Just a friendly reminder that you need to know what is going on before you post. The easiest way to do this is to read what has already been written! We’ve had some continuity problems lately, things like NPCs being in two places at once or orders being messed up that could have been avoided by even glancing over other posts. I realize that some people don’t have as much time to devote to the RPG as others, and I’m certainly not saying that you should memorize every word. But being familiar with what is going on is the best way to find things to add, and to make the game fun for everyone.
If you’re not sure what’s happening or where someone is supposed to be, ask. I’ve written more summaries for people than I can count, and others here have done that as well. It makes for a better overall story.
And a round of applause to everyone. We’ve had a lot of people posting lately, making for a truly wonderful story. Well done, my friends!
Thanks, Brie

Hey Firestar! It depends on which storyline you are wanting to continue reading as to which string it is posted under. Confusing, I know! If you can tell us the characters, we can probably help you out with which string to read. Then again, you might have hit a story line which is "complete" up to now. We are still writing! Hope you can join in soon as well.
Peace,
Kat

It was the one where it went from 19 to 23 I think? The old story lines. As to joing in I would like that but may wait until the new year when I may have more time. I still trying to get a handle on the story line.

Ooo, that's a tough one. That might be a section where we are missing some posts. We lost quite a few because of message board problems, changing sites and such. But, more than likely, it's just miss-numbered. If you notice the board now, it jumps from 28 to 36, I think. All the posts are there, but the chapters weren't broken down. We just kept on writing and now they have to be split up.
My suggestion to you is, just keep reading the individual strings on the message board as they are now. That way you will know what is currently going on and you can pick up your character from there.
I'm working on archiving the posts, but I was MIA for several months so I have a timeline problem. Personally, I've been waiting to see how Lucian breaks down the chapters before I do any more work on it to keep the archives and the board on the same page, so to speak.
Do you have anything in mind for your character? Mine is a Viper pilot plus a historian, but I'm just getting Astraea back to work. She has been in Cylon hands for yahrens!
Looking forward to seeing you posting on the RPG. Just remember to have fun!
Peace,
Kat

Thank you. I just did not wish to cause a problem or seem rude. Also how do you request a character on this board? On the ones I ussually play we have specifice rules and protochools. Just so I dont step in it as it were. Lisa

Firestar,
We've always allowed each of our writers to create a backstory for his or her character that fits into the general nature of the original Battlestar Galactica series and expresses his or her own individuality. This has generally worked well, and we've had some very creative stories as a result. If you have questions or concerns about your character's background, you may want to run it by your Squadron Leader (Major Brie for Gold or Major JustinB for Black) or Colonel Charybdis. Once you get it done, you may want to post it in the Miscellaneous Discussion/Information Board so everyone can learn more about your character. I believe we have a number of previous background posts in there somewhere....

Posting a brief background for your character is a great idea to start you off. I didn't have any solid ideas for Astraea until after I wrote mine. (I think it's still posted on here.)
Once I thought about where my character had been and what she had gone through, it made developing her a little easier. Of course, now that she is back from living with the Cylons, she has transformed from a door mouse into Mighty Mouse. lol I'm going to have fun delving into her psyche.
The protocol here is pretty lax. Just some basic rules about not using the original characters out of context...like you can't be Apollo's lover/love child. We want to maintain the integrity of the originals while developing our own.
Keep in mind that we're writing about the Callisto, not the Galactica. Since we're in the fleet together, we get to visit the Galactica from time to time, but most of the story takes place on/with the Callisto.
You can NOT kill another member's character. Believe it or not, we actually had that happen a few years back. Someone got angry and used their character to walk in and shoot another character in the head. Members were just told to ignore that post, but sometimes it can be written off as a dream or such.
You can do pretty much what you want with your character, but not with another player's character. If you're writing a scene with another member, give the other member time to respond. Keep in mind that not everyone checks the boards daily and even fewer write on a regular basis. It's always good to privately contact the person you're writing with to get a feel for where the storyline is going.
Your character can have a life "outside" of being a pilot or whatever. That's why I made Astraea a historian so that I would have something to play with even when there isn't a mission going on. Right now, I'm just trying to get her established and having a pretty good time doing it too.
Above all, keep in mind what is happening on the Callisto. You may be writing a scene about working out in the gym when there is an alert. Have your character respond to that alert. You can always go back and finish up what you were writing later.
If you want to get involved with an ongoing storyline, simply contact the person writing it! Brie had a great storyline going that everyone wanted to get involved in...myself included! I got in touch with Brie and she gave me a couple of IFB reports to deliver. I couldn't do much with Astraea since she was in confinement at the time, but it was fun to play a small part in it.
Any time you join in a storyline, be sure to check with the originator. He/she may have plans on what develops and you don't want to mess that up. But, by contacting them, they may have a specific role for you to play and you can join in the fun.
BTW, you can contact anyone on this list by clicking on their name and then there's a button to send a private message or you can simply use this portion of the message board to address everyone.
Any MAJOR storyline has to get command approval. Core Command consists of Colonel Charybdis and the two squadron leaders, in this case Majors Brie and JustinB. They arrange the major events and then the rest of us join in. Since Astraea isn't flying yet, I've got her doing other things, but the primary story building is with the Cylons. Hopefully, I'll be able to get in on that, but I want to keep writing regardless.
A little piece of advice, don't write too much in advance. When you're working with other members, they WILL throw you a curve ball from time to time and you don't want to have to do a major rewrite. Personally, I've already gotten a few posts ready, but it's while Astraea is on her own. When I was posting with Charybdis, each post was written on the spot. It's good to plan ahead and never let a moment of inspiration pass by (in other words, WRITE), just remember that things to come up in a multi-player game that you don't expect.
But, it sounds like you've played these sorts of games before so you should have some idea of the pitfalls and advantages. Just remember that you can always ASK if you're not sure and there are plenty of people here who are willing to offer suggestions if you need any. Brie and Amy were a big help to me when I was getting started. It's nice having someone to bouce ideas off of and you have a whole board here!
Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you too much. lol
Peace,
Kat

I will think about a character then. Perhaps if I can come up with a reasonable one I will ask to join in the new year.

Firestar,
Check out the thread "Profiles" on the misc. discussion/information board, if you haven't already. There are a bunch of our character backstories there! I look forward to reading yours soon!
