"I love you," Brie whispered as she opened the shuttle door.
"You just take care out there ok. May The Lords Of Kobol protect you sweetheart." I said as I gave her a quick hug. As I walked out of the shuttle I turned around and gave her a wink. Facing forward again I spotted someone who I needed to see. Her back was to me so it was easy to surprise her.
As I walked towards her I could see some of the launch crew watching me and a few were even giggling.
"Hello there sweetheart," I whispered into Logan's ear, "I have missed you so much."
Logan turned around and didn't know what to say, but seeing her cheeks turn red to match her hair I knew she was embarrassed.
"JustinB, I mean Major I err uhm."
It's alright Lieutenant, Major Brie has just informed me about why the rumour that is circulating around the Callisto is doing so. Thanks for your thought about my private life. I find it quite funny in a way."

Leaving the Gold Squadron briefing room , Brik walked to his billet with heavy thoughts roaming the corridors of his brain.
Sheesh. Transporting a bunch of murderous, skullduggerous traitors...and he still had no idea where Ally was or what her condition was. By Kobol, he would find her after this mission if it was the last thing he did! It had been too long since he'd found anyone special and he'd be damned if he'd let this one go so easily. And he was certain that the going had been rough for her as well and they both deserved better.
Not knowing where she was was worse, at this point, than the criminal transfer. Danger he faced everyday. Losing a new love was more rare and much more costly.
Ah, the mission. No blasters.
Walking to his locker he unbuckled and placed into it his old but still very trustworthy sidearm. His weapon (and his beloved Viper) were both "she" and both had names. His blaster was "Andrea" (Annie for short) and his viper was... Was ALLY. FRACK. He had no idea when, or if, he might see either Ally ever again. Sighing softly, he placed the rest of his small personal arsenal in his locker as well, thinking humorously that this process might take Logan and Skyler MANY cycles.
But his name was BRIK after all. So he felt no guilt at all in putting on his old gloves with no fingertips. They had micro-plate reinforced knuckles. He grinned ever so slightly and left for the bay to assist the Major with the pre-flight and for last-minute coordination (if any, this mission was FAR from "routine" and getting further away by the centon).
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Having left his quarters, Brik came around a corner to find himself several paces behind Major JustinB of Black Squadron. He thought about speaking (just out of courtesy, he was actually in no mood for niceties with strangers) but changed his mind, he had never actually met the man.
As he walked he noticed the Major coming up to a couple of blackshirts, he assumed the ones assigned for the mission but he wasn't sure. As he realized that JustinB was going to address the two, he held back because he would have to walk right through the three of them to get to the bay. This happened to place him close enough to hear what was said.
"Can you believe what she's asking us to do. Transferring those bilge rats with no lasers and no protection."
"I don't know about you, But I'm going to get an ankle pistol."
"I wouldn't do that if I was you." Major JustinB said, stepping in front of the Blackshirts. " And to make sure you comply with Major Brie's orders you will be searched before entering the shuttle. Now do you understand what you have to do?"
"Yes Major." they replied.
"Well get to it, I expect you back in ten centons, now GO!" he ordered loudly. Everyone in the launch bay looked to his direction, even Major Brie. JustinB walked over to her at that point and they boarded the shuttle. After what he'd heard, Brik assumed that the two Majors would have plenty of "Major concerns" to discuss. He decided to wait for the internal preflight and began inspecting the externals of the shuttle as well as the surrounding bay. "Too Careful" did NOT exist on this mission.
* * * * * * * * *
Ah, the meeting is apparently over, there goes JustinB...towards Logan. THAT should be interesting!
He waited for the Major to speak to his old friend (he'd give some real cubits to know what he'd said, Logan was blushing) and caught his friend's eye long enough to give her a quick grin, wink and nod before he turned to join his own Major aboard the ill-fated shuttle 1.
"Ill-fated"...why did he think that just now? All he knew was that he'd be more careful and more observant than usual. And "usual" for Colonial Warriors was called "paranoid" by others. Lieutenant Brik of Gold Squadron stepped into Shuttle 1 and closed the hatch.

"It's alright Lieutenant, Major Brie has just informed me about why the rumour that is circulating around the Callisto is doing so. Thanks for your thought about my private life. I find it quite funny in a way."
Still very aware of the techs' eyes boring through her back as they turned down the IFB broadcast in hopes of catching what she and the Major were saying, coupled with the fact that she had just seen Brik give her a jaunty wink and nod with a smile plastered on his face as he headed toward the other shuttle, helped Logan overcome her embarrassment at JustinB's unexpected arrival. She wasn't accustomed to this kind of attention and she thought that maybe her desire to lead Rizzou to the wrong conclusion had been a mistake.
But it was too late to second-guess now. She admitted to herself that she hadn't thought this through as well as she should have. She had underestimated the reporter, thinking she wouldn't actually report anything until she had solid proof of a relationship.
Looking JustinB square in the eye, she lowered her voice, and said, "I hope you still feel that way when Rizzou is chasing you down for an interview while we're gone on this mission. She just announced "our" relationship on the IFB from Black Squadron's Briefing Room."
JustinB looked stunned. "What?!"
His voice carried a bit more than he intended and the techs, already completely locked on the two Warriors, whispered amongst themselves.
Logan took JustinB's arm and guided him to the other side of the shuttle, out of the techs' line of sight. "Look. I only let Rizzou believe that I was the one because she is infuriatingly smug and nosey. Personally, whoever you or anyone chooses to have a relationship with is none of my business or anyone else's. I'm glad you're not upset about it though. I wasn't trying to butt in or cause any trouble for you...or myself, for that matter."
Logan had realized suddenly that if this was going out on the IFB, everyone in the Fleet would take it as truth. Hush. "Frack. I may have messed this up before it even started."
"Pardon me?," Said JustinB, looking at Logan curiously.
"Nothing," she said. I'll just have to explain it to him when he gets here.
One of the techs, the youngest, Manny, walked uncertainly around the shuttle, taking small steps and glancing over his shoulder. He held a spanner in one hand and was looking everywhere but at the Warriors.
"Manny." Logan's voice was icy. The tech jumped about a foot into the air.
"I...I,er....the coupling on that brace...I'm not satisfied....the joints can't take that pressure..." His eyes wide, he tried not to look at Logan. She could see sweat trickling down his forehead.
Rolling her eyes, she walked over to him and didn't speak until he looked at her. "Manny. I know they sent you over, so I'm not mad at you, but could you please take them a message for me?" She knew that he was young, idealisitc and too new at his job to refuse the other techs. He was a capable tech and idolized the pilots he worked with, so she didn't want to be too hard on him.
"A-a-alright." He looked very nervous.
"Tell them that I said they should be more concerned about their duties than the latest gossip and if I need any witnesses to my love life, YOU will be the one I choose." She smiled at him and he turned scarlet.
He walked back to the techs, with hesitant steps, but she could see him grinning.
She turned back to JustinB to find him laughing and shaking his head.
"Major, please tell me she's worth all this."
JustinB nodded and in all seriousness said, "Oh, she is."

"Lieutenant," Brie said upon seeing Brik enter the shuttle, "I'll let the gloves slide, since technically they're not sidearms." She didn't need to look at his hands to know he was wearing them, or what they were capable of......she knew her squadron. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I don't know how much Logan has told you about what happened on the Agro Ship. Pierce had a blaster that had been specially modified to cause as much pain as possible. He shot me with it three times, and was then going to end it. I had never been so sure that I was about to die. I even mouthed to Logan to allow him to do it, at least it would have bought a few more centons for the next hostage." She took another deep breath. "That's the man that these people worship. Frack, I'm dreading this mission." Brie wasn't sure why she was telling this to Brik. Although he was a longtime member of Gold Squadron and close to Skyler, she didn't really know him all that well. "I'm glad we're going to have the chance to work together," she told him, seemingly out of the blue. "I usually tend to pair myself off with the newer recruits, but having someone at my side this time who is experienced and that I know I can trust is really important." She grinned slightly. "Especially since I'm probably going to have a nervous breakdown somewhere between here and the Prison Barge."
"That's not going to happen, Major," Brik told her.
"This trip has been a long time coming. Bringing to justice one of the people who murdered my husband..." Brie paused. "Commander Sheba thinks that it will bring me closure, but I'm not so sure." She glanced at her chrono. "I need you to do something for me. The two Blackshirts that have been assigned, well, they weren't too happy about leaving their weapons behind. Major JustinB overheard them talking about sneaking something on. I'm going to ask Logan to search Jorma, who will be on our shuttle, but I need you to search Duran. I figure that you're the two to do it, since you both know all the hiding places. The two of them should be back any micron. I'll be damned if there will be even the slightest chance that a member of this fracking group will ever hold a weapon to my head again."

"Wife? me? ", she raced through her thoughts, not sure what to feel about Triton's spoken out -loud thoughts. Her face was still set on stunned. Stepping off the lift on the launch bay, Persephone was met with an unexpected meeting with Lysander.
"Pers!" She looked up from her gaze down on the floor. "Oh, hey Lysan, nice to see you", she moved forward toward him.
"Are you on duty already?"
"Ahh, yea-ah, I have shuttle waiting for me to co-pilot today".
"You must be excited then?"
"Uh-huh, that too". She gave her best smile, then remembered the flowers.
"I got the flowers you sent me last night. Thank you so much, it was very sweet of you, Lysan".
"Oh hey..no worries, Pers. I just wanted to send a little cheer your way. " The sentry's eyes held an endearing openly quality about them.
"They're simply beautiful. I haven't seen pink lily of the valley in many yahrens. But you shouldn't have gone to all that trouble for me".
"It was no trouble at all, Pers, just thought you might like them, that's all".
Is he blushing? no..can't be...or is he? oh Frack...she thought.
Lysander stood with his hand on his holster, fiddling with it with his finger tips. "Ahh I met your friend Misy.. Mista.."
"Misty Star?"
"Yes that's it. She was real nice, offered to put the flowers in some water and place them in your quarters for me."
"Yeah, she's a good friend of mine."
"She said you were out for the evening, so I left them in her hands for you."
Persephone started to feel strangely awkward. Does my face look weird right now ? Don't look weird, Pers, relax your facial muscles, look normal, stop smiling like a freak!!
She is so gorgeous right now. What am I gonna say now to her..she must think I'm a idiot, just standing here looking like I just had my brain sucked out by a cylon Cortex Scan task team..wipe off your goofy smile Lysander!!
The two stood for what seemed like millicentons thinking nothing had been said for light yahrens, but in actual fact only a micron had passed.
"Well I have to report to the shuttle, Lysan. It was nice meeting up with you again. And once again thanks for the flowers. I left a note for Misty to change the water in the vase for me while I'm away. Sooo..."
"Sure thing Persephone! Well, You have a safe trip today. And when you get back, we've got to have that game of pyramid we talked about." He winked at her without thinking about it first.
Why did I wink just now?
Did he just wink at me? Persephone smiled, politely covering her thoughts.
"You're on Lysan!"
"Okay!".
They gave a chuckle and shook hands.
Persephone moved toward the shuttles, as the sentry stepped onto the lift with his face feeling like it was as red as a super red giant star. He touched his cheek, it was warm. Shaking his head in dismay at his own patheticness, he let out a deep sigh as the lift rode back up to beta deck.

Well, this should be a very interesting flight.
Brik knew by reputation that The Major rarely "pulled punches" or "served weak Ambrosia" but it was quite a different thing entirely to see that focus and resolve up close and personal. And he was impressed.
Pausing for only a moment or two, Brik replied to her unexpected candor.
"Major, I've come to realize that these SSS left-overs are much more dangerous than I'd ever suspected, and I already thought them fairly dangerous people...and...I didn't know about the connection with you until today."
He spoke as he turned back toward the hatch and reached for its release, "With that said, I'm going to get Logan and brief her on our search directive."
Just before stepping back through the now-open hatch he looked Brie in the eyes and said "Major, working with you will, I'm certain, be educational and QUITE a personal honor. Also, I'll do my best to maintain the trust you've placed in me. I'll be back as soon as we've searched both guards and prisoners."
He left to find Logan...

After Brik left Brie sat down in the pilot's seat. Although she hated IFB, she switched it on anyway. Roxzanna-Rizou's face filled the screen, the words Repeat of earlier broadcast scrolled across the bottom. "We've been out of the jump for less than a centar, what's so exciting that they're already repeating the story?" Brie asked out loud. She turned up the volume.
"But the most interesting news to come from my investigation, was discovering the secret identity of a heroes love interest. Before the jump I found out Major JustinB, Commanding Officer of Black Squadron was seen on the Starliner Alpha dining with a beautiful redhead. That redhead can now be revealed as Lieutenant Logan from Gold Squadron. I hope to interview Major JustinB about his career and his romance in the future. This is Roxzanna-Rizou reporting from the briefing room of Black Squadron aboard the Battlestar Callisto."
Brie didn't know who she felt more sorry for, Logan or JustinB. "Great," she said out loud. "Just fracking perfect." She grinned. "At least she said beautiful redhead."

JustinB had just left and Logan was pointedly ignoring the stares of the few techs who were still hanging around the vicinity of the shuttle. The majority of them, knowing of Logan's infamous temper, had make quick excuses for vacating the area after Manny had returned to them with her message. The young tech was still blushing fiercely, but Logan noticed a bit more confidence in the set of his shoulders as he worked on the undercarriage of a nearby Viper.
She was glad that JustinB had taken her meddling in his personal life so well. By leading Rizzou to believe she was the love interest, at least she had bought he and his lady some time. 'Well, maybe not JustinB, but his lady friend, at least,' Logan thought wryly. Unfortunately, she had the feeling that the reporter would hound JustinB until he finally granted her an interview. Logan shook her head. She didn't envy him that harrassment.
Someone clearing their throat behind her broke her from her reverie and she turned to see Brik strolling towards her. She narrowed her eyes at him as she took in his appearance, noting the gloves he had on his hands.
"You can stop looking. I'm not hiding anything," he said jovially, but she also saw his eyes scanning her uniform, from neck to boots. She crossed her arms and gave him a wicked grin. "If I didn't know you better, I'd think you were checking me out, Brik."
The big man laughed, throwing his head back and shaking it. Coming up short, he pulled a serious expression, a gleam of mischief in his eyes. "What if I was?"
She rolled her eyes and punched him in the arm. Laughing with her friend, she sighed, "I can't take any more attention, to tell you the truth. That IFB reporter just announced to the Fleet that I'm JustinB's girlfriend."
"What?" Brik shook his head again. "How do you get yourself in these messes?"
"I just don't know." She was thankful that Brik decided not to give her a hard time about it. Her intentions had been good and he knew that.
"Major Brie has a job for us," he said, lowering his voice. "The Black Shirts that are assigned as guards on the shuttles, Jorma and Duran, aren't too happy about not being able to carry weapons. When they get back in a few microns, we get to search them." Brik's eyes were serious, but he couldn't help but smile.
Logan nodded. "No problem. But, why us?"
"Well, the Major seems to believe that we will be the most thorough as we know all the hiding places."
Logan could understand that. It was an ongoing joke that Logan and Brik were known to 'overpack' for missions.
"Right," she said. Looking over Brik's shoulder, she saw the two Black Shirts in question heading back into the Bay and towards Major Brie's shuttle. She tapped Brik on the arm and nodded in their direction, "Well, we better get over there. this isn't going to be pretty."
She could only imagine the way this would ruffle the securitymens' feathers. It was no secret that there was a longstanding rivalry between many of the Black Shirts and the Colonial Warriors. Most of it stemmed from bad feelings on the Black Shirts' parts because they hadn't cut it in the Academy and had been forced to go into Security instead of becoming Warriors. Logan could understand how that must rankle their egos. And she was sure that being searched by Warriors would seem like the grandest of insults to them. But it couldn't be helped. The Major had given her orders and Logan knew that she and Brik would be most thorough in their search. All of their lives depended on it.

Checking the time on her chronometer, she sighed relieved, knowing she was still just a few centons early. But that was okay, as she needed to familiarize herself again with the shuttle's controls. No doubt Logan would want her to get to know the flight plan as well. As Persephone came closer to Shuttle two, she saw Logan and Brik in conversation. She overheard most of what they were saying, only because she was within earshot. But, why us?" "Well, the Major seems to believe that we will be the most thorough as we know all the hiding places." Walking around them, waiting for micron of pause in their conversation, she said, "Lieutenant Logan? Hope I'm not late" ? The two Lieutenants seemed pre-occupied with the two approaching sentries though. Persephone wondered what the black shirts were causing concern about. Lysander was nothing like most other arrogant Sentries. What a pity he wasn't assigned as guard to one of the shuttles. He would have been dependable and competant, without a doubt, she thought to herself. BLOOPER REELWalking around them, waiting for micron of pause in their conversation, Persephone not looking where she put her next step, as she is focused on Brik and Logan, gets her boot stuck in a coiled up cord from one of the mechanics work gear on the floor of the launch bay, suddenly realizes she's almost airborn and trips noisily, landing on the floor. Brik and Logan's serious moment is interrupted by Persephone's entrance, and smiles break out all over the set, with fits of giggles.
"I'm ohhhhhh-KAY!" says the small voice from Persephone in a muffled laugh. One of the flight crew members walks over laughing offering her a hand back up on her feet.
Cameras flash back to Logan and Brik still laughing and holding each other up.
The director says"CUT"! "Put that one on the take outs", he further adds, with chuckles still going on in t he background.....

"Right," she said. Looking over Brik's shoulder, she saw the two Black Shirts in question heading back into the Bay and towards Major Brie's shuttle. She tapped Brik on the arm and nodded in their direction, "Well, we better get over there. this isn't going to be pretty." The large Warrior crossed over to the Security Officers so as to intercept them. "One moment please, Officers." Brik said his words firmly but not rudely but there was still no mistake that he was not speaking in requests. Jorma and Duran looked at each other with a look that said "What the frack does he want?!?!?!" Neither of them happened to be foolish enough to actually say it out loud. They also noticed the look on Logan's face combined with the gloves on Brik's hands. It occurred to them that both Lieutenants were a bit legendary for various violence-related traits. They wisely decided to listen to what was going to be said. "I know that what we're about to say will come across as an insult. You need to ignore that." Duran looked at Jorma in mild confusion...Jorma looked at the two Lieutenants in the same way. Without an exchange of glances, Logan took up where Brik left off. "For the safety of everyone involved with this mission, you will be searched for hidden weapons by order of Major Brie, Mission Commander."
