Ok, here's the latest update on the next installment of the Callisto mini-eps.
The new script is finished (I have had to re-write because of different cast members who might not be available, etc.). The first shots were filmed this past weekend with a friend of mine in the 501st who lives relatively nearby. He is playing the part of a viper pilot.
So, the production is underway! I hope to get more studio stuff filmed in December once school is out and I can get use of the studio and control room set...
My plan is to have it finished by March, hopefully sooner if we can get it all worked out...

Update: I have filmed another viper pilot in the cockpit this past week. However, major snag has hit. My Callisto bridge set has gone caput. I have been using our television control room at the college where I teach and they have totally scrapped it! So no more bridge controls until we get a replacement system in and that is not scheduled until March. Not only that, but it is going to be a major upgrade with huge video screen, controls, etc. Not exactly 70's era controls, but I'll make do with anything at this point.
What this means is that the next Callisto mini-ep will definitely not be finished by March!

Hey man, sorry to hear about the loss of the set for the Galactica bridge. That sucks.
What's the school going to do with all the old equipment? if it's all getting tossed, maybe you can recycle some of it and bring it home. A green screen with one built station could work just as well, and keep things under your control.
Use particle board or something cheap to build the framework, insert the equipment you can get your hands on, and build it closer to what was seen on TV.

I thought of that but most of it was taken apart and scrapped. We are awaiting our new system but it is going to be state of the art. Oh well, I guess the Callisto will be getting all new bridge computer systems now!!!

Update: OK, now we're not even sure when we will be getting the new system!! My plans for the next mini-ep are totally in limbo until I get a new bridge set...I can film some green screen stuff, but there's some important scenes that take place on the bridge in this one. Ugh!
Best guess now is sometime this summer. At least that's what they tell me. Problem is, they want to order a new broadcast sytem that costs almost $100k. We only have around $45k!!!!! Unfortunately, I'm at their mercy since I am only once little cog of the entire wheel and I definitely do not control any purse strings...

Update: Well, not much has been happening on the mini-ep front. No new bridge set just yet but I hear it will be coming in sometime perhaps late July or August, so I'm holding out some hope that I can shoot something before school starts up in August.
Nothing new has been shot but I'm waiting to see what happens. Stay tuned!

Update: Still nothing yet. However, they have informed me that the new "bridge" set will be here supposedly the last of this month or very early September! Terrible timing since school will have already started up by then...

Update: They are now telling me that the new screen, controls. etc. will be arriving and set up the last week in September! Talk about putting things off!!!
Hopefully, everything will be set up and in place by the first of October and then I have to see how I can shoot in our new control room to make it look like the Callisto's bridge...

Whew! A lot has happened since late August. At that time, they said late September, well, as we got closer and closer to late September, they put it off until mid-October. Then when that got close, they said Oct. 24th...well, here it is October 24th and guess what?
They have arrived today!!! The new bridge set (well, OK, our new broadcast switcher and equipment) will begin to be installed this afternoon and should be finished by Wednesday of this week. We then get training on it and should be good to go next week!
What does this mean? Well, I definitely have to learn how to operate the stuff, so what I'm thinking is that we will get to break it in for the rest of the fall semester and then my plan will probably be to film the Callisto stuff once school lets out in early December...that way there's no distractions here on campus.
So, if everything goes well I hope to finish all shooting over the Christmas break and then get to editing so the new mini-ep should be finished in early 2012...
