Brie could tell that JustinB wanted her to take over, but she wasn't really sure if there was anything that she needed to add. "I think that JustinB has said it all," she started. "We've talked quite a bit about this. We both know our place, and duty will always comes first. We've been working together for a while now, denying feelings that we both knew were there. A personal relationship won't change how either of us work, and we've seen by example that it can be done."
Commander Sheba smiled at the reference. "It can, but it's not easy. I do have a question for you, Brie. When your husband died, you didn't handle it all that well. You both have a dangerous job. I pray to the Lords that it will never happen, but are you prepared for the possibility of losing JustinB in battle?"
"Permission to speak freely, Ma'am?" Brie asked. Sheba nodded. "That was a totally different circumstance. If Turner had died in battle I would have handled everything differently. But he was murdered. I knew that something was amiss, but no one believed me, and it took Pierce's confession to set Turner's file right. I can't say how I would handle things if something were to happen to JustinB, but I'm older and stronger than I was back then. I've watched friends and squadron members die one by one, sometimes because of assignments that I've made. And I think I proved myself when Amy was thought dead. No one at that time knew she was my biological daughter, and I was being blamed for causing her death. If I ever I was going to crack it would have been then, especially since I didn't know that the whole thing was a setup. But I was professional throughout, even after I was convicted."
"That you were," Sheba replied. "I want to thank you both for letting me know. I realize that this has probably been difficult, but you're filling me in assures me that you both understand what you're up against. It will be very hard at times, but also very rewarding. I'm happy for you, and wish you both the best. Is there anything else?"
"No, Ma'am," Brie replied.
"Okay, "Sheba said, standing up. "I'm going to be calling a meeting very soon to discuss the next system."
As they left Brie let out a sigh of relief. "That wasn't so bad," she said to JustinB. She smiled at him. In her mind, that made them official.

(Continued from "CH 37 F – Journal of a Jump « Reply #15")She turned her attention back to Persephone in an effort to get her mind on something else. "So, have you met many other Gold Squadron Warriors yet?" Coming around the far side of Logan's ship, Brik walked forward just as his friend's question left her lips. "ATTEN-HUT!" barked Lieutenant Brik of Gold Squadron, laughing to himself (giving away only a slight gleam in his eye, a gleam that Logan knew very well) as the new Ensign snapped to. Brik thought Very sharp, seems to pay attention and responded correctly without thinking...so far so good, this one's not stupid, it seems..."She has now, old friend!" Brik said with almost a growl and a scowl that would force paint from a surface out of simple fear. He placed his good arm behind his back and circled the new warrior in the appraising manner of drill instructors since the dawn of time. Doesn't act afraid, keeps her calm. Good."At ease, Ensign!" he barked (again). She did so, coming to the proper military rest posture. He eased his large hand toward Persephone in the manner of the traditional hand-shake offer, to her bewilderment. "Put it there, Ensign. You've done yourself proud in dealing with my standard "welcome test", so...welcome to Gold Squadron!" Logan looked up and smiled...partially because it was good to see her squadmate up and about (and not in trouble) and partially because of the unmistakable yet inoffensive look of amazement on Persephone's face as she mentally compared her own size to that of the man called BRIK.

"Yeah, I'm just glad the Commander didn't hit the roof. Look Brie, there is something I need to say to you. Turner, I know he was a big part of your life. I want you to know that I know, he will always have a place in your heart. I am fine with that. I won't ever be jealous should you ever talk about him. I just hope that I can make you as happy as he did if not better. If he is watching over us, I hope he is happy for you."
A tear formed in her right eye.
"Brie, I Love You," I said with a smile. "So are we on for that off-duty briefing in your quarters?"

"Wait, there's something I want to say," Brie started. "What you just said...it means a lot to me. Turner is watching over me, I don't doubt that for a micron, and I know he's happy for me. For us. I won't ever compare the two of you. Turner is my past, but you're my present...and my future. You make me incredibly happy. I never thought that I would fall in love again, but I'm so glad that I have." She smiled. "And we're still on for later. Right now I need to go look for Lieutenant Logan. They've started the Warrior of the Sectar program up again, and she's the first one picked. Plus I have some other things I need to discuss with her. How about you, where are you headed?"

Logan smiled and shook her head at her friend. "Don't let him fool you, Persephone. He's just a big ol' lovable daggit, for all his gruff demeanor."
Persephone looked up at the intimidating Warrior that was Brik and smiled as she returned his handshake. "Thank you for the welcome, Lt. Brik."
Logan noted that Brik seemed to be much healed since the last time she had seen him. "Did you give Holodoc a chance to poke and prod you to her satisfaction?"
Brik rolled his eyes and looked towards the ceiling. "To hers, not mine. Sometimes I think she tries to inflict more damage."
Logan snorted when she laughed. Persephone watched them closely, getting a feel for their friendship and how comfortable they were with each other. That was important in a squadron.
"Did you get my comm message?" Logan turned serious again.
"Yes." Brik's face clouded as he spoke. "And I haven't been to see the Galactica Inquisitor yet."
Logan opened her mouth, then closed it. She didn't want to give the appearance of coaching him in any way. They could get in serious trouble if anyone thought they had planned out what they were going to say. It would give the appearance that they had something to hide, which they didn't. "You'll do fine. Just promise me something."
"What is it?" Brik looked concerned.
"Keep your cool." Coming from Logan, that was all the warning he needed.

Just as Logan's question left her lips , "So, have you met many other Gold Squadron Warriors yet?"
Lieutenant Brik came around Logan's ship, almost but not quite, scarring the felgercarb out of Persephone.
"ATTEN-HUT!" barked the Lieutenant.
She immediately stood to attention. Brik was larger than any other officer she had met on the Callisto. But she was so accustomed to meeting all kinds of people from all walks of life, from her former designation and social life. Though she knew this was a very different environment. She learned long ago how to be confident in herself, and could talk to anyone.
Brik seemed only more bark than bite. Persephone composed herself professionally. Lieutenant Brik inspected her, then set her at ease, extending a customary handshake to the ensign, welcoming her to the Squadron. Persephone felt honored. But she also learned how not to give too much away, how she might have really felt in that moment. She breathed with a steady flow. She maintained a calm and confident face.
Looking straight at Brik, she responded, "Thank you for the welcome Lieutenant Brik".
She watched Logan and Brik as they conversed. Sizing up their relationship as warrior comrades.
She drifted to thoughts of her own when she was checking the interior of her viper.
After Persephone had spent several centons looking around her viper cockpit and the instruments to familiarize herself with her own starfighter, she took a deep breathe and pulled out the electronic key she had gazed at more than once today.
She opened the glove compartment, only a small spare space for anything personal, a pilot might want to keep there. She gently placed the key inside next to a small portable pilot's manual, she thought would be very indespensible!
At least I might know where to start looking, if my gyro-capacitor fracks itself, she mused to herself.
She ran her fingers over the key once more, as if touching the last touch of her lost fiancé's touch on the key itself, while thinking of Chiron's smile. Closing the glove compartment, she settled back into her seat feeling the comfort of the soft Piscean leather beneath her.
Nice to know that fine Piscean upholstery would be giving me a comfortable ride among the stars, Persephone further meditated with a subtle proud smile, and a far away look in her eyes. She wished she could remember more about her home colony and her family. She snapped out of it, getting up.
"I think that about does it," she said, as she climbed down from the cockpit.
Logan seemed pleased with her wingman's eye for detail during her first viper check, and Persephone felt good to mount that slightly daunting hurdle. Although she was yet to surmount much more than she may ever imagine.

"What am I up too, well I have some business with Fleet Security. Seems one of the mechanics decided drinking on duty was more important than us pilots."
"What do you mean by that." Brie asked.
"This particular mechanic was drinking on duty instead of fixing the vipers he was assigned to repair. Luckily, Zane the head crew chief caught him out. I had him taken to the brig, so know I have to do all the formalities." Brie was shocked. I squeezed her hand, "see you later sweetheart and congratulate Logan for me."

After Brie had left the bridge and JustinB her comm buzzed. She already had two message, neither marked urgent, but the latest one was. After reading it she took off at a run.

Before doing anything else Brie decided to read her non-urgent messages. There were now three of them. One was from Lieutenant Aegina, informing Brie of a meeting the next morning. Another was from the medlab, telling her yet again that Lieutenant Brik was on light duty and would return to normal duty after the jump. The third message was from Lieutenant Brik himself:
Major, I'd like to meet with you at your convenience, tomorrow will be fine.--Lt. Brik--
Brie had a feeling it had something to do with Skyler. She typed back a quick reply:
Lieutenant, tomorrow should be fine, but check to make sure I’m there before you show up.
Major Brie.
Taking a micron to remember where she had last sent Logan, Brie headed in the direction of the Alpha launch bay.

Feeling rather good about her very fist viper check, Persephone hummed the same favourite melody in her head as she headed back to her quarters. Stepping up on to the lift, she remembered it was almost nearing time to pick up Brie's laundry.
As she reached the Beta level, she got off and made her way up the corridor. Lieutenant Lysander passed by a doorway into the next corridor up ahead. Persephone just caught a glimpse of him.
Major Brie headed her way. Persephone straightened her shoulders up.
