lt. Bulk-Up." Baris said.
"WHAT?" came out of four mouths at once, with varying degrees of emotion.
Hush seemed thoroughly bewildered. Skyler and Brik had the same response. their hands were in fists. Logan tried to get out of her bed, but Baris, completely flummoxed by their reactions, held out a hand to stop her. "Please, Lt. Your leg."
"Frack my leg. Where is he?" Logan's face was red. The last any of them had seen of Bulk-Up, he had defied orders and charged down a dark corridor on his own on the Baseship. No one had seen him since. Logan had images of him hiding in the corridor until he saw the Dropships getting ready to leave. He was full of talk, but Logan had a suspicion that his attitude was a cover for cowardice. Not to mention the fact, that he could have jeopardized the mission by being so foolish. Or gotten them all killed. These were things Logan didn't take lightly.
"Logan." Skyler's tone was a reassuring presence and she sat back down.
Hush seemed confused. "What happened to him?"
Baris had regained his composure from the sudden outbursts and looked at Hush. "I'm not sure. But he's been checked out. He has been checking on Lt. Ally's status ever since they came back on the Dropship together."
Logan looked at Hush and opened her mouth to speak, but closed it again. She repeated this process with first Skyler and then Brik. For the first time in a long time, Logan was speechless.

Another medtech came in with few charts, and by the look of him he hadn't slept in quite a while. "I treated an Ally on the dropship" he said. "Did I hear you guys mention Bulk-up?"
Hush nodded. "Yeah, you know of him?"
"Who could forget him. He was on the same drop ship coming back from the basestar" the tech said. "Big guy. He helped me keep a warrior alive. She'd never have made it without his help. That was the Ally I treated."
Hush closed his eyes at the mention of Ally's name, as if any information on her would help keep her alive. "What did Bulk-up do?" Hush asked.
"Gave her his blood" the tech replied. "He knew her type, and believe me she needed it. Some sort of infection she picked up. I've never seen anything li--"
Baris cleared his throat. "Yeah" he interrupted loudly, "thing is, that patient's information is locked down...."
The tech froze up, turning white. "Oh. Sorry, I didn't know."
"But Bulk-up was fine" Hush asked.
The tech nodded. "Scrapes, singed around the edges, looked like he'd gone through hades itself, but then they all looked that way. But yeah, he'll live, I'm sure...."

The med tech sort of chuckled to himself. "Heh, you're such a kidder, Colonel."
I wasn't laughing. "No, really, where am I?" I replied. Something just didn't add up. It looked sort of familiar but it didn't. Sort of like deja vu.
"Colonel. You're in the Med Lab aboard the Battlestar Callisto. Do you remember getting hit on the head?"
I thought. The searing pain in my neck brought that back fast. "I feel the pain, so I guess I do. But , what am I doing here?" I asked.
The medtech was not sure how to respond. "Well, you got hit and the warriors brought you in the Med Lab."
"I can guess that part, I mean what am I doing onboard a battlestar?" I asked.
The medtech was now at wit's end. "Colonel, what do you mean? You're Colonel Charybdis, second in command of the Callisto!"
I looked down at myself. I was wearing a blue bridge uniform alright and on my collar were my silver rank pins indicating I was indeed a Colonel in the Colonial Military. It just didn't make sense. What was happening? Was I dreaming?
I shook my head. "From my history scans I remember...there is no Battlestar Callisto. Who is the commander?"
The medtech was looking downright worried. He stammered..."Commander Sheba. She's been our commander ever since the Callisto found the fleet around 8 yahrens ago."
"Fleet? What fleet?" I asked. Things just weren't adding up...

The medtech that Baris had stopped from giving any more information on Ally's condition hurried across the room, shuffling papers and looking embarrassed. He entered a far door on the right and disappeared from view.
Logan looked across the foot of her bed to where Hush was still propped up on one arm, lost in thought. Their eyes met. "Are you alright?" she asked.
His eyes focused on her. He didn't say anything at first. She could tell that he was battling to keep his cool, hold it together. For some reason she read all this in his eyes. She doubted whether anyone else in the room could tell he was inwardly struggling to regain his composure, but Logan had made a habit over the yahrens to read what people didn't want to tell. She had practiced it herself for a long time, ever since losing her sister.
Ally... She looked so much like Kellie, even Skyler had been blown away by the resemblance. And now, she might not make it either. Locked down...
"Hush...I'm sorry. Weasel, Ally, Janey. I-I know Janey and Ally have true Warrior determination. They'll fight," she didn't know what else to say to him. Bronze Squadron had outdone themselves on this mission, proving their worth and equality. She tried to relay that to Hush as she looked at him.
Hush nodded as if in understanding.
Logan couldn't help but remember her connection with Hush on the Dropship on the way to the Baseship. That seemed like a lifetime ago. There had been something in his quiet demeanor, his lack of bravado that was compelling and reassuring to her. She wondered now if it was still there or if she had been imagining it. She knew that she was very different from Hush. Loud, opiniated, hot-tempered...but she felt that there were similarities between them. Their honor to their Squadrons and the Fleet, loyalty, fierce determination and resolve. Maybe it was all in my head...the heat of a coming battle making me see things that weren't there...
And now, sitting in Medlab with the fates of his friends in the balance, how could she presume to sit here and daydream about a fantasy.
"Bulk-Up gave her blood..."
It was Brik's voice that broke into her reverie. Hush and Logan both looked at him as he sat there, shaking his head.
Logan glanced at Hush and attempted a smile,"Maybe he isn't as bad as I first thought."
But, in the back of her mind, Logan was remembering Ally with a bruised eye, flinching at a sudden movement from Bulk-Up after the Pre-Mission briefing. This doesn't add up. It doesn't add up at all.
She wasn't aware that she was frowning or that Hush was watching her closely.

Hush was looking at Logan but his mind was on something more distant. "You guys have no clue what Bulk-up is like" he said flatly. "What kind of guy he is..." He said nothing further about it, for it only served to remind him that no matter what he felt about Logan or the others, they were still outsiders to Bronze just as he was to Gold. Storming that basestar they were all humans fighting to survive, but now inevitably things would go back to the way they were. That was just being human too, he figured, for better or worse.
He fixed his stare on Logan, then Brik, then Skyler. But just the effort of staring seemed to drain him, and he looked away with a deep sigh, his mind on Janey and Ally, and the loss of Weasel.
It wasn't worth it, he kept thinking over and over. Just Weasel was bad enough, but Ally was a great person Hush had come to know, and he and Janey had bonded like never before during their ordeal on the basestar. If he survived and she didn't...
He tried not to think that way, but he'd seen Janey's injuries. And Ally, a warrior with locked down information was bad, real bad. He thought back to the card game they'd had going before the briefing, how they all had been so alive, pumped and gearing up for some actual action, and their biggest problem was Bulk-up's outburst....
Weasel, Ally, Janey...
Without those three it would never be the same. He'd never thought it possible, but being in Bronze could actually get worse.
