"Though" she added. "Meeting you was worth a 5 yahren wait. I'm glad it happened." She leaned forward slightly, her dark brown eyes looking closely at Brik. "If only our worlds weren't so far apart..."
Thumpthumpthumpthumpthump...
Brik's heart and head were agreed that things were becoming a new shade of interesting!
He spoke very softly, relishing the closeness of this woman...
"Ally, you are a magnificent Warrior and pilot and a very complex, and beautiful, woman. I have no doubt that you can do great things whenever you truly set your mind to it. And as for our worlds being so far apart..." He leaned in just as she had, bringing their faces very close... He spoke softly again. "...You should know, as a pilot, that worlds move and things change. Amazing things can happen if you are prepared to take a chance."
He moved in even closer and spoke even more softly...
"Would you have dinner with me on the Rising Star when this is over?"
Thumpthumpthumpthumpthump...

The nearness of Brik had Ally's heart beating faster. His eyes had her mesmerized, and when she breathed it was coming in short raspy breaths. Waves of emotion spread through her; excitement, curiousity, affection, euphoria, and she didn't know what to do with any of it.
"I'd love to" she managed to say at last, her voice as raspy as her breathing. She blinked a few times as if to break the spell, and sat back, shielding herself by sipping at her coffee. She tried to act calm, but her mind raced.
What is it, Ally? You know you like him. Like him a LOT. But you're crazy. It'd never work. You move in a different world. You'd never see him. But lord those eyes. The way he talks to you. Just tell him. Blurt it out. GO FOR IT! What are you afraid of? You're acting like child. Just tell him. TELL HIM...
Her hand shook as she lowered the cup. She banged it as she tried to set it on the table.
"Caffine rush" she said lamely with a short laugh. Letting the mug go, she ran a hand through her hair, stopping near the back, holding on to try to keep her hand steady. She looked away to her left, at nothing in particular.
Magnificent... beautiful... no one had described her that way before and really meant it. And no one, ever, had even acknowledged that she had a mind...
Now tears were coming. Caught by surprise she tried blinking them away, then reached for the napkin next to her coffee. She wiped at her eyes, smiling and sniffling at the same time.
"I'm sorry, Brik" she said. "I'm a mess and I'm not even sure why." Oh you know why. "I'd love to have dinner with you. I can't think of anything I'd like better." She had the urge to excuse herself, run off to the ladies room again, but she wasn't sure if her legs could be trusted.

Skyler's boots hit the flight deck as he climbed down from his inspection of the Viper and turned to face Logan. She stood with her arms crossed and a serious expression on her face. He had known her long enough to know that something was bothering her and also to know that she would waste no time in getting to the point, so he wiped his brow and copied her stance. Arms folded, feet planted firmly on the deck, head tilted slightly to one side. Even in a serious situation, he couldn't resist the chance to give her grief.
She broke into a grin when she realized he was mocking her. "Alright. You know whats coming. So what the frack are we doing? Does Apollo have a plan?" Logan could see him absorbing the questions and before he could open his mouth to speak she piped up again, "And don't give me any felgercarb about 'protocol' and 'command procedure', if you know something just tell me. I heard you called to the Bridge and I know Brie is on medical leave. I'm not going to rest until this is done...whatever THIS is. Are we really just going to sit here and let that Tinhead Behemoth hang in the vapor or are we going to blow it to Hades like we should have done before we were recalled in the first place?"
Skyler looked like he was going to say something, but thought better of it. She knew not just any Warrior could be so blunt with Skyler. He was CO of Gold Squadron and Logan took that very seriously, but they were also friends with a long history of being blunt with each other. Mutual admiration and respect had fostered that kind of honesty between them.
So now, she stood and waited for his response.

By the Great Lords of Kobol... He, Brik, had just actually asked a real life woman on a date. Then... She. Said. Yes!
Oh FRACK,what should he do now? He honestly hadn't planned this far ahead and had never actually been in this situation before. He was highly experienced in combat and space-flight but was completely novice when it came to romance and the female of his species.
He looked at her. Her hand shook as she lowered the cup. She banged it as she tried to set it on the table.
"Caffine rush" she said with a short laugh. Letting the mug go, she ran a hand through her hair, stopping near the back and looked away to her left. He thought that she was absolutely stunning, and knowing what she'd been through in the last little while only made him appreciate this moment all the more.
Now tears were coming. Caught by surprise she tried blinking them away, then reached for the napkin next to her coffee. She wiped at her eyes, smiling and sniffling at the same time.
"I'm sorry, Brik" she said. "I'm a mess and I'm not even sure why. I'd love to have dinner with you. I can't think of anything I'd like better."
Ok, Brik old man, keep your brain on-line!
"Ally, you have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and..." He took her hands in his and looked at her wonderful face, continuing his words: "and you aren't remotely a mess, in my eyes!" With that, he reached up, picked up the napkin, wiped her tears and smiled at her, hoping with all of him to see her smile back. He would never have believed that the smile of someone he just met would ever be so important.

Suddenly what Ally needed to do was the most important thing in the world to her. She'd never felt such an overwhelming feeling come over her before. It had a life of it's own, and Ally was swept away by it.
Exactly what it was that triggered it was hard for Ally to explain. It was the way Brik treated her, talked to her that was a huge part of it, but there was something else as well.
Maybe it was how close she'd come to death just microns earlier, her out of control viper tumbling close enough to the landing bay that she could almost feel death's hand sweeping by her....
Maybe it was how close Brik himself had come to death, his high engine leaking fluid into the vaccum of space as she'd raced to his rescue, her heart in her throat...
Or maybe she'd suddenly felt exactly, at that very moment, what it meant to be truly alive, and that the human race must survive, the proof plain as day in the depths of Brik's beautiful eyes...
Whatever it was, Ally had never felt or acted this way before. And she was no longer afraid of being rejected, looking foolish, or any of the other thoughts that had up to then clouded her mind.
She took the napkin from Brik and set it on the table. "Come on" she said, taking hold of his hand and standing up. He seemed to hesitate, but her grip on his hand was firm as she walked to the ready room door.
Out in the hall she stopped at the corner. No one was nearby. She turned to Brik, held his head with both hands, and stood on her tiptoes to reach his lips. She held back at the last moment, close enough to feel his breath on her face, and then lightly, gently, she kissed him.

She held back at the last moment, close enough to feel his breath on her face, and then lightly, gently, she kissed him. She was kissing him. SHE was KISSING him! Thumpthumpthumpthumpthump!!!!!!!!!Looking at her face, he saw her eyes closed in the tradition of the kiss and, although it made him feel like a bit of a cheat, he kept his eyes open for just a moment making certain that this moment was real. Time stopped long enough for him to truly take everything in. The very pleasing warmth of her next to him. The softness of her lips. He knew she'd never believe him in a million yahrens, but she smelled...intoxicating. (Many years later he would still be wondering if that had been the actual smell of pheremones, the scent of attraction...but not remotely was that in his current thoughts.)Then time worked again as it normally did and Brik, always at least trying to be the practical man...closed his eyes, put his arms around this most amazing woman and, with a gentle passion, returned her kiss and hoped that this moment would last for a good little while.

Slowly Ally became aware of her surroundings again. Her eyes opened, and she gently pulled away and slowly sank down off her tiptoes. She was slightly out of breath, feeling very warm and a little self conscious.
She put a hand gently on Brik's chest and backed up a step. She looked up at him and smiled. "I don't... normally... do something like that" she said, fumbling for the words. "I don't... know what came over me." She let out a half laugh, cleared her throat, and knew for as certain as there are lords of Kobol that she didn't regret what she had done....

Brik felt her hand on his chest and heard her speak.
She looked up at him and smiled. "I don't... normally... do something like that" she said, fumbling for the words. "I don't... know what came over me." She let out a half laugh and cleared her throat.
"That's okay" he replied nervously, "Something like that never happens to me, and this...this" he emphasized as he held her hands in his, "...This is something that I never do either. But it's always been true that I took no chances outside of the viper. I guess possibly being killed was better than possibly being hurt. And...I always regretted being so afraid."
He was simply stunned at his ability to talk to her. This was all simply amazing!
"I can't tell you how glad I am that you did something that you normally wouldn't...and I hope that you feel the same. And..." He started to blush and look at his feet as he spoke, then paused as if he'd resolved something and looked her directly in the eyes. "...That was a wonderful kiss and I look forward to doing that again."
And thus, he put his arms around her and kissed her. It was everything that he'd hoped
Afterward, as she looked at him with suprise, he simply said, "It was my turn. Just like in the battle, I owed you one."
He looked around, noting that (oddly enough) they remained alone.
"Ally...I want very much to get to know you better but we remain on alert and still have a job to do. However, I see no reason why we can't do both and you definitely know the condition of my ship." He grinned at her. "SO..." He rose to his full height and gained an expression of professionalism mixed with humor and joy. He offered her his arm. "Lady Ally...it would be my honor to have your company and conversation as we proceed to the flight deck."
This woman was more than he'd known a woman and warrior could be. All of that skill and courage...AND she was a great kisser who had managed to smell good at the end of a long, battle-hard, life-threatening and personally embarassing day. Simply amazing.
He was a Colonial Warrior with a job to do and a Cylon Basestar just hanging nearby like a dormant monster needing to be vanquished. He had to replace his ship as well as be physically and mentally ready to go into battle at any time.
But now he prepared to walk to the flight deck with a warm and hopeful heart, a refreshed soul and the feeling that he had more to fight for than he did just one cycle earlier.
And she still smelled really nice.

"Ally..." Brik had said, "I want very much to get to know you better but we remain on alert and still have a job to do. However, I see no reason why we can't do both and you definitely know the condition of my ship."
He'd grinned at her. "SO..." he said, offering her his arm, "Lady Ally...it would be my honor to have your company and conversation as we proceed to the flight deck."
Ally took his arm laughing, but her smile faded quickly. That's how it was being a warrior. A few fleeting moments of life sandwiched in and around the call of duty.
Duty... it meant different things depending on one's squadron. No wonder he's looking forward to what's next. He's in Gold. He'll be right in the thick of whatever comes up...
For Ally, it meant meeting back up with Bronze Squadron. After missing the relaunch, her squadron had headed back out and was due to return any micron. She'd have to report to Jorlan, and he'd be happy to see her. But then what? She wondered if Bronze was even part of the next mission.
She held Brik's hand, squeezing it as they walked. She leaned closer and rested her head on his arm, for she wasn't quite tall enough to reach his shoulder. Separate worlds... she knew it would happen eventually, but as soon as they reached the flight deck his world would split off from hers.
He was interested in her, that was true. But would it be enough? Seeing each other when their paths crossed? How often would that be with him on patrols and her on solium leak duty? It hadn't happened in the 5 yarhens she was a warrior. Would it be another 5? It be never if she didn't re-enlist...
Oh Ally. Why did you put yourself through this?
Cause I wanted it more than anything, she replied to herself. I couldn't have stopped any of it if I tried. I think I'm in love. Think? I AM in love. And for that I'm hurting more than I ever did in battle.
One thought struck her. Ask. Why not? If this turns out to be the only moment you'll ever have, then ask.
She looked up at Brik, not bothering to hide her feelings of sadness and impending loss. "Brik?" she asked. "What's your real name?"

Brik walked down the corridor taking in the entirety of it all (that had happened a lot lately).
He rejoiced in the closeness of her, the feeling of her hand in his...and the memories of her kiss haunting his lips.
How could it be that in all of these years he had never once seen her? Heard anything about her, good or bad? It was all enough to make him truly concerned about the way an entire squadron was being treated, maybe others. It was appalling!
One thing was certain.
He was prepared to do whatever it took to impress her and convince her that he was worth the risk. He believed, as short a time as it had been, that he was in love with her and was now eager for the time to be appropriate to tell her so. He didn't want to frighten her. To loose her just as he'd found her would simply be too much.
Hmmnn...he'd also have to find a way to "accidentally" run into her, perhaps, also by chance, carrying with him a box-lunch for two...
They stopped walking.
She looked up at Brik, not bothering to hide her feelings of sadness and impending loss. "Brik?" she asked. "What's your real name?"
He looked at her with increased respect.
He leaned over and placed his lips close to her ear but not quite touching it (he couldn't help but be pleased, yet again, by her smell).
Almost as softly as before, he spoke: "I would love to tell you, but I can tell ONLY you and you can tell NO ONE, no matter what occurs. I want it to be special because it will be our first secret together." He kissed her quickly on the cheek before he continued... "My name is..."
He told her his name as he had told it to no other since the destruction of the Colonies and the flight from the Homelands.
Then he placed his hand back in hers and waited for her reaction.
