The first thing that Brie did upon returning to her quarters was check her messages. The one she was hoping for was there, Amy was being allowed visitors. Now she knew why Charybdis had left the party so quickly. Abby also wanted to speak with her. That was good, they needed to talk. There was the latest report from Astraea, and although Brie wanted to read it, it could wait. There was also a strange message from one of the engineers on the Pylos, requesting that she contact him at her convenience. Brie shook her head. “I wonder what that’s about,” she said out loud. She glanced at her chrono, she didn’t have time. She counted down, “Five...four...three...two...one...” Exactly ten centons after leaving the party there was a knock on Brie's door. "It's open," she called.
Skyler opened the door and walked through. "Do you really think that's a good idea? Leaving it unlocked? There's no way of knowing if all of Pierce's people have been captured."
"I already told you, Skyler," Brie replied, "I can take care of myself. If someone is going to come after me, a locked door won't stop him."
"What's wrong?" Skyler wanted to know. "You seemed upset at the end of the party."
Brie nodded. "Yeah. Finding out we had a temporary quartermaster didn't really bother me, you needed the help, since you were doing the jobs of three people. But what the frack is Charybdis doing, using this temporary quartermaster to arrange Gold Squadron housing assignments? Colonel or not, he has no say whatsoever in the day to day operations of the squadron. I can't believe you let him get away with that!"

Skyler had followed Brie, at a distance. The electro motors in her powered chair gave off a low hum, that allowed him to remain out of sight as she headed towards her quarters. They arrived at her quarters with time to spare so Skyler waited till the commanded time to knock. He wondered if she knew how many times he had stood just outside her door, watching his chrono waiting for the time to laspe before reporting...... five....four....three.....two.....one.. he reached up and knocked......
<<<<Skyler opened the door and walked through. "Do you really think that's a good idea? Leaving it unlocked? There's no way of knowing if all of Pierce's people have been captured."

"Didn't have a lot of choice with the assigment Brie, I tried to argue it, but was informed that Core Command decided the new assignment, get used to it. I talked to Sheba in private about it and she was concerned with the morale of the Squadron with all that had happened to you. She knows how tight we are, a family. She wanted to free up some of my duties so I could focus more on the Squadron's morale" Skyler paused.... "I still wasn't happy about it, because I knew you like doing the assignments."

Ike, Brik, and Wraith walked toward the hangar bay.
"Brik, you know you can rely on us in keeping our eyes and ears open," Ike replied to his friend.
The three Warriors entered the hangar bay only to see a figure in dark coveralls under Wraith's viper. The three looked at one another, then moved forward with determination. The unknown figured stopped what he or she was doing, dropped a hyper-wrench with an echoing clank, and scurried from under the fighter. The three men rushed toward the scene, spread out in a search, and all of a sudden stopped to listen. The hangar was quite again. The figure had escaped.
Returning to Wraith's Scarlet Viper, they all three kneeled down. Ike found the location of the hyper-wrench, as Wraith went under his craft to identify which systems had been tampered with. Turning to Brik, Ike said, "We better inform Skyler and Brie ASAP. I wonder if this is what has been happening to Vera? This guy must have known we'd be at the party, taking advantage of our abscence. But, who? Why?"

"Skyler, if you're running the squadron, you're supposed to be part of Core Command, so don't let them give you any felgercarb," Brie stated. “I don’t care that there was a quartermaster, that’s not a big deal. But from what Astraea told me it was Charybdis’ doing that she received private quarters, and that was a terrible idea. Not only does she have less of a chance to bond with the other pilots, but it makes it look like she gets special treatment because of her relationship with him. Remember how Amy was treated?”
Skyler nodded before answering. “I didn’t know that Charybdis and Astraea had a relationship.”
“They did before she went missing,” Brie said. “I don’t know what’s going on now, especially with Amy awake. Okay, next subject.” She looked around. “I was going to thank you for sprucing up my quarters for my return, but then it dawned on me that even though it’s new paint, there’s no fresh paint smell. Out of curiosity I did a little bit of checking. It turns out that the requisition for the paint job AND the new furniture were dated right after the verdict of my tribunal. Coincidence?”

Skyler glanced around the room.... New wall locker, cause he had caved the door in after Ike, Wraith and Brik stopped him from caving Pierce's face in. New Chair, after he had kicked the other one out of his way and it busted into tiny pieces.
"Well, now that you bring it up, I had a few spare centons and......." Skyler took a deep breath "You know I can't lie to you..... When I heard the verdict all hades flew into me. I kicked the chair out of my way as I headed out to find Pierce. It was a little more fragile than I first thought, and it kinda broke. Ike, Wraith, Brik and Logan stopped me from getting to Pierce, and I vented on the locker door. I guess I have a little bit of a temper...."
Brie smiled... "You a temper? I had never really noticed."

Brie smiled... "You a temper? I had never really noticed." She took a deep breath before continuing. “But Skyler, you’re going to have to learn to control it better. If you had gone after Pierce, Commander Apollo’s plan would have fallen apart, Pierce’s murder of my husband would never have been exposed, and the record of my ‘breakdown’ would never have been cleared. Plus all of Pierce’s followers would still be out there, instead of dead or captured. Not to mention that there would then be no one to run the squadron, which needs to be your first priority.”
“At the time I didn’t realize...”
Brie cut him off. “I had said all along that I would accept the verdict. You needed to do the same thing.” She paused. “I hated Pierce as well. What no one knows is that he had confessed everything to me in the middle of the tribunal. Turner’s murder, setting me up, all of it, although he didn’t at the time tell me about his God complex. We were alone, no guards, no cameras. He made a miscalculation and next thing he knew my arms were around his neck, allowing him only enough air to stay alive. My career, my life as I knew it, appeared to be over and it was all his fault. Part of me felt that since I was about to be convicted it might as well be for an actual crime. But I’m a better person than that. You are too.”
“I don’t know if I would have...” Skyler stammered.
For a second time Brie interrupted. “As squadron leader you need to set an example, not have the members physically have to hold you back.”
“I’m not the squadron leader,” Skyler reminded her.
“You were then. And now, as second-in-command you need to be set to take over at a microns notice. You never know when I won’t be around anymore.”
“Brie,” Skyler said with a sigh, “nothing stops you.”
“Nothing but a suicide mission, a false conviction, and two comas,” Brie said. "You’ve spent more time running the squadron the past few sectars than I have. You need to make a conscience effort to control your temper. Now, one more thing. There are Cylons in the area. I don’t know how I know that, but I’m sure of it. I want you to handle the squadron assignments for the fight that’s coming. You know the squadron better than I do right now.”
“Okay,” Skyler said.
Brie smiled again. “I really liked that chair.”

Skyler looked at the new chair. Other than the color of the covering, it was identical to the other chair. 99% of the funiture on this Battlestar was identical, maybe different colors, but other wise, the same. Still, it wasn't her chair, and that made all the difference......
"Brie, I will get the Squadron ready to go at a microns notice, even if we have to have a Battlestations Drill to do it. They are chomping at the bit to get back into action. They have been babied to much since your premature death announcement. I am not saying we didn't need some time to cope with it, but there is a time to cope and a time to get back to work. I will have assignments in a few centons. Just have to change a few things around, and they are ready. "
Skyler stood and was going to go to his quarters and get the duty roster he had already made out, turned and looked at Brie....
"As I was starting to say eariler..... At the time I didn’t realize the full extent of Apollo's plan. I couldn't beleive they would let someone with your record go down like that. I usually can control my anger, find outlets to vent, but with the emotions of being told you were gone, then having you show back up, only to be snatched away for that outragoues excuse of a tribunal, I guess I let my guard down and my anger escaped. By the Lords of Kobol I will never let you down again......"

"You didn't let me down, Skyler," Brie said, "and for the record I don't really give a frack about the chair. But I have a question for you. I don't want an answer, it’s just something for you to think about. If the tribunal had been about Stadia or Logan or your good buddy Brik or even Commander Sheba for Sagan's sake, would you have reacted the same way? The squadron has to come first and........other things, impossible things, need to be ignored. It makes no sense to dwell on what can never be.”
“I understand,” Skyler replied.
The comm crackled. "All squadrons on alert. All squadrons on alert. Squadron CO's report to the bridge. All squadron CO's report to the bridge."
Brie looked back at Skyler. “I want you to take care of this. I’m on extremely light duty, which basically consists of paperwork. I’ll tell the Commander to expect you. But keep me informed.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Skyler replied. He opened the door.
“Captain,” Brie said, “think about what I said.” As he left Brie sighed, then sent a message to the bridge.

"I'm going to find a way to outlaw love within the squadron," Brie mumbled to herself after Skyler had left. He needed to control his feelings.
A bell rang, signaling that Brie had a highly secure communication coming through. On the other end was Doc Bkj. "Brie," she started, "you're supposed to be avoiding stress. I've just sent a message to Commander Sheba, stating that you're not medically cleared for whatever this alert is about."
"Relax, Mom," Brie replied sarcastically. "I sent a message to the Commander myself. Skyler's filling in for me. He knows more about what is happening in the squadron right now anyway.”
Doc paused. “Wow. I thought I was going to have to argue with you about this one. One more thing, Brie. About that question you asked me last time I saw you? It’s a go.”
Brie nodded. Now she understood why they were speaking on such a secure channel. “Good. Do you know offhand if anyone is with Amy right now?”
“I saw Charybdis leaving earlier,” Bkj told her. “I don’t think there’s anyone there now.”
“I have one message to return, and then I’ll be stopping by. Major Brie, out.”

Skyler stopped by his quarters and grabbed the duty assignments, a quick glace told him he didn't need to change anything. The only thing that had changed was Brie was on light duty and not medical leave. He was still acting Squadron Leader, the rest of the squadron officers did not have flight status at this micron, so......
He grabbed his com link... "Lt. Brik, I have the current duty roster.... it hasn't changed much from the copy posted in the ready room. If you can meet me I will give you the new one. I am leaving the living quarters section heading to the Bridge." Skyler received acknowledgment from Brik and continued on.
His mind wandered back to Brie's question. Its true that he over reacted because it was Brie. His feelings for her was the one thing he was unable to totally control. Everything else in his life was easy. He was a Warrior, by choice, and everything else came second, by choice. The one thing he truly wanted, he couldn't have. He prayed the price being paid would be worth it in the end. He pushed the question from his mind. Now was not the time to have his mind on anything but the Alert.
