One thing that I really didn't like with the advent of SW Episode VII: The Force Awakens was that basically everything that had been canon in the SW Extended Universe was demoted to "Legends" status. The two that I felt were the biggest loss were Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn. While there's still the possibility that the Emperor's Hand/Luke's wife will be brought back into canon in some form or fashion (possibly even in Rogue One), it was recently confirmed that Timothy Zahn's masterful creation, the Grand Admiral, will be included in an upcoming episode of Star Wars Rebels and in a new book scheduled for release in 2017 entitled "Thrawn".
