"Enough about me. Let's talk about the real reason that I wanted to address the fleet."
"Do tell, Major," Roxzanna-Rizou said. She moved the microphone closer to Brie's face.
"It's quite simple, really," Brie said. "We have picked up Cylons in the system, and since the battlestars have chosen to leave us, the fleet is for the most part unprotected. We're leaving the system, beginning immediately. In fact, it's already begun. Some the the ships have already made the jump."
Roxzanna-Rizou gasped slightly. "If we're leaving the system, how with the battlestars know how to find the fleet?"
"Permanently losing the battlestars is a chance that we're going to have to take," Brie said. "If we stay here, there will be no fleet for them to find. Since they've been gone so long we can only assume that something went wrong. My first priority is to protect what is left of our people, and that is what I plan on doing. Once we get to the next system we'll weigh our options, but I think that an unprotected search for a planet that doesn't exist is out of the question. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Obviously time is of the essence."
"Of course". Roxzanna-Rizou looked directly into the camera. "Wrapping things up, the fleet is about to make an unscheduled jump. This is Roxzanna-Rizou, returning you to your regular program."
When the broadcast was over Roxzanna-Rizou thanked Brie and left.
A warrior who had been standing in the back approached Brie. "Excuse me, Major, but I was told to report to you." He held out his hand. "I'm Lieutenant Ange."
Brie shook his hand. "Nice to see that they left us a few warriors. It's good to meet you, Lieutenant."

Brie shook his hand. "Nice to see that they left us a few warriors. It's good to meet you, Lieutenant. Follow me." She and Ange walked toward the small war room on the side of the of the Intimidator's bridge. He was older than Brie, and appeared to be in excellent physical health. She pointed to a map of the fleet. "What I need is someone who can lead a small patrol of vipers toward the back of the fleet. We need to keep the Cylons as far away as possible while the ships are trying to leave the system." Brie paused. "There are obvious risks, so I'm asking for volunteers, not ordering anyone."
"I understand the risks, Ma'am," Ange replied. "I swore to give my life to protect the fleet, and I realize that that very well could be what's about to happen."
"You're a brave man," Brie took something out of a box and pinned it to Ange's collar.. "CAPTAIN Ange."

Brie started to walk toward the door with the new captain when something happened. It wasn't anything that anyone noticed, another blip.
"We're live in five, four, three, two…"

Roxzanna-Rizou brushed her hair out of her face as the camera went on. "We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for an impromptu announcement called by Colonel Brie, who has been left in charge of the fleet in the absence of the battlestars. Colonel, the floor is yours."
Brie straightened her blue bridge uniform. "Thank you. We have picked up Cylons in the system and since the battlestars have chosen to leave us, the fleet is for the most part unprotected. We're leaving the system, beginning immediately. In fact, it's already begun. Some of the ships have already made the jump."
Roxzanna-Rizou looked behind Brie as she asked the next question. "If we're leaving the system, how will the battlestars know how to find the fleet?"
"Permanently losing the battlestars is a chance that we're going to have to take," Brie said. "If we stay here, there will be no fleet for them to find. Brie glanced at a man that was standing near her and smiled slightly. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Obviously time is of the essence."
"One more thing". Roxzanna-Rizou looked directly past Brie at the man who was standing behind her and smiled. "How is your new husband adjusting to your recent promotion? You are newlyweds, after all."
"You'll have to ask him yourself," Brie replied.
"I think I'll do that," Roxzanna-Rizou said. She walked away from Brie and with the mic in her hand. "Excuse me, Sir, your wife just told me that I should find out how you're dealing with her being left in charge of the fleet."
Brie's husband turned around and smiled. "I couldn't be more proud. The fleet in is very good hands. I stand behind her 100%, and will also offer all the guidance and support that she might need."
"Thank you," Roxzanna-Rizou said, "Chief Opposer Pierce."

Pierce gently took Brie by the arm and pulled her over to the side. "I just wanted to let you know that the Quorum meeting is set for as soon as the fleet is out of the system."
"Don't worry, my love," Brie replied. "We'll be out of here soon, and then with that fool Apollo and his vote gone you'll have no problem being elected the new President."
Pierce ran a finger down Brie's cheek. "And you'll be the official commander of the fleet. Everything is going according to plan, my pet."

Brie moved closer to Pierce. They had not been sealed long, it had been a quick and very passionate courtship. "You're going to get everything that you deserve, my love." She glanced around quickly to make sure that no one was looking, and started to move in for a kiss.
"We're live in five, four, three, two…"

Roxzanna-Rizou brushed some hair out of her eyes before she started. "Tell me, Major, just what are your plans for the fleet?"
"We're moving out of the system," Turner replied. "My wife, Major Brie, has been in contact with the pilots of all the ships in the fleet, they know the schedule for the jump. There is a small group of vipers that are currently at the back of the fleet, doing their best to hold things off. They are a very brave group and will land on the last ship to make the jump...if any of them are still alive."
"If we're leaving the system then the battlestars won't know where to find us." Roxzanna-Rizou said it more as a statement than a question.
Brie stepped slightly forward. "The battlestars have left us unprotected, and there are Cylons in the area. We have to leave immediately, or else the human race is lost. As it is I think that we need to assume that the trip back in time was a failure and that the battlestars didn't make it. We need to move forward, to the future, not into the past. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have preparations to make and not a lot of time in which to make them."
"I understand." She brushed hair out of her eyes again and turned to directly face the camera. "You heard it here, we're about to make an unscheduled jump out of the system. This is Roxzanna-Rizou, reporting from the Intimidator."

Once the short interview was over and Roxzanna-Rizou had left Brie turned towards her husband. "You do realize what we have to do."
Turner nodded. "And quickly. Do you want to make the announcement or should I?"
Brie smiled a playful grin. "I was the one officially left in charge, not you. I'll take care of it." She gently brushed across Turner's arm as she walked away. After all their yahrens together they were more in love than ever.

Two centars later all but essential personnel had been shipped off of the Intimidator. The hardest part was saying goodbye to Caden, Brie and Turner's fourteen yahren old son. Brie had few regrets from her life, knowing that she would not see Caden grow into a fine warrior was suddenly one of them. Her other major regret was that her daughter that she gave up at birth, Amy, would never know her true parentage.
After the Intimidator had been left with just a skeleton crew the ship was moved to the back of the fleet. The plan was simple; the fleet would make the jump and then at the last moment the Intimidator would jump to a different location. The plan depended upon the Cylon baseship seeing the Intimidator and following them. The jump points were close, the plan should work. The downside was of course that the Intimidator would soon be light yahrens away from the fleet, if they even survived.

Timing was everything, and both Brie and Turner realized that. They waited until the last ship in the fleet had made the jump and then Brie gave the signal. The Intimidator veered slightly, and it was obvious that the baseship was about to follow. Brie and Turner held hands as they started the jump, hoping that the cloaking device that that geek Chip had been fiddling with actually worked.
