I had to admit, she had me. Draped over the barrel. So much had happened, that even I didnt' know where I stood anymore.
"Amy...oh Amy. I..." I didn't know what to say.
"I guess that's your answer," she said.
"Amy, I have given you several yahrens of time. I think now it's your turn to give me some time to sort all of this out. But as I said before, I'm here for you and the baby."
Amy looked down. "But I don't know how much of you will be here, will I?" she asked.
"Amy, this is why I said not to talk about this right now. You don't need to be upset about this right now. First of all, you have to regain your strength and then we'll deal with the baby as we find out more, OK?"
"I understand," she replied...

"I understand," Amy replied, "that I wouldn't need to be upset if you weren't withdrawing your proposal." She pulled away from him and folded her arms in front of her.
"I turned you down the first time, and as far as I know that was the end of it. You didn't give me two yarhens to think about it. I said no and that was it. I was too young, too immature. And we barely saw each other since then, and mostly just to fight. You didn't propose again until just before I left. To you that might be a long time ago, but to me it was just yesterday. I'm sorry, Charybdis, but it hurts."
"And what you are telling me now is you'll propose again if you are obligated to cause of the baby, right? If that's how it is, I guess I missed my chance with you cause I can't have it like that, knowing that you are with me only cause you have to."
She lowered her head, ran a hand over her stomach. "I can make it on my own, thank you anyway." She looked up at him. "It was nice to see you though..."

"That's not what I meant. About the baby and me only taking the seal with you if it's mine. Come on, Amy, you know me better than that." I stood up and walked over to the wall.
"I thought you were dead. You were gone and i was never going to see you again. I had to try and move on or at least accept what had happened. But then you came back and then there was Astraea..." I stopped. It was all so crazy!
My comm buzzed. "Colonel Charybdis, report to the bridge."
"Frack. I have to get back to duty. Try and get some rest, OK?"

"Oh no you don't" Amy said, her voice taking on a hard tone. "Don't walk out on me in the middle of this!" She got to her feet unsteadily, found her balance, and walked over to the wall where Charybdis was standing. By the time she reached him her strength was already beginning to fade. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her weight pushing them both up against the wall.
Her mouth was on his, kissing him deeply as she leaned in on him. She stopped only for breath. "Charybdis" she whispered. "Remember our last night together. I thought we'd really turned the corner. And I would have answered you then if it wasn't for the mission. Tell me it wasn't just because of the mission that you asked me. Tell me we did all we did because of love and not cause we thought we'd never see each other again. Ask me again, right now, before we find out about the baby?"

I stared deeply into her eyes. She was really looking into me, the very heart of me. My very soul. I had not really seen her like this before, with the exception of one time...the time she was referring to right before she left for the mission. She did not have to speak at that time, her eyes (and her body) said everything she needed to say.
I clutched her harder and drew her to me. I kissed her passionately. For a micron I had forgotten how Amy excited me, how she made me feel alive! I pulled away from her and looked her right in the eyes.
"Amy, I do love you, more than anything. And nothing that has happened was because of the missions or anything else other than my love for you. You know, I think I just wanted to see how you felt about this whole thing. And I can see how you feel."
Amy didn't say anything. She had asked a question and now she was going to get her answer.
"Amy, will you take the seal with me?"

Amy burst into tears, a huge radiant smile spreading across her face at the same time.
"Yes" she whispered, then in a louder voice. "I will! I will!"

We hugged each other again. We were all smiles. I seemed to recall going through these exact motions with Amy several yahrens ago when she had said yes to my proposal except that time we rolled around on the floor. Her physical condition denied us that scenario once again...

Amy let out a laugh and squeezed Charybdis with all her might. Then her surge of energy left her almost at once. "Oh" she said. "I have to sit." Charybdis helped her to the chair.
"Whew" she huffed, sitting heavily. "Guess there's no rolling around on the floor this time, huh?"
"Plenty of time for that later" Charybdis replied.
Amy laughed again, smiling brightly. "You know, I can't believe you couldn't tell how I felt about us. Though I guess I have been guilty of throwing out mixed vibes now and then. Do you still have the necklace, or did you flush it out the nearest airlock after last time?"

"The necklace?" I asked. "Oh, well, if I knew that this would have happened I would have pulled it out by now, but...yes, I do have it. And I have been dreaming for the day when you would wear it again." It was the necklace I had given to her a long time ago that had some sort of internal energy which made it shine by itself. Although the radiance was nothing compared to Amy's smile.
"Col. Charybdis, the Commander requests your presence on the bridge," my comm unit buzzed again.
"Amy, I"m so sorry. I have to go. But darling, remember, I'm here for you. I'll check in as soon as I can, OK?"

Amy reached out and took his hand, holding it tightly in hers. Tears once again welled in her eyes.
"We're going to make up for lost time" she said. "I was so wrong to let so much of it slip away. But we'll make up for it." She let his hand go. "Go on now, Colonel. And the Callisto better be on fire and ready to blow up, or I'll go up there and kick Sheba's a$$!"
