"Blackshirt" Amy repeated as she studied her hand, put down two cards doing nothing for her and picking up two. "I always hated hearing that term."
She took a sip from her mug. "So you sort of followed in your father's footsteps?" She asked, looking at two new cards that were worse than the ones she set down. "I wish I'd had that. I just wasn't cut out to be a farmer, much to my parents disappointment. I was so different from them I'd wonder sometimes if they really were my parents. Turns out that they weren't. I really don't know who my parents are, or were."
She held out a hand toward Edan. "Congrats on becoming a lieutenant!" she smiled. Still smiling she glanced at Plwel, and took another sip from her mug.
"I heard there was a patrol being set up before the mission tomorrow. You guys hear anything about that?"

"I heard there was a patrol being set up before the mission tomorrow. You guys hear anything about that?"
Lt. Plwel had been sitting there staring at his cards listing to Capt Amy and Lt. Edan talk. When Capt. Amy mentioned about the upcoming patrol, Plwel lowered his hand and looked directly at her for a centon. Bouri was reluctant to tell Amy his “story”. He sat there wondering how much she already knew about his past as it was……the family he thought he had that turned out to not really be his family…..the fact that Plwel really didn’t know anymore who he truly was and what he life on the colony of Virgon was as a child and the background of his real family….whoever they were. Did she know about his failed relationship with Capt. Logan or the attempt on his life by the sabotage of his Viper that almost killed him? Did she know already that he was just recently re-instated after being grounded for so long during his counseling and treatment? What would she think of him if she did know? Plwel began to speak…
“Well Capt. Amy, I don’t think I have a story anymore…I have recently learned I was orphaned as a small child on the colony of Virgon and was raised by a political family whose name I adopted before the holocaust. After fleeing the colonies, I was able to secure a post as a shuttle pilot for the Rising Star for a while until I applied for colonial duty as a warrior and was selected for Viper training aboard the Galactica. Upon academy graduation, I was assigned to the Callisto and have been assigned to Gold Squadron ever since.” Plwel stopped and thought for a moment….he looked back at Capt. Amy and spoke again......”That was almost a yarhen and a half ago when I stepped aboard this Battlestar for the first time.” Lt. Plwel couldn’t believe how fast the time had gone by. Plwel continued….
“ As for the patrol? Well that patrol is actually for me……kind of a “Back in the saddle again” refresher for me.” Plwel continued…” I don’t know how much you have been told, but I have just recently be reinstated to active duty after an extended convalescent leave after a severe Viper accident and other personal matters. Edan and I were planning to do a short range patrol in the morning to just work the kinks out of live flying from all the simulator time I have logged maintaining my flight certification.” Lt. Plwel felt a little embarrassed saying this to Capt. Amy….a person he really didn’t know all that well, but if he was going to invite her to fly with them, then Plwel felt he owed it to her to have her understand exactly who she was going to be flying with. Plwel continued….
“Captain, you are welcome to join us on this patrol if your schedule will allow. It will actually allow us to run through some different formations and maneuvers. Would you consider joining us? If I haven’t scared you away already that is……Plwel grabbed his mug and took a drink as Capt. Amy sat there staring at him. Plwel and Edan awaited her response…..

Edan remained silent as his friend told his story. It wasn't his place or his story to tell, but Plwel told it honestly and if not easily, definatley emotionally. Edan was happy that Plwel extended the offer for the Captain to join them.
It was good, personally, to hear the Captain say she disliked the term Blackshirt. It was a military civilian thing, of course. but it was always there. Like most of the Council Security officers that Edan had gone up in the ranks with, they had accepted the term and embraced it. their jumpsuits were indeed black. As was the the vests they wore. Outside the Galactica, all enforcement was done by Council Security. yes, some ships, such as the Celestra had their own Security officers, but the bulk of the fleet relied on the Blackshirts. No, no matter how much at home Edan was with his current position of being a Warrior, he'd never regret or think poorly of his time protecting the fleet one person at a time.

Captain Amy felt for Plwel as he told his story. It was obviously difficult for him, and it must have been hard for him to decide how much he should tell someone he didn't know much at all, yet was obligated to because of her rank.
Amy put a hand lightly on his arm. "Truth be told" she began, "I've had some issues off and on too. It might have been smarter for me to have just stayed on the agro ship, digging in the dirt until I hit the bottom hull."
She took a drink, then continued. "But that wasn't me. And I'm sure it isn't you either. We all strive to find meaning in our lives, and that's what's important. Not the stumbles and falls along the way, but how we get back up and keep going. I also learned I was an orphan, but it only confirmed what I suspected all along. I like to think that the way I've led my life is a reflection of who my real parents were, and maybe that's the case with you too. By doing the things we do, we are somehow closer to their spirit."
She pulled back her arm, and smiled sheepishly at the both of them. "I'm sorry if I said too much" she said. "I'd be honored to go on patrol with you both. I'm a little rusty too. It's been a while since I've seen the inside of a viper, and the Colonel did say to check one out."
She looked down at her cards, the hand seeming to loose it's importance. What was gaining in importance was how much she missed her life as a warrior, something she hadn't thought of since she'd married Charybdis and given birth to Kay. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to be where she was, a feeling that was both scary and exciting....

Plwel looked down at his timepiece and saw that there was only 7 centars remaining until launch. Bouri still had to make contact with the launch bay to be assigned his new Viper and crew chief not to mention conduct his preflight inspection and run his checklists. Lt Plwel stood up from his seat and began to speak....
"Captain, Lieutenant....If you will excuse me, I will collect my cubits while I'm still ahead and make my way to the barracks to collect my gear and head to the flight deck to start my preflight. I know there are several centars until launch, but I want to make sure I do a thorough pre-flight.....plus....I need to be issued a new helmet from the quartermaster. I will see you both on the flight deck for pre launch. Who will be filing our flight plan with the bridge? You Captain?" As the senior officer, if she was joining the patrol, it would be appropriate for her to submit the flight plan to Col Charybdis and operations for approval. Lt. Plwel waited for her response.

Lt. Plwel rising from his chair helped Captain Amy to focus back on the present. She hadn't dwelled much on the warrior life she'd left behind, and she hadn't even visited the O-Club since she had been sealed to Charybdis. But being back here, playing cards and absorbing the atmosphere, it had been nearly too much to handle with so many memories and feelings coming back to her.
"Who will be filing our flight plan with the bridge? You Captain?" Plwel had asked.
"Uh... yes" Amy replied, folding her hand and putting it on the table. "I need to see Charybdis anyway, so I'll submit it and see you on the flight deck." She looked at Edan. "I'll see both of you there."
She was in the moment now, totally. Rising, she thanked them both for letting her sit in, then smoothing back her hair with one hand she quickly exited the O-Club. There was so much to do and so little time! She headed for medlab to check on her daughter, then she needed to find Charybdis....

(Just a note to say I'm sorry for not moving the storyline ahead with the mission at hand. I guess Christmas and all the holiday stuff got in the way. Now that we are back in the routine of the new year, I will try to get back to the story and provide some sort of basic narration, but feel free to get things going if I don't! That's part of the fun of all this)
NOw back to the story..

(I might have been wrong about this... I enjoyed the character moments in the O-Club, but how did everyone else feel? I like the slow pace cause I'm not here regularly though I try for at least once a week. We can jump right to the mission if that's what we all want to do.
I missed this more that I thought I would and I'm glad to see this mini-revival happening! I'm with you however we decide to proceed...)

After leaving the Officer’s Club, Lt. Plwel made his way through the corridors of the Callisto until he made it to the Gold Squadron barracks. He went to his bunk and opened his locker to see his uniforms neatly hung and spaced according to Col Charybdis’ preferences as noted during surprise inspections. Bouri was understandably nervous about launching in a few centars after not being in an actual Viper for so long. Part of him was hoping he would run in to Capt Logan on the flight deck for encouragement before the flight…..but it was likely she would not be there. Plwel was grateful for the fact that Edan and Capt Amy would be with him just until he got all the rusty bugs worked out again.
After changing into his pressure suit and clean uniform and gathering a few things from his locker, Plwel made his way out of the barracks towards equipment issue to draw a new flight helmet. His original one was confiscated after the accident for inspection and he had not received it back. As Lt. Plwel waking through the door in to the Gold Squadron equipment room, the Supply Sergeant, Flight Sergeant Desmond was at the counter and addressed the warrior as he approached the desk. “Hello Lt. Plwel, is there anything I can do for you today sir?” Plwel replied..”Yes….you should have received authorization from Maj Skyler to issue me a new Viper flight helmet. I am here to pick it up.” “Yes sir!” The Flight Sergeant replied..”I have it right here waiting for you. It is brand new and never used except for testing.” Lt. Plwel took the helmet from Sergeant Desmond and inspected it closely for any damage or faults. Upon completion of inspection, Plwel looked at Desmond and said...”Yes….this is perfect Sergeant Desmond….Thank you.” “You’re welcome Lieutenant….and welcome back to Gold Squadron sir. Best of luck to you on your patrol.” Desmond replied. Lt. Plwel smiled and nodded his head at Desmond in appreciation and proceeded to leave the equipment issue room to start down to the flight deck to be assigned his Viper and begin his preflight. Plwel really felt ready now and truly felt a part of Gold Squadron again as he walked the corridors. As he walked many of Plwel’s squadron members and friends smiled at him in approval and well wishing for his return to duty. It gave Bouri strength and encouragement as he made his way towards the lift going down to the launch bay….

I still could not believe it, but another 7 yahrens have passed us by and we are still on our search for Earth. Clues have become rather scarce and I'm beginning to believe that we will never find that planet.
Perhaps what would be best is for us to find a suitable system and settle down. There has been no Cylon activity for yahrens now, I guess they just gave up on us after coming so far.
None of us are getting any younger, and the population has dwindled. The birth rate has slowed and we are not replacing ourselves in this next generation. I feel that for the sake of humanity and what's left of it, we must find a suitable place to live and begin civilization again...
