After finishing my meal, I realised it was time to start heading in the direction of the bridge. I didn't rush, just took it nice and easy. By the time I got there I realised I was about twenty centons to early. I did what I always did when I was on the bridge, sit back and watch the bridge crew do their stuff. Hey these poor souls worked in here shift after shift with the same view all the time I don't know.
After watching for a few centons, I decided to wait outside so I could talk with Brie before the meeting. It was funny, I had never before so eagerly waited for someone to arrive which meant I was in love.

Although only a few microns had passed since she had left Skyler, Brie checked her chrono again. She was cutting it close, but if she didn't take too long she had time. With no one there to stop her Brie knocked on Lazant's door. "You have a centon for a visit from a friend?"
Lazant smiled and turned his head in her direction. He was still heavily bandaged, but he somehow looked better than when she had last seem him. His pain seemed to have subsided, and his demeanor had improved. "Come on in, Brie."
Brie entered the room and closed the door behind her. She then grabbed a chair and sat next to his bed. "You recognize my voice? I'm impressed."
"I did, but I would have known that it was you anyway," Lazant replied. "Very few people would admit that they're my friend."
"Well I am," Brie said. "But I can only stay a centon, I have a meeting with the Commander. How are you feeling?"
"Better," Lazant informed her. "Don't get me wrong, it still hurts like Hades, but the prognosis is good. They think my eyesight will return, although with the scarring I may not like what I see. But the doctors say that even the scars can be minimized. I've also worked with Lieutenant Haidee, from your squadron. She has really helped a lot."
"That's good to know," Brie answered, not really sure of what to say. She hated this type of situation. "Hey, I hear congratulations are in order, Major."
Lazant grinned. "It's about fracking time."
Brie returned the smile, even though Lazant couldn't see it. "Just don't get too comfortable. I still have seniority over you."
"But," Lazant continued, letting out a small laugh, "as long as you're a squadron leader you're stuck at major, Major."
"Who says I'm staying a squadron leader? Bridge officers sometimes get higher pay and the promotions..."
"Yeah, like that will ever happen." Lazant grew serious. "Listen, Brie, I want you to know that it's not coming from me."
Brie was puzzled. "What?"
"This investigation. They think that I don't know about it but one of the things about losing my sight...my hearing has improved like you wouldn't believe. I have nothing to do but just sit here and people don't always realize how loudly they're talking...I've picked up bits and pieces of what's going on. I know that Flynt is here from the Galactica and they're investigating the baseship mission. I've heard Skyler's name mentioned several times, especially in reference to my current situation. Frack, Brie, Skyler did make mistakes and he treated me like absolute felgercarb, but I no longer think that he was trying to kill me." He paused. "You have enough faith in Skyler to make him your SIC and that's enough for me to know that it was an accident. So whatever is going on, it's not from me."
"I didn't think that it was," Brie replied truthfully. "You're a decent person, Lazant, and I wish that you'd show more people that side of you. Sorry, but I need to go. Is there anything that I can do for you?"
"Yes," Lazant replied without hesitation, "come see me again. I'm really getting bored!"
"I will, I promise." Brie headed towards the door.
"Brie?" Lazant called. She stopped. "You sound different. Like you're happier than you've been in yahrens. Am I right?"
"Yeah," Brie told him. "Things just seem to be working out for a change. Listen, my friend, I'll see you later."
She left and glanced at her chrono again. She still had a few centons. She walked fast, nervous about the meeting with the Commander but excited at the same time. Somehow telling Sheba would make her new relationship feel even more real. As Brie approached the bridge she smiled when she saw that JustinB was waiting outside.

"Ahh, I think they have done a systems check on my viper. If this one is mine". Persephone pointed to the sleek bird nearest her, not really sure if it was indeed the one she would be flying.
"I saw a few techs working on this one when I arrived about 15 centons ago, but I'd be happy going over the checklist with you Logan. This is my first viper check, so your guidance is more valuable than I can say, seeing that I'm still very green and all ", she ended with a smile at her wingman.
She glanced over at Mitch, he looked rather engrossed in his work.
Logan seemed just as she imagined she would be. Assertive, yet quite approachable. Persephone felt comfortable with her as her wingman.
But she wanted to make a good first impression on Logan as well. Let her wingman know she could depend on her to do her very best, in any situation.

I had been waiting a few centons when Brie finally came into sight. My initial urge was to place my arms around her and squeeze her tight. As I said, they were my initial reactions. Common sense stepped in and kept me from doing so. To keep up the pretence I had to make everyone believe we were rival squadron leaders.
"Glad you could make it on time Major," I said with an obvious wink.
"Well, I am on time with a few centons to spare." she replied.
I moved in close to her and whispered in her ear, "Brie, hows about I come over for lets say an informal meeting in your quarters. We could say to any observer it is in regards to the Borreck Cluster. If the meeting should coincide with dinner I could say I have to go and maybe I might be lucky and you might offer to have me stay a little while longer. What do you think? I mean, it could be a chance to get to know Amy a little better as well as her beautiful mother."

Brie moved back a little, if she stayed that close to JustinB she'd probably start blushing. "You're right, Major, that is something that you and I need to discuss further. Why don't you stop by my office later? I have a brief meeting scheduled for 17:00 but any time after that should be fine."
"How about 18:00?" JustinB asked.
Brie nodded. "That would work." She took a step forward. "I guess we should see if the Commander is ready to see us." She felt her stomach flip. She had been more nervous since agreeing to the date than she had ever been in her entire life. For some reason telling Commander Sheba about their newfound feelings made her the most nervous of all.
Together they walked into the bridge area of the most powerful ship in the fleet. "Brie," Major Joey said almost immediately, "what are you doing in this part of the woods? You usually avoid the bridge at all costs."
"We have a couple of things that we need to discuss with the Commander," Brie replied. "She should be expecting us."
"War Room One," Joey replied. Brie's friend and former roommate looked thoughtful for a micron. "Hey, you and I haven't done anything together for a long time. You want to have dinner tonight? I can get my husband to watch the kids."
"Sorry," Brie said, "but I have an important dinner meeting. You know how jumps are."
Joey sighed. "Yeah, I remember." She turned her attention towards JustinB. "I really don't miss running Black Squadron. The paperwork, the life and death decisions, the paperwork, the new recruits that think they know more than we do, the paperwork, trying to find time to spend with my husband...I guess it's a good thing that neither of you are sealed. Running a squadron and a family was darn near impossible at times."
"War Room One?" Brie asked, purposely changing the subject. Joey nodded. "Don't want to keep the Commander waiting." Embarrassed although she wasn't sure why, Brie walked towards the War Room, JustinB by her side. She knocked on the door.
"Come in," Sheba replied from the other side.
Brie smiled at JustinB before opening the door. "Here we go," she said.

JustinB and Brie entered the War Room. Commander Sheba motioned for them to both sit down, which they did. "I didn't realize that you would be coming too, Major," she said to JustinB. "I thought it was just Brie."
"Two of the things that I need to discuss with you don't concern Major JustinB, Ma'am," Brie started. "But the third one does."
"Three things," Sheba said with a smile. "I think I know what the first one is but go ahead and ask it anyway."
Brie cleared her throat. "Why is the mission team from Gold Squadron under investigation? Especially Captain Skyler?"
"The group from the Galactica is here to find out all they can about the Purple Cylons," the commander explained. "Plus anything other information that might be pertinent." She stared at Brie for a micron before continuing. "Sometimes it's better to clear all suspicion ahead of time, get rid of all doubts before they get out of hand. If there is anything serious going on, or if it even looks like anyone is going to formally accuse Captain Skyler of anything, I promise that I'll let you know immediately. But I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Lt. Colonel Flynt is a very intimidating man, but in the end he's always fair. Next subject."

I felt nervous as we walked into the War Room. Commander Sheba was very surprised to see me there.
I didn't realize that you would be coming too, Major, I thought it was just Brie." she asked me. Before I could answer Brie spoke up
"Two of the things that I need to discuss with you don't concern Major JustinB, Ma'am," Brie started. "But the third one does."
Knowing it would be a bit before Brie got to the subject about us, so I sat upright to here what would be said.

"Next subject," Brie repeated. She took a deep breath and slowly let it out. "Am I correct in assuming that Commander Apollo filled you in on the truth about Captain Amy's parentage?" Commander Sheba nodded. "Amy knows the whole story, after her father's death her mother didn't see a reason to keep it from her anymore. So, um, we've decided that we'd like to make it official. Change my file so that I'm listed as her birth mother, and change Amy's so it states that she's adopted. And then announce it to the squadron. We still need to talk to Abby before we do this, but I wanted to let you know of our intentions as soon as possible."
"I can't say that I'm surprised," the Callisto's Commander replied honestly. "Especially after I heard that Amy is staying with you while her quarters are being refurbished. But honestly, Brie, do you think this is a good idea? Amy has always been under a lot of pressure because of her relationship with Charybdis this will probably make it worse."
"Amy has never received any special treatment because of Charybdis or because she's my daughter," Brie said automatically. "Every promotion and every assignment that she's ever been given have been because she's extremely capable."
"I don't doubt that," Sheba told her. "But others will."
Brie shook her head. "It's a truth that should have come out a long time ago, Ma'am. I never should have agreed to keep it secret. Other people can think what they want, but I know Gold Squadron. They know that Amy is a fine warrior. And outside of Gold Squadron, I don't really care what anyone thinks, with a few exceptions. As I said, we still need to talk to Abby. She was called back to the Agro Ship before the jump, so it might be a while."
"As long as you and Amy have both thought it through, and Abby agrees, then I'll personally make sure that the files are changed," Sheba said at last. "But I want you and Amy to both spend this time that you're waiting thinking about the potential consequences. Do we have a deal?"
"Yes, Ma'am," Brie agree.
"Good. So, what's the third thing that you needed to talk to me about? The one that concerns you both?"
Brie looked at JustinB. "Do you want to tell her or should I?"

"Well, you could if you wanted, but since I am here I will do the honours," I said. Commander Sheba didn't quite quite know what was about to hit her.
"Commander, it is quite simple. Brie and I have started dating each other. We have discovered that we have a lot in common. Over the past sectars, situations have had the two of us ending up with the pair of us together. In that time we have grown on each other and as of few cycles ago we are now a couple. No one knows this of course as we believe with everything going on at the moment, we want to keep this quiet. We have discussed the ramifications of us dating and we believe we can keep our personal feelings just that while we are on duty. We plan to be warriors first and lovers for better a use of a term second. We believed you had the right to know first. As Squadron Leaders, we believe can still work together professionally. We just thought you should know, cause Roxzanna-Rizou followed us from the Starliner Alpha in hopes of a story, but we have been discreet enough that she has no story. She did however mention coming to you and asking permission to interview me about the time I was missing.' I didn't know what else to say, so I looked over at Brie and gave her the 'you can jump in at anytime' look.

As Logan and Persephone finished the Viper check on the Ensign's ship, the Lt. stepped back and nodded to herself. She's into the details. Good. Taking nothing for granted.
Logan looked around the Bay and thought she saw Brik enter on the far side, but the techs and equipment made it impossible to be sure. Not that he could be mistaken for anyone else. He was taller and wider than just about any member of the crew on duty at the micron.
If it was him, he'd be making his way to his Viper, just on the other side of Logan's. She ran her hands on the legs of her pants and squatted down to look at the underbelly of her own ship at a distance. No visible scorching. Mitch had done a superior job as usual.
Persephone was climbing down from the cockpit as Logan stood back up. "I think that about does it," the girl said.
"Until we're out the jump, we don't have to worry about the ships. And I expect there will be a briefing once we get close to the end of it. I have no idea what we'll be getting oursleves into after that, but we'll be ready for it." Logan spoke with a certainty that invited no argument. Some thought her to be arrogant, but her confidence in her and her teammates abilities was the the reason they had made it out of so many dangerous missions. Especially the last one.
Logan's mind drifted for a micron to Skyler and the questions that Flynt had asked. She didn't want to think anything would come of it, but she had been a Warrior long enough to know that sometimes politics and ambition could cause trouble where there was none previously.
She really just wanted to talk to Skyler and see how he was doing. She also couldn't help but wonder where Hush was now and if he still resented her and the rest of Gold as he had seemed to in the Med Lab.
She shook it off as she realized she had been seriously considering going to Bronze barracks and seeking him out....for what? To explain. To tell him it wasn't her fault that so many of his friends had been wounded and killed. She knew that would sound hollow coming from her now.
She turned her attention back to Persephone in an effort to get her mind on something else. "So, have you met many other Gold Squadron Warriors yet?"
