I posted chapter 9 of Shore Leave this morning. A little over 27,000 words have been published so far, with the next two chapters written, the following chapter started, and then four more chapters to pen after that. The pace has picked up as almost all of the players and key details are in place.... www.fanfiction.net/s/11501557/1/BG04-Shore-Leave <navigate between chapters using the pulldown at upper right> I ever so briefly considered participating in this year's National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo) during the month of November, but didn't want to lose track of this story, which I'm hoping to complete in November. This one will top out at about 40,000-45,000 words, almost half of which were written before November started. Meanwhile, Brie has already topped 12,000 words in her nanowrimo entry. For more information on National Novel Writing Month including how to participate, please visit: nanowrimo.org/

Update:
Brie finished her nanowrimo exercise successfully, totalling more than 50,000 words in November.
My story grew more than anticipated in terms of chapters, words, and time required to complete it. I'm currently at Chapter 16 and over 53,000 words posted. Fortunately, Chapter 17 is almost done, and then Chapter 18 will close it out in the next couple of weeks. If anyone decides to read it, please note that some of the storylines will carry over to a planned sequel.

Colonel, I'm currently finishing an epilogue for the current story, and have a good outline underway for the sequel story. A few of the non-player characters from our Callisto story are making appearances as their younger selves in my current story. In addition to Urdea (the Callisto's Fleet Security chief), Whitcher (the desk sergeant) and his young nephew Wheran of Fleet Security and old Solon, the science officer, have been featured. In addition, Lazant (Warrior Academy) and Forgemaster Karkarian (who was murdered in our Callisto storyline soon after the start of our story) have played small parts and will be featured again in the next episode.

My story "Shore Leave" is complete! With a prologue, 18 chapters, and an epilogue, it ended up at over 63,000 words. As the fleet resupplies, Starbuck has to face life and reality as his long-delayed furlon with Cassiopeia goes wildly astray with the appearances of one of Cassie's former clients, Starbuck's nemesis, Officer Reese, and another, most-unwelcome visitor. There are a number of secondary storylines, too, a few of which will be addressed in the upcoming sequel. www.fanfiction.net/s/11501557/1/BG04-Shore-Leave

I've been doing a little work on the Shore Leave sequel, but in the meantime, I'm exploring another storyline that goes back to "Saga of a Star World" and before. It focuses on the braided wonder* and fan favorite, Flight Corporal Rigel! With the Colonies in ruins and the Colonials trying Adama's desperate plan to save humanity, Rigel must battle memories from her past as she helps pick up the pieces. www.fanfiction.net/s/11837184/1/BG01A-Very-Dark-TimesParts 1 and 2 are now posted, with a new chapter to follow about every week to ten days. Approximately ten (to twelve?) chapters are anticipated. If you get a chance to read the story, please let me know your thoughts. * I read an interesting interview with Sarah Rush about why she lost the braids in later episodes. Someone wanted her to be more "contemporary" so they took them out.

The wiki at BattlestarWiki.org includes that Rigel is "a professional woman who approaches her responsibilities with enthusiasm." In "Saga of a Star World," Rigel is one of those who resists the urge to cry as the destruction of the Colonies plays out on the monitors around them while others have tears streaming. How she is able to resist what would likely be an almost overwhelming urge to cry in such a case becomes part of the story in Very Dark Times. en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Rigel

Update: Very Dark Times is currently posted through Chapter 7, with the final three chapters to be posted over the next three weekends. In addition, I have a new challenge story entitled "A Walk among the Stars" in which a very weak distress signal using an ancient Colonial code leads to Lieutenants Boomer and Brie (the Janet Louise Johnson character, not our dear Major) investigating a derelict spaceship and its hidden secret. The challenge is entitled Mechanical Mayhem, so the story's climax features a rather unusual circumstance to complicate matters! The story will be complete on 5/6/16, and can be found at: www.fanfiction.net/s/11929385/1/BG02A-A-Walk-among-the-Stars

I finished a new and rather different story last week. It chronicles an attempt at a romantic evening between Athena and her date (who will later serve aboard the Callisto). As the evening begins, neither of them are sure they want to be there. What makes this story different (other than it being in the romance category. Ha ha!) is that it is written in drabble form. Each short scene is exactly 100 words long, so the words used must be used to imply a lot more than what they actually say. www.fanfiction.net/s/11971643/1/BG04A-Dinner-Date
