(continued from 36L -'Ally and bronze squad prepare' (Ally) and 36J-'Pilots in the ready room' (Brik)...)
Ally was headed across the bay when she heard her name being called from somewhere behind her. Sounds tended to echo around the deck at times, and she wasn't sure where the voice was coming from. She stopped, having a quick look around her just to be sure she wasn't hearing things, and then she saw Brik coming toward her.
It was good to see him again, and it felt good that he'd called out to her. He hasn't forgotten me. And even though we're in different squadrons maybe we'll see more of each other than we think we would....

Seeing her was good, as good as he'd hoped!
Is she as happy to see me as I am her? What if she's...changed her mind?
"Hi!" he said as he walked purposely toward her, walking not just with a purpose but on purpose. It was all he could do not to run.
Momentarily not having a care about their location or any passers-by, he immediately lifted her up in to a hug and prepared to kiss this amazing woman, when...
Stopping in mid-spin and placing her back on her feet, he looked at the blooming mark on her face, the one that wasn't there when last he saw her. That was not from the battle with the cylons.
He gingerly placed his fingers near her bruise. Leaning close, just as he had earlier but for a far more solemn reason, he spoke in low and even tones. "Ally, that bruise is new and from a person. I can tell. Who did this to you?"
His suprise would have to wait. Hers had been larger.
As he waited for her reply, he thought of the little things she'd said about Bronze Squadron. Could this have been one of them? Could a Colonial Warrior on the Callisto have done such a thing?!?! Only a mangy daggit could sink so low...!

I knew it, she thought, Half my face must be one big bruise. She hoped it wouldn't be too noticable, but the captain had seen it easily enough, and now Brik....
"It's nothing" she replied at last, though the tone of her voice said otherwise. "Don't worry about it, okay?"
She glanced around behind her, the way she had come, hoping nobody'd seen him pick her up. She was pretty sure no one had. It's not that she minded, though she did wonder where the shy and respectful behavior had gone. Love has a way of changing things, she thought.
Love. Love! It relieved her to know that she wasn't imagining what was happening between them. Things had just gotten a little complicated for her was all.
She looked back at him and smiled. His expression was so serious. She reached up, placing a hand on the side of his face for a moment. "Come on" she said. "Talk and walk. I'm on duty at the moment." She put her hand in his and began to lead the way.
Looking over at him she still saw the serious look. "It's not too bad is it?" she asked, forcing her voice to be cheerful. "I haven't had a chance to look in a mirror...."

Trying to think of something that was truthful but not hurtful...
"Um..." he began as he stopped her and took a good look at the bruise again, "I've seen worse. Although it'll get really tender soon and hurt like Hades if it doesn't already. You should be treated."
Although his new love...his new love was hurt he was nonetheless eager to show her what he'd done and hoped that it might please her, even rasie her spirits. So, placing his hand back in hers and leading her toward his Viper...
"Ally..." He swallowed. Hard. "I have something to show you and I hope that you like it and approve of it!" His large 'I love Ally' smile had returned.
As they continued to walk Brik saw that already a small part of his plan was working as her face forgot it's injury for a moment and welcomed a smile composed of joy and curiosity.
They stopped walking and Ally noticed that they were standing next to Brik's Viper. Why would she have to like and approve of him receiving another ship? Then he moved a small screen out of the way...
And she saw her very own name painted eloquently onto the hull of this Viper. Apparently this Viper had been named "Ally". He spoke before she could, full of nervous energy, and hoped to explain his actions.
"As I told you...men call their ships and weapons and vehicles 'she' because it's the woman that we trust to bring us home safely...and you've already done so, more than once. It seemed fitting, y'know?"
He waited to see the reaction in her face...

Ally didn't know what to say. Naming ships, aside from the obvious titles like "Callisto" and "Starliner Alpha", seemed silly to her. But Brik took it seriously and to have named his ship after her was an honor.
"Well" she said finally, "This way at least a part of me will fly with Gold Squadron. Thank you, Brik. I'm honored. I really am."
She looked around nervously. "But I'm still on duty right now. I'm supposed to be on the other side of the bay checking on..."
"Lieutenant!" a voice shouted out, full of authority, the call echoing in the cavernous bay.
Ally closed her eyes, opened them again, raised her eyebrows at Brik, then turned to face the captain of Bronze squadron. "Yes sir" Ally replied, standing at attention.
"If you've found out the condition of your viper you should be at the target range, isn't that right mister?"
"Yes sir" Ally replied. Then "no sir!"
"No sir what?" the captain asked.
"I haven't gotten a report on my viper yet, sir." Ally stood straight, staring ahead, kicking herself for being caught a third time without her report.
"I'd suggest maybe someone to hold your hand might help, but I see that just slows you down more, doesn't it?" The captain looked from Ally to Brik. "Gold Squadron, eh?" he said. He looked again at Ally. "Well Lieutenant, last time I checked you were in Bronze squadron, yes?"
"Yes sir!" Ally replied.
"And you have your orders" the captain reminded her. "Save your sightseeing for off duty hours. Dismissed."
Ally saluted and spun on her heel, walking toward where her viper was being worked on. The captain stared at Brik until he too turned and headed in the same direction, a few paces behind Ally. The captain stared after them both until they disappeared from his view.
Weasel was right, he thought, there was more going on than Ally or Bulk-up was willing to admit. He'd have to keep a closer eye on them, that was certain. Ally, Bulk-up, and this Lieutenant Brik as well.

Walking behind Ally Brik was terribly unsure as to how to handle this...or if he should.
With this new relationship and all of the feelings that went with it, he felt very protective and wanted to rush to her aid.
But he also recognized and remembered that she was a Colonial Warrior and has proven a capacity and desire to handle her own problems in her own way. But...part of being a couple is having reinforcements, right? So...
Catching up to her, but being careful not to take her hand given what had just happened, he walked at her side for several paces, hoping that she'd take the hint, the hint that he was AT HER SIDE. He paced her until she went to find out the status of her ship from the tech (he definitely didn't want to interrupt that, it sounded like it had become an issue, he'd been there himself) and prepared to wait patiently nearby. But just as she was almost out of whispering range he lightly touched her sleeve, just enough for her to pause.
Very lowly he said "I'll be over here if you need me."
He then took his finger away from her sleeve and walked several paces away, far enough that any conversation she had would be private but close enough to be available.
While he waited he received a visitor. Not a person but a state of mind, the kind that brings worry and doubt.
What had he put her name on his ship and why so soon? Didn't she think that the name thing was silly? FRACK! Well, maybe she wouldn't mind so much... He could take it off...but that might make it worse...if she was insulted wouldn't that be more of an insult? What about that eye? Who in engages in such felgercarb as assault on a fellow pilot and calls themselves a Colonial Warrior??!!?!? Why, he'd like to find that pilot and...
By the Lords, it was time for a fumerello and some ambrosia or blowing away some Cylons! He now vervently hoped that the mission, whatever it was, would come soon!

"Thirty centons to launch. Thirty centons to launch. All pilots to ready rooms! All pilots to ready rooms!"
He was glad to hear it...but a bit disappointed for he was still hoping to talk to Ally, especially with a dangerous mission ahead.
Luckily they were only steps away from the ready rooms so it could still happen...

Ally talked with the tech about her viper. He went on and on, listing what she could and couldn't do with it if she expected to go back out any time soon. While it wouldn't be 100%, it was in better shape now than when she flew it in, and he didn't have a problem signing off on it's condition.
Which mostly all went in one ear and out the other with Ally. She got the gist of what he was saying, but her mind was all over the place. Three times she'd been dressed down for not being prepared. It was not like her at all. She hadn't enjoyed Bronze much, but she'd always been prepared. But there'd been her experience with Gold squadron, meeting Logan, falling for Brik, then that whatever-it-was with Bulk-up.... all of it causing her to lose focus, lose control of the things she used to control with no problem.
She thanked the tech, then turned, finding Brik standing nearby. She walked over to him, unsure if she should smile or slug him for contributing to her latest brush with the Bronze captain. All over something so...
She hesitated, not bringing herself to complete the thought. She couldn't expect Brik to know her all that well yet. He didn't understand, and by naming his ship after her he thought he'd done something special. And it was special to him, and so it should be to her, at least the thought behind it anyway. But she'd told him she was on duty, and that much he'd disregarded.....
She walked up to him, still unsure what to say. She was due at the target range, but hoped she could steal a few microns before she had to go. The captain couldn't be watching her that close! And now at least she could report on her viper. "Well" she said, thinking out loud, "what a mixed up day this has been."

"I couldn't agree with you more!" he said with a feeling of relief!
He had known EXACTLY where Ally's CO was coming from when he admonished her for he'd been on both sides of such a "conversation". And as an officer in his own squadron he shouldn't have made himself apart of the conditions of her failure to aquire the report.
He looked Ally in the eyes...
"I'm sorry Ally." "What?" she said, partially confused. "I shouldn't have distracted you while you were on duty, I know better."
He sighed and shrugged absently... "But..." ah, so THAT'S the butterflies in the stomach that he'd always heard about... "...But I just wanted to do something special for you...for us...and I wanted you to see it before the mission. I wanted you to know that my 'project' was intended to convey to you how I think you and I can succeed."
"Thirty centons to launch. Thirty centons to launch. All pilots to ready rooms! All pilots to ready rooms!"
Frack! He quickly, yet very carefully, looked around to make certain that no one could see them at this particular spot.
He then, very quickly, kissed Ally on the lips, feeling her return his kiss, perhaps out of reflex, and said "I'll see you in the ready room or in the skies, Lords be with you!" And at that he fast-walked toward the ready room.

"Lords be with you too" Ally said, suddenly finding herself alone as she watched Brik answer the summons. Suddenly she found her voice, knew what she wanted to say, but it was too late now.
More distracted and conflicted than ever, she quickly turned and walked toward the target practice area where Bronze was testing their weapons. She picked up her pace and soon found herself running down the corridor.....
(Ally now returns to thread 36L -'Ally and bronze squad prepare')
