Its a decent show, if nothing else is on but I'm not all that into it myself. I do like the Wraith. I think they are a good nemesis. Shame the main cast isn't as engaging.
The thing I love about SG-1 is the chemistry between the characters. They are a more cohesive unit. The Atlantis team seems too one-dimensional. I do like Mackay because he is self-absorbed and a jerk a lot, but interesting and comical too. Weir gets on my nerves. She's too uptight. And Sheppard is bland .
I'm not saying its all bad, but not as good as SG-1 to me. And as much as I adore Ben Browder, SG-1 isn't the same without the original four as teammates. Different chemistry, not bad, but Jack's personality added another element to the group that I miss.

In my opinion, Atlantis is not a good show. I can count on one hand the number of episodes I have seen start to finish. I usually go to a friends house for our little Stargate Night, and 15 centons into Atlantis, we have given up on them and gone to plot and scheme in another room. We did do the Mystery Science Theater 3000 gig on one episode, with the TV muted we added our own dialog, and have to admit, we thought it to be one of the better ones we saw.. ;D
I agree with Lisa, the characters do not inspire me to watch. Most of the time they annoy me with how stupid they can be. Don't even get me started on Weir. I like the Blonde Weir from the SG-1 episodes, and I think would watch the show if she were still there, but the Brunette Weir gets on my nerves, funny how one character can bother you so bad you don't watch an entire show..... I am glad people like the show, and for them I hope it has the staying power to give them a great show to watch for many yarhen.

Okay, another question. I watched the first episode. Does it get any better? I absolutely HATED it. All the fun of SG-1 was missing (even Jack and Daniel were boring) and it was too gory. It seemed to me that they wanted to try to freak people out as much as possible. After it was over my daughter asked me if we had to watch the next one, or if we could go back to watching SG-1. We went back, we were partway through Season 2, which is a great season.

If you didn't like the first show because the humor, fun and camraderie of SG-1 was missing, you're probably going to feel much the same with the rest of it. IMO, the characters just never get to the point where I give two credits about them.
The best character from last season and this season's season premiere is Michael (you'll remember him as Trip Tucker form Enterprise). Spoilers to follow..I think he is the most well-developed and sympathetic character on Atlantis and he's a Wraith that they tried to 'cure.'
That was the best episode from last season to me, when he wakes up thinking he's human and his response when he finds out what they have done to him. I know he's the enemy, but seriously, genetic experimentation in the vein of the Nazis? I'm rooting for the Wraith at this point.

Okay, this doesn't totally fit the topic, but I thought this was the best place to share it. Tony Amendola, aka Master Bra'tac, was on today's General Hospital! He will be on it again Monday. He's playing a mob boss. My guess is that the character will end up dead.
