Hello all,
I've been trying to work out a scenario to get Amy, Astraea and Lazant from the basestar to the Callisto and, since the cruiser they arrived in is damaged, I wondered if Cylon Raiders have light speed capabilities? Would there be a difference in the capabilities of a silver Raider verses a gold Raider?
Thanks!
Peace,
Kat

Kat:
I love what you are doing with the story!!!!
I'd say maybe there is another imperial cruiser on the base star? I just made that ship up in order to have something with weapons and jump capability. Who says there can't be another one parked somewhere! I too didn't know exactly what raiders could do so I just avoided it entirely.
I look forward to reading more!!!

Kat,
Sorry this is too late to make a difference, but I wanted to give you the information anyway. We've been playing the story as if Raiders and Vipers don't have light speed capability, with the exception that a C.O.R.A. equipped Viper can reach light speed. The cruiser Amy described is probably the equivalent of a Cylon messenger ship used earlier in the story. Based on what's been established so far, the Cylons don't have FTL communications, so each Base Ship or Base Star has a number of messenger ships to relay communications. IL-4 Smedelac's ship's messenger ships had been lost or destroyed, so his ship had lost communications with the empire for some time prior to his ship being resupplied in the Pangara system.
Regarding FTL communications, the Colonials have the technology but must use relays at known points in order to do it. When widely separated as a the moment, the Galactica can't just call the Callisto without both ships being at precisely known locations. From system to system, we've used relay stations in the past, but most of them have been destroyed by the Cylons as they've pursued the Callisto.
Enjoying your story.
