I sat down as Skyler gave me a run down on the situation and Gold Squadron's progress. It was starting to sink in that Brie may be gone forever. I fought the feeling of her loss and thought I should confront Skyler about the message.
"Skyler, thanks for the effort you and your squadron have put in to searching for Major Brie." I paused and took a breath, it was now or never. "I don't know if you know this, but Brie and I were seeing each other and have been for some time. In my own search for what happened, I was given permission by Commander Sheba to conduct a search for what might have happened to her. I have checked out her room and also her personal logs and messages and there was something in one of her messages which has been playing on my mind."
I stopped and looked at Skyler to see if he reacted to what I just said and he didn't so I decided I was going to ask him.
"In the message it said that you and Brie shared a kiss and she also said she loved you. What I want to know is how long it has been going on for or was it just a fling? I have too know because I thought we had something serious and i was hoping to marry her one day and start a family with her."
I waited for his response and for a flicker of a micron I could see a little indecision in his face. I got myself ready for bad news I knew which was about to follow.

Skyler listened to JustinB and wondered how much he really should tell him. Was it his place to let him know that Brie was carrying his child…? NO it was Brie’s place. Brie should of have been the one telling him. He wished she could, but since she couldn’t, he would have too.
“JustinB, I am not going to lie to you…Yes, I love Brie… I always have. We have been so close to one another for so long it is hard not to fall into love, but it could never happen as long as she and I were in the same chain of command. Yes I knew she was seeing you, and as long as Brie was happy, I was happy. I am not saying you don’t, but I love her enough that all I care about is her happiness. Be it me, you or anyone else, as long as she was happy I could live with her choice.” Skyler paused “Now the events leading up to that message and kiss, Brie was wounded during the last mission she was on and exposed to anaesthesine vapor. I flew her back here in my Viper to have Doc BKJ treat her. Brie wanted BKJ to check her out because of her allergic reactions to that fracking vapor. On the flight back Brie told me what I had already figured out, that she was the mystery women the IFB has been trying to find. She opened up a lot about everything. Her life was getting ready for a serious change and she wasn’t sure how to handle it. Once we were here, and she was in the life station, she told me she was leaving Gold Squadron and she was going to take a position at the Academy.” Skyler watched JustinB’s face, not really sure how far he should go with this… all the way. “She said she wasn’t sure if she was ready to commit to a serious relationship since so much had changed recently. She told me she loved you, but she also admitted she loved me too. Did I kiss her? Yes. Do I regret the kiss…? NO, and I wouldn’t change it if I could, especially if she really is gone. I left her right after that, she needed time to rest, to clear her mind and to decided what she was going to do next. She wanted to talk to you before making any decisions. I am sure she wanted to let you know she was pregnant with your daughter, or did you miss that part of the private message. She said daughters, plural, not daughter meaning Amy, but daughters, two.” Skyler stopped before he lost his temper. The stress of not knowing where Brie was and the lack of sleep were already wearing thin and he didn’t feel that being questioned was helping to find her.

As Skyler was replying, what he was saying started my blood boiling. I was ready to explode when Skyler said she was pregnant. It shook me to hades and back. With that it started to bring everything into perspective. I thought with what had happened all so recently. The relationship that had started out of nowhere and had gone into light speed. There were still things about her I didn't know, which Skyler did know. She always had a close relationship with her squadron. A baby daughter, mine. Now they were both gone. I looked up at Skyler then placed my head in my hands. This was all too crazy. There was only one person that hated Brie to the point of obsession but he was dead. The thought of being the father of Brie's child came back into my head. It was even now more important to find out what happened and bring whoever was responsible to justice and I knew I couldn't do it alone. For Brie's sake I had to do the right thing. I stood up suddenly then made my way over to Skyler and my sudden movement caused him to get into a defensive stance. Stopping short of where he was I contemplated what to do next.
I knew what I had to do and that was forget what Brie, might have or might have not done and be the person she knew me to be. I stretched out my arm to Skyler.
"Skyler, for what it's worth, I am not going to fight you. What happened between you and Brie as far as I am concerned has happened and in the past. I ask you to join me in either finding Brie or find the persons responsible for her and my daughters death. As a fellow warrior, I seek your help. We both loved Brie and I think instead of being angry or fighting each other we should work together for Brie's honour and the love she gave both of us." With my arm still stretched out I waited for his reply.

Skyler took his arm, and wondered what he was talking about. People responsible for her death…. Did Sheba know something that he didn’t? Did someone kill Brie? Unless Sheba had further information, he knew the final answer lay in the wreckage and the secrets it revealed.
“JustinB, I am not angry and have no intention to fight. IF Brie is still alive I want to find her, no matter what. If someone is responsible then I will be more than happy to take care of that as well, but my first duty is finding her if possible.”
Skyler’s pager beeped again.
<<Major Skyler, Commander Sheba wants you to report to her as soon as possible>>
“Major, if you will excuse me I have to report to the bridge. I would be more than happy to go over my sensor data after I get finished. If you want to start with out me, that would be outstanding, a fresh set of eyes to make sure we didn’t miss anything. I haven’t slept in two cycles…..”
Skyler excused himself and headed to the bridge. He wished he was able to report some good news, but there was none to be had.

The Bridge was a hive of activity as Skyler entered. It almost looked like Combat Operations were underway, with out the somber lighting from the red filters on the Battle Station Lighting. Sheba spotted him as soon as he had entered and nodded to her ready room and headed that way herself. Skyler followed her in and the door closed, blocking the sounds of the bridge almost completely out. She took a seat at the table they had been sharing when news that Brie’s Viper had exploded reached them. Skyler noticed the lone package on the table had Brie’s handwriting on the outside. His heart sank in his chest. It was her will, and the only reason Sheba would have it is they had declared her dead…..
“Skyler, your sensor data has not turned up anything. I have talked to Captain Gil of the Investigation team and his people have finished collecting the wreckage and will bring it to a secure cargo hold to piece this together. Until we have an answer Apollo and I will list Brie as Missing in Action. If they can not prove she died in that Viper it will stay an open MIA case. If they prove it, the status will be changed to Killed In Action, Body Not Recovered.” The puzzled look on Skyler’s face was enough for Sheba to know what he was thinking “Yes, we know she was not in action by the true sense of the phrase, but with the high state of alert we are under, and the constant vigil by all Colonial Warriors, Apollo feels that you are always in action, even in your sleep. Besides, we are still at War with the Cylons and w didn't want a Warrior like Brie listed as dying in an accident." Sheba turned the package around and looked back at Skyler…
“Her will is in here. I did read it to see if it shed any light on the mystery. It didn’t help. She wants everything to go to Amy. JustinB had already taken some photos, so I will have to check with Amy if it is ok for him to keep them if it is proven she is really gone. Of course Amy doesn’t know anything yet. She disappeared right after you asked her about taking the SIC posting. Logan and Brik are going undercover to find her and let her know what is going on and bring her back. This is off the records and other than the team going, we are the only other two that know. I rather keep it that way. It will protect Amy as well as the team. I was thinking of storing Brie’s stuff until Amy’s return. If she can not be found, then I was thinking of letting Abbey hold onto it since she is the next closest thing to Amy’s family that is left. I know you and Brie were close and that both your commitments to the service kept it from being more. I also know JustinB and her shared feelings.” Brie pulled out a small sealed envelope and handed it to Skyler. He took it and turned it over. Brie had written Captain Skyler on the outside. “She meant this for you. I have one for Amy as well. Since they are of a personal nature I did not open them. I trust that if anything in it explains what happened you will share it.”
“You know I will.” Skyler answered. “So what is next? She is not on the planet. No trace of her between the fleet and the planet. Where do we go from here?” Skyler not wanting to accept the answer that battered at his heart…
“We might have to face the fact that she is gone this time….” Sheba’s voice trailed off. She looked at the defiant look on Skyler’s face. She knew he would never accept it without a body to prove it. Frack, she didn’t want to either……

It had been such a long search for Brie. Gold Squadron had searched their hearts out. I wasn't giving up hope but I had to get back to running my Squadron. I had made a copy of the photo of Brie with Turner and placed it on my desk. Looking at the roster it was time for us to get some flying time. I had to ask the commander for Black Squadron to get the next rotation. I made my way to Commander Sheba on the bridge.
When I arrived she wasn't there. I left a message and proceeded to check on my Viper. Shaking my head at the thought of never seeing Brie again, I slowly made my way to the beta launch bay.

Skyler sat at his desk, the weight of his head supported in his hands, propped on his elbows. It hadn’t been that long since Brie’s Viper exploded, several cycles, but it felt like sectons. He felt empty, hallow, with out purpose. He leaned his head forward and allowed his hands to run thru his short hair before looking at the small bottle of sleeping pills BJK had given him to help him rest. He picked them up and turned it over in his hand several times, reading the label with each pass. He leaned back in his chair and dropped the unopened bottle back into the open desk drawer. He wasn’t ready to let go of the pain just yet. Even as the evidence stacked against her odds, Skyler refused to believe in his heart that she was gone. The voice inside his head spoke again, a voice he heard all too often now. ‘You are a Squadron Commander now moron, not a XO. You do not have Brie here to carry your sorry butt any longer. Get over this dream that she is alive and get your job done.’ He pushed his chair back and stood up. He would need to see Sheba about the status of several of his people. Yes, he knew the secret mission she had them on but he would be interested to see what the cover story would be for this one. Insanity might work, a trip to the iso-ward’s padded rooms in the life station might be just what the Doc ordered, for all of them……

(RPG note: this takes place PRIOR to my other post in Amy's LAUNCH thread)...
Commander Sheba had me come into the war room at the back of the bridge. She didn't look happy.
"Colonel. Relay the message to all Gold Squadron search teams to return to the ship at once. I've heard from Apollo and there may be a new threat in this system. We have to move on. No matter who is left behind."
The weight of that decision must be taking its toll on her and on Cmdr. Apollo. To possibly, knowingly leave Warriors behind is the last thing anyone wants to do, but for the safety of the entire human race, it must be done!
I started to say something to protest, but I knew it would do no good. "Yes, ma'am." I turned and went to send the signal to the pilots...
