Imagining where our character is, a yahren later.... Supposing the story had continued over the last year, where might your character be now?
* * * Captain Amy looked out from the observation deck at the formation of vipers as they passed beneath her into the landing bay. She sighed, knowing that it would be a while before Charybdis would be finished with the debriefing of the pilots. She missed being out there, pushing at the ends of the galaxy, trying to help find a home for the fleet, perhaps even Earth, but she knew that her flying days were quite probably finished.
She felt the baby kick, and smiled for a moment then grew solemn. She hadn't wanted to bring a child into a world that had no home but a fleet of rag-tag ships to live in, but for humanity to survive there had to be a next generation. Understanding this, she promised that her child would know the feel of grass beneath her feet and the sky shining bright above. Captain Amy may never fly again, but she would help fulfill this promise any way she possibly could....

Brie sat up quietly in her bed on the Intimidator. That was about all that she was allowed to do. She could keep an eye on what was going on, after all the command was hers, but there wasn't much for her to do. Her crew was the best, they didn't need someone to boss them around.
Turner poked his head in the door. "How are you feeling today?"
"Great," Brie lied.
"Um-hum. I wish we had a doctor or even a med tech with us."
Brie sighed. "I'm glad we don't. At least we know that we got as many people back to the fleet as possible. They need the doctors more than I do. How's the retrieval going?"
Turner smiled. He knew Brie better than anyone, she was trying to steer away from a conversation that they had often. "Same. It's slow but everyone is working to get enough fuel to get us off of this planet."
"It's too bad that the fleet isn't here," Brie said. "This would be a good place to settle." The planet that the Intimidator had landed on was close to perfect. There was plenty of food, the temperature was comfortable and the air clean and clear. It was paradise, except for the fact that there was little fuel and it was lightyahrens away from the fleet.
"Caden's fine," Turner said. "Another yahren older and more handsome I'm sure."
"I bet he's trying to talk them into early entry for the Academy." Brie paused. "When we do find the fleet he's going to be in for a big surprise."
"That he is." Turner placed a hand gently on Brie's stomach. "How's our little one?"
"Active. I think she's going to be a triad player."
"She? Yesterday you said we were having a boy!"
"Maybe we're having twins." Brie grinned. "Wouldn't that be crazy?" Brie's pregnancy came as quite a surprise to everyone on the Intimidator. Not only was her age a problem but she was also extremely sick whenever she tried to do anything, which was why she was bedridden. One member of the skeleton crew had studied to become an assistant medical technician, she was now handling the pregnancy. They were hardly in an ideal situation but at least they were safe from the Cylons.
"I'll take whatever the Lords of Kobol decide to give us." Turner sat down next to his wife. "You're thinking about Amy, aren't you." It wasn't a question.
"I'll always regret not telling her that I'm her biological mother. I don't want to ruin her world, but I know that she felt the connection between us, I wish that she knew what it was. She has no idea that Caden is her little brother, or that..." Brie placed a hand on her stomach. "She also doesn't know that she's a child of rape, or that she's been lied to her entire life."
Turner placed his hand next to Brie's. "She and Charybdis had gotten pretty close. Maybe they've taken the seal by now."
Brie rolled her eyes. "Oh please, Turner. I wouldn't wish Charybdis on anyone!"

Another friend, another memory… Skyler looked over the old Squadron Holo-Image on his wall.. There were so many faces on it he would never see again. Brave Warriors taken before their time, some before he had really gotten the chance to know these people. While it was bad, he sometimes wished they all had been like that. A face in a holo-image, just another Warrior to be mourned, no close connections to bind and tear at the heart….. Not this time, this time it was a good friend, a true brother, not in the sense of Warriors that serve together are all part of the unspoken brotherhood of shared danger, no, Lt. Ike was in a small group of close friends that Skyler considered family. Brik, Logan, Wraith and Thunderhawk rounded out that list, and then there was Brie, who held a most special place in his heart, Brothers (and sister) in arms, but more, family, not blood relations, but true family. In this Fleet, both were in short supply, and losing one cut deep. Ike wasn’t one for a big to do on his part and at his request, no services were held. His close friends gathered on the Rising Star with is wife and shared memories of happier times, fun times. Like the time they found a desert planet and Ike nicknamed it after a planet in one of his favorite holo-movies. It didn’t have the twin suns, but it had plenty of sand, or how he spent his spare time working to make the children in the fleet a little happier, like dressing in costumes from his favorite holo-movie and visiting them when they were sick, since most kids loved the same holo-movies also. They talked about his huge heart and how he would do anything for a friend. Mainly it was the little moments, the times were it was just a in joke, or a few microns of bonding they shared, nothing huge, nothing extra ordinary, just Ike being the huge hearted man that tried to comfort the world. As he scanned the faces his eyes lingered on Amy for a few microns, and the pending birth of her child… When the Lords take one life, they provide another. It will be joyous to have a baby around to spoil. Even the hardest grizzled Warrior melted at the sight of little ones. They were the reason they continued to pull on their boots in the morning. He thought of how Ike would have loved to see the new baby but never would and his heart hurt all the more.
Skyler looked away from the holo-image and glanced back at Caden’s sleeping compartment. To many in this Fleet were without family and he prayed one day they would all be reunited and find a place to call home other than a hunk of metal floating across space.. but it was better than no place at all…..

[[These are all good. If nothing else caught me up on how things ended.
The Holo-movie aspect is an interesting point. Would be interesting if the fleet knew they were close and were receiving Earth transmissions. They could add the Batman TV series from the 60's (like on Space, Above and Beyond) or return the first runs of Star Trek. Wonder what the colonials would think of Star Trek and the Twilight Zone?]]

Note: I'm posting this here because it doesn't have anything to do with what you guys are currently doing. Awesome story, BTW! I finally had a chance to read it and I realized how much I miss this place.
**
Brie woke with a start and sat straight up in bed. Turner rolled over and looked up at her. “You okay?” he asked with a yawn.
“Yeah,” Brie replied. “I just had a really silly dream, that's all.”
Turner sat up, suddenly interested. “Did it have anything to do with me?”
Brie grinned. “Of course it did. I said that it was silly, didn't I?” She paused. “I was pregnant again. Me, at my age. Can you imagine what a disaster that would be? Especially here on this stupid planet, with no proper medical staff.”
“You were probably thinking about Caden before you fell asleep,” Turner said. “That's why you dreamed about having a baby.”
“That was part of it, I'm sure. I'm always thinking about Caden. I miss that kid so much.” Brie sighed.
“If Caden was part of it, what was the rest?” Turner knew what was coming.
“Amy's been on my mind a lot lately.”
Turner took his wife's hand. “Would you tell her if you could?”
Brie thought for several microns. It was a question that she wrestled with quite a bit. “No. It would turn her life upside down. When her parents agreed to the adoption I promised that I would never tell anyone. I broke that promise with you, but I can't with her.”
“When you made that promise you never knew that the two of you would become close,” Turner said matter-of-factly.
“I certainly never thought that she'd fall for one of our best friends, or become a warrior in my squadron! No, she'd be too hurt if she ever found out.” Brie sighed again. “I don't know why I'm even thinking of this. We're light-yahrens away from the fleet, we don't yet have enough fuel to get off this planet, and once we have the fuel if the fleet changed course we'll never find them.”
Turner looked deep into Brie's eyes. “We'll have the fuel soon enough, and then we're out of here. We'll find them. Let's go back to sleep.” He lied back down.
“Okay.” Brie cuddled with her husband and closed her eyes, hoping that she wouldn't have any more dreams about Caden, Amy, and babies.
