Yes, the geek has a question about BSG....
In "Saga Of A Star World" when we see Serina giving her report on Caprica just before the attack, she says something to the effect "The reports of the armistice talks, taking place right now on the star Kobol, are not coming in as we hoped." And the next episode they discover Kobol and are shocked..
What's up with that? Was there a battlestar Kobol? (Which I think is more likely than a storyline loophole)

Good question. It's been suggested that it is either an additional battlestar or a ship (possibly Baltar's), on which the negotiations were taking place, called the Star Kobol. We never saw more than 5 battlestars on screen at one time, but we saw them from various angles. repcisg at Colonial Fleets and Cylon Alliance has analyzed this and shown that there could have been as many as 23 or 24 battlestars present the way it was shot, though that's not probable. However, it is possible that they intended for there to be more than the five shown at one time. In The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, there's even a reference to the Battlestar Columbia, which the Cylon said was destroyed at the peace conference. That gives argument to there being more than just five present, so a "Battlestar Kobol" is a possibility.

Wouldn't be much of a fleet with only 5 battlestars, would it?
The ones we know about are The Galactica, Pegasus,Rykon,Columbia and the Atlantia. Cain was (obviously) with the Pegasus, at the Battle Of Molakay. If I remember right the Pegasus was a member of the Fifth Fleet.

I have always taken this reference to the "Star Kobol" to mean some kind of diplomatic ship with all the niceties and amenities where the diplomats would meet to sign armistice treaties and such, but no one really knows!

And of course we all know that the Battlestars Triton, Pacifica and Acropolis were talked about in the background during the battle at Cimtar. As well as Columbia mentioned later in the series as being destroyed at Cimtar durring the battle. Watch "Gun on Ice Planet Zero"

In "Saga of a Star World" when the fleet is being attacked and they cut to the Galactica's bridge in the background dialogue...there is communication between the Galactica crew and the crew of the Battlestar Atlantia and Battlestar Acropolis.... the Galactica crew says "Battlestars Atlantia and Acropolis losing speed" Then in the background you hear "this is the Acropolis..we are on fire...abandon ship...request shuttles to....." and then it goes silent
then after that the Galactica crew states "request damage reports from Battlestars Triton and Pacifica" another Galactica crew member states" No response from Triton and Pacifica"
This keeps in line with the theory that there were only 5 battlestars at Cimtar.. The Galactica, Atlantia, Triton, Pacifica and Acropolis.... That would also mean that according to the dialogue throughout the series that the entire fleet of battlestars was destroyed at Cimtar. How could there only be 5 remaining battlestars and the colonies able to keep the Cylons from destroying them at anytime... I think that we have to just go with the flow and realize they could only show so many because of production costs and I imagine in my little world there were probably 12 or 13. That makes more sense and as long as we include the 5 named battlestars it keeps in precise harmony with the series. Of course the series later states that the Battlestar Columbia was destroyed at Cimtar, this would also go with the theory that there were more than 5 battlestars at Cimtar. So there are actually 6 named and that leaves us 6 or 7 to name. And of course the Pegasus and Rycon had been thought previously destroyed and previously destroyed before Cimtar... in respective order... I hope this makes sense...

Y'a'll do know there where 12 Battlestars total right?....Although the names of all 12 were never revealed in the orifginal book or TV show.
I thought everyone who was a die-hard fan knew that. Time for you guys to break out the original novel and pull out the DVD...and do try to pay attention this time around.....

Ok, so let me get this right..... The battlestars we know of are: Galactica,Pegasus,Rykon,Triton,Columbia,Atlantia,Pacifica, and the Acropolis.. That's 8... And POSSIBLY the battlestar Kobol...
And Killjoy, not everyone has the DVDs... Too expensive... *sigh* 85$ is nothing to sneeze at. Those of us that don't have them have to rely on the Sci-Fi Channel cut up episodes..

Hawke, I'm sorry I didn't think about including this in my earlier response. Hopefully, the link below will help. The "twelve battlestars" theory has been around since the beginning, but it was introduced by fans, not by canon. John Larocque has provided the best discussion I've seen regarding the battlestar names. It's available at www.kobol.com/archives/batlstar.htmlGlen Larson's responses to the question, as quoted in this article, show that he really didn't know the answer, either due to the way he often "made it up as he went along" or possibly due to the fact that it was more than 15 years later when he was trying to remember. Reading John's article, you'll get a pretty good idea of how the 12 battlestars theory made it into print and into the minds of many fans. L
