Here's the link: www.familywatchdog.us/The sad facts about sex offenses and those that perpetrate them. Impact on Society * 1 of 5 girls will be sexually molested before her 18th birthday. * 1 of 6 boys will be sexually molested before his 18th birthday. * 1 of 5 children has been propositioned for sex over the Internet. * 2 of 3 sexual abuses are perpetrated against teenagers or younger children. * 90% of sexual assaults are committed against someone the perpetrator knows. * The median age for male molestation victims under 18 is 9.8 years old. * The median age for female molestation victims under 18 is 9.6 years old. * There are new 400,000 victims of sexual assault every year. * There are over 550,000 registered sex offenders in the US. * There are over 100,000 sex offenders that fail to register in the US. * 76% of serial rapists claim they were molested as children. * Over 40% of male juvenile delinquents were molested as children. So please take some time and check this site out. It is 100% legit. You'd be surprised at how many people are in or around your neighborhood. 25!! That's right 25 sex offenders are listed in my neighborhood alone. And we have 3 schools well within range of all of these people.

Point is well taken. This was a very interesting site. I checked it out and found none within a mile of our street, but a total of 38 in the search area (about a 5 mile 'radius' centered on our street. That's scary enough, but even scarier, I noticed that one convicted sex offender (2 counts) lives just down the street from our former home. I don't think he lived there back then, but it just goes to show, you never can tell without checking.

The sad truth is that even this type of information isn't complete. There's a man who lives in my neighborhood (I just drove by his house not half an hour ago) who plea bargained his way out of a felony last year. He was a politician and an elementary school teacher, so the case received a lot of press. He's listed in the registry as living miles from here, according to our local paper he had moved out of this neighborhood and was now living with a friend in a secluded area. But his wife and kids are still here, as is his car almost every night. Does he think that we're stupid? Fortunately we know about him (my daughter is almost the same age as his victim) but it makes me wonder how many other people have wiggled around the rules.
Thanks for the eye-opening information, Hawke.
