Everybody had to have a hobby. In that Artus was no different than any of the other warriors. And it just so happened that Artus' hobby was technology. How to build it, how to adapt it and how to make as much possible use of it. That's why he had gotten into trouble as a cadet when he had tried to rewire the Viper simulator, because it didn't function the way he wanted it too. That's also how he managed to keep the shuttle going after he escaped from that frozen excuse of a world together with Amy and Marcus. And that is also how he had found out about the therapy rooms.
During the training he underwent to get his flight status approved again, he had a lot of spare time on his hands. And in this time he had started reading old Core Central Records on just about anything he could lay his hands on. The complete technical manuals on Vipers and Shuttles. But he could quote them backwards by now. So he had also started on the technical manuals of the Callisto. That's where he had read about those therapy rooms.
He was very hesitant to go anywhere near them at first, seeing as they were located close to the Devil's Pit. That was the engineer's nickname for the part of the Callisto just under the fuel storage. If there was ever a fire or an accident, it was about the most dangerous place on the Callisto you could be.
But when he had just been getting back on track, flight status approved, Brie had to drop that bombshell on him that Amy was awake and wanting to talk to him. He simply hadn't known what to do. And like father, like son, Artus had sought refuge in drinking.
