As Justin sat down Brie tried to figure out exactly what she wanted to say. “I was trying to tell you before, back on the Agro Ship, but I guess I passed out instead. Now that Pierce is dead, I can tell you the truth.”
Justin looked confused. “What does Pierce have to do with anything? I thought you were upset because I didn’t testify at your Tribunal.”
“I didn’t want you to testify,” Brie told him. “And it wouldn’t have made any difference anyway. The whole Tribunal was fixed.”
“Fixed?” Justin repeated.
Brie nodded. “Yeah, they faked the whole thing, trying to catch Pierce. They knew he was up to something. Commander Apollo just told me. I’m Gold Squadron CO once again.”
“That’s wonderful news,” Justin sincerely remarked.
“But that’s not what I lied about, I didn't know about that myself,” Brie said. “Let me start at the beginning. This wasn’t Pierce’s first attempt at taking over the fleet. Several yahrens ago he had a plan in motion that was supposed to start with the assassination of the President. Turner found out about the plot and anonymously turned them in, at least he thought it was anonymous. No one realized, though, how deep the group went. Two sectons later Turner was killed.” Brie wiped a tear from her eye, barely noticing the number of tubes stuck in her arm. “Immediately following the closing arguments of the Tribunal, before the verdict and before I returned to the brig, Pierce admitted to me that he had arranged for Turner to be killed. He also told me that everything that was happening to me was payback for what he claimed Turner had done to him. The man was full of hatred and revenge. I knew that it wouldn’t stop with me, he would make anyone I cared about pay as well. So I decided right then I would push away everyone who was important to me.” She paused for several microns. “That includes you. I lied, trying to make you think that I didn’t care. But I do. And I’m so sorry, I wish that I didn’t have to hurt you, but it was the only way to get you to leave me alone.”
“Couldn’t you have let me make my own decision?” Justin asked. “I could have dealt with Pierce.”
“The man killed my husband!” Brie said louder than she had been talking before. “I wasn’t going to risk anyone else. No, better for him to pour all his hatred out on me, which he obviously did. But I learned a lot through this whole thing. There are people who stuck by me even though I didn’t know them all that well, and others who I’ve thought for yahrens were my friends who abandoned me.” She waited for a micron, carefully choosing her words. “I’d really like it if you and I could start all over again. Put all this past felgercarb away, and be friends. Do you think that would be possible?” As she waited for Justin’s reply Brie realized that she was nervous.

As Brie was telling me what had happened, I felt bad about the little bit anger I had towards her. Mind you, being threatened with charges didn't help. Then she said something which made me pay attention.
“I’d really like it if you and I could start all over again. Put all this past felgercarb away, and be friends. Do you think that would be possible?”
That blew me away. I really liked her for some reason more than a friend.
"Brie, I know it sounds crazy, but I have feelings toward you. If we have to put what happened behind us, that means putting what happened on the Galactica behind us as well. I don't know if you know it, but i sat here and prayed for you. I even have this." I passed her the piece of paper. "It was supposed to be my resignation letter. If you died, I was going to resign my Commission. I wasn't prepared to fight anymore in an institution that caused the demise of legitimate and honourable warriors. Guess it is only good for the rubbish now."
I paused for a few microns to gather my composure. As for us starting over and being friends. If friends is all I can be to the Great Major Brie. A person who is brave as she is beautiful. Yes, I would honoured to be your friend. If anything else happens, well it is in the hands of the Lords."

“I’m glad you didn’t resign, I’m not worth it.” Brie glanced away, then looked back at Justin. “You and I both know that what took place on the Galactica never should have happened. I don’t regret it though. You helped me through one of the darkest moments of my life, and for that I’ll always be grateful.” She shook her head. “There are just so many changes going on in my life right now. I’ve got a lot to think about. I’ve finally found out what happened to my husband...I’m really not ready for a romantic relationship. I don’t want to put you on hold, and I’m not going to ask you to wait. I’m not saying never, but I am saying not right now. Plus there would be so many obstacles to overcome if we were to become involved.”
“Like what?” Justin asked.
“Off the top of my head,” Brie replied, “I’m a LOT older than you are, we’re both squadron leaders which would make assignments really interesting, and the fact that I gave my heart to a viper pilot once and we both know how that turned out. My being here right now is a direct result. And there are a million other little things.” She smiled. “But with friends age doesn’t matter, friends can be rival squadron leaders, and most of my friends are viper pilots. So see, it works. And along with many of my other friends, once I’m out of here you owe me a drink, for returning safely from the Cylon moon.” She chuckled slightly. “But I think it should be something non-alcoholic.”

Arriving in the Med Lab, Lucian saw Nurse Jarrynn speaking with someone he didn’t know. Moments later, when she was free, he approached, “Hi Lieutenant. How are you?”
She gave him a smile, but he could see the exhaustion in her eyes as she replied, “Very tired, Major. And you?”
“I’ll spare you the full story of my frustration if you can show me where to find Captain Amy.”
Jarrynn looked around toward Lorna, who, having overheard the exchange, shook her head sadly. Looking back at Lucian, Jarrynn said, “Sorry, Sir, but she can’t have visitors at the moment. They’re doing some tests….”
Lucian had guessed that might be the case, but he’d hoped his presence rather than a verbal request by comm might have gotten him in to see her. So much for the privileges of rank!
“I understand,” he said to Jarrynn. “What about Brie? I heard on the way over here that she’s doing much better. May I see her?”
Jarrynn led him to a side room where two Blackshirts stood outside. Lucian approached and returned the men’s salutes. “Officers, I’d like to see former Major Brie if she’s up to it.”
“Sir, she’s a Major again—her rank’s been restored and I believe she’s feeling much better,” said the officer’s name Lucian believed was Enid or Enoch or something similar, “but she’s asked to see Major JustinB. He just went in a couple of centons ago. It could be a while.”
“Please tell her I stopped by. Give her my best and tell her I’ll stop by to see her again later,” said Lucian, hoping that the man would comply. With the way some security officers were, one never knew. “I appreciate your help, Officer En—”
“Enoch, Major. I’ll let her know.”
“Thanks, Officer Enoch,” said Lucian. He left the Med Lab and headed toward the Bridge, wondering what had happened to Fallel. He’d find out later. For now, duty was calling….

The door to Brie’s room opened and Doctor Ellis walked in. “Time for your checkup,” he said to Brie.
“Another one?” Brie asked. “Didn’t we just do this?”
“Sorry, but you’re going to have to get used to it,” the surgeon replied. He addressed JustinB. “Excuse us for a micron, Major,” he said, pulling the curtain closed.
The exam didn’t take too long. “You’re doing remarkably well,” Doctor Ellis told Brie. “We should be able to perform the second surgery in a couple of cycles.”
Brie looked surprised. “What second surgery?”
“Your leg,” Ellis informed her. “That shot you took to your upper left thigh did a lot of damage. The area’s been numbed so you don’t feel any pain. I still don’t see how you were able to continue walking. Then again, if a shattered rib didn’t stop you...it’s a simple procedure, nothing to think twice about, but we need to correct things before they heal too much. We shouldn’t even have to dip into that blood supply that is now full, thanks to you.”
“Thanks to me?” Brie had no idea what he was talking about.
“You depleted our reserves,” Ellis explained, “but we put out the call and several people with the same rare blood type as yours donated. We didn’t need it all, we just used Ange’s and Boleman’s.”
“I have Ange’s blood running through my veins?” Brie said with a shudder. “And Boleman’s?” she added quickly.
Doctor Ellis laughed. “Don’t worry, you’re not going to develop a sudden love for farming OR military law.” He pulled the curtain back. “I’ll let you know about the surgery. Oh, Commander Apollo is going to be on the IFB in a few centons. I wonder what he’s planning on talking about. After his interview, I want you to get some rest.” Doctor Ellis walked out the door but could be seen speaking with Enoch and Jared before he disappeared.

Enoch and Jared stood outside of Brie’s door, trying to position themselves to get a better look at the monitor. It was turned up louder than usual so that everyone would be able to hear. Although not unheard of for the fleet’s commander to be interviewed, it had been awhile. “I wonder what Commander Apollo is planning on talking about,” Jared said.
“I wonder,” Enoch replied sarcastically. “I’m sure it has nothing to with the mutiny attempt or Major Brie finally getting her life back. He probably wants to talk about the upcoming Triad tournament, since he used to be one of the fleet’s champions.”
“Oh shut up,” Jared told his partner. “I meant I wonder how much he’s going to tell them. Do you think he’ll mention our part in protecting Brie?”
“I doubt it,” Enoch said, dropping the attitude. “We’ve worked too hard on our ‘bad’ reputation. And Captain Urdea would be pretty upset as well.”
“You’re right,” Jared said. “There’s going to have to be a lot left out of the story for security reasons.”
“Don’t let me forget to tell Major Brie that Major Lucian stopped by,” Enoch said, changing the subject.
“It’s your information to remember, I didn’t even talk to him.” Jared moved a little to the left, trying to get a better view. He wished they’d just bring in more monitors. “I still can’t believe that about Millie and Tanya.”
“Me either,” Enoch said. “I was just getting friendly enough with Millie to ask her out.”
“Good thing you didn’t,” Jared told his friend. “I heard that Pierce and all the women in his group would...”
“Stop!” Enoch said. “That’s not a picture that I really want in my head!”
“Sorry.” Jared looked at his chrono. “Just a couple more centons. I wish they’d just bring in more monitors!”

Dolet took a deep breath, and let it out quick. "So, can I interest you in a drink or something?"
Logan watched Dolet standing there so nervously and had to hide her grin behind a hand. She hadn't been on the Callisto very long herself, so she could understand Dolet's feelings on being the rookie. She knew his interest went beyond their shared mission on the Agro Ship and she couldn't think of a single reason to turn down his offer. They did have the mission in common, they were both relative newcomers onboard even though in different squadrons, and she had to admit she was intrigued by his shyness. Most of the Warriors she knew had attitude to spare, which wasn't a bad thing, but Dolet's personality was refreshing. It had been a long time since someone had been this nervous about approaching her. It felt good. And she had to admit, his dark hair and blue eyes were very attractive as well. She let him squirm for a micron more, than smiled widely and said, "Why, yes, Dolet, I'd love to. We can discuss the mission in detail if you like." Dolet's eyes lit up and she thought he might jump in the air before he regained his composure and turned, arm extended towards the O Club's doors, "After you." She almost laughed, thinking he was joking, but realized that his gentlemanly approach was sincere. 'Yes, very different, indeed,' she thought to herself as she reentered the O Club with Dolet only a step behind.

"Holy frack" one of the black squadron warriors said with surprise. The others turned to watch as Dolet returned to the O-club with Logan. "Now how do you suppose that happened?"
"Got to be a sympathy drink" one of them offered. They all watched as Dolet and Logan got a table.
"Well it's more than I ever got" the first warrior replied.
"Relax man" the other one said, "maybe the kid just has better moves than you."
The first warrior snorted. "If that's the case, then a secton of short-sheeted beds will even the score."
"That won't even the score."
"I know" he said as he turned back to his drink after taking one last look at Logan, "But it will make me feel better. A little, anyway."
"You dared him to go after her" the second warrior reminded him.
"Shut up and drink, will you?"

After Doctor Ellis left Justin stood up. "I'll try to stop by later," he said.
"No, please stay!" Brie said without thinking. She was surprised at herself. "The Commander's interview is going to be on in a few microns, and we're probably both going to be mentioned in it."
"Okay," Justin said was a small smile. He turned on the IFB monitor and sat down once again.

The door to Brie’s room opened and Officer Enoch poked his head in. “Major, I just wanted to let you know that Major Lucian stopped by earlier.”
“Thank you,” Brie replied. She couldn’t help but notice Enoch glancing at the IFB monitor. “Do you two want to watch the Commander’s interview in here?” She noticed that Justin stared at her with a slight look of disapproval.
“We’re supposed to be guarding the door,” Enoch replied.
“Guarding the door, or guarding me?” Brie asked.
“Well...”
“The way I figure it,” Brie started, “if someone is going to try to kill me, during the interview, which most of the fleet should be watching, would be a good time, so you guys better stick close. So come on in and watch it.”
“Are you sure?” Enoch asked, glancing at Justin.
“I could make it an order if you’d like,” Brie said with a smile.
“Hold on.” Enoch closed the door and could be seen talking with Jared. The door opened again and both blackshirts entered the room.
“Thanks, Ma’am,” Jared said.
“You’re welcome,” Brie replied. “Now keep it down, it looks like they’re about to start.”
