I need to get off this ship for a while. Looking forward to the mission. Perhaps I could persuade Holodoc to release Najin, he's been in worse predicaments in the cockpit of his Viper. He'll be fine, it's just an agro mission!
* * *
Holodoc2000
Holodoc was trying to get more information about the wype drug & the effects it has on a person that has been exposed to it along with the cure so to speak for it, & trying to figure out who would of druged Stadia the way they had & how it was done. She was going on very little sleep & didn't see any coming length of a sleep period for her any time soon in the near future. Holodoc & Jarrynn both had the patients in Medbay to look after all the time now since it seemed that Doc Bkj wasn't no where to be found these days & Ensign Phoebe hasn't helped enough to relieve any of the pressures off on her or Jarrynn.
During her rounds, Holodoc had noticed that Major Brie was there in Medbay & figured she was there to see about getting Najinn released. Holodoc had very little time as it was to deal with at the moment & just went about her duties when she noticed that Lt Rose had come in for a few minutes & the left after talking with Major Brie for a moment. Holodoc made a mental note to herself to see Rose later on to see if she was alright & let her know that she could come by Medbay anytime to chat if she felt the need to do so. Even though she had her differences with Hawke, she didn't want to lose her newly found friendship with Rose, so she was willing to make an effort to be civil around Hawke at least for Rose's sake.
After Holodoc had finished up her rounds of checking up on the patients, she went over to her desk & noticed the note that Major Brie had left for her before she had left while she was doing her rounds. As she suspected, Major Brie was wanting to see about getting Najinn released from MedLab & placed back on active duty. After thinking things over for awhile & chatting with Jarrynn a little on the matter, they decided to go ahead & release Najinn back onto active duty, but with a couple of conditions attached to his release.
Holodoc walked on over to where Najinn was resting so that she could talk to him some. "Najinn," Holodoc says, "you are being released from MedLab & placed back onto active duty. There are a couple of conditions to this though. First one is that you will need to check in with either me or Jarrynn for a check up the evening before you go out on any mission for the first time & the second condition is you will report back here after your mission is complete so that either Jarrynn or I can check you over to make sure everything is alright. I know you & others might think that the medical staff may be going to extremes at times when it comes to the patients, but we are just making sure that nothing goes wrong during each persons recovery from their injuries." Holodoc walked on out of Najinn's cubicle rather than waiting on him to give her a hard time about the conditions she had placed on his release & going back onto active duty. She was not in the mood for an argument right then, so why stay around waiting for one to start.
Holodoc knew that she had a lot of paperwork that she needed to catch up on since it had been accumulating over the last several cycles since she had been so busy with various things there in MedLab, but she wasn't in the mood to deal with the paperwork at that very moment. Instead she just headed back to her sleeping area there in MedLab so that she could be alone for awhile. She walks into her sleeping area & see's Jadzia, Abby Tabby, & BrieCORA playing with their toys & Holodoc smiles a little as she lays down onto her bed. While laying there on her bed, Holodoc begins to wonder what Anubis was doing & why he hasn't bothered to visit her to see how she was doing or contact her over the commlink to see if she wanted to do something other than spend all of her time in MedLab. Holodoc silently begins to cry wondering what if anything she did wrong when it came to her relationship with Anubis, espicially since he hasn't shown any interest towards her in awhile.

JustinB
After spending a couple of cycles on Bridge Protection Duty, Lt JustinB decided to catch up with Holodoc and Jarrynn. As he approached the Med-Lab, out came Lt Rose looking quite down.
"Hey Rose, how are you?" asked JustinB. "Hi JustinB, I am okay I guess," replied Rose half heartedly.
"I looked for you at the reception. I was hoping to get you a drink for lending me a hand up there on the bridge," JustinB said.
"Yeh, I arrived late and by then you had gone. So I decided to leave. You interested in going to the observation area? Its more private and its heaps better than standing outside to the Med-Lab," Rose said with a bit more enthusiasm.
"That would be great. We could can sit down, relax, take it easy and enjoy the view."
Rose and JustinB strolled towards the observation area. When they arrived they found the most comfortable seats they could. JustinB sensing Rose was down, told a few jokes to make her laugh. She laughed all right, but she still had the look of a person with a few things on her mind.

Captain Urdea had asked Proteus to stop by to check on Hawke as Proteus headed to bed. Urdea had been wondering where Hawke was for some time, having left a message for Hawke to call, but so far, there had been no response. He'd wondered what Hawke had wanted when he'd come by during First Shift.
Proteus was tired, but he was glad to try to help. He buzzed Urdea, saying, "Captain, he's not here, and his bunk hasn't been slept in tonight. Do you want me to keep looking?"
"Proteus, get some rest, but leave a note on his pillow for him to contact me as soon as he gets there."
Urdea knew Hawke could be a very loose cannon. He was hoping that, if that was the case, Hawke would be lobbing his shells in the right direction at the right targets.
Urdea lay down to ponder the situation and rest....

Rose quietly sat there in the observation area with JustinB. She knew that he was doing his best to cheer her up some, but she still had so many things running through her mind. Rose felt like she could trust JustinB, but didn't want to unload all of her worries onto his shoulders. Every so often Rose would look over at JustinB and a few times she caught him looking at her with a look on his face half expecting her to open up some and other times he would be looking out the window some.
"Rose, is there something bothering you that you would like to talk about?," JustinB asks. Rose looks over at JustinB and smiles a little. "JustinB," Rose quietly says, "I will be alright in time. I am just wondering why it seems as though some of the other Warriors are avoiding me. I have a feeling that it has to do with my relationship with Hawke, as to why some of the others are either not talking to me or avoiding me all together. Plus, I wonder if it might be because of the fact that I had decked the training officer when we were going through the extra training during one of the jumps not all that long ago." Rose grew quiet again for a few microns and then quietly says, "I'm sorry JustinB. I don't mean to unload all of my problems onto your shoulders."
* * *
JustinB
For a few microns, JustinB contemplated of what to say to Rose to make her feel better. "I haven't had the pleasure as yet to meet Hawke. If other warriors decide to avoid you, its their loss. I for one count you as a good friend. Hawke is a lucky guy, to have someone as good as you. I just hope, that one day I find someone just as good. In the end, just as long as you are happy that's what counts."
His words brought Rose some comfort,"I can see that we are going to be great friends," she said with a smile, "and I am sure you will meet the right woman."
'Yes, I will find the right woman, but it will have to wait until this Frodarian and food crisis is over' JustinB thought to himself. "By the way Rose, you can chat with me anytime about your problems. Even if it is over a drink. I bet we could talk ourselves into a stupour on a deep space probe."
With a laugh, Rose agrees. "Yeh probaly. Whenever I can, I will introduce you to Hawke. I hope you like him."
"I'm sure I will" he said.
* * *
BSGRose
Rose continued to chat some with JustinB and they were having fun getting to know one another and telling a few jokes along the way. While chatting with JustinB, Rose thought to herself that maybe things were starting to look up some for her, for she was at least starting to make a few friends. Rose felt that she could trust JustinB with a few things that she couldn't tell others. She didn't want to unload everything ontl JustinB though, so she decided to tell him things as they came up, that way she wouldn't scare him off as a friend.
"JustinB," Rose says, "would you be interested in going to the O'Club now for that drink or would you like to do something else for awhile?"
* * *
JustinB
"Lets just go for a walk and stretch our legs," JustinB said, "then we make our way to the O'Club."
"Ok JustinB, sounds like a good idea," said Rose. As they walked, Rose wondered how open JustinB could be. If he would share his experience and trust her with the truth, maybe she could tell him about how she is feeling. "So what were you feeling when your canopy got that crack in it?"
"Well, to start with it gave me a scare. Though once Anubis and Amy's concentration was centred on me, I was angry at myself. I could of blown the mission. Anyway, with a bit of fancy flying, as you know I made it back in one piece."
They walked around the Callisto for another 15 centons or so. By that time they were at the O'Club. "After you," JustinB said, "and I am buying the first round."
They sat at the nearest table and JustinB ordered the drinks. He then toasted, "to friendship."

Brie
The word sent from Lieutenant Holodoc that Najin was being released and returned to full active status was the best that Brie had heard in a long time. The medical staff was overworked and underappreciated, that was for sure. She sent a message back to Holodoc, thanking her and hoping that she would be able to get some rest.
With Najin as an active part of the squadron once again, the mission was actually easy to plan. Four warriors were needed. Brie had spoken briefly with Captain Cain, he'd be leading the mission. Captain Skyler would be going as well. Rounding out the four would be Lt. Amy. Amy was young, but having grown up on the Agro ship this mission was perfect for her. She probably knew more about plants and farming than everyone else on the Callisto combined.
The only thing now was the pairings. Cain, being Gold Squadron SIC, would be in command of the overall mission. It didn't make much sense to have Skyler as Cain's wing, but it didn't really matter because there was no way that Brie would pair Amy and Najin. She finally posted her orders.
GOLD SQUADRON MISSION
The following are the orders for the upcoming Gold Squadron mission. The mission will take place when we enter the next system.
Captain Cain Lt. Amy, Cain's Wing
Captain Skyler Lt. Najin, Skyler's Wing
Captain Cain will be in command of the mission, but Lt. Najin will be in charge of the fact finding. All four warriors are expected to prepare mentally and physically, and will also meet to work out details as many times as neccessary before coming out of the jump. If there are any questions, please see me immediately.
Major Brie Gold Squadron
Brie thought about the sims so long ago, and how Skyler and Najin hadn't taken them seriously. She hadn't trusted them then, but she had the utmost confidence in them now.

To all mission personel: Meet in launch bay 0800 Purpose: Manual check of Viper mech and electronics. Turbo wash and clean. Sorry folks, the final inspection is always done by pilots. Way overdue. We will review mission parameters when Brie has them ready. End Memo

Najinn
Najinn walked down the corridor to his bunk and Gold's Barracks. He felt happy to be back on duty. He looked up the duty roster on the board and found his assignment.
He laughed, oh my god I'm flying wing for Skyler, he thought, oh boy what a turn up.
He turned around and headed back to Medbay for his clearance to fly! He was so relieved to think that he was going to fly again!
Holodoc smiled as he walked into medbay.
"So you listened then!"
"Of course when wouldn't I!!
"Ok, stop there, thats quite enough cheek from you!"
Holodoc went onto to check Najin and clear him to fly!

When I saw the posted orders for the upcoming mission, I returned to the Gold briefing room to find Major Brie there, busy with a mound of papers.
She glanced up for a moment, then back down at her work. Walking up to her, I said, "I just saw the mission posting. I hope I can be more useful than my last mission."
Brie just nodded. It seemed like she was trying to total something up in her head.
After a moment, I asked, "Has Charybdis seen the orders?"
Brie paused long enough to answer. "He should have, I would think."
"Did he say anything?"
Brie just shook her head. I moved away, letting her finish in peace. I was bothered by something. Usually when I'm going on a mission, Charybdis is right there, advising against it, all in a silly attempt to protect me. It had always been like that. Bugged the hades out of me, but it was also very sweet, and I realized that I missed it now.
I had been trying to put some distance between me and my relationships, trying to sort things out mainly about myself. Had I put too much distance? Maybe he had simply not seen the posting, but by the way I had acted since Charybdis's return from the dead, I didn't deserve his love, or anyones for that matter. Maybe he had finally realized this himself?
"Amy", Brie said, interrupting my thoughts, "You'll need to brief the others on what to look for. Your agro experience is extremely valuable on this mission."
I nodded. "I'll work something up right away", I replied. I headed for the door, thinking of Charybdis, and feeling really low. It was for the best, wasn't it? What was best for Charybdis? I was poison for any man, and he was better off without me. But if that was true, then why did I feel like crying? I blinked away the urge as I opened the door to leave.

Capt_Skyler
Skyler checked with Amy on what they needed to learn about plant life. She was in the computer center looking through the data tapes.
"I am gathering some info now. Should have something to so before long."
Skyler smiled "Great, gives me some time to grab Najinn and check his physical abilities. Poor ole boy has been a bed jockey to long. We will be in the Gym area, or out running around the flight deck." Skyler turned to leave, then stopped, looking back over his shoulder with a mischievous look spreading across his face. "I think they still have that Infantry course set up down there. Boy are we going to have fun." Skyler left to grab Najinn and some PT uniforms.
Amy closed her eyes and shuttered at memories of that course. She knew Skyler wouldn't be as bad as that Sgt was, but it was still a Challenge. All she could think was "Poor Najinn"

I find my way to Brie's locker and I'm careful to avoid the vid camera. I know exactly where it's positioned. I override the lock code. I open the locker. I feel like someone's watching me. I look around and don't see anyone. I put an explosive device under the top lip of the door. I put a piece of detination cord in one end and in the other I attatch a small detinator to the other end of the cord. I can't shake this eerie feeling that I'm being very carefully watched. I look around finding nobody. Damn I wish I could shake this feeling. I put a longer piece of cord end into the explosive device. On the other end I put a movement detector. Any movement from the locker door and the device explodes. I make sure everything is in place and I shut the locker door. When Brie opens the door the bomb will explode and kill Brie and anyone within 10 metrons. I do the same to Amy's locker. I look around again and I still can't shake the idea of someone watching me. I quickly leave.
* * *
Brie
Brie was working on the pile of never ending paperwork when she heard a voice in her head. "And Brie, watch your back. Something just doesn't feel right." It was her husband, from the dream about him a while back. She stopped for a moment, wondering why that would suddenly pop into her mind. She shook her head and went back to work.
* * *
Lucian
By the time he’d finished rigging the bombs in Amy’s and Brie’s lockers, it was already well into first shift. He’d slipped from the room, again avoiding the security camera, and headed to a location he’d spotted in advance. There, he had a little privacy and a comm station. He’d quickly sent four coded comm messages marked URGENT/HIGHEST PRIORITY.
Next, since Hawke seriously doubted that the spot he’d met the “Noman’s” gang was actually their headquarters, he did some research. By checking the ship’s database, he quickly determined that the “Noman,” if he was indeed a member of that rugged race, was not one of three known to be aboard the Callisto. All three had been at their posts during the meeting.
Knowing that there were almost countless access tunnels and ducts throughout the ship, Hawke brought up a schematic on the monitor. Then, he highlighted all the tunnels, ducts, and shafts tied to the “chamber” where the meeting had been held. A web of lines crisscrossed the screen. Next, he excluded all of those areas requiring maintenance on a regular basis, and then deleted those leading to highly frequented areas. He saved this configuration, and then identified the compartment where Officer Adrian had died in the explosion some time ago. Running the same procedure as before, he then overlaid the first layout with the second, and highlighted the intersection nodes. Viewing the screen, he quickly typed in a few words and hit the SEND button. He deleted all the work on the screen, and then picked up the printout. He folded it in a small square, placed it deep in a pocket, and headed out to continue his rounds.

Brie
"Major Brie?"
Brie had been walking back to her quarters when she heard a voice. Without even looking she knew from the accent that it was a Frodian. As she turned around, she realized that it was the same young man that had almost attacked her several days earlier. "Yes?"
"Information about the murder you promised," the young man said. "You give us none."
"When I have solid information I will share it with you," Brie promised. "Right now I really don't know what is going on. I don't want to give you a bunch of half-truths and gossip. I'll share with you the facts when I have them."
"Thank you," the man said and went down the corridor.
Brie punched in her code and entered her quarters. Amy wasn't there. Right away Brie knew something was off. There was something sticking out from under her bed. Being a bit of a neat-freak she would never keep anything under her bed. She checked, realized that there were several items there that should have been in her locker. "Weird," she said out loud. She decided that it must be that Amy was playing some kind of trick on her. "Not very funny, Amy."
As she gathered up her things to return them to her locker her intercomm buzzed. Putting her things back down she answered it. "Major Brie here."
"Major, Commander Sheba. I need to see you immediately."
"All right, Commander," Brie replied. "I just need to stop by my locker and..."
"Immediately, Major. That's an order. Commander Sheba out."
Not knowing what else to do with them, Brie shoved her things back under the bed and headed to the bridge, wondering what was so important that she couldn't even make one little stop. It wasn't like they were under attack or anything.
* * *
Brie
Brie and Amy walked away silently from their meeting with Commander Sheba. It appeared that someone was going to try to kill them. Brie had known that there might be some sort of a plot against Amy, but she never thought that she herself was in any danger. It was unbelieveable.
At last Brie broke the silence. "I need to stop at my locker."
"Me too," said Amy. Once again they were quiet.
Still wondering who would be planning her murder, Brie fiddled with her combination. She and Amy opened their lockers at the exact same micron. There was a bright flash, and Brie fell to the floor.
* * *
Charybdis
I had been in the corridor walking to my quarters when suddenly, I heard a loud explosion. It was in the direction of the Gold squadron barracks. I immediately ran to check out what it could have been, but it didn't sound friendly whatever it was.
I just hoped that it wasn't anything too bad...
* * *
Amy81
I left the meeting with Sheba in a state of disbelief. I just couldn't believe that someone might be after me still, and Major Brie as well. Even after my little talk with Skuzzy, the greasy black shirt loser, there had still been that sliver of doubt, that the way things looked was not the way they really were. But Sheba had pretty much put all the doubt to an end.
"I need to stop at my locker", Brie said, breaking the silence and my train of thought.
"Me too" I replied, still trying to digest the information Sheba had given us. We walked up to our lockers, and worked the combinations. Like a couple of syncronized robots, we finished our combinations and both grabbed the handles at the exact same time. It seemed funny to me and I began to smile and say something, but suddenly there came a bright flash from our lockers, followed by an impossibly loud noise. As I fell I tried to bring my hands up to cover my ears, but by then it didn't seem to matter anymore.
* * *
Capt_Skyler
Skyler and Najinn were working out in the Gold Squadron Gym when a loud noise alerted them. They both grabbed their blasters and ran from the room. Once in the corridor they saw smoke coming from what had once been Brie's door. Lt. Col. Charybdis stood just outside the doorway. The look on his face was one Skyler remembered from his youth. It was the look everyone had after the fall of the colonies. Something bad had just happened. They rushed towards Charybdis, but he stopped them and told them to secure the ends of the corridor. Knowing now was not the time to question orders, they spit up, each taking a different end. They were soon joined by a few other Warriors. Skyler ran countless possibilities through his head, and so far the best one still had his friends hurt bad. Some one was going to pay for this, and pay dearly.

Stadia
"I asked Stadia about what happened to her. She said to ask you and then she said something about the man who attacked her in med bay being after Amy. What is going on?"
Capt. Urdea sucks in air. "She came to my office the night she collapsed. she had a info-sphere. On that sphere there were copies of vids of court scenes and other documents. She said that they were from the trial of her former lover. I understood his name to be Stelgen. She had been set to take the seal with him when she found out he was selling brain crystal. She turned him in and testified against him. He swore he would get her back. She said it tore her apart. It seems they are both on this ship."
Major Lucian takes the information in...
"It does seem that way. I just wish I knew how Amy and Brie were connected to this all. It is driving me nuts. Stadia said that this guy said he was taking care of business and personal. I think you need to bring him in for questioning."
Major Lucian stands. They talk a few moments about the explosion.
Major Lucian heads out of the security office and back to the medical bay.
* * *
Stadia's eyes fluttered open to see Major Lucian sitting next to her bed with his head lying on her leg. She wondered if he got any sleep at all. She looked at his face she traced her finger down his cheek. She thinks to herself, why is this man always by my side. It cant be just duty.
Her finger tickles his nose. He snorts a little as he wakes up. He looks at her and smiles.
“How long have you been awake?” He asked.
“Just a few minutes. Have you gotten any sleep or had anything to eat?”
“ I had a couple of hours of sleep and a hot shower. I haven’t had time to go to the mess hall. Since when did you care about my well-being?” He asked.
“Since you have been here every moment your not required elsewhere. Since you were asleep on my leg and since you look like hell.” She said looking him right in the eye. She knew something was there but she also knew she could never act on it.
Before she realizes what she is doing she sits up and kisses Major Lucian on the lips passionately…….
* * *
Lucian
Lucian's body tensed at the sensation of the kiss. His mind, still foggy from the nap, wasn't sure what was happening, but it frightened him that he wasn't in control. Stadia feeling his hesitation, withdrew slightly. Looking into his eyes, she saw a look of pain and uncertainty.
She started to speak but Lucian held up a hand, interrupting her, saying, "Stadia, I'm sor--sorry. I didn't mean--"
BEEP! BEEP! The sound came from his comm.
"Excuse me. Yes?" said Lucian as he activated the device.
"Major, there's been an explosion in Major Brie's quarters in the Gold Squadron Barracks. Please report there immediately," said the voice.
"On my way. Lucian, out," he said. Turning to Stadia, he said, "Lieutenant Stadia, I--I must go. I'll check on you...later. Excuse me."
He turned and exited. Stadia, feeling somewhat better after a long rest during the cycle, watched him go....
* * *
Doc BKJ stood outside the door to what had been Brie's quarters. She had tears on her cheeks as she confirmed her friend's death. Commander Sheba shook her head as Doc gave her report. There was no need for an autopsy according to Doc, since the injuries were so obvious. The two bodies had been placed in body bags, which she had sealed personally, and were sitting on gurnies outside the room. The tags showed that the bodies were to be cremated "as is" due to their individual conditions. Commander Sheba requested four of the Gold Squadron Warriors nearby to escort the bodies to the ship's crematorium for immediate cremation. The memorial service was scheduled for 03:00 during First Shift.
"Captain Urdea. I want to know who, why, and how, immediately. If you can't figure it out, I'll find someone who can, understood?" Sheba headed back to the bridge.
"Whitcher, do we have everything? Get someone down here to clean up this mess," he said, pointing to the pile of wipes stained with blood and charred ash. "Who's go the duty?"
"Lieutenant Selgin, Sir," Whitcher replied.
"I want it gone, now. If he can't get one of his officers down here, he's to come himself, immediately. Relay that word for word."
"Doing it, Sir," said Sergeant Whitcher. "Security to Lieutenant Selgin. Come in..."
Major Lucian came running up with a couple of Black Squadron Warriors in tow. "What happened?" he asked. Urdea took him aside to give him the horrible news.
* * *
Lieutenant Selgin passed the Warrior escort with the two gurnies carrying the bodies to the crematorium. He smirked slightly, as they passed, barely able to contain his glee at the deaths of his two "enemies." Hawke had done his job even better than Selgin had dreamed.
A short time later, Selgin, grumbling, pushed the cart with the debris to the recycle station. Much of this was considered hazardous waste, so it had to be separated prior to being put in the chute. Selgin used a small knife to cut off a corner of a particularly bloody rag, which he placed in a small plastic evidence bag he pulled from his pocket. A few centons later, with the debris properly disposed, he stopped by the Science Lab, and asked the person on duty if he could borrow one of the scanners. Within minutes, he'd prepared a sample, ran the computer analysis, and had results printed on a piece of paper. He read the paper and smiled. Major Brie's DNA matched the blood wiped from the room. Grinning, he disposed of the sample, erased the evidence from the computer, including his fingerprints, and headed on his way. He found Hawke, preparing for bed a short time later. "Well done, Officer Hawke. Both problems were properly resolved. Second Shift tomorrow, we meet to discuss how you can be of help in our group."
Selgin went back to his rounds. Hawke lay down on his bunk, wondering..."
* * *
In the Med Lab, Doc sterilized cleaned the needles and tubes, and returned them to their proper positions in the medical supply storage. She washed her face, then, still feeling dirty, headed to the turbowash.
* * *
Charybdis
"What happened once you got there, Charybdis?" Commander Sheba asked rather pointedly.
I was a bit unnerved by the whole thing. I stammered a bit, "I came around the corner of the corridor to see smoke and debris around Brie's door. The door had been a bit damaged and I immediately opened it to go inside. It was not a pretty sight." I looked away for a moment.
Sheba did not blink. "What then?"
She seemed very calm considering. "I put out the call to Urdea and Doc BKJ. I immediately sealed off both ends of the corridor with several Warriors who were nearby and came to check what the explosion was all about."
"Did they see anything?" she asked.
"No. Apparently no one saw anything. No one but me, and then Doc BKJ were there immediately after it happened."
Sheba nodded. "I want you to say something at the service. Brie and you go way back and also..." she looked down, "I'm sure Amy and those who knew her would appreciate it if you said something."
I agreed.
Sheba continued with one more thing. "I guess it's time we make it known. Make the announcement."
I walked out of her quarters.
* * *
Stadia
Stadia leans back in her bed. Slightly embarrassed she can’t believe she kissed him like that. She thinks to herself, “what have I done?” She leans back and stares at the wall.
* * *
Meanwhile, Lucian is talking to Urdea.
“I sure wish someone could connect all this. I am really tired of loosing people that mean something to me. I know Stadia is linked to this mess by virtue of Stelgen but I can’t figure out the links between Brie, Amy and this mess.”
“Well Lucian we know that someone was using Adrian to get at Amy before he got killed. We just need to find the common ground between them all. Lets head back to my office and see what they come up with.
Whitcher, when all the test get done bring me the results in my office.”
“ Yes Sir.” Whitcher turned back to his task
Back in Med Bay, Stadia was looking at the ceiling when Holodoc enter the cubicle. Stadia jumps as she hears the click of Holodoc’s shoe on the floor. Looks up quickly to see that it is Holodoc.
“Time for more tests. We have to trace the damage done to you by the drug in order to determine what the side effects are going to be.”
Stadia rolls her eyes. She hates medical tests and being confined to bed. It was boring.
“Yes, more tests.”
Stadia leans back on the bed and suffers through more scans, blood work and motor skills tests.
Lucian and Capt. Urdea enter his office. They sit down Urdea in his chair and Lucian in the other. They start talking about everything that is going on. Suddenly Lucian change the subject to something of a more personal nature.
“Urdea I think I got myself into an interesting predicament with Stadia. Early I was in med bay and I had woken up to find her tracing her finger down my cheek. I have a strict policy of not getting involved with warriors under my command but when she kissed me….”
They paused when they heard the announcement.
* * *
Charybdis
I could not believe that i was about to make this announcement. I keyed the vid comm that activated all monitors and speakers around the Callisto. I cleared my throat and began:
"Attention all members of the Callisto: It is with deepest regret that I make the following announcement. Approximately 1 centar ago, Major Brie and Lt. Amy were killed in an explosion in the Major's quarters. Within Colonial Military regulations, their bodies will be cremated and jettisoned to the stars at a memorial service beginning at 03:00."
I wanted to say so much more, but I couldn't. Not right now. I quickly turned off the vid comm and went directly to my quarters...

JustinB was in the Black Squadron Barracks when he heard the announcement.
He sat their in disbelief. He had just started to get to know Amy. They had been friends only a short time, but long enough to sit down and enjoy drinks together. As for Major Brie, he had barely known her. But the one time they did meet he knew he could of gotten to like her. His thought drifted to Amy.
He decided to go and find Major Lucian and offer to help in any way possible to find out who committed this atrocity.

Stadia
Stadia’s eyes clouded over as she listens to the announcement. She hadn’t know either of them well. Brie had tried to help her when this mess with the Frodarians started. Stadia rolls over on her side and cries.

Hawke14
I was sleeping when I heard the announcement. I sighed to myself. I rolled over and tried to get back to sleep. I couldn't. I got out of bed and turbowashed and I put on a clean uniform. I made sure I was ready for duty and went to find Captain Urdea. I found him and asked him "Captain, can I help in the investigation?" Urdea asked me "Why? Why are you interested in this investigation?" I replied "Because Brie WAS my squadron commander before I was assigned here. I think I owe her one after I was the one who decked her. I DO have something to do at the beginning of Second Shift. But can I please help in this investigation?"

Lucian
Urdea glanced at the other Officers standing nearby when Hawke asked to be part of the investigation of Brie's death. He placed a small stack of photos on the desk, and looked Hawke directly in the eyes. "Officer Hawke, there are some aboard this Battlestar who know of your dislike of the late Major, and who might see your desire to investigate her death as an ideal means of covering up incriminating evidence. Of course, we both know that you had nothing to do with it, don't we, but others might not understand. No, Officer Hawke, I don't want you touching this investigation with a three meter pole. Coordinate your regular duties with your squad leader and stay AWAY from it."
Urdea walked away, heading toward the service. Hawke, seeing the photos and no one watching, palmed the small stack and slid them into a pocket.
A few minutes later, he glanced at the photos in private. Most were of the room, but two photos were rather graphic, each showing a close up blood spatters and scorch marks. Each of these also included part of the burned and bloody body of one of the victims. Hawke was surprised at the graphic nature of the photos, but slid them back in his pocket to pass along in his meeting just after the start of Second Shift.

Amy
In the solitude of his inner sanctum, the Noman pondered the information that he had just been handed: the bombing had been successful, and Major Brie and Lt. Amy were dead. That both were dead was excellent, but the Noman felt particularly pleased about bringing about the end of the Lt. Amy. It had been a bothersome ordeal, and not very satisfying at all to pursue.
Nearly continously since security officer Adrian had died, the Noman's trusted compadres had questioned the wisdom of continuing the blood hunt against Lt. Amy. They could never understand the actual physical changes a Noman undergoes during such a hunt, and how once begun, a blood hunt needed to be seen to a conclusion. Yes, the logic behind it was no longer valid since Adrian was dead, but nonetheless it had to continue.
He recalled the day Adrian was brought to him, and his desire to repay Amy and Lt. Col. Charybdis was revealed. Adrian was asked, the Noman remembered. He was asked if he understood that by enlisting the help of a Noman there would be no going back. Adrian had said yes, but he did not understand, and in the end he surrendered his own life to save Lt. Amy's. But it hadn't saved her life, just prolonged it a little.
The Noman relaxed, as much as a Noman could, feeling the heat of his burning blood cooling with each passing micron. It felt good. The hunt was over, and two targets had been caught in the same trap. Pleased, the Noman sat back and began to meditate, his mind fully on the tenets of his proud and ancient race.

Holodoc
Holodoc had noticed Lucian come into MedLab earlier & walk on over to where Stadia was located. She knew that he wasn't getting much sleep with all that he had been working on recently & then still come into MedLab to check up on one of the Warriors in his Squadron, Holodoc knew that things were taking there toll on him by the way he looked when he came into MedLab.
Things had finally slowed down some for Holodoc there in MedLab. She had been so busy since the Frodarians had come on board with doing check ups for them & tending to the Colonial Warriors that had been injuried in the last mission or recently there onboard the Battlestar. While she was sitting at her desk working on some paperwork that had been set to the side until she was able to catch up on it all, Holodoc began thinking back some & realized that many of the Frodarians has stoped coming into MedLab for a check up & wondered why. Holodoc thought it would be a good idea for her to go visit them since they didn't seem to be willing to come into MedLab now. She just hoped that they would be willing to let her help them in seeing to their health.
Holodoc placed a call to Major Lucian to see if he had a Warrior available to see to escort her to the Frodarian section of quarters so that she could check up on their health & make sure everything was going alright for them.
* * *
Lucian
After checking out the scene, a tired and very angry Major Lucian had visited with Captain Urdea. Lucian had seen Security Lieutenant Selgin doing some work, but when he'd advanced toward him at one point, he'd been surrounded by Lieutenant Proteus and Urdea's assistant--Witchie?--and gently steered by the elbows to Urdea.
Lucian said, "Captain, our discussion--"
"Was just that, Major, a discussion, not an indictment. If you wish to allow this investigation to be fruitful, you will NOT interfere at this point, or tip any potential suspects to the cards we hold in our hand," said Urdea.
"For now, Captain. For now; however, from my perspective, our hand looks pretty lousy...and bloody," Lucian replied.
Lucian looked around the scene. His friends, despite the fact that he sometimes teased them about wearing the wrong squadron emblem, were dead, and there was little he could do there at the moment. As he was about to head toward the Black Squadron barracks, Lieutenant JustinB came running up, closely followed by Lieutenants Kris, Nylah, Philandor, and Resonat. He steered them away, feeling as if he was copying Proteus' and Swisher's (?) move. "There's nothing we can do here...for now. Spread the word: all Black Squadron Warriors are to attend the service at 03:00 in the morning unless they are on special assignment. Then, get some rest.
Lucian, his head seemingly swimming in pain and confusion, found a quiet place to set down and reflect in private.
* * *
Kris and Nat had been heading for dinner in the O'Club when the Lieutenant Colonel had made the announcement. Now, instead of a quiet evening of happiness together, their plans were once more interrupted by duty, or at least, the tragedy that sometimes results from it. As they left the Gold Squadron area, Kris said, "Nat, I'm really not..."
"Very hungry?" he asked. "I'm not either, my love. Let's just go...somewhere, together."
Hand in hand, they headed down the corridor.
* * *
"This is terrible!" said an angry Nylah. "Warriors killed! And not just any Warriors, but one of the top Warriors on this ship! Something's got to be done, and I don't see anyone doing it."
Philandor nodded, "You may be right, but we've got to give them a little time. Major Lucian or Lieutenant BatGal will let us know when the time is right to do something if nothing happens soon. I heard it in his voice."
"Yeah, I heard it, too, but there was something else, too. He was hurting, bad. You don't think he secretly had something going for Lieutenant Amy, too, do you?"
Philandor almost broke a smile, "No. I don't think so. The Major's a strange bird, probably due to the way he was raised on the research ship with no other kids around. I heard from a couple of the more senior Black Squadron Warriors that he'd become good friends with Major Br--"
They jumped out of the way as Captain Lazant came running past, heading toward the Gold Barracks. He was dressed in his training uniform, and was carrying a large black bag that looked quite heavy. He looked very distressed and in no mood to slow down.
"Another one heartbroken over Amy, you think?" Nylah asked.
* * *
A few centars later, Lucian returned to the Med Lab, after getting a couple of centars of sleep. He approached Stadia's bed quietly, pulling the chair close. He put his hand on the bed rail, and was surprised when Stadia closed a hand over his a moment later.
"Major, Lucian, you came back--"
"Stadia, I wanted to check on you and tell you I'm sorry that I tore out of here like a fraidy cat. I just didn't know what to do, how to act, but I knew I couldn't act like that. I'm responsible for you, for Black Squadron as a whole, and for the safety of this Battlestar. I can't ever do anything that might compromise any of those responsibilities."
"A relationship, Lucian, doesn't mean abdicating or even compromising responsibility. It means dealing with it on a different level. We're Warriors, but we deserve lives and happiness, too. Look at Major Brie and Lieutenant Amy. I didn't know them well, but I know they deserved better," Stadia said. "Lucian, there's nothing stopping us but ourselves..."
"Sometimes we are our own biggest obstacle, Lieutenant. I'm sorry." He squeezed her hand and turned to go.
"Lucian," she called. "I'm improving."
* * *
Stadia
Stadia watches him leave, knowing that this was going to be tough on the both of them. She wondered why he seemed so aloof yet so caring. She knew there was more to him being by her side then a sense of duty and responsibility. Her thoughts about him lingered on. She found she could think about nothing else.
She rolls over on her side and tries to get some rest. She thinks about Major Brie and Lt. Amy. A tear rolls down her cheek.

Lucian
Lucian was getting ready for the service when he received the call from Holodoc. Looking over the list, he said, "Training has been cancelled for the cycle, so many of our Warriors have a light cycle planned after the service. I'll have Lieutenant JustinB check with you right after the memorial service. I think he'll be glad to escort you."
* * *
Stadia
Major Lucian finishes his conversation with Holodoc. He looked at the time. It was 02:35 now. He started to walk toward the door when he paused for a moment. A thought suddenly appeared in his head. He walks out the door and heads toward the location of the memorial service.
* * *
Stadia hears Holodoc talking to Major Lucian. She hoped that nothing would happen to her when she went to check on the Frodarians. They were a easily led people and sh e feared more would happen.
Stadia, feeling restless, keyed the comm. panel next to her bed. She began typing a note to Major Lucian
“You said sometimes we are our own biggest obstacle. To be afraid of something and to avoid it means always being alone and afraid to open up. We live in a finite world filled with danger. As such life cannot be taken forgranted.
The best of life is that which ever reaches upward and strives toward better things <real life author James R. Miller>”
She marks the note as personal and times the delivery so he will get it when he returns from the service.

In the temporary detention area, the questioning of Captain Jorlan was continuing for a second cycle. His story had remained consistent, but Leucia still felt as if something was being hidden. Jorlan's request to attend the memorial service, which would be starting in just a few centons, had been denied, since it would be difficult to watch him and even more difficult to protect him if some crazy Colonial or even crazier Frodarian suddenly attacked him.
"Sergeant, you must convince the Lieutenant to allow me to at least attend her service so I can repay her. She saved my life, and I must at least show her respect," he said.
Before Luecia could even speak, Lawton stepped back into the room and said, "Respect her all you want, 'Captain' Jorlan, but respect her from here. Until you tell me all of it, you're not going anywhere!"
* * *
JustinB
Before he entered the memorial service, Major Lucian grabbed Lieutenant JustinB by the shoulder and pulled him aside. "Lt, after the service I need you to report to Holodoc in the Med-Lab straight after the service. You will be escorting her to the Frodarian section of quarters. Be on your guard Lt and stay safe," Maj. Lucian said.
"Sir, I would be glad to do it. It will help me keep focussed. I might even be able to pick up some info on what has happened," JustinB said half-heartedly. JustinB then took his place in the service.
* * *
Charybdis
Warriors were arriving in from all parts of the ship. The room was filling fast for Brie and Amy's memorial service.
I stood outside in the corridor peering in. In the center of one side of the room, the narrow conveyor led to the jettison aperture. On the conveyor sat two small cylinders.
Everyone knew what was in those canisters. A small Colonial flag was draped over each.
As things settled down, Commander Sheba arose and walked up to the podium. "It is a Warrior's duty to commit themselves totally to the cause for which they fight. To fight and to protect. To do whatever it takes. Along the way, many sacrifice their lives for what they believe in..."
Sheba went on about the attributes of all the Warriors we have lost over the yahren. She then said nice words about Brie and Amy. When she finished, she looked over at me.
Keeping my feelings in check, I stepped up to the podium and began. "Where does one begin to serve justice to a human being? To describe who they were. Or what they meant to each and every one of us? You can't. Just as we can't explain why we lose friends and family. Why does the loss come? For what reason? For what purpose?
"That fateful night 23 yahrens ago when the destruction came to the Colonies was the worst night of my entire life...I lost my brother and sister that night. Those feelings of total loss and despair that I felt as a youngster that night are now rivalled with what has transpired here this very cycle. Major Brie and I went way back. Impeccable integrity. Total devotion to duty. But a passionate woman that most of you didn't really ever get to know. Back when she was sealed with her husband, she was almost a different person. Happy, at peace with herself. But, we lost him a few yahrens ago too. I pray that you are with him now, Brie..."
A few people began to tear up and cry. I tried hard not to let any feelings slip out. The next part was going to be even harder.
"Lt. Amy came aboard the Callisto over a yahren ago. If there was anyone who was so full of life it was her. She touched so many people in such a short time. Many of you might know that I was somewhat close to her. I knew her..." I almost could not speak. "I was ready to spend my life with her." I couldn't go on. "She'll be missed." I abruptly blurted out and immediately left the room. I had to get out of there.
I stopped outside of the room in the empty corridor and leaned against the wall. I took a deep breath and slowly let it out as I looked toward the heavens.
I quickly made my way back to my quarters…
* * *
Commander Sheba rose again and announced that all who wished could now rise to the podium and pay their last respects and speak to those gathered.
The procession began...
----------------------------------------------
On one of the ship's computer monitor's that carried all squadron orders and ship announcements, the message came across that Capt. Cain would now be in command of Gold Squadron. The permanent record would have to be approved by Core Command as well as a required promotion for Cain to the rank of Major, but at this point it was a minor technicality. Due to rank, Capt. Skyler would assume Second in Command.

Lucian
Next, Captain Lazant rose from his chair and stepped forward. There were some intense stares at his back as he approached the lectern, but he stood straight and tall, unflinching. Looking out over the assembly, he said, “Major Brie was strong yet gentle, firm, but kind. She looked at me and saw my faults, but she accepted me as I am, and I am better for her friendship, as are many here. I did not know her as well as I would have liked, but I feel blessed to have known her as well as I did. When a Warrior is struck down…is taken away…as abruptly as she was, many people suffer. Our people, the human race, lose a part of ourselves with her loss. I will miss her greatly.”
* * *
Stadia
Major Lucian stood up and approached the podium after Lazant finished his remarks. He takes a moment to compose himself.
“What can one say about Major Brie and Lt. Amy?
Major Brie was the epitome of what a colonial warrior should be. She was dedicated, strong, caring and the best at what she loved to do. There wasn’t a time when she did not have the time to help the warriors under her. Lt. Amy in particular. She sacrificed much to do her job.
Lt. Amy was a student. She was learning to be the best colonial warrior she could be. Through adversity she strived to learn. She was bright and energetic…” Lucian’s voice cracks a bit as he tries to finish his thoughts.
“…They both impacted my life. My life has been made richer for the short time they were in mine.”
Lucian steps away from the podium. Everyone could see that the stress of the tragedies weighed heavily upon his shoulders.
Lucian finds that he suddenly feels uncomfortable with everyone watching him. He takes his place in the chair. He remembers all the mission planning, the socializing he did… He finds himself really overwhelmed. He rubs his eyes as he stands and makes his way out of the service. He leans against the wall outside of the memorial service to compose himself. He left the area and made his way back to his quarters.
He entered his quarters and slips his dress jacket off. He pours himself some water to drink and sits on his couch. He takes a long drink of water and contemplates his life.
In med bay, Stadia is watching the service on the vid. screen. She sees the camera showing Lucian leaving the service. She feels sad for him. He has the weight of the world on his shoulders and no way to relieve the stress. She knew he needed to let go. He was being pulled in to many directions.
Stadia got lost in listening to the comments being made and watching the cylinders being sent for cremation when she heard a noise. She looks up to see…

JustinB
Although he was in two minds to say something, JustinB decided to say a few words.
"I barely knew Major Brie, but what I do know is, she was a person who treated others as equals no matter their rank. I am sorry I did not get to know her better. As for Lieutenant Amy, we had a few good times. From what I could gather, she would rather help a person with their problems than share her burdans. She did not care that I was from another Squadron and in time we could of been close friends. I just hope we take their bravery and their honour into ourselves and do what is right and survive."
JustinB then took his seat. His head bowed, he thought of the great time, he and Amy had in the O'Club. He was still going to offer to help in any way possible, to find out who committed this atrocity. He then temporarily put it out of his head. Straight after the service, he was to escort Holodoc to the Frodarian section of quarters so that she could check up on their health & make sure everything was going alright for them. He was gonna make sure no harm came to her.
* * *
Lucian
Captain Urdea stepped up to the lectern to say a few words. Urdea always hated to speak in front of large groups, except in command situations, which in his mind he saw differently, so his obvious discomfort made his words seem even less polished than they were. “Major Brie, uh, was a very good Warrior and a, ah, a good woman. She had so much to live for, and, ah, so much to do for our people. Now, she’d expect us to go on and keep doing whatever was right for our people.” Urdea paused for a moment, then continued, “Lieutenant Amy’s death is tough, too. I’m…ah…sorry...for their loss.”
He left the service, heading toward the Med Lab.
* * *
Lucian needed to relieve some stress. The strain had been incredible during the last few days, and the one person he could speak with about it was now dead. He'd tried to find Brie just a short period before her death...if only he'd found her, she might have still been alive!
He'd just changed into exercise gear, then climbed on the glider and started at a slow pace. As he moved, his eyes darted to the small stack of neatly folded clothes next to the machine. The handle of his laser pistol was just visible sticking out the side of the bundle. Based on what had been happening recently, Lucian felt he couldn't take any chances.
Lucian had been in charge of Black Squadron for some months, and so far, he'd had the excellent fortune to have his squadron remain intact. He'd lost no Warriors on his watch, except for one unexplained incident that appeared to have been self-inflicted. He'd always known that death could come in many forms and in many ways, but when Lieutenant Stadia, who'd been under immense strain herself, was suddenly almost snatched from his command, it had felt devastating. He'd not protected his squadron from within, and now he didn't know how to correct the problem.
To make matters worse, in his zeal to help Stadia, it seemed he'd pulled some of the wrong strings in her heart. He'd tried to explain, but he felt that his attempt had degenerated into a hopeless, unmitigated disaster.
He was moving faster now, feeling the burn, with his breath coming faster and his heart starting to race. Now, he was torn between the unachievable, untouchable woman of his dreams, and the possibility of something with Stadia, a kind caring woman who he could also never have due to his personal ethics and military decorum. He knew he never had a chance with the first, the sole object of his affections from almost the moment he'd joined the fleet almost two yahrens earlier. She was a woman he could never have. To make matters worse, his feeling for her was something he could never express. The frustration was incredible, but he knew he had to continue to deal with it. Now, he knew he had to put those feelings behind him, but transfering his affections to another, especially one under his personal command, would never be acceptable to him. He thought about Stadia, how nice it had been, but how he knew he could not allow it to happen again. He'd explained it to her, so he was sure that she understood, IF he'd actually explained it the way he'd tried.
He ended in a flurry, then slowed, and stepped down to pick up the bundle. He hit the turbowash, feeling somewhat better for the first time in a long while. Still as he dressed, he couldn't seem to shake the thoughts of two women from his mind.
* * *
Stadia looked up, half expecting to see Lucian, but she was surprised to see Urdea standing in front of her. "Captain, an unexpected surprise," she said.
"But not a pleasure, I see," he said. "Believe me, Lieutenant, I understand, but I have a few questions now that it appears your head has largely cleared. Our investigation continues, and you have protection stationed just outside the Med Lab, so I need you to not speak with anyone about anything relating to this investigation at the moment. Now, to the questions. First, do you remember..."
* * *
Skyler
Skyler made his way to the podium. His stomach felt as one big knot. His voice trembled slightly.
"There is not much I can say about Major Brie that hasn't already been spoken. She was a great person. A great Commanding Officer. She will truly be missed. It was my honor to serve under her command."
Skyler paused and took a deep breath. His eyes glassed over as he used all his might to hold back his tears.
"I had the honor of flying with Lt. Amy on one of her first missions on the Callisto. We spoke of it just the other day. I can still see her Viper with that damaged tank hanging underneath. Even with her Vipers handling problems due to the tank, she still wanted to charge head first into the fight. Not for glory, but because her fellow Warriors were in danger. Brie and Amy will be missed, but not forgotten. They were to much of our lives for us to let that happen."
Skyler clinched his fist and you could see his entire body tense.
"And whoever did this better hope I don't find you first!!!"
Skyler left the podium and left the room. He was opening and closing his right hand into a fist rapidly. You could hear his knuckles crack everytime. He anger built up until he needed to release it. He turned and punched the bulkhead, then turned and walked away, leaving the slight imprint of his fist in the metal. He went to the barracks. Looking on the monitor he saw Cain had been posted as the new Squadron CO, and he was made the new XO. A posting he didn't want, but he swore to himself he would do the job and make Brie proud of him. He would show her that she hadn't misplaced her trust when she promoted him to Captain. He would not be the same rash Warrior she saw in the sims so long ago.

“DON’T WEEP” Dedicated to our beloved Brie and Amy
(Inspired by No Doubt’s “DON'T SPEAK”)
Brie and Amy… We used to be together Every day together…always
I really feel I’ve lost my best friends I can't believe This is really the end
It looks as though you're really gone And if it's real Well, we must carry on…
(Chorus) Don’t weep When you think of Brie and Amy Just keep on masquerading and pretend it doesn’t hurt. Don’t weep Farewell to our beloved friends Our love for them won’t end We’ll just pretend it doesn’t hurt…
Our memories Of warriors bravely fighting They can be inviting But some are altogether Mighty frightening.
(Chorus) Don’t weep When you think of Brie and Amy Just keep on masquerading And pretend it doesn’t hurt. Don’t weep Farewell to our beloved friends Our love for them won’t end We’ll just pretend it doesn’t hurt…
As we fight not to cry We’ll stand side by side. With our heads held high We look to the sky
(Chorus) Don’t weep When you think of Brie and Amy Just keep on masquerading and pretend it doesn’t hurt. Don’t weep Farewell to our beloved friends Our love for them won’t end We’ll just pretend it doesn’t hurt…
***
We will miss you.

Raycer
Raycer couldn’t bear to go to the memorial service for Brie and Amy. He knew them, he fought next to them, and he spilled blood with them. "That is no way for a warrior to die." he thought. He walked toward the hanger where his Viper was parked. When he arrived, he walked around his Viper, running his hand on it. "This is how a warrior should die, in the cockpit fighting. Not opening a locker." He then walked over to a maitance locker and pulled out some black paint. "this can be my way to remember them." A centon or two later he was done. he took a step back and looked at his handy work. On the the side of his Viper. "The Heart of Fallen Warriors" was painted just below the canopy. "Now you will always be part of me. And I promise to both of you, I will help find out who did this and I will personally make them pay." he yelled as lound as he could. He grabbed his bottle of ambrosia that he kept hidden in his Viper for a special occasion, sat down in his seat and took a big long glup. "Here's to you Amy and Brie, may the Lord of Kobol protect you from now on." he said as he raised the bottle in the air and took another glup. "Rest in piece, my friends....... my family." he whispered. And he procceeded to get drunk.
* * *
Skyler
After Skyler change he sat on his bunk. His mind was filled with thoughts of his dead friends, the upcoming mission, the other warriors. He stood checked his blaster and walked out the door. He needed to clear his mind, he needed to find Mara. She had been close to Amy and friends with Brie. If she was hurting half as bad as he was, he wanted to be with her to help ease her pain. After a few centons he found her in the Observation Lounge, she sat looking out one of the view ports. Her tear streaked face proof she had been crying. He sat down into the spot next to her and put his arm around her. He was not really sure she knew he was there. He pulled her closer and he felt her begin to weep again. She placed her head on his shoulder and they watched the stars streak by and remembered their fallen friends.

Rose
Lt Rose quietly sat in one of the seats towards the back of the room. She didn't know Major Brie or Lt Amy all that well, for her to go forward and say something about them. Rose could tell that this was hitting several people harder than the rest. It was always hard when one of your own was lost for one reason or another, but this time it made no sense at all.
Rose had hoped to see Hawke during the memorial service but had yet to see him there. She began wondering what was going on with him these days. Several different times when she would go in search of him so that they could spend a little off duty time together, she had been unable to find him at all.
Unable to continue just sitting there in the memorial service, Rose quietly got up and walked out of the room heading towards any place that she could find some peace and quiet so that she could think things through.
* * *
MaraJade
Mara and Skyler just sat there and let the tears flow.
"Why Skyler? Why them?" was all she could say. She missed Brie and Amy. Brie was the one that took her under her wing in the beginning. "Brie was the one that believed in me in the beginning. She put her life in my hands in that battle and trusted me. She made me feel like I had a home here. Now she's gone."
Then there was Amy. The one that convinced Mara to dress up that night. Mara smiled and giggled a little.
"What you giggling about?" he asked.
"Remember that night we met? When you bumped your head?"
"yeah"
"Amy's the one we had to thank for that night. She convinced me to get dressed up and head out. Now she's not here to see the sealing ceremony when it happens. Oh Skyler, why?"

JustinB
As soon as the service ended, JustinB made his way to the Med-Lab. For now he had to put everything behind him and concentrate on the task at hand. As he entered, Holodoc was at her station. She looked like she was away in another system. She sat there, with her cats Jadzia, Abby Tabby & BrieCORA.
He walked over to her, "Lt JustinB, reporting for escort duty."
"No need to be formal here JustinB, I will be ready in a few centons," Holodoc said with a sigh. "You can be alert, but try not to look menacing. I have to find out why the Frodarians are not coming to the Med-Lab. Do you think you can do that?"
"It won't be a problem," He said. Catching a glimpse of Lt Stadia he asked, "Will Stadia fully recover Holodoc?"
"We don't know yet, but we hope so," Holodoc said sounding like she was trying to be optimistic. "Just one more centon and we will be on our way."
* * *
Holodoc
Holodoc carefully picked up Jadzia, Abby Tabby, & BrieCORA & took them back to her sleeping area there in Med-Lab. She didn't want the running around while she was out checking up on some of the Froadians. Holodoc carefully placed her cats in her sleeping area & placed some of their toys down on the floor to play with & placed the gate in the doorway so they they wouldn't be able to get out of her sleeping area.
Holodoc then walks back out to where JustinB was patiently waiting for her & picks up the items she would be taking with her to check on the Frodians & they head on out of Med-Lab. During the walk to the quarters where the Frodians were staying Holodoc & JustinB chatted about various topics trying to keep their minds off of recent events.
When Holodoc & JustinB reach the area where the Frodians are staying, Holodoc lets them know that since they were not coming to Med-Lab for their check ups or follow up check ups on treatments that she decided to come visit them. The ladies reluctinally let Holodoc & JustinB inside so that she could see to any medical needs. When they walked inside one of the little girls walked up to Holodoc & gently pulls on Holodoc's lab jacket. Holodoc kneels down to the little girls level & smiles at her. "Miss, could you help my dolly? She hurt her leg," the little girl says. Holodoc smiles & pushes some of the little girls hair out of her eyes. "I would be happy to help your little dolly," Holodoc says.

JustinB
As Holodoc and Lt JustinB reached the Frodarian section of quarters, Holodoc turned to JustinB and said, "Just remember, with recent events and how the Frodarians see us, try your best to not look threatening in any way. I know you aren't, but the Frodarians need to be medically checked. So we have to avoid any confrontations if possible."
"I am ok with that. But the micron your life is in danger I will react. Until then, I will put on a smile and be as pleasant as I can." JustinB replied.
The Frodarian ladies reluctinally let Holodoc & JustinB inside so that Holodoc could see to any medical needs. When they walked inside a little girl walked up to Holodoc & gently pulled on her lab jacket. Holodoc knelt down to the little girls level & smiled at her. "Miss, could you help my dolly? She hurt her leg," the little girl said. Holodoc smiled & brushes some of the little girls hair out of her eyes. "I would be happy to help your little dolly," Holodoc said. With that she scanned the dolly and said, "I will have her leg fixed in a centon.
While JustinB stood there, he could feel all the stares around him. Some were so piercing, he could imagine the knives being shoved into him. 'I know how they feel' he thought to himself. At that moment Holodoc said, "Here you go she is as good as new." When the dolly was returned the little girl had the biggest smile JustinB had seen in a long time.
* * *
Holodoc
Holodoc couldn't help but smile back at the little girl who had come forward with her dolly asking for treatment for her dolly. She knew that it was a small step in winning the trust of the other children & of the ladies there, so that she could see to their medical needs.
"Mommy," the little girl says when she see's her mother coming towards her, "look, my dolly is all better. The nice lady fixed her up for me. Maybe she can help Dusty." The little girls mother smiles down at her, leans down & picks her up into her arms, & replies, "now Emily, I'm sure the nice lady here & the Warrior with her have other things they could be doing besides checking up on us." Holodoc looks up & replies, "I got concerned actually about some of you since I noticed that those of you that had come into Med-Lab for treatment had stoped coming in for another check up & I wanted to make sure everyone was alright. When I mentioned to one of the Squadron Leaders that I would be coming here for a visit to check up on those that I knew had been sick he suggested that one of the Warriors come with me just in case I needed any extra assistance during my visit & since the others in Med-Lab were needed to tend to the patients already there recovering from various injuries or illnesses. If you would like I could still look over your little boy." The lady holding the little girl thought about things & then finally nodded giving her consent for Holodoc to look over her son & leads Holodoc over to where Dusty was resting.
Holodoc kneels down beside Dusty & checks him over & see's that he had a few scraps & bruises on his arms & legs. She didn't say anything while she was treating the little boy. Holodoc only made a few mental notes to check up on him again in a few days. When she finished checking over Dusty, some of the other children & ladies came forward willing to let Holodoc check them over also in hopes of getting some good news in improvements on the conditions they had originally seen her about when first arriving on the Callisto.

JustinB
Finally, most of the Frodarian ladies come forward willing to let Holodoc check them over. Also they were hoping of getting some good news in improvements on the conditions they had originally seen her about when first arriving on the Callisto. They seem eager for help, so JustinB lets out a big sigh.
As Holodoc tends to those who want help, JustinB hears someone groaning with pain. He also hears other voices, as in support for the person in pain. As he looks around a corner he sees a group of ladies, standing around what looks like a very pregnant Frodarian lady. He sees that she could be in trouble so he rushes to Holodoc side.
"Ah,Holodoc," he says, "I think we have a major problem."
"What is it JustinB?" she asked.
"Well, I have just seen a very pregnant Frodarian lady. She is either having complications or is about to give birth, or both. Either way she looks to be in heaps of pain."
Holodoc was finishing a dressing, so she said "See if you can find out whats going on and I will be there in a centon."
JustinB went over and when he was nearly there, a few of the ladies stopped him. "Stay away Colonial, we don't need your help. We Frodarians can look after ourselves."
In a calm voice he said" "I mean you no harm or malice. Please tell me whats wrong so I can relay it to our Med-Tech who is around the corner. We really want to help you."
As JustinB was about to talk again, he felt a hand upon his shoulder. It was Holodoc. "He tells you the truth. Please let us help her," Holodoc pleaded.
* * *
Holodoc
Holodoc was waiting for an answer to her offer of help when the woman labor moaned again & tried to hide the pain she was obviously in at that moment. One of the other Friodian ladies there helping out kneeled down beside the woman in pain & looked up with a paniced look on her face. "Let her help. Maggie needs her help, for I don't have the knowledge to help her now they way this lady does," Eve says indicating Holodoc.
Holodoc stepped forward & thought she was still going to be denied to help the woman named Maggie who was in labor, but finally the other ladies blocking the way stepped back & let her pass so that she could help. Holodoc kneeled down next to Maggie & began checking her over some. After a few centons she speaks up, "Will you let me take you to Med-Lab? Your delivery would go much better there & I could get something to help you with the pain." Maggie went pale as she had another contraction pain & grabs Holodoc's arm. "Please help me. I can't lose this child also," Maggie begs of Holodoc.
Holodoc nodded quickly & started calling for a few things she was going to need in order to do what she could to try & make this as comfortable as possible for Maggie during the delivery of the child she was carrying. A few of the ladies brought forward some of the items Holodoc asked for & Holodoc thanks them as she opens up one of the blankets & spreads it over Maggies stomach knee's to where it would drap down some.
"Maggie," Holodoc says, "I am going to check you now to see how you are progressing along. Please just try to relax & remember to breath." Maggie nodded & continued her breathing as Holodoc reached under the blanket to check on Maggie's progress. Once she had completed a detailed check, Holodoc let out a few choice words under her breath that would make most men turn red in the face.
"Whats wrong Holodoc?," JustinB asks. Holodoc looks up & over to where JustinB was standing & replies, "this delivery is going to be trickier than I first thought. Things would go better if we were down in Med-Lab, but right now with things the way they are I don't want to risk moving Maggie around to much & make things worse than they already are now."
Holodoc turns back towards Maggie & says, "Maggie, your baby is coming down the wrong way. I am going to have to try to change the babies direction so that he or she will come out head first. I must warn you though, there will be some discomfort in what I will need to do in order to position the baby to where he or she will come head first." Maggie nodded her head & quietly says, "please just help my baby. My baby is all that I have left since we left the planet. I had to leave my husband back there." "Maggie, I will do everything I can to make sure you baby is delivered alive so that you will be able to raise your baby," Holodoc says.
Holodoc reached one hand back under the blanket & she placed her other hand on Maggie's stomach & began trying to manouver the baby into changing positions. While she was working, Holodoc noticed that Maggie was going pale & not breathing like she need to at that moment. "Maggie!," Holodoc says, "please stay with me. Please remember your breathing. Just another centon or two & your baby will be in the correct position for delivery." Holodoc went back to trying to reposition the baby into the correct position for delivery.

**************** Seeing Holodoc was having difficulty, JustinB went back around the corner to look for a comm panel. When he reached it he put an Emergency call to the Med-Lab. "Med-Lab, this is Lieutenant JustinB." "Ensign Phoebe here, state the Emergency," came the nervous reply.
"Holodoc and myself have a pregnant Frodarian lady, with complications. She has stopped breathing a few times. Please notify Dr Bkj, we might just need him. Unfortunatley at the moment, she has refused to come to the Med-Lab. So more medical help is required at the Frodarian quarters." he said. "Ok Lieutenant, help is on its way."
Just as JustinB was about to turn and head back to Holodoc, he caught a glimpse of a warriors uniform. It was Lieutenant Rose. "Rose, come with me quick. Holococ and myself could use your help with an emergency." "What kind of an emergency JustinB?" Rose asked. "The pregnancy type" he replied.
Rose's sad face changed to one of concern. "Well, show me the way. When they arrived he noticed it straight away. The Frodarian lady's lips were starting to turn blue. Holodoc looked up. "Rose, good to see you. I need you to be ready in case she stops breathing." "No problem," Rose said.
All of a sudden, two Frodarian men come running around the corner and nearly knocked JustinB off his feet. One of them yelled at JustinB, "What happened here, did you shoot her Colonial? Will you not be happy to all of us are dead?" JustinB was going to answer, when Eve stood in front of him. "Don't you fools see. Maggie is in pain due to a complication in her giving birth," touching JustinB's shoulder, "the colonials are giving her treatment. These are our friends and so you will show them respect."
Looking at Eve, JustinB says"Thanks". The two men, walk away without saying a word.

Holodoc
Holodoc continued to work on getting the soon to be born baby into the position needed in ordered to be delivered. She looked up at Maggie as she continued to work & noticed Maggie getting even more pale & her lips starting to go blue even more. "Rose & JustinB," Holodoc calls out over her shoulder, "I need both of you over here NOW! JustinB I want you at right above Maggie's head & Rose I want to JustinB's left side facing Maggie." Both JustinB & Rose quickly moved to the place's that Holodoc indicated to them & kneeled down into position. "Now Rose," Holodoc instructs, "I need you to hold Maggie's noise & tilt her head back some as you give her a couple of breaths." Rose nodded & did as Holodoc had asked her to do. "That is good Rose," Holodoc says, "please continue with a few more breaths." While Rose continued to give Maggie some breaths, Holodoc resumed her work on trying to get the baby repositioned. She noticed out of the corner of her eye that Eve had kneeled back down next to Maggie & reached out to hold Maggie's hand & quietly encourage her to come back to them & to her unborn baby.
Just as she got the baby positioned in the position needed, Holodoc felt & heard Maggie take in a deep breath. Rose pulled back as she notice that Maggie was now breathing some on her own. "Maggie," Holodoc says, "I'm glad you are back with us. We almost lost you. I will need you to push as hard as you can with the next contraction." Maggie nods & asks, "y-y-you able to help my baby?" Holodoc smiled & replies, "yes, I was able to get your baby positioned correctly for delivery. Now all we need to do is get your precious baby delivered." Maggie smiled back at Holodoc & looks over at Rose for a moment & reaches out to hold her hand. Maggie then looked up at JustinB & smiled at him also. "JustinB," Holodoc says, "if you would please gently lift Maggie up by her shoulders & support her some during the time she is pushing down during the contractions." JustinB nodded & just then Maggie has a contraction. JustinB gently placed his hands under Maggie's shoulders & lifted her up a little to give her some added support. "Your doing good Maggie," Holodoc says, "keep pushing as hard as you can. You can do this. Soon you will have a healthy new baby to hold in your arms to care for & love with all your heart."
Several centons pass by as Maggie continues to push down with each contraction. "You are doing good Maggie," Holodoc says, "just keep pushing as hard as you can. I can see the baby's head now. Come on Maggie, you can do this." Maggie let out a scream that went out through out the room as she pushed as hard as she could. "Thats it Maggie," Rose quietly says as she pushed some of Maggie's hair out of her eyes, "scream as much as you need to." Maggie continued to push & scream some with each contraction now. JustinB was now having to hold Maggie up now more as the contractions were now coming one right after the other.
"Maggie you are doing good," Holodoc says, "the baby's head is now out. Come on now, I need a really good hard push from you & the shoulders will come. Once the shoulders are out then it will be a little easier in pushing the rest of your baby out." Maggie pushed down hard with the next contraction that went through her & screamed again as she pushed as hard as she could. "Thats it Maggie!," Holodoc says, "one more good hard push like that & you baby will be out completely. Come on Maggie, I know you can do this." Maggie now very tired from all of the pushing replies, "I can't. I am too tired to push any more." "Yes you can Maggie," Eve quietly says, "remember your husband. This child of yours is a way to honor him even though he was unable to come with you."
As another contraction went through Maggie she pushed as hard as she could again with encouragement from the ladies around her. "You are doing good Maggie, just a little more. You are almost done now, Maggie. One more good push & your baby will be all the way out." Maggie pushed as hard as she could again as another contraction went through her & with this push from Maggie, the baby slips on out completely.
JustinB gently leaned Maggie back down so that she could rest some, while Holodoc began cleaning up the new born baby. While she is working with the baby, the baby crying some could be heard through the room & into the ajoining room where some others were currently waiting.
"Maggie," Holodoc says, "you did really well. You should be proud." Maggie smiles a little & asks, "hows my baby?" Holodoc smiles & replies, "he is doing just fine." Holodoc wraps up the new born baby, gently picks him up & just as carefully places him into Maggie's arms.
Just then two med techs show up at the door to the Frodian quarters.

JustinB
When JustinB saw the two med-techs, JustinB let out a sigh of relief. "Glad you could join the party" he said sarcastically. The med-techs and Holodoc then took Maggie and her baby to the Med-Lab. Rose and JustinB followed. They both waited inside the Med-Lab, to make sure everything was going to be alright.
As he looked around he saw Major Lucian, in a bed next to Lt Stadia. He was thinking about going over to see what happened, when Jarrynn came over to him. "Please don't disturb them. They have been through a painful ordeal and they have to be left alone for a while longer. By the way, I you have had an interesting day yourself."
"Yes, I have thanks. I never thought as a warrior, I would be helping to deliver a baby" he said, "please tell Holodoc, I will come back later to see how Maggie and her baby are going. Please also tell both the Major and Lieutenant, that I hope they recover soon."
He turned to Rose and gestured to leave. "After all this excitement, I am heading back to our barracks to rest. Rose what are you going to do?" "Well, I still think I need some time alone. Bries and Amys deaths has got me thinking. But should I need someone to talk to, I'll come and see you" With that JustinB and Rose went their separate ways.
JustinB arrived at his bunk and jumped straight into it.

Stadia
Looked at Capt. Urdea. “…what you did that someone might have had chance to give you the drug?”
“Well, the only places I went to was the aft observation deck, the Officers Club and back to the barracks. I really didn’t feel like doing much. I took the medication for my back and took a turbo shower. I remember coming back and feeling a little nauseous. I laid down. I just thought it was because of all the stress.”
Urdea makes some notes. “Do you still have the medicine?”
“It should be in my locker in the barracks.”
“Tell me a little bit more about Stelgin.”
“Well we had met when we were both training to be fleet security officers. He was so cocky. It was why I fell for him immediately. We dated for over a yahren before he asked me to take the seal. It was at this time I started to notice subtle changes.
I didn’t pay much attention until one day I went into the quarters we shared and found on our bed a journal outlining every sale he had made and to whom. I felt so betrayed. I took it to my superior officer. It was at the time when all the deaths occurred.”
Urdea makes even more notes. “Why do you think Stelgin told you that he was mixing business with pleasure?”
“He swore revenge on me because of what he perceives I did to him. As for the business involving Amy, I cant hazard even a guess. I have been looking into the incident involving Adrian to see if I can make any sense of it. Of course its not like I have anything else to do. Anyways, I was thinking what if this Adrian guy hired someone to do Amy in.”
Urdea jots down a note. Stadia starts to cough a little as she becomes tired. She lays her head back on the pillow and turns so she faces him.
Urdea, seeing that she is tiring puts his notes away.
“We will continue this after you have rested. What do the doctors say about your recovery?”
“They don’t know yet. They’re waiting to see if I have any more seizures. They have no idea what the long-term effects are going to be. I just want to get out of here.”
“Well I hope you get to feeling better soon.” Moves out of the room quietly.
Stadia watches him go, her thoughts drifting to Lucian. She realizes she can never have him. His heart wasn’t in it. Stadia sighs as she thinks of Lucian and him being by her side. She looks out the door and notices a new guy talking to Holodoc. She smiles as he looks in her direction.
* * *
She likes the way he looks and promises herself she would have to find out more about him but for now she had Lucian to deal with.
She keyed the comm. panel and started typing a note to Lucian.
Lucian,
I have been thinking as it is all I have to do. Despite my feelings, it was wrong of me to do what I did. You’re my commanding officer and I never should of put you in an awkward position.
Stadia.
She marks it as personal and sends it. She then keys in another message to Lucian, explaining to him her reasons for what she was about to do. She keyed in the next statement…
It is because of the current situation between the two of us and with a heavy heart, that I request a transfer from Black Squadron to Gold Squadron. I feel that the emotions between us will greatly affect the performance of my duties upon my return. I respectfully ask that the transfer be granted.
Stadia sends the message the proper channels. She lays on her side trying to fall asleep.
* * *
Stadia startles herself awake a she feels a caressing of her cheek. Thinking it is Lucian she rolls over to look at him. Startled to see Stelgin looking at her with a look she thought long gone, she starts to scream.
Reaching up, he covers her mouth and holds the back of her neck. He leans in and whispers in her ear. “You’re coming with me. I cant leave any lose ends around here to connect me to Brie and Amy’s death.”
Stadia grabs at the food tray left on the table. She grabs it and throws it at him trying to hit him on the head. He ducks out of the way and then lunges for her. She slides off her bed and takes a few steps. Her knees buckle underneath her causing her to fall to the floor. She gasps as she feels his hands around her wrists.
He reaches into his pocket and pulls out some binding cuffs. Stelgin cuffs her hands and feet together. Then he tapes her mouth shut. Stadia tries to get lose as he binds her feet to no avail. He scoops her up out of the bed and places her over his shoulder and heads out the door.
Meanwhile Lucian finishes his workout and starts to clean up. He notices a light flashing on his communication panel. He goes over and hits a toggle switch. The messages from Stadia flash up on the screen. He reads the first one not knowing how to feel. He knows that she is doing this to spare his feelings. He decides they must talk it out.
He looks at the second one feeling shocked. Why did she think a transfer was necessary? He takes a turbo shower and puts on a clean uniform and exits his quarters.
He makes his way down the corridor toward med bay. He notices the guards aren’t at their post. He thinks that is strange. He enters med bay cautiously and looks around. He notices the guards lying on the floor. He bends down to check their pulses and breathing. Finding them alive, he makes his way into the main part of med bay. Noticing things in the doorway of Stadia’s cubicle, he enters to find Stadia gone and stuff thrown about.
Lucian pulls out his communications device and calls Capt. Urdea.
“Urdea we have a situation in med bay. Stadia is gone and there is stuff thrown about the room.” He shuts off his comm. device and surveys the damage.
Urdea grabs his communication device and runs out of his office. A short time later he arrives at med bay to find the mess. “Have you found her?”
Lucian approaches Urdea. “No we haven’t found her yet. I am concerned about how her medical condition will affect her.”
“You don’t suppose Stelgin took her do you?”
Lucian blanches at the mention of that name. If he did, and something happened to her… “If he did, we better block every escape route possible. He wants to get his revenge.”
Urdea calls the bridge and orders them to seal all lauch bays. He tells them Stadia has been kidnapped from med bay. He then calls his staff out to search for them. He hates pulling them form the service.
Stelgin makes his way toward the shuttle bay carrying his bundle. He is not surprised he hasn’t met up with anybody. Everyone should be at the memorial service for Brie and Amy. Slips into the shuttle bay and onto the shuttle that he has prepared for his departure.
He sets Stadia down in a seat and straps her in, effectively tying her in. Stadia Looks up to him.
“Stadia we were so happy. Why did you go and ruin it? I could of given you a house and things which you never had.” He looks into her eyes. She can see the pain that has dogged him since being sent to the prison barge. He turned away from her and entered the flight deck to prepare for launch.
* * *
Najinn
Najinn, slumped to the floor. His mind was rushing with all kinds of thoughts and almost at the sametime with non.
Screams of warriors and med staff rushing around Gold's Barracks passed him by as he slipped slowly into his own world. The commotion around him was simply not registering, he knew, he just knew.
The blast had left black marks all around the entrance to the barracks. Skyler was at one end of the corridor, Najinn was at the other.
Najin shook his head, pulled himself together, and walked over to a med tech.
"Who is it?!
"sir, I can't say, that informations not open."
"WHO IS IT!" Najin looked stern at the med tech,
"Sir..... it's Brie and Amy, their.... their..... their dead."
Najin's worst nightmare was real, he turned and walked off down the corridor. Still holding his blaster drawn in his hand by his side, Najinn simply walked off. He was in a world of his own, completely detatched.
He walked and kept on walking towards the obs deck. His quiet place. He opened the hatch door and entered the deck. The stars were bright and the ships silloette hung across the darks walls of the bulkheads. He slumped to the floor, and burst into tears. He was lost in his emotions as he screamed to the heavens....WHY!
Najinn didn't know what to do with himself. He was unconsolable.
He must have spent hours just pouring his heart out, trying to work out why, what it all meant, just how was he going to live without Amy.....could he...?
He stood up, pulled his uniform straight and marched out of the Obs Deck, he marched down the ships corridors towards the launch bays. He passed many warriors and others heading towards the memorial service. He must have been in the obs deck for quite some time. He couldn't contemplate the memorial service let alone the thought of losing two of the most important people in his life, and especially Amy.
He reached the launch bay and mounted his viper. It had been such a long time since he had sat in his Viper, he pulled the hatch closed, and fired up his engines.
"This is core command to Viper 009 you do not have clearance to launch."
Najinn didn't reply.....
"This is core command to Viper 009 you do not have clearance to launch."
Najinn pulled the stick back and then pressed the launch button. His Viper sped out of the ship.
As he emerged from the ship, he turned and flew along the length of the hull sweeping under the Callisto and headed out into the deep beyond...

Lucian
On the bridge, the emergency lights flashed. An unathorized C.O.R.A. equipped Viper had just launched. The special Viper, with its impressive speed would be pulled along with the Callisto due to the mass of the larger ship even during the jump. Geenie was trying to contact the Warrior flying the ship, to no avail. Commander Sheba, who had just returned from the memorial service shook her head in understanding, but gritted her teeth that yet another Warrior might be lost in this mess. She sent a private message on her coded channel.
"We must end this. Now."
Even as she pressed the button to send the message, a second warning went off, and this one was far more dangerous than the first. A shuttle was about to launch during a hyperspace jump! If the shuttle even survived the launch, it and its inhabitant or inhabitants would be forever lost between the stars. Already, the Black Squadron shuttle bay launch doors were opening, and the command override was not responding. The shuttle was moving forward to launch, and since the ship was in the middle of the jump, there was no one in position to do anything about it.
Lucian had immediately posted the Black Squadron Warriors to alert on discovering Stadia's kidnapping. Lieutenant Lusitan had been doing some minor service in the launch bay, trying to take his mind off the memorial service that he'd just left, suddenly saw a shuttle moving. He signalled Major Lucian.
"Lusitan, watch that shuttle! Don't do anything until I get there unless it tries to launch. ON MY WAY!"
On the shuttle, Stadia, in her weakened state, sat helpless in her restraints. She knew that Stelgin could not launch the shuttle while the Callisto was in the jump, but he seemed to be intent on doing so anyway. She tried to speak, but the tape prevented her from saying anything intelligible. Stelgin laughed on hearing it, and said, "Oh my sweet, if you'd just left well enough alone back then. We could have had it all, but you had to be Miss Goody Two Shoes, and destroy me. It took some work to get to this ship, under a new identity and look. I still don't know how you recognized me. I guess my decision not to go with the facial bone grafts when the surgery was performed did me in, you think? No bother. It'll all be over soon...for you anyway. You think I don't know we can't launch? Of course, I'm not that stupid. I'm just setting it on auto. Poor outlaw-drugged Stadia slipped out of Med Lab, shot the guards from behind, which took some work, believe me! Then, in a fit of desperation, maybe having something to do with a certain Major's rejection--yeah, I saw it on the vid, although the fracking sound wouldn't work--she launches into oblivion! There, that'll do it. Good-bye, my sweet. Have a good rest of your life...for the two centons you have left!"
He opened the hatch, jumped, and rolled away. Seeing someone sprinting toward the shuttle, he pulled up the hood on his dark, non-regulation jacket, as he slipped away unseen.
Lucian was puffing as he closed on the shuttle. At 39 yahrens of age, he was still in decent shape, but after the glider workout, his legs, heart, and lungs were screaming at him to stop. He knew he couldn't, no matter what it cost. Unfortunately, Lieutenant Lusitan had been out of position to stop it, though he was now closing as well, and was only a short distance behind.
Seeing the door to the shuttle start to close, Lucian put on a final burst, and launched himself forward, into the hatch.
* * *
"OOOOHHH!!! That hurt like...!" he screamed as he ripped his foot from the now mangled boot which projected from the almost closed door. The hatch sealed with what could have been interpretted as a satisfied hiss. Seeing a wide-eyed Stadia, gagged and bound, he took her cue to head to the flight deck, whipping his laser pistol from the blaster as he hobbled forward. Seeing the opening where the bay doors should have been rapidly growing larger, he realized there was no way to stop the shuttle in time, especially if he had to take out the "pilot." Fortunately, no one was there. He knew that if the shuttle launched, it would likely explode and cause serious damage to the Callisto, so he killed the forward speed and initiated engine shut-down. Seeing that the shuttle was not going to stop in time, he decided to try to limit the damage the best he could, even if it meant giving both their lives. He slid into the seat and slammed the control stick hard to the right. Having no time to slip into the harness, he shouted, "Hold on, Stadia!" just before the shuttle hit the bulkhead.
* * *
Chasing after the shuttle, Lieutenant Lusitan saw the shuttle hit the wall. The impact, damped by the size of the Callisto, still almost threw him from his feet. He ran forward to see no fire, but numerous sparks were being generated, and he wasn't sure if the ship could explode in that condition. He heard emergency vehicles in the distance as he tried desperately to open the hatch...
* * *
Stadia
Stadia braces for the impact of the shuttle against the wall. She grimaces as her body is slammed against the edge of the chair. She loses her breath as the force is dispelled thru her body.
Lucian braces the best he can but his body is thrown against the bulkhead. He takes a moment to catch his breath. He tries to move his arm and grimaces. He struggles to his feet. He turns toward Stadia.
He looks at her as he kneels by her side. He reaches up with his uninjured hand and carefully removes the tape from her mouth. He struggles to release the restraints “Are you ok?” He asks. Stadia shakes her head. “I am a bit tired but I am ok.” Stadia locks her eyes with his…
Lucian struggles with the restraints breaking the gaze. He unsnapped the belt and let it slide down her side. When she was released from the belt she leaned her head into his shoulder.
On the bridge there was a collective sigh but only a short lasting one, as the warrior pilot seemed destined to die.
Commander Sheba slammed her fist into the control panel. Her face was covered in absolute frustration. “Find me a way to get that viper back into the landing bay, NOW!”
Lusitan taps on the shuttle door. “Are you ok?”
Lucian turns to the door and yells, “Lusitan get us out of here. We need medical help.”

Lucian
Now that she was free, Lucian tried to help Stadia walk, but his injuries prevented it. His portable command comm was broken, and the blood getting in his eyes from a cut on his head would have made it difficult to use anyway. As he wiped away more with his sleeve, he tried to apply direct pressure to the cut to stop the bleeding.
Stadia was now helping him sit down. Lucian shouted to Lusitan, "Any luck getting it open, Lusitan?"
Barely audible, he heard a "No...but working on it."
"He'd better hurry," said Stadia, grabbing an extinguisher. "We've got fire on the flight deck."

Stadia trained the extinguisher at the base of the flames and blasted away, but it was already too large. Lucian, blinking blood from his eyes hobbled over to grab another tank from a different compartment. He tied to extend his left arm, but only let out a moan as a result. It had taken the brunt of the impact, and unknown to him, was now suffering from a dislocated shoulder, a minor fracture of the ulna just below the elbow, a sprained wrist, three broken fingers, some minor cuts, and enough bruises to make it look painful. His breathing was strained as well due to three cracked ribs and numerous other scrapes and bruises. Using his still functional right hand, he grabbed the extinguisher and then tried to move forward with it, but the bruised right foot and sprained left knee caused him to fall. As he went down, he shouted, "Stadia, catch!" The tank landed about a half meter behind her, so she scooped it up and started spraying again.
"Lusitan? Any progress? Now would be a good time to say 'YES!'" shouted Lucian.
"Working on it, Major," came the muffled reply. Unsaid was that he wasn't having much luck.
Lucian scooted over to the control panel, pulled some fiber wires free from their connections, and started trying to do something with them to open the hatch with just one hand. While it should have opened, the damage to the mechanism appeared to be too great. It wouldn't budge.
"That one's out, Lucian, but there's smoke coming out of the panels. We don't have much time!" said Stadia.
"This looks hopeless. Let's try to get you out the top hatch," he said. She nodded, and moved to open the upper hatch.

Lusitan had succeeded in climbing atop the shuttle, and hung down to give Stadia a hand. She turned to protest, but Lucian gave her a gentle push and said, “Go!” Up she went, and disappeared through the hatch. Lucian now hobbled the couple of steps to the spot below the hatch. He held the cut on his forehead trying to stop the bleeding, but he continued to feel a warm trickle down his right arm. The left hung useless by his side. Wiping again so he could see, he was greeted by more smoke coming from the flight deck. “Lusitan! Now would be a good time, my friend!” he said.
Lusitan’s head appeared in the hatch. “Sorry, Major. Just helping Stadia over the side and getting reinforcements. Lords! You’re a mess. Can you slip this around you?”
“Yeah, I think s—OOOWWW! There. I’ll remember your blunt honesty at your next evaluation. WOAH! Flames are coming out of the flight deck! You think we can continue this outside?”
“On three, guys, one, two, three!”
Lucian felt a sudden pressure, somewhat gentle at first, then growing, and then he was suspended in the air by the rope. He temporarily relaxed his usual opposition to profanity to utter a few pained oaths. Within a few moments, he was pulled through the hatch then pushed toward the side. As the team repositioned him to lower him down, he heard Lusitan say, “Gentle with him!” Evidently, he was the only person who heard. The pain that surged through his body on the next jolt was enough to make him lose consciousness.
Moments later, he felt himself strapped to a gurney on the back of one of the mobile carts. A bandage was on his head, and someone had been kind enough to wipe the blood from his eyes so he could halfway see through the tears welled up in his eyes. As they traveled, the Medic at his side was running some scans, reporting his condition. From what Lucian heard, it didn’t sound exactly life threatening to him, but then again, it didn’t sound all that desirable either. Lucian thought about the size of the Battlestar, and how lucky he was to live there, even at moments like this. No, he corrected, especially at moments like this.
Within centons, they arrived in the Med Lab. Nurse Jarrynn met them at the entrance and steered them to an open station. As she was about to administer a painkiller, Lucian rasped, “Jarrynn, is Stadia okay?”
“Yes, Major, she’ll be fine. The injured guards are back at their posts, and Urdea’s got some more in place, too. Don’t you worry, Lucian.” She gave him the painkiller, and almost immediately, he was asleep.

Jarrynn
Lt Jarrynn just sat there by Lucian's and Stadia's sides. She kept them close together since she knew they would want to see each other when they woke up. Plus it made her job easier to keep an eye on them. She shook her head. Too much pain lately. First Najinn, then the frodians, then Stadia, then the loss of Brie and Amy, now Stadia and Lucian. Too much pain. Where was the joy in life? She knew she became a nurse to help releave pain but here lately it seemed like it was too much. Too much for her to repair. Her little morale officer jumped in her lap. A little meow got her attention. She petted his furry head, getting a head butt to her face from him. She tried to smile. "I wish all this could be fixed by your fuzzy head butts Furrybdis, but not this time. But thank you for trying." She got a purr from him and she noticed that Stadia was tossing and moaning in her sleep. Jarrynn gave her some more pain killers and Furrybdis looked on in interest. He put a paw on her bed and looked at Jarrynn. "Go ahead. See if your magick works on her. Chase her demons and pain away. But let me know if she needs me." She swore Furrybdis knew what she was saying and it looked like he winked. She went back and checked on Lucian. It looked like he was resting peacefully for now. There she sat between her two patients.
