Brik had developed a habit over the yahrens of masking his feelings under a gruff exterior and that habit functioned just that way at this moment.
Instead of looking dismayed or confused, his normally sober face bunched up in quiet anger. The worst kind.
But Captain Brik (sheesh, what a way to find out about a promotion) was not a foolish man and knew better than to take drastic action unless absolutely necessary. He knew it and Logan knew it. Time would tell whether or not Baris knew it.
First, Brik addressed the people milling about in the immediate area of the corridor, pretending not to watch them.
Using his loud "drill instructor" voice (that he learned from Skyler) he spoke to them all at once: "Alright warriors! Clear this corridor NOW!" Although there was much bumping and dodging, the section of visible corridor was emptied in, what had to be, record time. Logan looked at her friend with quickly raised eyebrows and a mental reminder of the little things that allowed them to see eye-to-eye as often as they did.
Taking two slow and large, measured steps Brik closed his distance with the man and looked down into his eyes. He put his large hands on his hips for effect. He was certain that his current battle-weary state didn't hurt. He spoke quietly. "So, LOOtenant, I'm a Captain now, huh? Well then, LOOtenant, my first act is to give you a DIRECT ORDER to spill what you know about my Commanding Officer and fellow Colonial Warrior and to do so IMMEDIATELY. Are. We. Clear?"

A lesser man would have melted on the spot. Baris merely raised an eyebrow and took in the ragged group before him.
"Captain, nothing would please me more than to fill you in," Baris' gaze lingered on Logan for a micron, and she could tell that he truly meant his words, "but I have been given a direct order from Commander Sheba to escort you to Med Lab, attend your wounds, and await her there to debrief you."
Brik took the man's measure and was aware that intimidation wasn't going to be any use in this case. Baris meant well and it wasn't his fault that he and Logan had been trained to notice what others often overlooked.
Logan still hadn't moved. Major Brie is dead. The words kept repeating themselves in her head and she couldn't make sense of them. She was aware of Hush standing next to her, watching the altercation between Brik and Baris. She had heard Persephone's intake of breath and the shuffling of Janey's feet just behind them.
She was talking before she realized that her thoughts had caught up to her voice. The words on the air sounded heavy, each one dropping with a finality to the deck that she just couldn't reconcile with reality. "Major Brie is dead."
Everyone turned to look at her, Hush with some concern in his eyes. She was staring at Brik, but not really seeing him. "Her injuries..."
She let the observation hang and Brik shook his head. They both knew that the injuries Brie had sustained on the mission were not life-threatening.
"When did this happen? On the way back from the Prison Barge?" Logan had to clear her throat to get the sentence out. She felt like she had been kicked in the stomach.
Baris quickly peeked over his shoulder, as if afraid he'd be heard. There was no one around. Evidently word of Brik's decree had spread and no one wanted to come face to face with the large man when his voice took on that timbre. "She was on her way to the Galactica in her Viper. Something went wrong and there was an explosion. No sign of a survivor in the wreckage."
Logan was nodding her head and she didn't know why. "And Skyler is searching." It wasn't a question.
Suddenly JustinB's image came into her mind. Oh Lords! Amy.
"I really can't tell you anything else." Baris was sincerely sorry. Logan could tell.
"Alright. Let's...we need to get to Med Lab. Now." Logan walked right past Brik and Baris, the others following, lost in their own thoughts.

It seemed like just yesterday when she had brought back Brie's uniform from the laundrey. Her first duty as a ensign. She had asked for a tentative leave to dine with Triton and Commander Apollo on the Rising Star. She had given it kindly to Persephone. She appreciated it. But the very words of Baris ' came across to her like a clouded missile. Gone. How could she be just gone?
The realisation of the fact that Brie's life was no more and yet her presence lingering, brought feelings of all those she'd lost back to her. Persephone did not know the Major for very long, but she felt a connection to her as someone she could look up to and respect. Everyone spoke with high regard of Major Brie. She may very well have become Persephone's mentor as a warrior if this turn of events had not happened.
The Beings of Light must have thought differently upon this. Persephone continued walking behind Logan and the others, feeling stunned and sensing that realisation of one's own mortality. She said an ancient prayer in Piscerian in her heart for Brie, a prayer that Siress Europa had taught to Persephone when she was still a small girl. It roughly translated as "May your spirit be returned to the One and all loving Spirit. Return in joy, love and peace".
Persephone now thought of her loved ones lost in the past.

Logan walked steadily forward, not making eye contact with any who passed by their little group. Baris had overtaken her and now led the way. He only glanced at her as he passed, but didn't say anything. She could feel Brik's presence off to her left and hear the footsteps of the others behind her.
The dirt and dried blood on her face, the torn uniform, must have made her look fierce, but she retained an outward manner of calm for anyone who was looking in her direction.
In her mind, she was stuck on the words Baris has said. Major Brie is dead.
None of this made sense. She knew better than to speculate without more information. Her logical mind needed pieces to put into place, to form some sort of rational puzzle and solve it, look at it from all angles. Until she got that information, she knew it was useless to try to make any sense out of Baris' words. As if there would be any sense if it was true.
Where was Skyler? And JustinB? She had spent so much time pretending to be involved with him for Rizzou's benefit that she had almost forgotten her suspicions about who his lady really was. And then, there was Amy. As much as that girl had gone through and now this? Amy and Brie were very close. And if Brie really was Amy's mother...she knew that Brie had said her declaration on the Agro Ship had been to win over the workers there during the Pierce takeover, but Logan had always wondered about her denial of the story. "Sometimes when you're left with no other bluffs, the truth works just as well." One of her instructors in the Academy had said that.
As they neared the Med Lab, Logan braced herself for the worst.

The mood in the Med Lab was solemn. Lt. Baris didn't attempt to make small talk as he and the staff saw to the wounds of the Warriors. Logan saw that he was biting his lower lip and under different circumstances she might have smiled at his efforts to not chastise her and the others for their physical states. He seemed to take any wounds as a personal affront, as if they had dented their Vipers and he was the Crew Chief in charge of their upkeep.
After having her wounds cleaned, she was allowed to make use of the shower, letting the water wipe away the grime and stains of the battles of the past mission. But it was a short respite as the others were ushered in and out of the small bathing facilities in the back of Med Lab.
Seated on the edge of a biobed, pulling her fingers through her damp hair and failing miserably at getting out all the knots out, she put her hands in her lap. She then fidgeted with the plain gown she had been given to change into. Her fingers went back to her hair, resolutely working on a final knot.
She saw Brik glance at her and shake his head. They'd been in this position before, but one thing was markedly different this time. He didn't tease her about her vain attempts at grooming her hair nor suggest a more military-style coiffure of which he was more than willing to break out his clippers to administer. She saw in his eyes the same disbelief and need for answers that she had.
She exchanged glances with Persephone and Hush. They both had been tended to and cleaned up, but weren't speaking. Janey had already been released to Bronze barracks to get some sleep as her wounds were the least severe.
The four remaining members of the mission team sat still, each with their own thoughts, waiting. Logan didn't bother asking Baris who was coming to talk to them. He had said everything she could get him to say.
Commander Sheba strode into the Med Lab, hands crossed over her chest and a strained expression on her face. Logan and Brik both sat up a little straighter at the grim lines on her face. At that moment, Logan knew that Baris' words about Brie were true. She felt the bed beneath her, the breath escaping from her lips, the tangles of her long hair caught in her fingers. But everything seemed far away as Sheba came to stand between Logan and Brik, looking from one to the other, and to Persephone and Hush, before speaking.
"I already have Major Brie's report on the prisoner transfer and what transpired. And the team leader on the Prison Barge has reported that no other prisoners are missing. They didn't find Comeek." That didn't surprise Logan. She had a feeling the search would turn up nothing. He was clever and who knew what accomplices he had. Hades, he might not even be on the Prison Barge anymore.
Sheba paused before going on and looked to Baris who gave a small nod. "I figured you wouldn't be able to get here without finding anything out, but I hoped to be the one to tell you."
"Major Brie's Viper exploded in transit to the Galactica. She stepped down from Gold Squadron CO. Major Skyler is now Gold CO. He is searching the area of the explosion right now...for any signs of survival."
Sheba was watching their reactions. Logan held her gaze and stopped herself from asking all the questions running through her mind. She knew Sheba would tell them everything she knew. Why had Brie stepped down from a position she loved and had held for so long? To go to the Academy? This doesn't make sense.

"Major Brie's Viper exploded in transit to the Galactica. She stepped down from Gold Squadron CO. Major Skyler is now Gold CO. He is searching the area of the explosion right now...for any signs of survival."
The very words echoed in Persephone's head. How awful, she thought, shuddering slightly at the mental image of Major Brie's final moments in her viper. It reminded her only too sharply and painfully of Chiron's last day. She recalled the news being relayed to her about her fiancé's death. Cylons had taken his life and all who were in the shuttle that he rode to a tribunal case on the Galactica that day. A surprise attack on a patrol nearby. Chiron was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It was the same "dagger in the gut" feeling she was experiencing now about Brie dying in a exploding ship. How could it be that Brie went through all the ordeal of the same day she and her crew had endured, to then die so inexplicably sudden?
She now felt the pain in her muscles that she had exerted during the day. A small cut on her hand that she didn't notice before now throbbed after washing it in the small bathing amenities in the medlab. The dirt must have been somewhat of a soothing balm until now that it was properly cleaned. The antiseptic the med tech had applied to it, really stung like Hades. Hmph..Ironic, she thought before diverting her attention back to the Commander, who now gazed at her without her realizing.
Sheba had a puzzling thought now running through her mind. She had seen the young lieutenant on the moniter at the bridge earlier this morning when she spoke with Triton there. He had come to watch her and her team launching the shuttles. Sheba remembered thinking how lieutenant Persephone reminded her of someone, but just could not place who.
She could see why Apollo's cousin was so interested in her. The lieutenant was certainly very pretty. She obviously was a competent warrior as well to have survived the initiation she'd just been through today. But back to the matter at hand. Sheba would return to her mental wanderings at a later time and find out why this woman haunted her so.
Persephone broke her gaze with the Commander to glance over at her wingman. Logan seemingly had more than one finger entangled with her wet and unkempt hair at this centon. She wanted to just take a brush and help her out. Lords only knew what her own tresses must have looked like right now. It too was rather damp from the splashes of water getting on her hair in the sub- turbo wash and she had already been aware of it's bedragled feeling.
Her green eyes now moved to Brik, who seemed rather grim and lost in his own sphere of mind, as much as Hush appeared next to her.
She just wanted to get the briefing over with and get back to her quarters and see Triton. She was exhausted and needing nourishment. Find some normality after hearing the news about Brie. Her world had crumbled enough times inthe past over the last 30 yahrens, she didn't need a reminder right now of the frequent death she had seen from the age of five. She needed warm arms around her, Triton's.

Searching for signs of survival...
Logan could tell by Sheba's expression that she didn't hold much hope. The silence was maddening. But Sheba seemed loathe to continue.
Logan decided her questions about Brie's stepping down and new job could wait. Something else was going on.
"Now, after you have had a chance to rest and Lt. Baris has deemed you fit to leave Med Lab, I am offering you all the chance to take some time off from your duties. I know some of you may prefer to remain on active duty." She looked pointedly at Brik and Logan, knowing they wouldn't want to sit still to deal with their loss.
"But..." Logan could feel it coming.
"There is another matter that I need volunteers for." Sheba seemed to be weighing her words carefully. "Captain Amy is missing. She sent a message to me just before Brie's accident saying she was resigning her commission and disappearing into the Fleet for a while."
"That means she doesn't know about Brie?" It was Brik's deep voice. He knew that Brie and Amy had always been close. He didn't know, or suspect, as Logan did, that Brie might actually be Amy's mother. And if she was, she had no idea that her mother was dead.
Logan thought she saw a searching look in Sheba's stare, but it was quickly gone. "The timing is strange. And I have had a message from Amy's mother, Abby, on the Agro Ship. When she heard about Brie she tried contacting Amy and couldn't reach her. When she found out Amy had resigned and left, she asked me to help her find her. Frankly, I was already planning on trying to locate Amy. It is odd that she didn't contact Abby and no one knows where she is."
Logan's mind was reeling. Amy lived to be a Warrior. It had gotten her off the Agro Ship which she hated, but it was her home. Why wouldn't she let Abby know what she was doing? What was going on?
"I am asking for a small group to attempt to find Captain Amy. She wasn't long from the Med Lab when she left and I am concerned about her health, physically and mentally. And if she finds out about Brie from someone else, well, Amy is a good Warrior and asset to the Fleet. She needs to be found. This mission will be classified and anyone going will be undercover. No uniforms. No need to cause suspicious gossip among the citizens. Or give Amy an opportunity to slip away if she hears that Warriors are looking for her.""
Logan had already made up her mind. Brie had been a friend and a fellow Warrior. Granted, she had never had the opportunity to get to know her like she wished she had, but she thought it would be a more fitting tribute to her memory to find Amy than to sit on the Battlestar and do nothing. Especially if Amy really was Brie's daughter.
Logan met Sheba's gaze as she said, " I can't speak for anyone else, Commander, but I'll go."

Persephone looked up at her wingman hearing her reply to Sheba.
She knew that it would be her duty to probably accompany Logan to search for Captain Amy.
Even though she was quite eager to try finding her brother somewhere on the Celestra, she was a warrior now, and that had to come first. Ganymede would be proud of her.
Her eyes darted from Logan to the Commander and chimed in saying, "I'll help too".
Sheba turned from Logan to Persephone nodding at her, pleased with her response. "Glad to hear it Lieutenant", she said.
Logan gave Persephone a look that told her she was happy to have her along on the search. She gave Logan a quick nod, acknowledging her thoughts.
"I hope the med-techs haven't found anything wrong with Persephone, she's been up there at the med-lab for more than a centare", Triton said to Misty Star.
"I'm sure she'll be just fine, Triton. They' re probably wanting to make sure all the team are okay after today's events", Misty replied putting her hand on Triton's shoulder.
Leaning against the corridor wall, Triton anxiously awaited Persephone's return to her barracks. Helix and Misty kept him company for a while until decideing to go for their meal period.
"Listen buddy, Misty and I are gonna go grab our dinner. Would you mind much if we love you and leave you?"
"No...no you two go on ahead. I'm sure Pers will be along in a centon or two. GO eat before the cooks take a strike". Triton's attempt to hide his anxiety, made his friends try to laugh all the same, at his remark.
As he watched his fellow gold members make thier way to the mess hall, he felt his own tummy rumbling. He hadn't eaten all day.
"Where is she?" he wondered with the urge to go look for her himself.

It seemed that this highly cursed day would just never end and just kept getting worse instead of ANY better. It was like a nightmare.
Brik listened to what was being said and tiredly wiped his face with both hands. He thought that he could actually FEEL his misery on his skin like old sweat. And he had just started to get to really know Brie and learn why she was so respected...as well as the possibility of a small triad tournament. In other circumstances he would have smiled at the memory of their banter but now it just made him feel worse and quite useless. He knew that somehow the squadron would not be included in the search efforts for any survivor. And in all reality, his warriors brain said, chances were shaky to begin with under even the best of circumstances. WHAT NOW?!?!?
Sheba continued... Or give Amy an opportunity to slip away if she hears that Warriors are looking for her."
He almost smiled at this point because he knew the answer.
Logan met Sheba's gaze as she said, " I can't speak for anyone else, Commander, but I'll go." And that was the reminder of why she was so dear to him, part of what allowed them to be such close friends for so long. And he shouldn't have been surprised by what he heard next from the new, young, but quite capable lieutenant. "I'll help too".
Brik got to his tired feet, wishing all at once for a uniform and blaster as well as sleep and a shower. He placed a hand on Logan's shoulder and gave Persephone an approving nod and grim smile which she seemed to understand and return, then addressed Sheba.
"Well, Commander, I guess that means that you have a team of three. When do we take off?"

**Continuity Note : The following takes place before Major JustinB meets with Commander Sheba on the bridge of the Callisto.**
*******************************
"Make that a team of four."
Until that micron Hush hadn't spoken. His low, but steady voice sounded behind Sheba and she turned around to acknowledge the lieutenant's words with a nod.
Logan met his gaze and couldn't stop the grin forming on her lips. She had hoped he would join the mission, but hadn't wanted to even look at him, afraid her hopes would show in her eyes. She wanted him to choose for himself, not because of what she wanted.
Sheba crossed her arms and nodded solemnly. "Good. Thank you all. I knew I could count on you. Now, the team will have two other members. I'll fill you in after your sleep period."
Brik looked as if he was about to protest, but Sheba's raised hand and firm look stopped him. "I appreciate your eagerness, Captain, but I'm not sending any of my Warriors on a clandestine mission where discretion is imperative unless they are well-rested and prepared."
The gentle rebuke and wisdom of her words washed over them all. "I want you all to meet me in the conference area in 10 centars. The final members of your team will meet you there. And I'll give you the particulars of your cover and your starting place. Any questions?"
Logan knew that the only questions she had could be answered better in the briefing, namely who the other team members would be and where they should start to look. She had a few ideas forming already on possible places Amy may have felt safe to escape to. She also was considering getting permission from Sheba to look through Amy's quarters...the quarters she had just recently been sharing with Brie.
When no one came forward with any questions, Sheba nodded and moved towards the door of the Med Lab, Lt. Baris at her side, speaking in hushed tones over the medi-pad clutched in his hands.
Logan had known Brik wouldn't pass up the opportunity to be out there, doing something, while the universe rolled on without Brie. She still couldn't grasp it. And she wondered how Skyler was taking it. She wanted to run out of Med Lab and track him down, make sure he was ok.
She could see the same concern in Brik's eyes. "He's out there, looking for her. You know it." Logan shook her head and would have laughed in other circumstances. Brik could always read her heart. Good thing she trusted him or it would have infuriated her, having someone that aware of what she was feeling.
Hush was settling back on his biobed, the tired lines around his eyes crinkling as he yawned. "From what I've seen, Skyler is very thorough. If there is anything to find, he'll be the one to do it."
Logan did a doubletake. "How did - ," she started to ask, but Brik cut her off.
"Logan, don't you know by now that when you're worried about your friends you get that little wrinkle in your forehead and start biting your lip?"
She caught herself biting her lip and stopped. Hush grinned at her, his blonde hair hanging in his eyes as he propped himself up on one elbow.
Logan felt a sense of comfort in the teasing. It made it seem that something was still normal in this mess.
Baris came back to the four Warriors and the grim lines of a frown deepened the seriousness of his expression. "You all need to sleep."
Logan cut a glance at Persephone and winked at her. She was pleased that her new wingman had decided to join the mission. She didn't have to and Logan wouldn't have blamed the girl for opting out. But she had proven herself on the transfer mission and held her own. Logan was confident that she would do the same again.
Baris dimmed the lights and retreated to the other side of the Med Lab, busying himself at a computer terminal. The Warriors settled down for some much needed rest and pondered where their search for Amy might take them.
