"Did I say something funny ma'am?"
Brie grinned. "No, it's just that you're full of assumptions. First of all, you're assuming that those carriers had babies in them, and that those children are indeed mine. You're also assuming that I'm sealed. Well, you're right about the children, they ARE mine and they're indeed a blessing. As far as my husband is concerned, he WAS a warrior. I'm a widow." Brie left out that Turner had died yahrens earlier, and felt that there was no reason whatsoever to tell the new lieutenant that the children were the result of a mistake with the CO of Black Squadron.
"I'm sorry," Plwel said, slightly embarrassed.
"No need to be," Brie said. "We'll all die eventually. Or at least most people will. I always seem to come back from the dead. Even after everyone has given up on me." Brie glanced quickly in Skyler's direction. "But speaking of assumptions…I can probably safely assume that you don't watch a while lot of IFB. If you did, you'd have known who I am. I was on there a lot, a couple of yahrens ago. Believe me, it wasn't by choice. But we don't have to go into that right now. Any idea what this meeting is about? I've been out of the loop." She glanced at Skyler again. "Being dead and all that."

Having sat down she glanced from side to side, at those already assembled in the conference room. She saw her wingman, Logan speaking with others up at the front. One seemed to look like a Colonel, but not from the Callisto, so her thoughts lead her to conclude that it must Colonel Starbuck from the Galactica. She searched to see if Commander Apollo was present as well, but there seemed to be no sign of him yet. She turned back to see where Captain Troy was, but he had temporarily left here and was just making his way over to join the group at the front of the room. He seemed to be asking Colonel Starbuck an intense question.
She stared at him for a centon before remembering that she had to speak with Logan. She hadn't had a chance to ask anyone about the odd characters she had seen on the Callisto since this morning. Maybe Logan knew about them, and if so, then perhaps she was just being over suspicious. If they were aboard the Callisto for perfectly legitimate reasons, then everything should be above board. Unless they were here for another purpose. Persephone took a deep breathe. Just then Major Brie entered the room. Persephone joined in with everyone else in greeting her and shook her hand after others had done the same.
After pleasentries with her former Major, Persephone walked up to the group where Logan was.
"Captain Logan, could I speak with you for a centon before the briefing begins?"

Skyler had turned his attention away from Starbuck and Logan’s conversation, since he knew from past experience the felgercarb was going to get deep before they finished and tried to focus on the new arrival to the room. With all the other conversations taking place in the room while they waited for the briefing to start, he couldn’t hear every word, frack, he couldn’t hear most of what they were saying but Brie was talking to Plwel and she kept glancing at him, like she didn’t want him to hear what she was saying. He leaned closer….
“he WAS a warrior. I'm a widow”
I'm sorry," Plwel said, slightly embarrassed.
The words cut to the bone…. He hadn’t given up, but he hadn’t been given a choice in it either. He wanted to tell her, but it wasn’t the right time or place to do so. After the meeting, alone, if he could get her alone…

There was lot of chatter in the conference room. Warriors were together in groups of twos and threes, heads bent together, nervous energy over an upcoming briefing causing them to speculate on what was going on.
Logan noticed that Skyler had moved off to the side. He was watching Brie, who had just entered and was talking animatedly with a new lieutenant. Almost too animatedly considering her previous disposition on returning to the Callisto. Skyler's body language said he thought so too.
Starbuck had begun a conversation with an unknown officer. She assumed he was also from the Galactica. Upon surveying the room, she noticed several Galactica Warriors were present. Which told Logan that Apollo probably intended to make this a joint mission. It made sense. This mission would be too important to have only one battlestar involved.
Logan shifted her weight and bit her lip. Her hand rested on her blaster casually. She saw Hush enter and nodded at him in greeting. They hadn't talked much since the probe craft had been found and whatever spark she had thought may have been between them seemed to have paled for now. She considered the circumstances of their previous mission and wondered, not for the first time, if what she had thought passed between them was a result of the intense circumstances they had been put in. It wasn't unheard of.
She filed that away as a matter to deal with later on. She couldn't deny feeling attracted to the quiet lieutenant, but thought maybe it wasn't reciprocal. Logan knew she had a brusque manner at times, a protection mechanism she had used in the past when unwanted attention had come her way. Skyler and Brik had both lectured her on making that stance a habit. She knew they were right. It was just easier to think of herself as a Warrior first and a woman second. Less complications.
She was broken from her reverie by the voice of Lt. Persephone. "Captain Logan, could I speak with you for a centon before the briefing begins?"
"Of course, " she replied.

"Any idea what this meeting is about? I've been out of the loop." She glanced at Skyler again. "Being dead and all that."..........
Lt Plwel went on to brief Maj Brie on all the information he had regarding the missing warriors, the time travel situations and ramifications, the two Kaltens and Koll as he was briefed by Maj Skyler and from the various conversations he had been privy to. As he rambled on about what he knew, Plwel's eye was drawn to Capt Logan who was standing by herself looking over the crowd of officers and warriors. Plwel had not formally met the Captain yet, but had seen her a few times in passing through the ship. "I have go to remember to also invite Capt. Logan to the Officer's Club for a drink to celebrate my promotion. I don't think she was present when i made the announcment."
"Lieutenent......Lt. Plwel..........LT. PLWEL!" "Maj Brie said as she snapped her fingers in front of Plwels face to get his attention. "Can you wait and ask her AFTER you finish briefing me? I wouild also appreciate it if you look at ME when you are talking to ME." Bouri quickly snapped his head back lokking at the superior officer he was talking to. "I am so sorry ma'am.....I didn't mean to get off track like that." Plwel could not believe he said out loud what he was thinking like that to Maj. Brie. What a bad 1st impression.... "Let me continue ma'am please.....it won't happen again...I promise." "No problem Lt." Brie said with a humerous tone.."We all get distracted from time-to-time....please continue." Plwel went on to finish back briefing Brie on the current situation........

Brie could tell that Skyler was trying to listen to her conversation with the new lieutenant, and she was enjoying every micron of it. She knew that Skyler hadn't given up on her, that he would have searched for yahrens if he had been allowed, but it didn't matter. She also knew that more than anything, he would want to try to explain things to her. He'd probably try to get her alone before the mission, whatever the mission was. At times he was so predictable. None of it mattered, none of it would change anything.
She listened with interest to Plwel's unofficial briefing. She glanced around the room, given the number of high-ranking officials there she had a horrible feeling as to what they were thinking of doing. In her opinion, it was a BAD idea.
Brie noticed someone else entering the room, Major Lazant. He was being led through the door, and was wearing dark glasses. Brie had no idea how much Lazant's vision had improved, or if it had even returned. One thing she DID know, there so no love lost between Lazant and Skyler.
"Please excuse me, Lieutenant," Brie said. "Thanks for the rundown, and congratulations on the promotion." Purposely not looking at Skyler (but sure that he was watching), Brie walked over to where Lazant had just taken a seat.

Logan and Persephone moved over to the side of the others a little more out of earshot, so they could speak.
Persephone looked at Logan with a serious countenance. "Um..this may sound a little strange Captain, but I've noticed about three workers onboard today, who are not the usual that we see on the Callisto".
"What do you mean Lieutenant?", Logan's eyes slightly squinted at her.
"I mean, I've seen two hangar crewmen, and a cleaning lady who may or may not be here by proper clearence". She leaned in toward Logan closer to tell her exactly what and who she had seen on her rounds this morning on the ship. She spoke clearly but softly to her wingman, Logan listened intently, the captain's eyes widened subtlely with a kind of disbelief, as Persephone finished passing on the information.
The lieutenant stepped back and watched for Logan's reactions and words, after saying to her, "I know, it's pretty unusual isn't it? What do you think Logan?"

"Colonel, could I have a word with you?", Troy asked Starbuck as the young Captain moved from behind the group to the front of the Colonel. "Hey, Troy, sure, ahh, what's up, Captian?"
"Do you know if my father has arrived in the conference room yet? There's so many warriors here, you could practically walk on a sea of people".
"Yeah, I know, haven't seen an assembly like this since the destruction of our colonies...ironic that sounds now". "What do you mean?",Troy querried, not quite sure what Starbuck meant.
"Well, it's all about to be revealed soon. You'll see what I mean...", he nodded at Troy. "As for the Commander, I'm sure he'll be here any centon, we want to get this meeting underway immediately."
Just then Starbuck happened to glance over to where Logan and Persephone were standing in mid conversation, and had to look again. Troy noticed the direction of Starbucks's gaze, and realised, he must have spotted Persephone for the first time. "By all that's holy..."Starbuck muttered, trying not to let his mouth gape too noticeably. "You've seen her haven't you?", asked Troy. The Colonel glanced at Troy, "Seen her, yes...31 yahrens ago...and now I feel like I have just seen a ghost of her".
"That's Lieutenant Persephone. I've met her already this morning and nearly fell over, just like you almost did".
"She looks like an appirition of your mother, Boxy!", Starbuck was so suprised by Persephone's likeness to that of Serina, he slipped back to calling Troy by his baby name. "

"Can this day get any weirder?", Logan muttered, more to herself than Persephone.
"Captain?" Persephone inquired.
Logan laid a reassuring hand on the lieutenant's arm. "I have had a strange feeling of being watched at times today. Maybe this was why." She shook her head and had to capture a stray hair that had come loose from the knot at her neck. Tucking it back in to the tie at the nape, she looked at Persephone closely. "I'm not trying to second guess you, Persephone, but are you sure about this?"
Persephone thought before answering. "Yes."
"Alright. I'll have a look into it after the briefing if there's time. I'll talk to you more about this then." She started to leave, but stopped short as she thought of something. "Oh, and Persephone, I heard about Ensign Triton. I'm sorry."
Relationships among personnel were bound to happen. Sometimes they worked out. Sometimes not. Logan's eyes were drawn to Brie and Skyler briefly, before returning to Persephone. She saw sadness there, and regret.
"Thank you," Persephone said softly.

"Hey, stranger," Brie said as she approached Lazant.
"Brie!" Lazant smiled broader than most people had thought that he was capable of. "I'd heard that you hadn't died again. Welcome back."
"Thanks." She bent down to give Lazant a hug, then stayed kneeling on his level. "So what's up with you? How's your vision?"
"It's improving," he said. "I'm still legally blind, but I can see light, in fact a little bit TOO well, hence the glasses. Everything is one big blob at the moment. I'm scheduled for at least one more surgery, the doctors are optimistic. It just takes time. And before you ask, no, I'm not blaming your friend Skyler anymore."
"That makes one of us," Brie mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Nothing," Brie said. "Did you hear my news? I have twin girls. They're going to love their 'Uncle' Lazant. You spend a little bit of time with them, and maybe you'll lose some of that rough exterior that you try so hard to project."
"Like that will ever happen," Lazant said. "But I'd love to meet your daughters. So, now that you have a reason to want to settle down, are you still interested in taking over the Callisto Training Academy? I've been doing some work in an advisory capacity, but I need to concentrate on my own health. And Lieutenant Flell, well, he's been trying, but he's a bit overwhelmed. If you still want it, I'll make sure it happens."
"Definitely." Brie grinned. "See, you're losing some of that rough exterior already."
"Only for my friends, Brie, and I have very few of those. By choice."
