Note-I moved this from the "Choices" thread, so if you think you've already read the first post, you're not going insane. At least not because of this Doc Bkj stood outside of Brie’s door, just staring in the window. She was slightly glad that Skyler had finally left, he needed a break from the emotional roller coaster. She wasn’t sure why he left, but knowing him it was duty related. She just hoped it wasn’t Cylons. A woman timidly approached Doc. Bkj knew her fairly well, or at least she had thought so at one point. It was Kyla, former med tech, former follower of Pierce, the woman who had stopped Pierce from shooting Brie point blank for the bridge crews of both battlestars to see. Kyla had saved Brie’s life, only for this to happen. “How is she?” Kyla asked shyly. “Any change?” “No,” Bkj replied. “Her vitals are good. Ironically her body is healing very well. But she’s not waking up. It feels like we just went through this.” “We DID just go through this,” Kyla remarked. “Is there any chance that I could sit with her for a little while?” “No,” came two male voices in unison. Doc had grown so accustomed to the presence of the two security officers, Enoch and Jared, that she hardly even noticed them anymore. “It’s my decision, and I don’t have any problem with it,” she said sternly. “She used to follow Pierce,” Enoch said like he was providing new information. “USED to,” Doc said. “Brie grew to trust her, and so I do too. Now unless you’d like me to contact Captain Urdea...” “No, Ma’am,” Enoch said quickly. “But I’m going in with her. And you need to be there as well, Captain Skyler’s orders.” “That’s fine,” Bkj said in a more relaxed tone. She opened the door. “After you.” “You’d better keep your hands where I can see them at all times,” Enoch mumbled as he followed Bkj and Kyla into the room.

Boleman sat in the back of the room. He wasn’t there in an official capacity, but there was nowhere else in the fleet that he would be at the micron. He watched silently as Trula, his wife of ten yahrens, was brought into the small chamber in shackles. She immediately noticed him. “What the frack is he doing here?” she screamed. “I don’t want a Protector!”
“I’m not here as your Protector,” Boleman said calmly. “I’m here as your soon-to-be ex-husband.”
“Not soon enough.” Trula spat on the floor.
The proceedings were simple. Trula pled guilty to all charges, including treason, the attempted murder of Major Brie and accessory to the Murder of Captain Turner. She was sentenced to life on the Prison Barge.
“I hear the Widow is dying again,” Trula said to Boleman as she was being led out of the room. “I hope she rots in Hades for what she did to Master Pierce!”
Boleman continued to sit quietly long after everyone else had left. How could he have been so wrong? He doubted that he would ever be able trust anyone totally again.

Boleman continued to sit and stare quietly into the air in front of him. He seemed to be doing that a lot lately. He had no idea what he wanted to do with the next part of his life. Brie’s tribunal had renewed his interest in practicing more than just civilian law, even though he knew the outcome of the case before it had even started. He was one of just a handful of people that Commander Apollo had trusted with his plan, that meant a lot to him.
He was seriously considering a transfer to the Callisto. Living on the Galactica again just didn’t seem possible. Even if he didn’t transfer he couldn’t stay in his quarters, he had lived there because of Trula and her position. It looked like the Galactica would need to find a new head chef.
Out of habit, Boleman glanced at his chrono. He had totally forgotten that he needed to see Kyla. He had made sure that she wouldn’t be arrested because of her help in thwarting Pierce’s attempt, but she would have to tell any and all information that she knew about the New Secret Survival Society. Having made the deal for her just a centar before Trula’s sentencing, Kyla didn’t yet know her fate. He was pretty sure he knew where he could find her.

“She looks so peaceful,” Kyla observed upon entering the room. She reached to take Brie’s hand.
“No,” Enoch said sternly.
Kyla ignored him, but pulled her own hand back. “Do you think she can hear us?”
“I don’t know,” Doc Bkj replied. “I like to think that she can. But I also think that right now she’s just hanging out somewhere with Turner, and that’s why she’s in no hurry to come back.”
Kyla chuckled once. “Turner. I’m not used to hearing his name without the words ‘The Great Traitor’ following. I can’t believe the way that I allowed Pierce to dupe me.”
Bkj put a hand on Kyla’s shoulder. “It wasn’t just you, it was hundreds of people. He used their losses and their weaknesses to his advantage. He offered hope. It was false hope, but that can be a pretty powerful.”
“And I fell for it,” Kyla said quietly. “When I think about my part in what’s happened to Brie...”
“I’ve seen the video scans, you saved her life,” Doc said. “Don’t count Brie out yet. She’s a survivor. She’ll find her way back. We’ve got to believe it, and believe in her.”
“If there’s anything I...” Kyla stopped mid sentence, stared blankly ahead for a micron, then fell to the floor. Enoch immediately drew his weapon.
Doc Bkj squatted next to Kyla. “Put that thing away, and yell into the hall that I need a gurney. She’s unconscious.”
“It might be a trick,” Enoch said.
“Now!” Doc ordered, and Enoch obeyed. Within a centon Kyla was being rolled out of the room. “I want additional security down here,” she mentioned to Enoch and Jared as she passed them. “I don’t yet know what’s going on, but I’m not willing to take any more chances.”

Slowly Kyla opened her eyes and looked around, trying to figure out where she was. She immediately noticed the IV in her arm. Doc Bkj stood next to her bed. “You’re fine,” Doc said immediately, "but I’m going to keep you here for the next couple of cycles, until you get your strength back. When was the last time that you ate? Drank? Slept for more than a few centons?”
Kyla shook her head. “I don’t know.”
“You have to take care of yourself, Kyla,” Doc scolded. “If not for you, do it for your baby.”
Kyla stared blankly at Bkj. “My what?”
“Your baby,” Doc repeated. “You’re pregnant. I’d say well into your second trimester by quick examination, although we’d have to do an ultrasound to be sure. Are you saying that you didn’t know?”
“No,” Kyla said slowly. “I mean, I knew I had gained some weight, but I thought it was stress. And I never missed...”
“That’s rare, but possible,” Doc interrupted. “Is there someone you want me to contact? Your family?”
“My mom and I haven’t spoken in yahrens,” Kyla said. “This would just be another way for her to prove what a mess I’ve made of my life.”
“How about the baby’s father?” Doc wanted to know. “Maybe he can help.”
Kyla shook her head. “The father is dead.”
“I’m sorry,” Bkj said sincerely. “Was he one of Pierce’s cohorts?”
Kyla looked down. “Pierce is the father.” Doc let out a slight gasp but didn’t say anything. “He’s the only one I’ve ever...if word of this gets out there could be problems with any surviving followers. They thought he was a god, they might think that of this child as well.”
“I’ve already added security,” Doc informed her. “With your permission, I’d like to inform the Commanders. They need to know.”
Kyla nodded and let out a small laugh. “When I was little, all I wanted to be was a warrior like my father. But it was obvious that I wouldn’t make it because of my vision problems. So then I dreamed of becoming a mother. I could be a good mother. This baby will need it, with Pierce’s DNA in him or her.”

Boleman was taking his time walking to the Sick Bay, where he was sure he would find Kyla. He had kept up with what was going on, but hadn’t actually stopped to visit Brie since her return from the Agro Ship. He figured that she didn’t need a whole lot of visitors, she had almost died from her injuries, then she had the heart attack, and now she was in a coma, a coma caused by her assigned doctor trying to kill her. He wondered just how many of Pierce’s subjects were still alive. How would they ever be able to tell if someone had followed him? Boleman didn’t know, especially since he had had no idea that his wife had been a member of Pierce’s organization for yahrens.
What would it be like to live your life always feeling like you might be a target? Originally Boleman thought about Brie, but then realized that he himself was in that category. His role in Brie’s fake conviction would make him an enemy of anyone loyal to Pierce.
As he turned the corner Boleman wondered if it was too soon to give blood again. That had made him feel like he was at least doing something. But Brie didn’t need more blood. Whatever it was that she needed he couldn't give her.
Boleman approached Brie’s room and glanced in the window. “Sorry,” Jared said, “but no one is allowed in without Doc Bkj. Captain Skyler’s orders.”
“I was actually looking for Kyla,” Boleman replied, not able to look long at Brie in her condition.
“The med tech with the funny eye?” Jared asked.
“FORMER med tech,” Enoch corrected.
“Yeah, that’s her,” Boleman said. “Do you know where I might find her?”
“She’s in that room over there.” Jared pointed.
Boleman stared at the door. “Why are there guards? She wasn’t supposed to have been arrested.”
“Doc’s idea,” Jared said. “Kyla passed out earlier. Doc doesn’t want to take any chances, in case she was poisoned or something. She’s in there with her now. I don’t know if she wants any visitors.”
“I’m pretty sure Kyla will want to see me,” Boleman replied. “Thanks.” He cleared his throat and headed towards Kyla’s room.

Comeek paced impatiently in the brig. He had just been moved to an isolation cell from the med lab. He didn’t know who else had survived, Pierce’s Chosen were being kept apart. He hadn’t formally be charged and he wasn’t yet sure what he was going to do. He wanted to plead guilty, to stay always faithful to his master, but what was it that he was actually guilty of? Wanting a better life? No, maybe he would fight it.
As he paced a face crept into his mind. The thought of the beautiful Lieutenant Logan made him smile. She had disappointed him when it was revealed that she was a traitor, helping the Widow. It was Logan who had knocked Comeek out, landing him in the med lad. He had missed the call to join Master Pierce on the journey home because of her, so he should hate her. Instead, he realized that she had saved his life. She did care after all.
Comeek remembered Master Pierce once saying that if someone saved a life, that life now belonged to the savior. His life now belonged to Logan. HE now belonged to Logan. If only he could find some way to send her a message and let her know.

Boleman approached the guards at Kyla’s door. Although they were casually trying to block his view, he could see that Kyla was in the room with Doc Bkj, who was rolling away a piece of equipment of some type. “Can I help you?” one of the guards asked rudely.
“I need to see Kyla,” Boleman replied, irritated. With all the security officers around the med lab was starting to resemble a prison ward. “I’m Boleman, her protector.”
“We were told...” the guard started.
Boleman interrupted. “Ask Doc Bkj, or your two friends guarding Brie’s room. Or would you like me to contact the Commander?”
“One micron.”
One blackshirt entered the room, the other stayed outside the door. “Believe me, Enoch and Jared are no friends of ours,” the remaining guard said. “The rumors I’ve heard about what they do...I’m surprised that Captain Urdea is allowing them to watch Brie. No wonder her doctor was able to try to kill her.”
“But Enoch killed the doctor,” Boleman pointed out.
The blackshirt nodded. “Yeah, making himself look like the hero. Convenient.”
The other guard returned. “Doc said it’s fine, as long as you don’t stay too long. Kyla needs her rest.”
“Thanks,” Boleman said before entering the room.
“Hi, what happened?” Kyla asked nervously.
Boleman stared at her for a micron before answering. She looked so small, so feeble, as if someone could break her apart with one hand. “There won’t be any charges filed, as long as you agree to tell them everything you know about Pierce’s organization.”
Kyla breathed a sigh of relief. “I would have done that even if charges had been filed.”
“Just don’t let anyone else know that,” Boleman said with a slight grin. “And I tried, but they pulled your med tech’s license. After what happened with Doctor Ellis, they don’t want to take any chances.” He glanced at Doc Bkj, who looked sadly at the floor.
“I understand,” Kyla replied. “I don’t know all that much, Pierce didn’t tell anyone anything that they didn’t need to know, but I’ll do what I can.”
“That’s all they ask. So...” Boleman said uncomfortably, “why are you...”
“Exhaustion,” was Doc’s reply. She and Kyla exchanged glances. “I’m keeping her here for another couple of cycles, until she gets her strength back.”
“I see,” Boleman said, backing towards the door. “I’ll let you get your rest, then. I’ll arrange for you to give your testimony once you’ve been released. But remember, Kyla, as your protector, it’s wise to not keep secrets from me.”
“Like you didn’t keep any secrets from Brie?” Doc had let the words slip out.
“I was under Commander Apollo’s orders,” Boleman replied. “Brie understood, I wish that the rest of the fleet would.” He put a hand on the door.
“It’s a boy,” Kyla called after him.
Boleman turned around slowly. “Excuse me?”
“I’m going to have a baby boy,” Kyla said, not looking directly at Boleman. “Doc and I just found out that I’m a little over halfway through my pregnancy. And before you ask, the answer is ‘yes.’ He’s Pierce’s son.”

Before Boleman could say anything, Doc Bkj spoke. “We’ve tightened security. No one else yet knows about this, but soon it’s going to be hard to keep it a secret. I’m going to send Commander Sheba a message, unless you want to tell her in person.”
“I could do that,” Boleman replied.
“Good. Now out!” Bkj ordered. “Kyla needs to get some rest.” She practically pushed Boleman out the door, then dimmed the lights before heading to her office.

“This is Zerra, reporting live for the IFB. We have just received word that security around the Callisto Med Lab and Sick Bay has been greatly tightened. We have also learned that no information about the condition of Major Brie or Captain Amy is being released to anyone other than high-ranking officers or family members. This is probably due to the fact that Brie had, on the Agro Ship, claimed that Amy was her biological daughter, a statement that she later recanted. Since the danger to Major Brie is perceived to be great, these security measures will continue until all of Pierce’s followers have been caught. We will keep you up to...oh look, here comes Protector Boleman. May we have a word, Protector? How is Major Brie?”
Boleman held up a hand and continued to walk. “No comment.”
“What about your wife, Sir? Any comments about the fact that the woman that you are sealed to is one of Pierce’s strongest supporters? That Trula has been convicted of several things, including her part in the murder of Major Brie’s husband?”
Boleman faced Zerra for a micron. “Trula and I will be divorced within the sectar. I have no other comments.” He started to walk again.
“This has been Zerra, reporting live for the IFB. We will continue to keep you updated on all the latest news. Until then, we return you to your regularly scheduled programming.”
