Hi there everybody.
First of al, I would like to apologise for being AWOL for such a long time. My life has been pretty much turned upside down and inside out lately.
It all started a while back, when a good friend of mine told me her mother had suddenly died. I had always gotten on with her mother very well, allthough this time it had been almost a year sdince I last talked to her. You know how things can get. I was always thinking, I should give her a call, but never got around to it. You know.’
And now she had been diagnosed with lungcancer, taken into hospital, and died. All within one week.
And barely a week later, my father-in-law, who I am also very close with, had to go to hospital for a checkup. He was diagnosed with intestinal cancer.
Instead of being able to go back home, they kept him in hospital immediately, because they wanted him to have immediate surgery. This was also a cause of great distress to my father-in-law, as his father had died very suddenly of intestine cancer as well. That was naturally quite a while ago, and medicine has progressed since then. But still, you can see where he would be nervous.
They operated on my father-in-law the next day, as he had to have eaten nothing for 24 hours to prevent infections. During the operation he started bleeding heavily so they were forced to abort the surgery. He was brought back to the ward, and told that they would wait for the bleeding to cease, after wich they would continue the operation.
He was kept in the hospital for two more days, all the while not being allowed to eat so they could operate when they had the chance. Then a doctor came to his bed and told him that he could go home. They had decided they would give the wound more time to heal, so he should go home and to return in six weeks, when they would continue the operation.
We collected him from the hospital and brought him hone, where the first thing he did was get a sandwich. After all he hadn’t eaten for days.
Then the phone rang. It was the hospital. My father-in-law was supposed to have surgery right now, but they couldn’t find him. We told them he had been sent home, after wich there was a long pause on the line. When the voice came back, it said that there had obviously been some kind of mistake and could they speak to him.
The phone was handed to my father-in-law and they asked him if he could cone back to the hospital so they could continue the surgery. He replied that he would be happy to come back, but that he did just have a sandwich. In that case, they said, they couldn’t operate and he would have to wait six weeks.
My father-in-law is currently in very much pain and discomfort, waiting for when he can get back into hospital.
While all this was going on my wife and I had decided a while back to start redecorating the house. Change most of our furniture, completely transform our bedroom, the works, so our house is in complete disarray. As some of you know I am currently out of a job, so I might as well put the free time I had on my hands to some use. Or so we thought.
But then I started developing red spots all over my body, that turned into small lumps and blisters. Then they broke open and started bleeding. They also itch like you would not believe.
It started on my hips and my waist. Unaware of what it might be, I scratched. That’s basically what you do when you have an itch. What I did however not know was that by scratching, I was transferring it on my hands.
As it is only natural for people to have to go to the toilet every once in a while, you can guess where it went to next...
Having a history of allergies, my first thoughts ran to that. I have had skin problems due to my allergies before. What you usually do is take anti-histamine tablets, get rid of anything that may have caused it, and after a while it goes away.
This didn’t go away. And the scary thing was that the lumps and blisters started appearing on my wife’s body and also on the body of our six year old niece. His caused me to go to the doctor, who took one look at my stomach and decided to send me to a dermatologist (that’s skin doctor in normal English). I have an appointment tomorrow and hopefully we’ll know more then.
In the meantime I continually itch so badly that I can’t even sleep. Haven’t slept for nearly two weeks now. Everything hurst because my skin has burst open, and I can tell you typing is far from a joy. And the flat is still a giant, dusty mess with no poper place to sit or sleep.
Still, I wanted to let you guys know what had been going on. So please try not to kill Artus just yet....
Kind regards,
Eef
