Hello all. Just checking in. I seen mister Hawke on icq and i thought i'd post this here to get your thoughts since it's the only place i can still communicate with some of my old warrior friends.
This goes out to Chrybdis, Brie and even Joey if she's still around. Quite frankly all that i remember from the past.
Recently i've found a disturbing trend amongst some of the TOS supporters of are past. People like Chris Feehan, Shawn Odonnel, Richard himself, Michael Faries and even Richard. They believe that Galactica has returned. Quite frankly i'm flabergasted by the disaster that Ron Moore has created. Quite frankly i'm also kind of embarroused to have art work affiliated with this mess.
My question is to my old friends, why did these people turn away from the true Galactica so easily?
Once again nice to see you all, specially you Brie.
Don

Who says people have turned away? I support both series and yet I accept that moores series is the only way I can get bsg back into the minds of scifi fans today. I dont like the tone some hard core original fans, not you titon, take towards tns. I am out to prove that I am a flexible human and not rigid about what I will and wont watch.

Titon,
Nice of you to drop by! Let's see, this is my 601 post. You're officially at 2. I think someone has a little bit of catching up to do!
I'll admit, I was very surprised that the same people who asked us for years to work against a new series are now wholeheartedly supporting it. That's in part why we'll be adding the following to our website:
The Battlestar Callisto is a nostalgia group, focusing on the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica series. Our primary means of remembering the original show is through our role-playing game. We, as a group, support a revival of the series with the original cast and themes. We predate the new series, currently running on the Sci-Fi Channel, and have no collective opinion on the show. All that is required to be a member of the Callisto is a love of the original.
We value and respect the opinions of all our members and on the topic of the new series we agree to disagree. We have, however, removed links from some web sites who had asked us to spend our time and hard earned money working against the current series, but are now wholeheartedly supporting it. We welcome all BSG fans regardless of which series they like better to join our game, remembering that it is set in the universe of the 1978 original series. Please see our FAQ or contact a member of core command for information about how to join us.

Most of it was written by me, but we had our members suggest things and vote on whether or not we should include the line about removing the website links.
My guess is that by adding Richard Hatch to the (recurring) cast Sci-Fi accomplished what they had hoped. People who said they would never watch it did, and people who had been working with Richard suddenly started to praise the new show.
There are Callisto members who love it and love the original. We predate TNS by several years, and so of course we won't be able to come to a consensus. The last thing that I want, as a founding member of this group and a squadron leader for (mumble mumble) years is for someone to think that they're not welcome here just because their taste is different than mine. A love for the original is all that is required. We try to focus on what we have in common, not our differences.
Shifting gears, I still hear from Joey a couple of times a year. After having her 4th child she lost ALL her free time, and she's not into RPGing, but she told me she does check the board to see what we're up to.
