"What?!" My jaw dropped open even further. Zerra was asking about my relationship with Amy! This was just unbelievable!
Then, when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the last bombshell about Amy being Brie's daughter?!
What the frack was happenining? Was all Hades Hole being let loose? I sat glued for Apollo's answer to this one...

“Is it true that Major Brie is Captain Amy’s biological mother?”
“Frack,” Brie whispered to herself. She had known that her statement back on the Agro Ship would come back to haunt her, but didn’t think that it would be broadcast for the entire fleet to hear. She had already devised a very simple plan, but had hoped to speak with Abby before putting it into effect. There was no longer time for that. She purposely didn’t look at anyone else in the room with her as she waited to hear what Commander Apollo would say. Did he know the truth?

Having returned control of the Livestock ship over to her Skipper, Skyler led the formation of vipers back to the Callisto, the IFB broadcast playing in his headset, and by the lack of comm chatter, he wasn't the only one listening to it. His viper edged slightly ahead of the others. He was worried.... Brie had been shot, three times, and then assualted by a mob. Pierce should be glad he was dead.......
“Is it true that Major Brie is Captain Amy’s biological mother?”
What the FRACK??? Skyler thought.....it must have skipped over to General Sickbay already....

Commander Apollo remained silent for several microns. The question from Zerra seemed so totally out-of-the-blue. “That would be news to me,” he said at last.
Someone ran up to Zerra and handed her a folder. “I have Major Brie’s public record right here,” she said. “Let’s see, Brie would have been, what, 17 when Amy was born? It says here that she was in a special pre-Academy program at the time.”
“I refuse to comment about something that I have no knowledge of,” Commander Apollo said.
“But she never finished that program,” Zerra continued. “I wonder why that was.”
“That I actually remember,” Apollo said quickly. My sister and I were both involved with that program, although Athena more so than I was. There was a highly contagious skin disease making its way around the Galactica, and Brie caught it. She was quarantined...for...several...sectars...” Apollo’s voice trailed off.
“How many sectars, Commander? Nine, maybe?”
Apollo stood up. “Excuse me, I refuse to be a part of this.” He walked off.
“Thank you, Commander,” Zerra said. “We will now return to General Sickbay, but I promise we’ll be on top of this late-breaking story. Until then, this is Zerra, reporting for the IFB.”

Things were getting way out of control. All of this just could not be happening. I had to see Brie...I just hoped I would get there before anyone else did.

When the broadcast finished I looked over at Brie. Her face said it all. What Zerra had said was true. That plus what I thought I overheard over on the agroship. I would wait until the Blackshirts left before I would say my peace to Brie. But I knew that if Brie needed someone to talk to, I had to let her know I was there for her.

Skyler pushed his Viper even harder, his mind was not really on what he was doing. He was all but traveling at full battle thrusters now, and the distance between him and his fellow Warriors grew with each micron. The Callisto appeared ,off in the distance the distinctive shape of the Battlestar could just be made out by the naked eye. Soon he would be with Brie, if she wanted him there.....
"CAPTAIN Skyler to Flight Control, inbound with Gold Flight One, requesting landing instructions....."

“What the frack is going on in here?” Doc Bkj had burst into Brie’s room. She immediately approached the medical monitors. “Brie, your heart rate and blood pressure have both shot WAY up. You’re doing better, but you’re still recovering from major surgery. You need to avoid stress. Everybody out, now!”
“Wait,” Brie said, worried. “Most of the people watching don’t know that Zerra was just spreading rumors, a story that I made up so that the Agro workers wouldn’t kill me. If any of Pierce’s followers just heard that felgercarb, they’ll come after Amy.”
“I’ll contact Captain Urdea,” Enoch said, “make sure that she’s got extra security.”
Brie breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you. As Amy’s commanding officer once again, she is to receive no visitors, besides her mother, without my permission. Got it?”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Enoch replied. “I doubt that Abby will be by, I heard someone say she was returning to the Agro Ship.”
“Good. Oh, and just in case you believed any of that felgercarb,” Brie continued, “use your security clearance to look up her mother’s file. I’m sure all her pregnancy history is in there. Her real name is Abighiá. A-B-I-G-H...”
“No, Major, there’s no need,” was all that Enoch said.
“And we’ll make sure Captain Amy is kept safe,” Jared answered. They walked out of the room.
Doc Bkj looked at JustinB. “Brie needs to rest,” she said. “I’m sure you don’t want to risk her health, especially after you saved her life.”
“Can he come back later?” Brie asked.
“If you get your blood pressure down,” Doc said. “Now Major, out.” Brie watched as Justin left the room. She was sure that he had figured out the truth. What a mess everything had become. “Brie,” Bkj said, “I know that this sounds impossible right now, but you have to avoid stress and remain calm. You should rest. And if you need to talk, especially to someone who has been your doctor for yahrens and realized on your very first exam that you had at some point in your life given birth...”
“I need to talk to the Commander first,” Brie replied.
“Fair enough,” Bkj replied. “I’ll make a note on your chart no visitors for the next three centars or so, except for Commander Apollo, and only if your numbers say that you’re up to it. Listen to me, I’m talking as if you’re my patient. What do you think of Doctor Ellis?”
“I’ve never seen him around here before,” Brie replied. “He seems nice enough.”
“He’s a civilian doctor, on loan from the Rising Star,” Doc told her. “One of the best surgeons in the fleet, and when he heard about the mutiny attempt, he shuttled right over here, to offer his services. So I end up getting stuck treating all of Pierce’s followers...” Doc headed to the door. “Get some rest, that’s an order.”

Brie closed her eyes, welcoming the partial darkness. Doc Bkj had dimmed the lights when she left, and between that and the newfound quiet Brie hoped that she would be able to relax. But she knew better than that. Soon Commander Apollo would be at her door, demanding an explanation. He deserved to know the whole truth. Maybe a few did others as well. She needed to talk to Abby, what a lousy time for her to return to the Agro Ship!
Her plan was simple, Brie would lie through her teeth. She would deny everything. She didn’t finish the program because of the skin disease, she made up the story about being Amy’s bio-mom when the Agro Ship workers were trying to kill her because they blamed her for Amy’s condition. It would work. If only she could talk to Abby, find out how she wanted to handle things.
She’d tell the truth and she would lie. What a stupid plan. She hoped that it would take Commander Apollo a long time to make it to her room.
The door opened a crack. “Major Brie?” Enoch whispered. “Are you awake?”
“Yeah, what’s up?” She was dreading what he was about to say, she was sure it had to do with someone wanting to see her.
“We just received word that Major...I mean Captain Skyler and your viper are approaching the Callisto. The rest of Gold Squadron is returning from the Livestock Ship, no injuries.”
“Thanks,” Brie replied. “Wait a centon, MY viper?”
“It was assigned to Maj, um, Captain Skyler while his is being repaired,” Enoch told her. “At least that’s what I heard.”
“Oh.”
“I won’t bother you anymore,” Enoch said. “I know you need your rest.” He closed the door again.
Brie sighed. “Skyler took my viper,” she said to herself. She wondered if he had found the note that she kept in there. “What else is going to go wrong?”

“Did you know about this?” Commander Apollo was standing in Sheba’s office, still trying to figure out what had happened during his IFB interview.
“Know about what?” the other commander replied. “Apollo, we don’t even know if it’s true. We won’t know anything until you talk to Brie.”
“Believe me, I’m going to.” Apollo was both angry and surprised. He wasn’t sure who exactly he was madder at, Brie or Zerra.
Sheba put a hand on her friend’s shoulder. “Just remember, she’s recovering from surgery, and preparing for another operation. And none of this would have happened if we hadn’t played God with Brie’s life.”
“What wouldn’t have happened, we wouldn’t have found out the truth?” Apollo asked.
“You don’t know what the truth is, and won’t until you talk to Brie,” Sheba reminded him again. “And if she is Amy’s biological mother I'm sure she had a good reason to keep it hidden. I will tell you this, no matter what Pierce said in the Tribunal Brie never gave any special privileges to Amy. She was treated just like any other squadron member, rewarded for hard work and reprimanded when needed.”
“They were roommates for awhile,” Apollo reminded Sheba.
“Yes, but that was because Amy’s life was in danger. If Brie hadn’t taken her in I would have offered for Amy to stay in MY quarters. Go, talk to Brie, find out the truth. But don’t blame her for something that might have happened when she was 17. I think she’s proven herself time and again since then.”
