"Well" Amy replied, "I don't think that was his decision to make. Why didn't he talk to my mom? She could have told him what she told me. That I was going to hear some things and that it was best if they came from her. She wasn't protecting me from anything, and he shouldn't have either. That she didn't know where my dad was found means that she and Charybdis haven't talked this whole time I was missing, then in a coma. I guess once Astraea came back I was old news."
"I doubt it was like that" Brie said.
"I mean, what does he expect me to think? My dad dies in his bathroom, no big deal. He arranges private quarters for Astraea, nothing there to worry about. Why didn't he stay around and be honest with me?"
"He didn't say anything about Astraea?"
"No" Amy admitted, "he did. He said he was confused. But I pushed and pushed until he proposed again. I wanted him to propose before we know if it's his baby or not, cause I didn't want him proposing just cause it's his child. But now that I have what I wanted, I'm not sure it's worth anything. I came back with an answer to a question I don't think Charybdis really wanted to ask anymore."

"Oh Amy, this is a conversation you should be having with Charybdis, not me," Brie said with a sigh. "I can't tell you what he wants or what he's thinking. I do believe that he really cares about you if that's any consolation. Every encounter that he and I have had since I returned from the Galactica has been about you."
"If he talked to you, why didn't he talk to my mom?" Amy wondered.
"He barely has talked to me," Brie replied. "But I'm pretty sure that your mom wasn't here the whole time you were out of it. They really needed her back on the Agro Ship. It was in a state of total disarray after Pierce, and the fleet's food supply was at risk. With your dad gone everything fell on her shoulders. As a warrior you know as well as I do that you have to put the welfare of the fleet ahead of your personal life. Your mom was asked to do the same, so she couldn‘t stay by your side the entire time."

"He sure seemed to have time for Astraea, from what I've heard" Amy replied with a hint of bitterness. "And there's also such a thing as a com link. I wouldn't excuse him. My mom might not of thought to call him, considering how cold Charybdis and I had been in our relationship. But he could have called her."
"But you're right. I should be having this out with him. And if he survives, you're penciled in as Matron of Honor." She sat back. "What else has been going on? I'm still not used to the idea that I've missed so much time."

“I've been out of the loop too, I'm afraid," Brie replied. "I was arrested as soon as I returned to the Callisto and spent quite a bit of time in the brig. I had visitors and could watch IFB, but there was a lot of stuff that no one told me. It was more me trying to figure out what Pierce was up to and how I could prove that he had had Turner murdered. Then after the Agro Ship debacle I was brought back here and almost died. I finally woke up, Commander Apollo told me his whole plan and how the tribunal was fixed, I had a few visitors and could watch IFB, but there was a lot of stuff that no one told me. I had the heart attack, had surgery on my leg where I had been shot, almost died again when my doctor tried to kill me, was in a coma for a while and then I woke up. Ever since Doc released me for light duty I’ve been trying to get caught up. In fact, if you’ll excuse me for a centon...” Brie grabbed her walker and made her way to the computer in the corner of the room. “Frack,” she said after typing in her security code. “Skyler was supposed to keep me informed, and it looks like they’ve launched already. Frack!”
“What’s going on?” Amy asked. “Charybdis was called away when he was here earlier...”
“There was an alert,” Brie replied. “I sent Skyler to answer the call, since I’m supposed to be,” she made quotation marks in the air, “‘concentrating on healing.’ Light duty is one thing, but I’d like to know what’s going on. I DO still run this squadron.” Brie sat back down. “Here’s something that you probably don’t know. You were nominated for Squadron leader this past election. Gave me a run for my money from what I understand. So see, my friend, Gold Squadron still stands behind you.”

"That's good to know" Amy said. "At least I have that. The various tribunals seem to have taken the rest. I think they could hold a tribunal about a clogged turboflush and somehow it would come down to my personal life." She laughed, and Brie did too. "I really got nominated?"
Brie nodded.
"Huh. I'm not used to having much support." Amy looked down. "None at all, actually. Except growing up I had one person who had me believing I could do anything."
"Who was that?"
"The guy who worked security on the agro ship. He inspired me to dream big. He said I was the best he'd ever seen. That I could do anything. Isn't that nice? He took me under his wing. I think he could tell I was a pretty lost soul back then." She smiled. "I'm sure I must have mentioned him before. He's the main reason I am who I am today. His name is Ange."

Brie felt a knot growing in her stomach. "Yeah, you've mentioned him," she said coldly. She paused only a micron. "So, have you had a chance to catch any of General Sickbay?" she asked cheerily. "I'm not the type who would normally watch but there wasn't a whole lot to do while I was in the brig. And Amy, that Doctor Noah that they just brought back..." She fanned herself with her hand.
“What do you have against Ange?” Amy asked. “You don’t even know him.”
“We’ve met,” Brie replied. “I almost threw up on his shoes on the Agro Ship.”
“That’s not knowing someone,” Amy reminded her. “And as I said, Ange has had a huge influence on my life.”
“Ain’t that the truth,” Brie mumbled.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
"Brie what's up?" Amy asked. "You obviously don't like Ange, even though you only met him the one time. Why?"
"I don't trust him," Brie replied honestly. "Security was really tight around here, several members of Pierce's group were found right here in the Callisto med lab. You were allowed no visitors without your mother's permission but Ange lied and said that he was your uncle so he could see you."
"That's no big deal," Amy replied. "He's like an uncle to me."
“It doesn’t matter,” Brie replied, trying to keep her anger in check. “Rules are rules, and they’re not made to be broken. Being a head of security Ange should know better than that. If he wanted to see you he should followed proper procedure.” Brie hoped that Amy bought her explanation. She could never let her know the real reason she hated Ange.

"Well" Amy replied, "I think it's really sweet that he did visit. Maybe he had to get around the rules for some reason, but no harm done, right?"
"You know what I think? When I'm out of here I'm going to celebrate, and then you and Ange finally can meet. You'll see he's not a bad guy. He's great when you get to know him. You can't possibly know what he's like from just one brief meeting."

I know EXACTLY what he’s like from one just brief meeting Brie thought to herself. You’ve known him most of your life, but I’m the one who knows what he’s really like. “Sorry, no time,” she said at last. “As I said, I have a lot of catching up to do. Plus physical therapy, if I ever want to regain flight status or for that matter walk unassisted again. Did I tell you that my physical therapist is a real task master? But he knows how to get the job done.”
“You’re changing the subject,” Amy observed.
Brie sighed. “Sorry, I just don’t want to talk about Ange.” For a brief micron she again felt like she and Amy had held this conversation before.
“Why?” Amy asked.
“Because I’m sick and tired of hearing about the big hero from the Agro Ship!” Brie lied. “That’s all anyone wanted to talk about for awhile, how Ange saved the fleet. I was setup to look like an incompetent leader, I was sent to the brig, I was drugged and kidnapped, I was shot four times, I was the one beat up by your friends, I was the one who found the bomb and figured out how to get rid of the fracking thing so no one else got hurt. I almost died because of what Pierce and his followers did on the Agro Ship, but they want to give Ange a medal! For doing his job!”
“You were doing your job also,” Amy pointed out.
“No I wasn’t,” Brie replied. “I had been court-martialed and discharged. I was just a lowly convict at the time.” She blew a piece of hair out of her face. “Worst part is you know who who nominated him for the decoration? Justin! See if I ever kiss him again.” Although the last part had slipped out, Brie hoped that it was enough to make Amy change the subject.

"Okay, okay" Amy said, raising a hand. "No more about Ange. If you feel that strongly about..." She suddenly looked over at Brie. "Wait a micron. Did you just say what I thought you said? You and Major Justin...?"

Although she was glad that Amy took the bait Brie started to blush. She glanced towards the open door, leaned closer to Amy and lowered her voice just above a whisper. "I've been dying to tell someone, but besides you I don't really have any girlfriends. It's not exactly the type of thing I could discuss with Skyler. After the mission the Callisto had jumped with the fleet. The Pylos and a group from Black Squadron had to land on the Galactica, and we just barely made it. Justin was bugging me like crazy! He kept trying to get me to talk because he knew that I was upset about leaving you guys behind, but you know me, I tend to internalize things. There was a housing mix-up and somehow he and I were assigned to the same quarters. I just happened to have a bottle of grog and we ended up sharing it. He still kept trying to get me to talk. He was driving me absolutely insane. We actually got into a bit of a wrestling match which I would have won if I hadn’t injured my arm on the moon.”
“You would have won?” Amy teased.
“Hey, it’s a matter of squadron pride,” Brie replied. She lowed her voice again. “All I wanted was for him to leave but nothing worked, not the wrestling, not yelling at him or insulting him, so I tried a different tactic. I kissed him. I figured he’d run as far away as possible.”
“It didn‘t work?” Amy asked.
Brie started to blush again. “No. Amy, it was incredible. Neither one of us really thought about what we were doing. The fact that we were drunk kind of blurred our judgment.”
“Did you...?”
“No!” Brie said quickly. “But it went further than it should have. Then Pierce walked in and...oh frack.”
“What?” Amy asked.
“Nothing,” Brie replied. “I just remembered something that I need to ask my protector about.”
“So what’s happened since?” Amy wanted to know.
“Justin has been great,” Brie said. “He broke up with his girlfriend, stood by me during the tribunal, actually visited me while I was in the brig even though I told him to stay away, saved my life on the Agro Ship and sat by my bed when I was in sick bay. We talked before my second coma and he’d really like to, I don’t know, see what we could have between us, but I told him that we should just be friends.”
“Why?” Amy asked.
Brie rolled her eyes. “He’s a squadron leader. Can you imagine it, fighting each other for the most dangerous assignments so that the other wouldn’t be in danger? It wouldn’t work. Plus he’s eleven yahrens younger than I am. Eleven yahrens! Do you have any idea how big a difference that is?”
