Welcome, Ensign Persephone!
Hope you have a great time with the Callisto and hope that you'll participate in our story. It's been a lot of fun so far, with some of our members being very creative writers. I've started to use your name for an NPC on several occasions, but something must have told me that you'd be here eventually to claim it. Glad you made it!
Welcome aboard,
Major Lucian, Engineering, Battlestar Callisto

Hello fellow Callisto Warriors! Oh my Lords of Kobol, what a lovely, lovely squadron welcome!!!!! Thank you !! I'm almost speechless, I think I'm about to cry a little.... Okay, I'm alright now... Well indeed, I'm Persephone, I choose a mythological name( keeping with Classic BSG ideas), and she was the Goddess of Spring. I'm excitied to be a new ensign on the Callisto. How fun this all sounds to be! I hope to be acquainted with many of you, over time, and make some new buddies! I believe I already have. I've just stowed my gear in my quarters, and my bunk looks surprisingly comfy! Hope my first day on duty goes smoothly! I'm looking forward to those drinks on Commander Sheba, Colonel Charybdis! And Major Lucian, wow, I had no idea that you were giving out thought waves for Persephone to come aboard the Callisto...I'm most honored! Um...what's an NPC? Forgive my newbieness.... Oh and thanks for bringing me up to speed Major Brie in your PM. I'll enjoy reading it over. Is the dashing Captain Apollo still single these days?? Okay, I think I've embarrassed myself enough for now... Best regards! Persephone

Welcome again, Persephone.
An NPC is a non-player character. Each of our members who participates plays one particular character, but we have a number of characters who fill out roles that are needed. Any of the original BSG characters (Sheba, Apollo, Starbuck, etc) would be an NPC, as well as any new characters we've created (Urdea, Lazant, Ally, Hush, etc). Also, the characters of any members who are inactive are NPCs while they are gone (BatGal, Cain, Osh, etc), with hopes that they'll be able to rejoin us someday for more than an occasional hello. Some of our NPCs stay around for yahrens and become regulars, while others are there for a while and then disappear.
As for Apollo, in the 28 yahrens since the Exodus, he has become Commander of the Galactica and the Fleet, is still single, and is still in love with Sheba, though they rarely connect since she is commander of the Callisto, which usually defends the rear of the Fleet. Colonel Starbuck is executive officer and second in command of the Galactica, and Tigh is President of the Council. Colonel Athena and Colonel Boomer also have top positions on the Galactica. We don't have a lot of interaction with the original characters except for Commander Sheba, though some of the others do show up at times.

One more word about NPCs. In most cases, the person who invented them is in control of them, just as is their main character. For example, I created a character named Pierce a couple of years ago who thinks he's a god, if anyone were to write for Pierce without going through me...well...I don't want to think about it. But I'm not trying to scare you off, if you have a question just ask me or anyone who is in the story that you're writing with. My point is that no one should just go and take over a character that someone else has been writing for.
And as has been said, the main thing here is to have fun. It's a great group of creative people, and there are people here that I count as some of my best friends in the world. I think you and our other new members will fit right in.
