"Uh oh, I'm not sure the Commander will appreciate that!" I laughed. Then a more sobering thought crossed my mind: Brie.
"Amy, I won't tell anyone about this until you're ready. This time, we'll do it your way. Whatever you want. I mean, let's face it, not too many people will be jumping for joy about this announcement. After all that went on at the tribunal... At least they will realize that it was for real. And Brie, oh boy. She's gonna hit the ceiling with this. She'll think you've lost your mind and she's going to blame me for everything under the twin suns regarding her squadron. She already thinks I meddle in her affairs too much. This? She'll accuse me of stealing her squadron again and not being able to take my hands off of it."
Amy got a wry smile, "Well, I hope at least you won't take your hands off one member of Gold squadron! Anyway, Brie just wants to look out for the people she depends on. You know it, you were there at one time."
I thought back to my days as squadron CO. "Yeah, I know, but I don't think I ever acted like she does. All the squadrons ultimately answer to Sheba and me by extension. At some point she'll have to realize that. Each of us is just one little piece to this whole puzzle. You know I don't do anything intentionally. She may perceive it that way but it's not. You're going to find yourself in an uncomfortable position with her, you know. "
"Don't worry about it, Charybdis. Let her run the squadron as she sees fit. Besides, you're an old musty bridge crew officer now anyways!"
I gave her a smile back. She could get herself into quite the predicament, but she could easily diffuse situations just as well.
"I'll check in later. I love you." "I love you too," Amy smiled back. I turned and left.
Amy sat there probably not believing just what went on. She was engaged to be sealed!
Just then, a med tech came in. She looked out the door after me and walked in. "Honey, that is some kind of man," she said.
"Yes, he is," Amy said without blushing...
