Continued from "Missions"
**
Brie walked back to the landing bay and approached JustinB again. "Is everything okay?" he asked.
"Yeah," Brie replied. "For some reason I was expecting the worst, but it turns out that Amy is out of surgery and is doing well. I guess Amy and I got our wires crossed this time." She looked around. "Anything new here?"
"Not really," Justin replied. "They don't want to move one of the wounded warriors until she's stabilized. Besides that, the rest are either already in the medlab or still in decontamination. They should be out any micron."
As if on cue Lieutenant Ike was seen rounding the corner. He was covered with cuts and bruises but didn't look worse for wear. Brie motioned for him. "What can you tell me?" she asked.
"Not too much, I'm afraid," Ike replied. "I ended up helping with fuel retrieval, which went pretty smoothly."
"Wait...I thought you were on the computer team," Brie said. "How did you end up there?"
"Captain Skyler moved me, along with Lieutenant Wraith and Captain Lazant," Ike explained. "I don't know much about what happened with the their team, I ended up on the first dropship to help with the wounded."
"What about Lazant and Wraith?" Brie asked.
"Lazant was worried about the time," Ike replied, "especially after we had a run-in with those Purple Cylons. He grabbed Wraith and they went to go find Skyler's team. I'm assuming that they're all on the second dropship."
"Okay," Brie said, realizing that there wasn't much more information that he could give. "Get checked out in the medlab, then file your report."
"I'm fine, I don't need..."
Brie cut him off. "I realize that Captain Skyler has been running the squadron in my absence, but I've returned. I am Gold Squadron's Commanding Officer, and that was a direct order. Get checked out in the medlab, then file your report, Lieutenant."
"Yes, Ma'am."
Brie looked at Justin and grinned. "It's good to be back."
As she finished her sentence an announcement was made in the landing bay. "Dropship 2 is preparing for landing. Estimated time, 5 centons."

Skyler grabbed one of the big Infantry Rifles he had brought along and headed towards the access hatch for the duct work. Microns before he arrived, it flung open and a pair of Colonial Issued boots dangled a milli centon before dropping to the deck. It was Hush, blaster in hand. Skyler smiled and looked up at the battered face of Janey. She swung her legs out and dropped herself down to the deck , Hush and Skyler easing her semi-controlled fall.
"You about missed the last ride off this fracking bucket. A few more centons and Logan and Brik would have figured out how to fly that thing over there and we would have launched."
Hush glanced across the bay and spotted the Cylon Raider, engines begining to hum. "You mean we have to ride home it that?"
"Unless you see another ship we can borrow, yep."
Hush's second glance around the bay did not produce a ship other than the lone Raider. "Frack..."
"If you are through sight seeing, we have a Raider to catch." The three Warriors were about half way to the ship when a blaster bolt struck the deck just behind them. Skyler and Hush both swung around, blaster in hand and returned fire. The Centurions had managed to clear enough debris to come through one at a time. Three of them had made it through before the first one fired. The Warriors shots were true to their mark, and the chrome plated machines fell to the deck plates in a hail of sparks and shrapnel. Hush and Skyler covered the withdrawl to the waiting Raider and Brik's hand reached down thru the hatch and grasped Janey's and pulled her up in to the ship. Just as Hush turned another blast hit the ship causing them to turn and see a Purple Cylon, who had just dropped from the duct work access hatch. Hush fired two shots, neither one having any effect. Skyler mumbled under his breath and took up a kneeling position, leveling the big rifle to his shoulder.
"Captain, Lazant said that the only thing that stopped them on the moon was a cave in, there is a port of sorts, but we can't hit it at this angle... we gotta get outta here!"
"Get on that ship I am going to show that Purple tinted toaster what a Colonial Warrior is..." The opitical sight of the big rifle lined up dead center the purple Cylon's helmet. Skyler squeezed the tigger and mumbled.... "I got your fracking cave in right here" The big rifle spat a plume of fire approx. three feet out the end of the muzzle. The barrel recoiled into the receiver just over three inches. The force of the blast and recoil nudged Skyler backwards slightly. The thunderous boom the rifle emitted almost deafened Hush. He had never heard anything like it, and stood awestruck by the shear force of such a weapon. The thing that impressed him the most was the fact that the projectile struck the Cylon, and exited out the back of his helmet, knocking him off of his feet and over onto his back. Three more silver centurions entered the bay, Skyler spun on them and fired. The round entered the first centurion and traveled through the other two before knocking a fist sized hole in the bulkhead behind them. Skyler turned and shoved Hush into the hatch just as Brik siezed him by the belt and pulled him to the side. Skyler tossed his friend the heavy weapon and reached up to pull himself in when an explosion shook the raider, causing him to lose his grip and drop back to the deck. He picked himself up and jumped up and grabbed the inside edge of the hatch and Brik hauled him the rest of the way in.
"Logan, get this Fracking thing out of here!!!" Before he had finished the sentence the Raider lunged forward just as Brik returned to his seat. Another blast struck the raider, causing it to shudder. Logan worked the controls and sent the raider into a sideways hover, still heading towards the opening and starting firing the turbolasers. Skyler drug himself to his feet and felt a sharp pain in his side. 'all of that and I pull a muscle' he thinks as he notices another purple cylon returning fire standing next the remains of the one Skyler had shot. He made his way to the center seat and dropped into it, wishing there was something he could control from this station. A micron later they were in the black and Logan had turned the ship back into straight flight.....
"Set course for the Callisto number one..." Skyler started but Logan and Brik turned and gave him a look of confusion. Skyler pointed to the two seats. "Station Number One, Navagation and Weapons, Station Number Two Flight Control and secondary Weapons." Brik smiled and went about the work of laying in the course...
"Sir, course laid in, waiting your order..." Skyler coughed once, the pulled muscle causing him more pain.....
"Engage...."

Aboard Dropship 2:
The pilot called, "Everybody, ya' better get strapped in. We're a couple of centons away from landing and we've got some wobble in a couple of the controls. Landing may be a little rough, so don't say I didn't warn ya' if you get dumped on ya'r butts."
Lucian quickly checked the deceased Trooper's straps to make sure his body wouldn't be dumped unceremoniously on the deck in the event of the potential rough landing. Feeling that it was secure, he turned back to Lazant. The spray had seemed to help at least a little, but Lazant was still rocking slightly to help him endure the remaining pain. He'd not said anything since the spray was applied, and he seemed to either concentrating on dealing with the pain, or perhaps, to be in deep thought about something, occasionally mumbling something. Once, he could have sworn he'd heard Lazant say "Skyler" or something similar.
"Captain, let me check your straps. We're about to land," said Lucian.
Lazant seemed to shake his head as he replied gruffly, "Major Lucian, I'm in at least a mild state of shock. I'm pretty badly burned, my sight's out of commission, and what remained of my hair is probably gone, but I CAN still hear." He reached to check the straps, but as Lucian started to turn away, Lazant continued, "But Major, if you can check my straps...my hands...." he said, holding up the burned members.
"Glad to help, Captain," replied Lucian, making sure Lazant was secure. Seating himself a few microns later, Lucian was securing his own straps when Lazant called, "Major Lucian...ahem...thanks for helping me."

Lieutenant Wraith held the computer core tightly, knowing that without the information a lot of people had died in vain. He was grateful that Major Lucian had started watching over Captain Lazant. Lazant was quite a piece of work! He had obviously been upset with Skyler the entire mission, Wraith wondered if there would be repercussions. From what he had heard about Lazant he was the type to hold a grudge and also to take legal action. Wraith could see why Lazant had few friends, the entire mission he had referred to him and Ike collectively as "Lieutenant Wrike." Still, no one deserved the pain that Lazant was now suffering.
Checking his own restraints, Wraith shifted the precious cargo that he was carrying. He held it close to his stomach and bent over slightly, shielding it. If the landing was rough he would protect it, even at the cost of his own life.

Logan hit the switch to kick in the turbos as soon as they had cleared the Bay and Skyler had given the word. The unfamilar controls responded well to her touch.
"Shield status?" Skyler asked from behind her and Brik's positions.
A quick glance told Logan all she needed to know. "Functioning at 100% capacity. We'd be on top of another Raider before they even had a micron's warning. Not that we need to worry about it. There's nothing out here. Scanners are clear of enemy ships."
Logan whistled low. "But I am picking up the Fleet on the enhanced sensors. This felgercarb is powerful."
Knowing that it was too risky to attempt to send a signal to the Callisto even if the comm system was functioning properly, Logan concentrated on her controls, but found that the ship practically flew itself. She spared a glance to the rear of the compartment behind her and just beyond Skyler's position in the command chair.
Hush and Janey were sprawled on the floor of the compartment. Janey looked barely conscious and she saw under the dirt and grime that her ribs had been bound. Her eyes were closed as her head laid back against the wall of the ship. She looked to be in rough shape.
Hush was beside her, breathing heavily, his blaster laying on the floor beside him as if he didn't have the energy to holster it. Their eyes met for a micron and she smiled at him in reassurance. "We thought we'd lost you. You ok?"
He nodded and his eyes went to Janey briefly before returning to Logan's.
"And Janey? How bad is it?"
Logan didn't like the pale look on the girl's face, but she was a fighter to make it this far. Before Hush could answer, Logan said. "Don't worry. We'll be home soon. After surviving an explosion in the computer core of a Cylon Baseship, you'll be pretty popular in the O-Club. And Brik said he was buying the first round of drinks."
She turned back to her console, winking at Brik as she did so. She was nonchalant about it, but her stomach was in knots and she couldn't understand why Skyler hadn't yelled at her to keep her heartbeat down to a dull roar before the Cylon's heard it and came after them.
Hush was alive.
But for the micron, she had to get a grip on herself and steer this barge back home. The Callisto was getting closer on the sensors, even though it wasn't within visual range yet.
And there was still the matter of getting as far from that Baseship as possible before that charge Skyler set blew. If they weren't clear of its range, all of it would be for nothing. Logan had no intention of being caught up in the shockwave of debris from that behemoth, so she adjusted the speed of the Raider to push it just a little harder.

An announcement was made that the second dropship was making its final approach. Brie realized that she was holding her breath. She suddenly found herself in a situation that she had never expected in a million yahrens, she was waiting to see if one man that she cared about was alive while standing, waiting with another. In many ways Skyler was a non-issue, they could only be friends so they both needed to get on with their lives. She had consciously worked on it, making the date with Justin was a big step. And to be fair to Justin she had honest feelings for him. But waiting for the ship to land, waiting to find out if Skyler was injured or worse...unconsciously she held her breath again.

On the Callisto's bridge, Commander Sheba was getting near constant updates on the situation. She was very concerned about the report from the engineering team that the Cylons were restoring power on their ship at an accelerating pace. Time was running out. "We have to end this. Put me through to Commander Apollo," she commanded.
"Ah, Commander, we just received an incoming text transmission from him for you," came the reply.
Sheba took the message at once. She read, "Security probe monitoring Cylon Base Star was being withdrawn when it detected a single Raider launched from the bay used by our assault teams. A couple of centons later, it detected multiple double launches from the opposite bay--"
Great, thought Sheba, they have enough power to at least partially open their landing bay doors. They'll have pulsars any time now, too. She continued to read, "Launches exceeded approximately 30 when contact with probe was lost. Raiders appear on course for Callisto. Red Squadron being dispatched to assist you. Will contact momentarily. Apollo."

It was a little wobbly for a few moments, then there was a bump. Not bad, thought Lucian ask he unbuckled his seat harness. The drop ship was down, and unloading began at once, with the wounded and injured being taken off first. Lucian unstrapped and waited his turn....

Lt. Dolet nearly spit out a mouthful of Tauran Tofurkey (or what passed for it these sectons) as he heard the call for pilots. He hadn't been able to relax knowing that the Callisto's forces were spread pretty thin after the tangle with the baseship raiders, and then the boarding mission. There were pilots out on patrol, but now the call was out now for every last available pilot.
Dolet swallowed his grub and ran from the mess hall, a few other pilots that were there right on his heels. As he sped down the corridor, their group expanded by a dozen or so, all headed to the launch bay.
They were down the lift in microns, hitting the launch deck at a dead run and hopping into available vipers. Dolet adjusted his helmet as the canopy closed. The satisfying hum of turbo engines firing up greeted his ears as he hit the three buttons.
He waited for the word from core command, and then he was down the launch tube and into space. The vipers that launched with him assumed a smart, skillful formation as they sped off in the direction of the baseship.
"There's a lone raider" someone said over the com, picking up a blip on his screen.
"Testing the defenses maybe" someone else guessed.
Dolet looked at the raider for a split micron before taking his shot. Sparks flew off it's wing as one of his volley's glanced off. "I've got this one" he spoke into the com. "You guys keep going. Get those daggits before they can get close."
He veered off, focusing on the raider, trying to line it up....

Skyler shifted in his seat, the pain from the pulled muscle throbbing in his side, he reached over to apply pressure to ease the pain when he felt something wet. Not alot, but enough. He glanced at his hand and saw the pinkish red tint of blood. Taking a deep breath, then regreting it as the pain worsened.... shrapnel form that last blast had caught him. Frack, frack, frack.... well, he couldn't let the others know he was hurt, and as long as he didn't move to much, it should stay lodged in his side and help slow the bleeding. Logan turned and got his attention...
"Skyler, we have a Raider closing with us. They seem to be tracking us. I don't know how...." Brik cut her off...
"Frack, its right here." he was pulling the access panel off the side of the instrument cluster beside his station. "Those metal bastards have a tracking beacon on this crate. When you noticed that Raider following I did a emissions scan, and picked up a coded Cylon carrier wave" Brik pulled a few wires out, traced them back and snatched a greenish colored wire out of the panel, followed by a quick spark, adding a hint of electrical smoke to the air. Brik doubled check and the carrier wave was no longer transmitting.... "That got it Skyler."
"Logan, alter course 180* starboard. Take us away from the fleet, and lets see if that tin head will follow..."
"We might not need to sir, we have a Flight of Vipers approaching, fast. It looks like they are locked on that Raider behind us." Logan paused "sorry I didn't see it sooner, but I am still learning these systems. Looks like the Basestar has lauched about half a phalanx of Raiders. Must have been from thier Beta bay. Vipers from the Galactica are on an intercept course, and I am picking up more launched from the Callisto."
Hush spoke up "I thought you said that this thing had some kind of scanner damping field? That it wouldn't show up on our screens."
"It won't " Skyler answered "but that fancy electronic felgercarb doesn't stop them from seeing it with the naked eye. We can't risk using the Cylon communactions equipment... can we modify our portable units to reach one of those Vipers? "
