"Well, to be honest, I don't know yet. We will get to blast that flying scrap yard to the tiny bits its designed to become, but not just yet. They have something we need, and thats all I can say about it at this time."
"What the Frack is that suspossed to..." Logan started, but Skyler cut her off.
"Telling you to rest is pointless. I wouldn't be able to either. So, grab a hot meal, and it might be a wise idea to check and clean blasters and any assualt gear you might find." Skyler winked at her and a look of disbelief crossed her faced.
"You don't mean that.." she stopped when Skylers communicator went off...
"Capt, the files on the Basestar you requested are ready."
"I don't mean anything.... now, if you will excuse me, I have a mission to plan, and I am going to need our best, so you get Gold Squadron squared away." looking towards the open door of the ready room he saw Brik and Ally heading towards the Flight Deck, hand in hand, the unmistaken look of a love struck Daggit on Brik's face. Rolling his eyes Skyler thought 'no one deserves happiness more than you my friend, but with what we have ahead of us now, I wished you would have waited.
"get them ready, and get Brik to help. I gotta go, but I will be back soon...." Skyler took off at a fast walk towards the records labs.

Ally looked up sharply as Brik whispered his name.
"Really?" she asked, trying to mask her surprise. "Any relation to..."

He looked at her closely for a long moment,as if making sure of something.
Then he simply nodded... "Yes, the one and only."
Again, he waited...

Ally stared at Brik, her hands wrapped in his. Her mouth opened several times as if to speak, but no words came.
At the sound of an alarm they both turned to look toward the landing deck. The bell was a familiar one, for it meant vipers were about to land. Bronze squadron was returning from patrol, and it would then be time for Ally to rejoin her unit.
She turned back toward Brik, the urgency of time running out helping her find the words. "Brik" she said softly, "I am honored that you would confide in me your identity. Your secret is safe with me. Always. And I just want you to know that who you are won't change a thing in my eyes."
She turned again toward the deck, and this time vipers were coming into view as they contacted the deck. Major Jorlan was among them, and she knew she'd have to seek him out and report in before he had a chance to leave the bay.
"I guess this is where we split up" she said. She turned back toward him, squeezing his hands firmly. "May the lords be with you Brik, in whatever is to come." She boosted up on her tiptoes and kissed him quickly on the lips.

As Ally's boots connected with the deck again after kissing Brik, she noticed him looking over her shoulder."Uh oh," he said.
"Uh oh? What is it?" She glanced behind her and saw that Logan was walking purposefully in their direction.
He saw his friend across the flight deck. "Hey Logan!" he cried out, getting her attention. "I saw you talking to Skyler, what's the plan?"
"Logan has that look on her face. Something's going on. Something serious."
Ally looked at the approaching Warrior, her stride was long and her hand rested on the blaster at her hip. She didn't look like anything was wrong. "What look?"
"That 'Someone has to be fracking out of their minds' look." Brik had been friends with Logan long enough to be able to know when she was upset about something. Her shoulders were pushed back and her head was tilted to the side. Subtle clues that all but those closest to her would dismiss. But, he knew the signs.
Logan stopped in front of the two and sighed under her breath. She really hated to break up what was obviously a pair of lonely people finding strength in each other against the backdrop of chaos that made up their everyday lives. She found herself envying them at this moment. Happiness was fleeting and she was happy for her good friend, Brik. And her new friend, Ally. When had that happened? When had Ally been able to get into Logan's thoughts as a friend? Logan didn't make friends easily. The ones she had she was fiercely loyal to. She knew that out in the battle, while she was helping Ally reset her stabilizers, some sort of kinship had formed. Warriors doing what it took. She respected and admired Ally's determination. And the fact that Brik obviously had made an instant connection with the girl spoke volumes. She trusted his judgement implicitly. She didn't say that about many people.
Logan was also aware that Ally was paying careful attention to the fact that Jorlan and Bronze were now landing.
"Brik, Ally, someone has to be fracking out of their minds," she said and noticed that Ally looked at Brik in surprise. He gave Ally's hand a squeeze and smiled at her. Then, turning his attention back to Logan said, "What is the plan?"
"Skyler won't say. But we have to get assault gear ready." She waited for his expression to change and wasn't waiting for long.
"Are you serious?" Brik's expression grew stern for a micron, then a slow smile crept over his face.

As this entire portion of the conversation had wound itself together and he awaited her reply to his revelation, Brik's heart had become lodged in his throat. He was awash in his own worries as he awaited her reply. What am I thinking?!? I've told no one my identity since leaving the Colonies those many yahrens ago. In fact, I'd almost forgotten the knowledge of my true name, a name that I had quite comfortably left with the rest of my old life on Tauron. Although, the telling of my tale...and the release of an old secret has been more satisfying than I had anticipated and I'm glad that I've taken the chance. I hope that this goes well...I think that I love her."Brik" she said softly, "I am honored that you would confide in me your identity. Your secret is safe with me. Always. And I just want you to know that who you are won't change a thing in my eyes." He had no idea of what to say for he hadn't truly known that he was going to tell her. So, he simply allowed the moment to form itself. He looked at her directly and smiled at her while his right hand reached up to gently caress her beautiful her face. "I guess this is where we split up" she said. She turned back toward him, squeezing his hands firmly. "May the lords be with you Brik, in whatever is to come." She boosted up on her tiptoes and kissed him quickly on the lips. There were times when being around other warriors had it's advantages and this was one of them, for he knew that they both had responsibilities to their respective squadrons as well as to the Fleet that held the only known remnants of the Colonial Society. But he had to speak to her one more time...he found that he was enjoying these moments with her more than he thought a person could. Before she could get away, he held on to her hands for just another moment, long enough to tell her "You are amazing...and I believe that I've been waiting for you for quite some time. Perhaps my whole life." He felt it almost a crime to part from her here and now, at the fragile beginning of a great thing. But they had a noble yet grim job and it was time to return to it. He sighed. "I will see you later. In the meantime...watch your six and be careful out there, you have a date with me on the Rising Star!" He turned to go...and had a quick inspiration. He leaned down just a bit a kissed her quickly on the lips and smiled again as he turned to go check in and see about getting a viper. As he turned he realized that the information was coming to him and did not look pleased. He saw his friend across the flight deck. "Hey Logan!" he cried out, getting her attention. "I saw you talking to Skyler, what's the plan?"

"See you, Brik" Ally said. "You too Logan. Guess it's time to play soldier again."
She turned and walked away, her grip on Brik's hands lingering a moment before she slipped free. She entered the bay, and watched as Bronze Squadron flew in one by one. She spotted Major Jorlan's viper, and walked towards it as it came to a rest. Jorlan popped his canopy and smiled as he saw her.
"Lt. Ally!" he shouted. He hopped down as she came alongside the ship. "I'd heard you'd made it back. Thank the lords."
"Sorry I missed the re-launch, sir" Ally said. "My viper was damaged. How was the patrol?"
"Nothing out there" Jorlan replied. "The raiders seem to have all fled or been destroyed. There's just the baseship left, inside the atmosphere of the planet, still playing dead. It was very quiet out there."
"No wonder Bronze got the patrol" Ally remarked. Jorlan just smiled briefly and looked at the corner of a panel on the side of his viper for a moment. Then he turned to face her.
"I heard you did Bronze proud flying with Gold Squadron" he said. "Good work, Lieutenant."
"Thank you sir. Any chance we're in on the next mission?" she asked.
"I don't know that yet" Jorlan replied. "Be ready for anything. I'm sure that core command will consider us fairly in any operation being planned."
"Then I should have my solium-leak suit ready?" Ally asked sarcasticly.
Jorlan shook his head, gently putting a hand on Ally's shoulder. "Careful. Your 'Little Tude' is showing." He'd said the nickname with fondness, and Ally smiled at it's mention. "And honestly for once, it's good to hear. I was worried I'd lost you. No, what I meant was, be ready for anything. There's talk of sending troops inside the ship."
Ally laughed, though she didn't sound happy. "Like we'd be a part of that."
Jorlan laughed too. "Somebody has to make sure there's no solium leaks!"
Ally laughed this time, for real.
"What's the status of your viper?" Jorlan asked.
Ally's smile disappeared. "Uh, I don't know sir. The stabilizer took a hit and..."
"That was then, Lieutenant. What about now?"
"I don't know, sir" she repeated.
"What have you been doing all this time?" Jorlan wanted to know.
"Uh, I've been in the ready room..."
Jorlan nodded. "Now the very nature of the ready room implies that anyone using it is, in fact, ready. Correct?"
"Yes sir" Ally replied, stiffening a little.
"I have a meeting on the bridge" Jorlan announced. "I'll expect to be filled in completely on your flying status when I return. Also be prepared for infiltration if we are so chosen."
"Yes sir" Ally said.
Jorlan studied Ally's face. "You okay?" he asked. "You seem different somehow."
Ally's eyes darted for a moment, then she just shrugged her shoulders.
Jorlan looked at her closely some more, then stepped away. "Very well. Carry on, Lieutenant."
"Yes sir" Ally replied. She saluted and stepped past the major to check on her viper. Jorlan turned and watched her walk away for a moment, then headed for an elevator to be taken to the bridge.

"Skyler won't say. But we have to get assault gear ready." She waited for his expression to change and wasn't waiting for long.
"Are you serious?" Brik's expression grew stern for a micron, then a slow smile crept over his face. He took in a deep breath and began the mental process of actually assimilating the latest great and unexpected turn his life had made. He looked at his friend. "First things first, Logan!" he said in an annoyed tone. She looked confused for just a hair of a micron, just long enough to truly amuse him. Then he smiled broadly and took his friend in his arms and hugged her strongly, kissing her quickly on the cheek as he finished. Now she looked really confused and it was great! "My dear friend, I believe that I may be in love and I know that you had a significant hand to play in giving me a fighting chance while in the ready room with a certain woman. For that I thank you!" Stepping back from his long-time comrade, Brik just looked at her and smiled (again). No one dared tell him that he looked like a love-sick school boy...but today he wouldn't have cared if they did.

Ally's mind was still on Brik, but Jorlan had made his point. Time to earn your cubits, warrior. But still, she wished she'd had a longer time with him to talk some more. Yeah Ally, talk is what you were interested in... She smiled. Brik was an interesting man, in many ways.... Concentrate Ally! There's a job to do!
Ally went over to where her viper stood in 'repair row'. The tech she'd met upon landing was still in charge of seeing if the ship could be turned around quickly enough to launch with the next mission. If not it would be pushed out and away to be looked at another day.
"Hey" she said as she walked up to him. He was underneath the rear portion of the ship, a dangle of wires and tubes hanging in front of his face as he poked around. He didn't look at her, only grunted as he lay there and continued to work.
Ally stood there for a moment, then climbed the ladder to the cockpit. She peeked in, noticing that it looked nearly spotless. Amazingly so, considering how she'd lost her lunch over just about every inch of it's interior.
"Looks pretty good in here" she said. "Smells good too" she added as she hopped back down.
"You're welcome" the tech said flatly. He kicked a leg as if to point at something. "You can empty the shopvac if you're interested in lending a hand."
Ally looked at it, scrunching up her nose. "Aw, I just got a clean uniform on..."
He slid out from under the ship, a look of death in his eyes. He was just about to say something when she put up a hand. "Kidding!" she said. "Just kidding!" She walked toward the vac muttering "Geez, and they call me L-Tude...."

Continuity alert!
Ally's story continues in "36L: Ally and Bronze Squad prepare".
Since Ally's story is separate now (until it links up again anyway) I figured this would make both the Logan/Brik story and the Ally story easier to follow.
