On the Bridge of the Callisto, one of the Tech’s heard Nat’s voice. Others picked up on it and it was soon being broadcast on the speaker system, but in a few moments, as additional Cylons joined the fray, the Vipers winked, one by one, from the display. Only Nat’s ship remained, and his voice, now unneeded by his fellow Warriors, strained to go on, as Raiders around him exploded in a near continuous string:
..........."may stand proud and strong.
To those brave souls, we salute and say,
Thank you, heroes, for your gift this day.
Still some must choose to die another day,
To fight the good fight, but then walk away.
For while some brave souls must give their all,
Others must stand and refuse to fall.
When that choice is made, whatever my fate……”
“Commander, Captain Resonat’s ship appears to have been destroyed,” said Geenie, unsteadily. “Flight Omega Two is…all gone.”
Lieutenant Finky added, “Flight Omega One is still pursuing the Baseship, which will have to slow considerably to launch more ships to chase them!”
Sheba nodded to both and turned to check the damage reports. As she did, several of the Techs started, in low but growing voices, to sing the song Nat had started to recite, but never completed. As it continued, more voices joined in the hymn, and more than a few tears flowed:
"Some heroes choose to bravely give their all,
To fight the good fight but in battle fall
For our friends, family, people, fleet,
Their lives they give for Cylon defeat.
Some Heroes Die! Some Heroes Live!
That we might survive, that we might live.
Some Warriors may choose to die today,
To protect the Fleet, our lives and our way.
For when all else fails, their lives they give
That we might survive, that we might live.
Some Heroes Die! Some Heroes Live!
That we might survive, that we might live.
Some give their lives when odds are long,
That all humankind may stand proud and strong.
To those brave souls, we salute and say,
Thank you, heroes, for your gift this day.
Some Heroes Die! Some Heroes Live!
That we might survive, that we might live.
Still some must choose to die another day,
To fight the good fight, but then walk away.
For while some brave souls must give their all,
Others must stand and refuse to fall.
Some Heroes Die! Some Heroes Live!
That we might survive, that we might live.
When that choice is made, whatever my fate,
To live and fight on, or through death’s dark gate,
Then if die I must, my life I yield,
To protect our way, our fleet to shield.
Some Heroes Die! Some Heroes Live!
That we might survive, that we might live.

After a short trip to check on the status of the landing bays and an even faster trip to check with the engineers working on the engines, I had a hell of a time getting back to the bridge. Smoke had filled many corridors with thick, acrid smells, not to mention the visibility was down to near zero in some.
Holding a small oxygen mask to my face, I braved the smoke and sometimes fire to get back to the bridge. What I saw when I entered blew my mind away!!!
I stopped in my tracks to see almost the entire bridge crew standing and singing an old Colonial song dedicated to fallen heroes!! I had heard it plenty over the yahrens, usually when a comrade's body was committed to the stars, I guess it was appropriate at this time, since so many of our friends were dying at this very moment.
My mind suddenly flashed to Amy. Was she still alive? Where was she? I couldn't think about that now.
I quickly moved over to where Sheba was and gave my report...

BaseShip Four had taken a pounding but with BaseShip Three moving up behind the Callisto, it was not withdrawing as had been hoped. The lower saucer pulsar was firing intermittently, and Captain Swensson was returning fire as well as he could. Auxiliary controls for main pulsar number two had failed after eight shots, but he had made each count. He’d slowed the recharge time for number one, hoping to coax more shots out of the system before it too failed.

The next shot from BaseShip Three had damaged long-range communications. The Callisto was no longer in contact with the fleet, though long-range sensors indicated that a large number of ships were moving up, and would soon be overtaking BaseShip Three. Several Vipers from Omega Flight One appeared to be right behind BaseShip Three, and a few Raiders, having finished off Omega Flight Two, were struggling to catch up.
On the Bridge, Colonel Charybdis had just completed his report when Helmswoman Karia said, “And it's getting worse, Commander. We’re down 30% on engine power. We’ve plotted the jump, but I’m not sure we’ll even get there if they keep hitting us like this.”
“Faith, Karia,” said Sheba. “The Callisto will hold. Keep us moving forward. We have to disable that ship to be able to get the fleet to the jump point.”
“Commander, incoming message from Captain Lucian. Situation looks bad, and he’s about to do something drastic. He said to tell you to hold on to something.”
“What? Get him on the comm, NOW!”
