Brie was about to try to contact JustinB when she realized that she didn't have her personal comm unit on her. That was strange, she almost always carried it with her, and she rarely lost anything. As she began to retrace her steps she received a message on her computer. It was from JustinB. Just the thought of him made a smile cross her face, even if he was canceling their lunch. She sent a quick reply:
JustinB, don't worry it about it, I was about to cancel as well. I'm seeing the Commander in two centars, can you meet me outside the bridge a couple of centons before that?
And I can't wait to hear your idea.
See you then Brie
A movement near her sofa caught Brie's eye. It was BrieCora, and she was happily playing with something. Something shiny. Brie went over and took her comm from the animal, scratching her behind her ear as she did so. "You little troublemaker," she said playfully. Brie checked her comm, it wasn't damaged but somehow the kitten had managed to turn it off. She took a piece of paper, crumpled it up, and threw it to BrieCora. "Here, play with this instead." The kitten gleefully chased it across the floor before jumping on top of it.
"Amy," Brie called, opening the bedroom door, "I have to run out. I've cleaned out the top two drawers and half the closet for you, help yourself. I'll see you later." Patting the kitten on the top of the head one more time, Brie left to go see Skyler. She was dreading it.

Logan exited Brie's office and turned in the general direction of Alpha Bay. She had fully intended on going to see Skyler in Med Lab after speaking with Brie. She was glad now that her first instinct of seeking out the Major's opinion had been the correct one. She really wanted to warn Skyler about what was happening, but also knew better than to disobey a direct order from Brie.
And besides, Brie would let Skyler know why his squadron mates weren't visiting him. He would know they were doing what was best for the Squadron and for their friend.
As she walked, Logan took out her personal comm and keyed a message to Brik and the other members of Gold who had been on the mission. She stopped and bit her lip. She considered sending a message to Hush as well, but the Major had said Gold Squadron not all the teams on the mission. Even though he had been a part of their team, he wasn't in Gold and Logan wanted to avoid any kind of trouble. With Hush's current attitude he might see her message as some sort of Gold Squadron conspiracy.
On Major Brie's orders, no member of Gold Suadron is currently allowed to visit Captain Skyler in Med Lab.
Lt. Logan
She put the comm away and went over what Brie had told her. She still couldn't believe that anyone would think Skyler would put someone, anyone, even the arrogant Lazant, in harm's way to save his own skin. Not with Skyler's record of service. The fact that Skyler had been trying to buy time to get the computer data off that Base ship should count for something.
And she didn't need to be reminded of Skyler's temper. She had been there when he'd gone ballistic when Brie had been put on trial and almost destroyed his office. If Brik hadn't taken him out at the knees and Logan been blocking the door, the repair crews would have had to replace a lot more than a chair. But that had been a personal crisis, not a mission. She had never seen him lose it on a mission, even when faced with disruptive hot shots who were too eager to prove themselves. Like Bulk-Up. If anyone should be brought up on charges it had to be him, jeopardizing the mission by running off on his own.
She knew that the members of Gold Squadron who had been on the mission would support Skyler and his decisions in the field. But something was nagging her and it wasn't Lazant.
Bronze. They had been hit hard. Hush was bitter. And she had no idea where Bulk-Up was. She had heard he had made it back after all, but she hadn't seen him. And she knew Brik hadn't either. If he had, he would be in the brig by now. Frack, I might end up in the brig if I see him first.
Logan strode into Alpha Bay to a whirlwind of activity. It seemed that pilots from many squadrons were using the time during the jump to run systems checks on their Vipers.
Now to find my new wingman.

As she was about to enter Skyler's room Brie was stopped. "Sorry, Major," the man said to her. "No one is allowed to mention the current investigation to Captain Skyler."
Brie looked the man up and down. His insignia told her that he was a lieutenant and from the Galactica. She assumed that he was part of the team that had shuttled over before the jump. They've brought their own security detail, not a good sign she thought to herself. She cleared her throat. “Lieutenant, if you had done your job correctly and checked your files you would know that I had nothing to do with the baseship mission. I wasn’t even allowed to read the files until I was cleared medically. And I also know that I’m not allowed to talk about a current investigation with someone who hasn’t yet been interrogated. So no, I’m not going to mention anything about it to Captain Skyler.”
As Brie took a step forward the lieutenant stepped in front of her. “Then you wouldn’t mind my being there during your visit.”
“Actually, I would,” Brie said defiantly. “I have some sensitive squadron business to discuss with my Second in Command, and your security clearance just won’t cut it. If you would like to contact Commander Sheba about a quickie promotion then be my guest, otherwise, get out of my way. That’s an order, Lieutenant.”
The man waited for several microns, then moved out of the way. "Okay," he said at last. "But I intend to file a full report, and if I find out that you warned Captain Skyler, you'll be court-martialed, Major. Again."
Brie shook her head. "Check my file, I never was court-martialed. It was a set-up. And you're not the only one who will be filing a report." She entered Skyler's room and smiled. "Hey, Captain. Long time no see."

The grin on Skyler's face was going to make everything so much more difficult. "How was your appointment?" he asked.
"My appointment?" Brie had to think for a micron. She then remembered that she had told Skyler that she wouldn't be around the previous evening because she had an appointment off-ship. Technically it was true, and it had been easier than telling him that she had a date with JustinB. "Oh, fine. Nothing for you to concern yourself with." Brie grabbed a chair and moved it up close. She was sure that the lieutenant from the Galactica would have his ear pressed up against the door. "So how are you feeling? They tell me that you're going to be sprung soon, so you can start earning your keep again."
"I hope so," Skyler replied. "I'm fine, there's no reason for me to be here. How are Logan and Brik? No one has told me anything."
"No one will be telling you anything, I've ordered everyone to stay away," Brie informed him. "Logan is back on duty, I've assigned her a new wing and they should be meeting just about now. Brik is on light duty, he needs to heal fully himself. So don't expect them or anyone else to be dropping by for a while."
Skyler stared at Brie for a micron. "You look different. Happier than I've seen you in a long time."
"I am happy," Brie replied. "I told you a little bit last time I dropped by, but now, as a trusted friend, I want you to know the whole story." Brie took a deep breath. There were two reasons for her happiness, one of them would break Skyler's heart. "Amy is my biological daughter. I was raped when I was 17, and I found out on my 18th novayahren that I was pregnant. The short version is that I was talked out of keeping my baby, and gave her up for adoption to Abby and Elmer on the Agro Ship. I promised Elmer that I would take this secret to the grave, in fact the only person I ever told was Turner. Until Pierce's mutiny. When the workers attacked me they said I never cared about Amy. Frack, at that time I was still supposed to be in the brig, convicted of negligence towards her! I could understand what they were thinking. I never meant to tell them, but it was the only thing that I could think of to get them to listen to me. It worked. After that I started to deny it again but with Elmer's death Abby no longer saw any reason to keep the truth from her and told her. Without letting me know. Then for some reason I told Amy as well. We fought it out and then talked it out and finally decided that we wanted to give it a try. From the moment she stepped foot on the Callisto she and I have felt a connection, and now she knows why. She's staying with me for a while. We're going to make things official, I have an appointment with Commander Sheba in a couple of centars and I want to have my file changed, have me listed as Amy’s birth mother. And we're eventually going to tell everyone, but we want to talk to Abby first. Unfortunately Abby had to return to the Agro Ship so we have to put things off until either she returns here or we can shuttle over there. But I'm just so excited about all of this. After all these yahrens, I finally have my daughter back."

For a centar Zane and myself went over all the maintenance records of the vipers Franklyn was responsible for. Lucky for the pilots of those vipers, it was only recent that he was sloppy with his work. After conferring with Zane we decided once Franklyn had been dealt with he would be shipped of the Callisto.
Leaving the maintenance behind, I decided to have some lunch. I had received a message from Brie and she was fine with the cancellation since she was about to do the same.
Finding a seat in the corner I went up and got a meal and a drink and sat down.

Persephone watched the flight crew, mechanics, and engineers at work. Alpha Bay was buzzing with activity. Including some other pilots that came and went inspecting their vipers. She had a passing thought. Wonder what Triton's doing right now?
Meanwhile...Triton scrubbed turbo flushes until they sparkled. What Hades Hole did I fall into?, he asked himself.
Back in Alpha Bay, every now and then, Persephone watched Lieutenant Lysander, wherever he was in her line of sight, as he wandered about on his patrol rounds in the Launch Bay. She waited for Lieutenant Logan to arrive.
A song came into her head, and she hummed to herself to pass the time.
She ran the things through her head what she would do on her viper check. Pulling out again from her pocket, the electronic key Chiron gave her, the silver gleam of it reflected the Bay's lighting.
She looked up, and saw the sentry about to leave the Bay, he paused and saw her, giving a quick wave that almost looked like a funny salute. Giving a wave back in courtesy, she smiled at Lysander.
She's smiling at me, Lysander thought happily. I'd better give one back...don't look stupid Lysan, he prompted himself.
What a sweet guy, Persephone further mused.
He disappaered through the door.
Barely a micron after, the awaited Lieutenant Logan arrived. Persphone quickly stood to attention, straightening her tunic and insignia.

Silence. It was the last reaction that Brie had expected from Skyler. She really thought that he would be happy for her, but his silence spoke volumes. If Skyler, the one person that she had always felt she could count on, didn't know how to react, what would the rest of Gold Squadron think? "I'm sorry that I've lied, but this is all something that I made peace with yahrens ago. I never thought of Amy as my daughter until she asked me to."

Logan spotted her new Wingman almost as soon a she entered the Bay.
The techs were busy, doublechecking systems and cursing under their breath at the shape some of the ships were in. She thought she heard a few colorful adjectives used to describe some of these 'hotshot' pilots and how they had no respect for the machinery that separated them from the Void.
She nodded and exchanged greetings with a few pilots as she walked towards her Viper. There was a girl standing near it, beside another Viper, holding something shiny in her hand and looking around uncertainly. This has to be Persephone. By the Lords, they get younger everyday.
The Ensign saw Logan walk up and stood at attention. "At ease, Ensign." She had to bite back the smile that was forming. She remembered far too well how intimidating it could be to be paired with an established Officer. And how exciting it was to finally be able to prove yourself.
Logan extended her hand and tried to look reassuring. "Good to meet you, Persephone."
The Ensign shook her hand and said, "Lt." by way of reply.
"Logan, please. You don't have to worry about protocol unless we're in the cockpits of these birds. Or in front of the Senior Staff."
Logan looked over at her Viper, where a tech was busy recalibrating the engines. She ran her hand over her hair and adjusted the leather strip holding it in place. Taking off her uniform jacket and laying it on a nearby maintenance cart, she turned back to Persephone. "Have they finished the systems check on your Viper yet? We can go through the checklist if you like. Or we can get Mitch over there to do it. He turns really pink around the ears when you give him a hard time." She pointed in the direction of the tech busy at work going over her Viper.
Logan waited for Persephone to respond and hoped her demeanor hadn't taken the girl off guard. She'd seen some pilots try to lord it over their new wingmen, but had never understood their rationale. This person was going to be who you relied on in a crisis situation. By starting off the relationship as an adversary, many pilots ended up with partners who resented them. It made no sense to Logan. That didn't mean that if the young Ensign made a serious mistake, Logan wouldn't light into her like the fires of Hades, but a partner you could count on when the felgercarb hit the fan was the key to survival in most cases.
Logan took her duties as a Warrior very seriously. She had to. They all had to. It was how they survived. She was proud to be a Colonial Warrior. That's why the bitter taste in her mouth at the implied accusations against Skyler had infuriated her. She couldn't wait to see Brik after his 'questioning' session. If he didn't tear the ship apart first in his disbelief. She was sure he was being asked the same things about Skyler and Lazant.
She knew she couldn't see Skyler right now and that burned her. She wanted to warn him about Flynt. About Lazant. But she had been given a direct order by Major Brie and she wouldn't break her word.
So instead, she turned her attention to the Vipers and her new Wingman, wondering what was going through the Ensign's mind at the micron.

Skyler sat there in disbelief. How could he of have missed it. The subtitle ways they both did things, the hair, ok, so Brie's was red and Amy's more blond, but the styling, the eyes, how could he of have missed that. He had no closer friend than Brie in the entire Fleet, not even Zeke, who he thought of as a father. He should of have seen it without being told. Maybe he had seen it, but his feelings for Brie blinded him those facts. Amy was Brie’s daughter…. Rape……. RAPED…! What and who the frack….. Then Brie started to talk again and brought Skyler’s thoughts back to the moment. Fracking pain meds, he couldn’t keep his mind centered on any thing for long with out considerable effort. Once Brie left the room, he was going to pull that line out.
"I'm sorry that I've lied, but this is all something that I made peace with yahrens ago. I never thought of Amy as my daughter until she asked me to."
‘Sorry’, that one word cut him… almost as bad as the word rape…
“Brie, you have nothing to be sorry for, at all. I am glad you told me. I wish you would have told me before now, but I understand you have your reasons, and I respect that. I respect you, and trust your judgment.” Skyler looked at her for a few microns and took her hand. “I will always be here for you Brie, no matter what, that’s my promise to you.”

A pang of guilt coursed through Brie as Skyler took her hand, but she didn't pull it away. Frack, this was hard! "I will always be here for you Brie, no matter what, that's my promise to you."
"I know that," Brie replied. "And there's something I need you to do for me."
"Anything," Skyler replied.
Brie leaned closer. "If anyone asks you any questions...about anything, answer slowly and honestly. Take a deep breath, and keep your temper. No matter what."
"What are you talking about?" Skyler wanted to know.
"Just promise me that you'll do it," Brie pleaded. "For me." She glanced at her chrono and stood up, taking back her hand. "I have to go. Oh, and also promise me that you won't take those tubes out of your arm. I know you, my friend. Do whatever the medical staff tells you to do. I need you back on duty. I'll see you soon."
