Whom of you are thumbing your noses at the new series? And Why?
I really think you should give it a chance. Also Richard Hatch guest stars in the 3rd episode and may become a recurring cast member.

Hey Raycer,
Well, I guess I'm one of those who is thumbing his nose at the new Galactica. I have not watched it and I will not at all.
You ask why? Well, for one thing, I really had my heart set on a continuation with the original actors and we got a stinking remake. I don't like that right from the start.
I guess that's the main thing. I hate remakes of stuff that should not and did not needed to be remade, so I just did not like the whole concept of it. Add to that the simple fact that most of today's modern sci-fi is just not my cup of tea with the sole exception of Star Wars and this show is like many other current sci-fi productions.
Not only that, but the characters and premise of the new show lays blame and finds fault with the humans of Colonial society (e.g. - Cylons were created by humans, "we" are the flawed creations, etc.) and that totally turns me off.
I liked the grand style of epic heroes in a struggle of good vs. evil like the original show had and what Star Wars still has as well. That's why I hate this new Galactica but I still like Star Wars...

The reason I wouldn't watch, even if Sci-Fi was still available on basic cable in my area, and the reason I didn't watch the mini is because I just wasn't interested. I agree with what Al said. For me also, though, BSG is NOT about some blond in a tight red dress.
I wish Richard Hatch well. But I still wouldn't watch his episode(s) if I was able.

See thats the problem with people today, they are not open minded to things or change.
The old series is that, OLD and its time a for a new. I think if you gave it half a chance you would like it. Beside, Richard says its almost everything he wanted to do with the old series. Theres more to the story plot in the new series. In the old show would Adama blow one of the transports out of the sky to save the fleet and sacrifice 1300 people, no they would have found away to save them all. In the new series he had to do just that, and ordered the ship destroyed. There is more realism in the new show more feeling to the show. I find myself feeling the same thing they are as if I was living the show. And that a cool feeling. And there is a lot of throw backs to the show which is a nice touch. In the old show it almost ended with a happy ending every episode. But Im not gonna force anyone to watch, but you will be missing out.

Raycer,
I'm sorry, I don't mean to start a war here, but I am not closed minded. I watched the previews, watched the hour-long special that Sci-Fi did here in the US, and I just wasn't interested. There are a lot of things on TV these days that I'm not interested in. Not watching something because it doesn't look like something I would like doesn't make me close minded, it just makes me picky.

Not a flame or anything... just an opinion. Got to agree that I do not like the new series calling itself BSG. I'm a very open minded person and I, as a die-hard lover of BSG, watched the two Sci-fi episodes. I'll not watch any further and must say I'm a little disappointed in Richard Hatch.
Sci-fi has several things they broadcast and try to sell to fans. This series falls in the two-thumbs-down category with these others... for me. Deep inconsistencies and straying from the epic and heroic storyline and characters was too prevalant. The legacy was not honored. I found the dialogue to be weak, many main characters to be krass and shallow, the story was high on unnecessary melodrama and sexuality, and I could go on but I refrain. Some call it great sci-fi, but that, too, is their opinion.
Just my .02 on this subject.

Hey I’ll admit to watching the new show. It’s one of the best low budget comedies I have ever seen! Sci-Fi is saving a fortune in costumes, props and CGI work!
I mean really….am I the only one who noticed that the side arm the “new Apollo” held to Richard Hatche’s head during the semi-riot on the prison barge was a Walther PPK? James Bond would be so proud! The gun the female “Boomer” shot herself with last week….guess what?....also a Walther. Then there is the gun that Starbuck took away from the would be presidential assassin two weeks ago…. a Smith and Wesson 9mm, complete with the big S&W emblem embossed on the grip? Looks like Adama really does know where Earth is…cause that’s where he shops for his weapons ……go figure.
They made a big deal out of the new robotic Cylons……only counted 9 all season. Big savings on CGI eh? Human Cylons….no costumes no CGI…..major bucks saved. Better yet…only 4 models of the new human Cylons. So now ya got 4 actors/actresses that can be used and recycled a few hundred times….can you say Cha-Ching?
Yep…I call it a low budget comedy…cause every time I see one of the “store bought” weapons, the rare and less than adequate CGI Centurions, or any one of the human Cylons….I can’t help but laugh myself silly.

I've watched a couple of eps to see what the deal was and i'm not impressed. If i forget that its supposed to be BSG, its still not really scifi enough for me. The costumes, mainly civilian, and planetary shots aren't exotic enough to me. Looks like they shot it in Burbank. The scene last week at the party with Richard Hatch wearing a suit and tie, the mainstream music and dancing, could have been shot at any political party convention of the modern day. And the jerky camera motions annoy me. If the story is good, ya don't need all the artsy shots. The only thing i like about it is the actor that plays Baltar. I think he's awesome (not the Baltar we all love to hate of course), but at least he can act. All just my opinion. If you like it, that's cool, but its not for me. Peace, Lisa
